If Vangelis is involved it has potential. If not i will definitely not spoil the original masterpiece.

Blade Runner is my generations Casablanca. It's just the perfect film.

Vangelis - Chariots of Fire Suite - 2009 Edition (https://mega.co.nz/#!CY9zDBhB!Av6b05tIjzik4cfGIXQq1CjDwRlmfdDz1RlHswI BmAU)

Originally shared as a limited private release by the legendary maker of "The Sound Of Blade Runner" sometime in 2009, as for everything Vangelis related (especially when done properly), this "Chariots of Fire Suite" quickly became traded and sold as "Chariots Of Fire Final Score" (or better turned into that for the purpose).
Of all the cues originally shared only the suite track got more widely known (and also remastered at some point).
Credit for the new track titles goes to someone out there of course. You know who you are.
Alternate artworks courtesy of the Blade Runner cover wizard also known as JacKc. We know you, do we? ;)
Needless to add that our gratitude goes to the original maker... as usual. :)

Courtesy of "Blade Runner 2008 Edition" maker and sourced from the latest 30th Anniversary edition blu-ray disc (including also the isolated score) this version follows the same lead into going the "suite" way that the "Chariots of Fire Suite" 2009 version did, most notably on Eric's and Abraham's Themes approach, and if the 2009 version really did a perfect job in rendering the cues the way they are, the same approach on the isolated score stream finally touched perfection on this 30th Anniversary version.
Bravo! :)
We cannot imagine anything more original really. We would have loved a sort of hook to loop track 04 Training... but that might reside only in Vangelis' vaults sitting along the longer versions of the cues edited for the soundtrack.
Order of the track listing changed to reflect the tastes of the maker, and we fully agree... of course! ;)

Oh... perhaps most of the people here has this already (courtesy of dvran), but it is being since the blu-ray version of the movie came out that this version is doing the rounds on ebuy.
If this was meant as a private release and ended up there or the other way round only the makers can tell.
It could have been done better for a complete score perhaps.
I guess the suite concept might have originated from the 2009 private edition though.
That seems to have paved the way for a couple of things regarding the soundtrack for sure... though the maker of the 2015 edition has not sat idle at all it "sounds"! ;)

Yes. That is the Arkhan release and not the OWM.

I thought the Arkhan and OWM editions shared the same track list...?

They do share the same tracklist, but only that.

The same track list, but possibly not the exact same track durations.

The Arkhan was at the OWM as the Gongo was at the Off World Edition.
Whenever a boot came out from Off World an almost similiar version came out under different guises to get to a wider circle of collectors.

As far I can tell the Arkham we had in the first place has the tails chopped out. For this reason Zyzz took the tails off the only encode that was ever shared (and it was not a good one and with some tracks also present in the official version missing on the OWM that made it to us).
But then also Cafafy we had had the very same issue. It was thanks to dvran that we got to know the real deal.

You can tell which is which because the tails have a lesser deepness in spectrum on the version that we shared 30 pages ago because they were pasted from the mp3 encode and the levels were dropped down to retain the dynamics of the official cues that were missing from the OWM we had.

From time to time I make a check on Soulseek but what I am getting is always the version we have posted also here and not a better encode of the original.
Unfortunately those old cdr's might skip a bit by now.

I guess it's high time to start doing with Antarctica what it was done with Blade Runner.
I cannot check my backups at the moment but I will get back with both versions if possible. ;)

Oh... most does not seem to be aware that on the italian version (which is also shorter) different cues and alternate mixes were used compared to the original japanese release.

https://mega.co.nz/#!WBN1hQYC!1fQB8z-pK29vgmuZ4QVZOtHTBNXwgDbPwTBeOs8Xn6c

...unfortunately the master used for the italian version on dvd did age a bit...

so I still prefer the original VHS rip for that...

Someone should really do that... everything needed is here courtesy of Zmeushkovsky hopefully. ;)

What was done so far is quite disappointing as a matter of fact... but do hear it for yourself... and do not expect anything close to quality either...

