Wow. This soundtrack is still pretty good, but it's a major shift in tone from the first OST. The orchestral elements are almost entirely absent from this OST, and instead most of the tracks are Iuchi's patented techno-rock, which he's gotten pretty good at from his years composing for A Certain Magical Index/Railgun. The action tracks are stellar, and the suspense tracks work surprisingly well. But yeah, if you're an orchestral lover, you're going to be caught really off guard.

That being said, the soundtrack rocks pretty hard and has some sweet techno beats. I just miss the orchestra.

Okay, I believe I figured out why this soundtrack is so different from the previous one.

The first OST was orchestrated by Kenji Inai, who has composed for anime himself (BTOOOM!, Outbreak Company, and even a bit of One Piece). While Maiko Iuchi composed the entire score, Inai arranged and orchestrated about half of the tracks. It seems that the soundtrack producers opted to put all of Inai's arrangements on the 1st CD, while the 2nd CD is solely what Iuchi did himself.

Again, I don't feel that this OST is terrible at all. The usage of contrabass is cool, and I've grown to enjoy Iuchi's techno and rock work a ton, because Iuchi hits with a lot of intensity and speed. It is a shame that 35-piece orchestra (I'm guessing that's how big it was) has vanished, but again, this is not bad work at all. It's just that it is standard Iuchi instead of the superlative Iuchi that was created by having Kenji Inai take Iuchi's compositions and transform them into something grand and special. But standard Iuchi is enjoyable on its own.