Crime And Passion (a.k.a. "Ace Up My Sleeve") (1975)

Film directed by Ivan Passer starring Omar Sharif and Karen Black.
Vangelis scored this film in his typical style from the mid seventies.
Think of the sweeter parts of albums like "La Fete Sauvage" and "Ignacio".
Particularly noticeable are two French style love themes which reappear in the film.
Most music is quite mysterious but there are also some tense and bombastic parts.
It's a shame that none of the music was never released outside of the film

Unfortunately there are two versions of this film, one with Vangelis' original score and one with music by another composer.
The US version of the "Crime and Passion" videotape for instance does NOT have Vangelis music.
However the Japanese version (English sound, Japanese subtitles) does, and the German "Ace Up My Sleeve" also does..

Recorded at Nemo Studio‚ London‚ Autumn 1974

This recording is struck from an original 16 mm North American print of the Ivan Passer film Crime And Passion.
The film's soundtrack is monophonic‚ and so is this compact disc.
Though hi-fidelity enthusiasts may be disappointed with the quality of the twenty five year old source‚ this compact disc is the first to bring one of Vangelis' most beautiful scores to the ears of his dedicated fans.

This compact disc is specifically intended for use by students of Vangelis' music‚ for educational purposes and under the doctrine of fair use.
It is not intended to be duplicated or distributed in any fashion‚ as Vangelis retains rights in the music‚ and Samuel Z. Arkoff and Gloria Films retain rights in the film and the titles.

"This score is revealing of the electronic sound in films being catapulted by Vangelis in the 1970's.
However‚ the quality of this recording is almost insulting.
Track one is an interesting mix of synths sounds with electronic rumblings while the last track‚ reveals a delicate melody.
However‚ the rest of the disc consists mainly of (irrirating) dialog from the Crime and Passion/Ace up My Sleeve video.
The jacket text reads: "this compact disc is the first to bring one of Vangelis' most beautiful scores to the ears of his dedicated fans."
I wish that were true. Maybe the film does contian more beautiful music‚ but you wouldn't know it by listening to this disc.
Although I have not heard the most recent release of this music‚ this release is very poor and the music is not all that interesting.
In other words‚ don't fret about getting a copy of this one."

https://mega.co.nz/#!0xVEyASK!ofNfioIWEksSXFBt4mGMyioP-OnPWccXRONBBrfCZT0

This Digalog cd looks nice, but it's recording quality isn't.
The beautiful music of the Ace Up My Sleeve movie sinks away in hiss and low noise.
The sounds 'crack' and clips everywhere. Really bad.
The first track lasts for over 25 minutes, soundclips from the movie mended together.
The hiss sinks away every now and then, like the overall volume does as well.
The trackvolume of the other various themes isn't good as well.
This cd is very heavy mastered, so playing a bit too loud will blow away your roof.

Next to the red strip on the sleeve, there is an almost impossible to read text stating "Original Motion Picture Soundtrack".
Not only the Ace Up My Sleeve soundtrack is presented, track four comes from Cousteau and it's last track is Morandi.
Also "Song Is..." is on this cd.

It's nice to have it for it's rarity, but avoid it for the quality.
Don't expect anything new or real rare stuff, and please be careful with your speakers!
This cd comes in a slimline cd case.

It really has a nice jazzy vibe! I find it hard to attach it to Vangelis as I have always known his music for the synth themes... nonetheless it is a nice piece of music... 'One More Kiss Dear' comes to mind in places.

I have a couple of questions about the 2015 Chariots of Fire suite:

1- Is there any more artwork to go with it?

2- Why did the creator use a different, and in my opinion, inferior, version of Jerusalem? It is jarring, and spoils an otherwise excellent piece of work.

1- I am afraid there never was an artwork for it. We only tampered with the first obvious picture according to what was done from these new 30th Anniversary sources.
That's why the whole post was postponed until it was possible to post all the three different versions.
As (almost) everything Vangelis proper artworks might come after the making of the music in a more user-friendly format. The maker only wished to share his personal vision of the soundtrack. :)

2- He has chosen to use that particular version of 'Jerusalem' according to his tastes... and that's why three different versions were posted eventually. :)

Long before Vangelis went solo, a little after the Forminx fell apart and before Aphrodite's Child was founded, Vangelis composed the musical score for this Greek goofball situation comedy. The music was never released. Filmed in black and white, the movie follows the misadventures of its 3 leading characters getting in trouble as much as possible.
The music, for a 1967 movie, was surprisingly avant garde, adding strange and sometimes unearthly sound effects to the more predictable comedic cues. Outside of the experimental sounds the music reminds of the Forminx and Vangelis' other mid sixties Greek pop music, adjusted more to its instrumental background purpose, and more keyboard oriented.
Needless to say a soundtrack album was never released. But the movie is still widely available in Greek video rental shops.

A slightly manic traffic policeman, who is utterly devoted to service and duty, Antonis Pikrocholos, applies the traffic code with unyielding severity. Tickets rain down upon law-breakers - in particular taxi-drivers and especially Lampros, who happens to be in love with Pikrocholos' sister, Fofo. In his turn, the traffic policeman is in love with a businessman's daughter, Kiki, who is afraid to reveal her feelings to her father. Besides, Antonis has given lots of traffic tickets to a bus belonging to her father's company. For all these reasons, the road to marriage for both couples is long and strewn with obstacles, but the outcome is a happy one for everyone involved.

Greek Film Archive (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0199300/)

The Forminx was Vangelis' first band, he played organ. This feature film has never been released on DVD nor videotape, unfortunately. (http://www.vangelishistory.com/screen%2063-70.html)

Though credited to Vangelis it should have been more appropriate crediting the music to The Forminx.

I hope collectors shopping at eBuy do know that they are buying the original mp3's share burned on cd to cash on the tried and tested Vangelis frenzy.
You might want to check the spectrum of what you are buying when you chose to give away your money.
Quality as best we could ever get... Can't be sorry enough for what we were left. If there is anything better it was never shared.

- Blade Runner - WestWood Edition - Blade Runner - Tapes version - Blade Runner - Collector Box - Deck Definitive Edition - Blade Runner MR2 Esper Edition

You are asking for things virtually none of us is having. Some has them... but they were rarely shared also in the past... so they disappeared from virtually any backup.

Blade Runner - Nexus 6 Volume 1 is a repackaged version of the original Off World edition. You should be having that. Everybody does. :)
Blade Runner - Nexus 6 Volume 2 is a repackaged version of the repackaged Gongo release. You should be having that as well. Everybody does.
Blade Runner - WSM 2000 is a repackaged version of the original 1994 version. Everybody has it. :)
Blade Runner - Cliffhanger and Radio Plays was most likely an edited version of the Memoires cues... The only time it was shared I got rid of what I was having... go figure out why...
Blade Runner - WestWood Edition... I still have to post the proper one... in time I am hoping. Most have it anyway.
Blade Runner - Tapes version... sourced from the same cues that made it to the Off World edition... but not all of the ones included in the tape. There are a couple of cues I'd like to check... one day.
This particular version was never shared among the masses. A 10 track tape was at some point shared
Blade Runner - Collector Box - Deck Definitive Edition is the same of the Deck Art. You should be having that. Everybody does. :)
Blade Runner MR2 Esper Edition... torrent sites are still seeding it.

If you cannot get any of the above on bitsnoop and the likes get back with a request and I'll see for it. :)

Conclusion
Although the similarities between both versions are obvious, there are also considerable differences.
It is therefore safe to say that the Arkhan edition is not merely a manufactured version of the OWM edition.

From what I was having the Arkhan was badly edited from the same cues of the OWM... but if the OWM I was having was something else I cannot really say at this point. Also the Arkham might have been tampered compared to the track durations you are giving.
All the versions I came across during the years were really heavily tampered to the point of being not able to tell which was which. My OWM was also missing the original cues lifted from the official release. :(

My conclusion
From what I was having the Arkhan edition was a manufactured version of a badly edited OWM version.

I'd like to be proven wrong of course! ;)

Does anyone know if the track linked below is really Vangelis? It fits in with the style of the Rosetta mission tracks, but I can find no reference to this piece anywhere, and I had never heard it before today:

I've not heard this before, and my initial thoughts are that it is a pastiche of Vangelis' style and sounds, and a little simplistic in places. Nice, though.

Vangelis - Antarctica (Arkhan Release) [Beauty Trance review]

Category: Music
Genre: Soundtracks
Artist: Vangelis

Antarctica is the soundtrack to the Japanese 1983 movie "Nankyoku Monogatari"(南極物語), which translates as "South Pole Story" (also known as Antarctica in some countries).
Directed by Koreyoshi Kurahara, it's an emotional story about the Japanese 1958 expedition to Antarctica and the dramatic rescue mission that followed.

I'm going to be reviewing a rare print of the soundtrack, released by Arkhan Records in 2001 and comparing it to the standard 8-track album from 1983 (later released on CD in 1988).
First of all, we have the original album:

Vangelis - Antarctica (1983) (8 Tracks / 45:29 / Polydor)

1. Theme From Antarctica [7:29]*
2. Antarctic Echoes [5:58]
3. Kinematic [3:50]
4. Song Of White [5:17]*
5. Life Of Antarctica [5:59]*
6. Memory Of Antarctica [5:30]
7. Other Side Of Antarctica [6:56]
8. Deliverance [4:30]*

* = Unique to the album (no alternate versions)

Since I've actually seen the film, I can tell you that the music here accurately portrays the events that take place.
However, with just 8 tracks, quite a few mesmerizing songs are left out, but we'll get to that later.
The original album still offers a great listening experience through all of the tracks present. Vangelis is very good at what he does.
The atmosphere in these tracks is very arctic, I mean, antarctic.
Take something like "Memory Of Antarctica", which, while it may not be set in Antarctica itself, does give that feeling of reminiscence.
Then there's "Antarctic Echoes", continuing on from the main theme as if to indicate Part 2 of the theme and the start of an exciting adventure.
The later track "Other Side Of Antarctica" conveys a sense of danger and loss while "Deliverance" signs off the album with a happy ending.

Vangelis - Antarctica (2001)
(24 Tracks / 72:33 / Arkhan Records)

01. Ice Of Antarctica [3:01]
02. Destination Antarctica [2:02]
03. Deliverance [4:36]#
04. Land Of Antarctica [3:01]
05. Mountain In Antarctica [2:31]
06. The Ship In The Ice [2:31]
07. Memory Of Antarctica [4:32]#
08. Escape To Antarctica [0:53]
09. Living In Antarctica [0:51]
10. Wind Of Antarctica [2:21]
11. Kinematic [3:44]#
12. Other Side Of Antarctica [6:02]#
13. Winter In Antarctica [0:39]
14. Mirage [1:24]
15. Borealis [1:41]
16. Light Of Antarctica [2:04]
17. Fall [0:42]
18. Sun Of Antarctica [3:17]
19. Return To Antarctica [0:27]
20. Song Of White [5:13]#
21. Life Of Antarctica [5:57]#
22. Antarctic Echoes [5:57]#
23. Back To Antarctica [1:39]
24. Theme From Antarctica [7:28]#

# = On the original album.

Extremely rare, and limited to 50 copies, the Arkhan release of Antarctica contains all of the songs used in the film.
Most of them are alternate versions or reprises of tracks found on the regular album, while others are collective alternates/reprises to the Arkhan release such as the "Mirage" and "Borealis" tracks.
It's not really essential that you own the Arkhan release, but it's worth carefully researching so you can pick out the songs which aren't found anywhere else.
But if you don't have the original and are somehow able to get the Arkhan release, I'd recommend you go for it since it's an interesting insight into the soundtrack.

I give the Arkhan Release of Vangelis - Antarctica a 4/5 since it tends to rehash some tracks a little too much and some are basically copies of each other.
But otherwise, a compelling album, and it's good to know a complete track collection of the Antarctica soundtrack is out there.

Same/Similar/Related Tracks:
(1) Antarctic Echoes / The Ship In The Ice
(2) Kinematic / Fall
(3) Memory Of Antarctica / Sun Of Antarctica
(4) Other Side Of Antarctica / Ice Of Antarctica / Mountain In Antarctica / Living In Antarctica
(5) Land Of Antarctica / Light Of Antarctica
(6) Winter In Antarctica / Destination Antarctica / Back To Antarctica / Mirage
(7) Escape To Antarctica / Wind Of Antarctica / Return To Antarctica / Borealis

Antarctica - Music From Koreyoshi Kurahara's Film 南極物語, CD, Album, 815 732-2

What an amazing album. It seems Antarctica is relatively overshadowed by the acclaimed Blade Runner and Chariots Of Fire soundtracks, but that's no excuse to miss out on such a wonderful listening experience!

In a way, this could be seen as either an album or a single, since it's many variations on the Antarctica theme, but I think with any soundtrack you have
a distinctly familiar melody replicated in creative ways. I believe "Antarctic Echoes" achieves this best. It holds those familiar chimes but advances the atmosphere as if to indicate 'Part 2' of the theme.
Some of the latter tracks are, however, different from the main theme presenting new sounds as well as emotions.

Now I haven't yet seen the film due to it's rarity, but with such beautiful backing music, one can only wonder how effectively it's used in motion, and I don't doubt that it is. This is Ambient at it's absolute finest.
Highly recommended.

"Antarctica is really one Vangelis' most majestic and evocative scores. However‚ this private release has some aspects that are very negative.
First of all‚ the name is spelled wrong all over the covers. ("Antartica" as opposed to Antarctica) The major themes found on the official release are all here‚ but most of them are cut into separate parts to give the album more tracks.
(The same happens in "Missing" OWM). Inexplicably‚ "Deckard's Dream" from Blade Runner is heard in different variations about four times throughout the album.
Furthermore‚ many themes are repeated! I see no logic in any of these aspects of this release.
The themes taken directly from the video (tracks 4‚ 8‚ 10‚ 15‚ 16 and 19) are indeed beautiful despite their muffled sound‚ and really is the only justification for owning this release."

Sebastian

The music that appears for Deckard's Dream did actually first appear in the Japanese motion picture "Antarctica" when it was released in 1983.
It was not until the Director's Cut of Blade Runner was released that this music was used for the unicorn sequence

Antarctica (南極物語 - オリジナルサウンドトラック) - Arkhan Records - 2001

Wrong durations on the vangelis-rareties site I'm afraid. The time durations were taken from the OWM 2000 versions which had those songs longer than the versions presented on the Arkhan.
Anyway. The Arkhan is an edited/re-packaged version of the OWM 2000 with shorter fades.
It is stated on the vangelis-rarities site as a small note plus the review on another site confirms that the time durations on the vangelis site are plainly wrong and referring to the original OWM 2000 version.

On a little side note, the italian version of the movie included some different and exclusive edits to the italian version. Go dig out the music buried in the VHS!

The Arkhan was at the OWM as the Gongo was at the Off World Edition.
Whenever a boot came out from Off World an almost similiar version came out under different guises to get to a wider circle of collectors.

As far I can tell the Arkhan we had in the first place has the tails chopped out.
For this reason Fictitious Productions took the tails off the only encode that was ever shared (and it was not a good one and with some tracks also present in the official version missing on the OWM that made it to us)...

You can tell which is which because some tails have a lesser deepness in spectrum on the version that we shared 30 pages ago because they were pasted from the mp3 encode and the levels were dropped down to retain the dynamics of the official cues that were missing from the OWM we had.

From time to time I make a check on Soulseek but what I am getting is always the version we have posted also here and not a better encode of the original.
Unfortunately those old cdr's might skip a bit by now.

I guess it's high time to start doing with Antarctica what it was done with Blade Runner...

Oh... most people do not seem to be aware that on the italian version (which is also shorter) different cues and alternate mixes were used compared to the original japanese release.

...unfortunately the master used for the italian version on dvd did age a bit... so I still prefer the original VHS rip for that...

As can easily be observed the last section from track 01 was edited out from the original OWM version...

... adding a fade out before the track reach its climax...

The same behaviour was applied on track 02...

As can be seen below the last section was faded out...

On track 22 a large section was simply edited out...

... again resulting in a shorter edit...

... and so on...
I've always postponed the post of the OWM I was having simply because it was ripped from a really badly ageing copy (and you can hear it).
Somehow I've always hoped a better version might resurface one day, but that was never happening, so the 2011 restoration by Fictitious Productions was eventually conceived.
If someone may have tampered with ReplayGain values on the Arkhan and OWM versions I've always had I cannot really tell.
On some occasions I did find some of the tracks on both releases with lower volume gain values compared to my backups... but not all tracks...

Anyway... Here's all the original versions of the soundtrack merely known to date! :)

Key words in my post being original and merely... ;)

Well, after going through countless hd and dvd backups to put a full stop on something that keeps resurrecting not as I've always wished, I re-downloaded about twenty-four different shares on various p2p networks to check against what I was having, but always had to go back to the original backups because what I was downloading was either inaccurate, mislabeled or simply incomplete.
I never had a chance to check any original for the OWM and Arkhan releases so I am drawing my conclusions from what it was merely shared.

Again... key words being original and also merely... :)

Of course everyone is welcome to add their conclusions... supported by solid arguments possibly (FLAC quality preferred...) :)

Yep... I bet I'd really like to be proven wrong this time! ;)

Oh... anyone desperately needing a password could try the name of the cute audio-animatronic robot (or android if you wish) in Tomorrowland. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tomorrowland_(film))
The one the little Frank Walker falls in love with.

Have a nice summer everybody! :)

Too much... maybe the best option, apart from the original album that I have, is the 2011 Fictitious Productions.

I spy with my little eye something beginning with "A" and ending with "a", six letters. ;)

Don't tell me I am the only one who guessed it! :)Plot

The story begins with an adult Frank Walker telling an off-screen audience, his attendance of the 1964 New York World's Fair as a child. In the flashback, he meets David Nix, who is unimpressed with Frank's limited jet pack, but draws the attention of a young girl named Athena. Seeing his potential, Athena gives Frank a pin embossed with a "T" symbol and tells him to follow her aboard the fair's "It's a Small World" attraction. Frank sneaks onto the ride, where his pin is scanned and he is transported into a futuristic cityscape known as Tomorrowland. He falls from a ledge, straps on his jet pack, and lands safely before Nix and Athena.

The narration then shifts to Casey Newton, who sneaks into a decommissioned NASA launch pad in Cape Canaveral, where her father Eddie is an engineer. She sabotages the machines that are dismantling the launch pad and returns home where Athena sneaks another pin that is programmed to Casey's DNA into Casey's motorcycle helmet. The next night, Casey attempts to break into the NASA compound again, but is arrested. At the police station, she discovers the pin among her personal items. Casey discovers that upon contact, the pin instantly shows her a view of Tomorrowland. She briefly explores the vision until the pin's battery runs out.

Assisted by her brother Nate, Casey finds a Houston memorabilia store related to the pin, but upon meeting the two owners, Hugo and Ursula, Casey is inquired about it, and when she reveals to know nothing else about it, they attack her. Athena bursts in and fights Hugo and Ursula, who are both revealed to be robots. The two girls escape as the robots self-destruct, destroying the store. After stealing a car, Athena reveals that she is an Audio-Animatronic robot, and the one who gave Casey the pin, revealing that she needs her help to save the world. Athena drives Casey to Frank's home in New York and abandons her there. Frank pushes Casey away, but she manages to lure him out of the house and sneak in, locking him out. While Casey explores the technology inside the house, Frank re-enters the house through a secret tunnel just as a group of robots disguised as United States Secret Service agents storms the house with intent to kill them.

After evading the robots and reuniting with Athena, the trio uses a teleportation machine that Frank invented, jumping to the Eiffel Tower in Paris. They enter a room with mannequins of Gustave Eiffel, Jules Verne, Nikola Tesla, and Thomas Edison. Frank explains that the four men were the founders of Plus Ultra, a group of inventors dedicated to finding other dreamers and inventors who shared the hope of shaping a better future, which eventually led them to discover a new dimension where Tomorrowland was founded. The trio enter a steampunk-esque rocket hidden underneath the tower, which launches into outer space and back towards Earth, finally arriving at a now desolate Tomorrowland. Nix shows up to greet them, and takes them to a building linked to a tachyon machine designed by Frank himself that can show images from the past and future, where Casey learns that a worldwide catastrophe will happen in the near future, and because of that, Frank lost all hope and was banished from Tomorrowland. Casey does not accept that the world is destined to end, and the future slightly changes as a result, a fact that Frank glimpses, but Nix ignores and orders them arrested instead.

As they await being sent back to Earth, Casey realizes that as a side effect of the device utilizing tachyons to obtain information about the future, it introduces a backfeed into their flow, thus making the future it shows all the more likely, creating a self-fulfilling prophecy; therefore, destroying the device can avert the apocalypse. Nix opens a portal to a beach, inviting them to live out the last days there, but Frank resists upon knowing that Nix had given up on Earth and intends to allow the apocalypse to happen. A fight ensues and Frank tries to use a bomb to blow up the machine. Mistakenly, the bomb goes off outside the portal and the explosion pins Nix's leg under debris. Nix retrieves a plasma gun and aims at Frank. Athena, who was able to see it happening beforehand due to the tachyons, jumps in front of him and is shot beyond repair; that activates her self-destruct sequence. In her last moments of consciousness, Athena instructs Frank to take her to the machine and reveals that she loved him. Her self-destruction takes down the machine and kills Nix as well.
The story returns to the present, with Frank and Casey's audience revealed to be androids like Athena, who are entrusted with new pins and instructed to bring other "dreamers" to Tomorrowland.I was already happy with the Arkhan restoration, but thanks. :)

She's just an audio-animatronic anyway. N-o-t a robot! ;)

It's enough that we are presented with a 5 course meal and should be very grateful. I know, I am. We are all adults and can cut our own meat. Seams there are some that want everything served on a silver platter, the meat cut, and someone to pre-chew the meal for them? . . . ?

Does anyone know if the track linked below is really Vangelis? It fits in with the style of the Rosetta mission tracks, but I can find no reference to this piece anywhere, and I had never heard it before today:

Vangelis • NEBULAE (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ywKJYtMcy2I)

From what I can gather, this is the first track from a compilation album entitled "Vangelis - Essential" that contains some unreleased tracks.

No. Not much to Vangelis.

To Greece? The name of the goddess of wisdom, courage, inspiration, civilization, law and justice, mathematics, strength, war strategy, the arts, crafts, and skill in ancient Greek religion and mythology (https://www.en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Athena) is the same of the young girl.

To Blade Runner to be exact. When you see the movie you will definitely notice a couple of tributes!

...cryptic passwords!

Com'on! It was not that cryptic this time! :)

Vangelis Essential (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yt3zSXmvpWo)

El Seor Eduardo doesn't seem to keen on releasing a better quality though... some of the stuff he uploaded there might have originated from here... and there seems to be quite a handful of unreleased tracks as a matter of fact...

Or he made them up?

A skilled musician perhaps?

The musician i highly doubt is Vangelis, but whoever it is they are certainly talented, just doesn't have that Vangelis feel to me, sounds are a little to thin and style is different, imo.

Probably correct. I've noticed how the Internet has a tendency to mis-identifying music, images — just about anything.

I think it is quite clear from his YouTube posts that this is someone who is obviously a fan of Vangelis' music and records his own in a Vangelis style. The problem is he applies Vangelis' name to it rather than his own and therefore confuses everyone. Why he wishes to do this I don't really understand. His music, though not up to Vangelis standards, is ok and surely it would be better to advertise his own talent under his name? He even uses a Vangelis font on YouTube which is very misleading (and probably illegal!).

Although it's fun to make games out of things.
It can drag on longer than it needs to.

It would make it easier for other members (who are not regulars) if the password was given in a separate spoiler.

It would also reduce any incidents.

Let's try to keep things civil here, please.

It is not going to be that easy with not-regulars-non-english-speakers though... the password are always there if you look for them anyway. My mistake on my previous post though. I forgot it had a password. Now it is redirecting to the original post also (as I originally intended but quite forgot in the end). :)

It is being done to prevent "automatic" detection of links and relative content... something like captchas... the reasoning is the same.

No need for extra spoilers on page 34 then! kirkenshrir and kababi figured them out... as viola_2003 on page 33!

Incidents do keep the place lively perhaps. As long we debate on something we're here. ;)

Try reading posts #811 & #835.

Exactly....one reminds us to try and be helpful to those whose language skills and problem-solving might be a tad compromised whereas the other pokes a bit of harmless fun....in either case, it's the 'tone' that is often telling....regardless of english-language capabilities and being novices on the sight, demands for passwords are rude...in any language....civility should prevail but I think that demanding passwords is less civil than harmless fun-poking designed to remind these folks how to behave.....my two cents worth!

dadadacicici
08-09-2015, 11:42 AM
I think you were referring to post #834 perhaps?

I do understand when you are referring to the "tone" of a post, but that is the way of the posters.

Everyday I go to a postal office, or to a shop to buy something, the cashier at the counter and I might get answer with such shades of "tone", but that's not going to stop me to still go to send a package, or to buy a record, or to get a packet of "family planning" with a cue full of middle aged ladies on my back because of the cashier "tone" of her smile... or answer...
It is part of our different shades of personality.

There's a movie called "Divergent" in which people divide themselves in factions... perhaps I might fit into the divergent or the factionless category... but if any of the people out there is going to fit into a category that's won't be a bad thing.

It is not easy to explain, but always speak your mind. If answer A won't be the one you were expecting perhaps anwer B might be the one... or something in between.
Never stop to ask yourself "silly" questions and don't be afraid of the "tone" of the answers.
You might answer back if you wish... as my people at the top floors always put it... never answer back if you want to keep your job.
I always answer back... quite politely... never offending... but I never cease to express my opinion even if I have to end up doing what I am told.

I trust you got what I am trying to say. ;)

Oh... just to go off topic... try to be in need of "petroleum jelly" and have to pop at the chemist in the middle of the morning... actually it was not me but a friend in deep need who just couldn't stand going and ask for it... your mother best friend is behind you and the guy at the counter goes like: it is going to be for a tatoo, isn't it?

And you go like: Well. Not really...

and the guy: Then what?

You explain very briefly in your polite english while everybody suddenly stops and listen... and the guy open up and read what is written on the box...

and the guy: Erm... that should be fine as well I think... :)

I believe that michelrod said it best and straight forward that there seems to be an "entitlement" expected by some members. "As an avid Vangelis fan it's very frustrating to know that Vangelis didn't release this music from Rossif's documentary. While this release makes a noble effort in giving us as much music as possible the narrator's voice can be heard on almost every track which is very irritating. For the most part the audio quality is very poor and reverb is used to make it sound more attractive. However the last track of the album "Un Aprs-Midi" is one of Vangelis' most evocative melancholy and stunningly beautiful pieces of his career. That alone makes this release a must."

Sebastian

"I find this release very upseting not due to the music itself but to the horrible work of the bootlegger. First of all the voice of the narrator is heard almost everywhere... Does the fact that is Vangelis music justify that the music is presented this way? Don't think so really... Moreover he speaks in French and I don't understand anything... (But that's MY problem I guess). But the real downside to this release is the reverb used in some tracks specially in 16 17 and 19 where the effect is so devastating that you can't even listen to the melody... What's so bad about mono? I really don't understand the behaviour of the producer unless he's deaf.
And yes there's some nice music here specially the last track wich is haunting to the extreme... Even when it has nothing to do with the rest of the stuff since it's taken from a Julian LLoyd Weber album."

Notes :

Once we had three quarter of luck... and now the remaining quarter with the lossless version we were kindly given.
Mucho obrigado to the original uploader! It goes without saying. :)

I am not sure he wish to stay behind the curtains but he is welcome to step up if he wish to come forward and get the deserved thanks. ;)

This is an attempt-to-a-soundtrack to the 1984 wildlife documentary, "Sauvage et Beau", composed and performed by Vangelis.
Vangelis produced several fruitful collaborations with French documentary filmmaker Frdric Rossif, composing and performing the soundtracks to almost twenty of Rossif's films, including "Sauvage et Beau." Unfortunately, most of them are now out-of-print and only three ("L'Apocalypse des Animaux", "La Fte Sauvage", and "Opra Sauvage") were given an official soundtrack release. However, the theme from "Sauvage et Beau" was included on the composer's 1996 compilation album, "Portraits".

The full list of Vangelis-scored Rossif documentaries (not including the 1980 documentary dedicated to Vangelis called "L'Arbre De Vie" directed by Rossif) consists of, in chronological order: "L'Apocalypse des Animaux" [1970-1971], "Georges Mathieu Ou La Fureur d'tre" [1971] (which at one point features an improvised performance by Vangelis], "Au Pays Des Visages" [1972] (on photographer Gisle Freund), "Georges Braque Ou Le Temp Diffrent" [1974], "La Fte Sauvage" [1975], "L'Opera Sauvage" [1975-1981], "Pablo Picasso Peintre" [1981], "Sauvage et Beau" [1984], "Splendeur Sauvage" [1986], "Pasteur Le Sicle" [1987], "De Nuremberg A Nuremberg" [1989], "Morandi" [1989] (on painter Giorgio Morandi), "Les Animaux De Frdric Rossif" [1989], "Beaut Sauvage" [1989].

Thanks dadadacicici ! What I enjoy and appreciate most about your posts is the amount/quality of the information and back info of the Vangelis Music. The music itself is a bonus or a "cherry on top" - if you will.

This time I made an extremely tricky one. :)

Anyone seen or read The Hobbit lately? "What have I got in my pocket?"
Answer that and you will know the password... ;)

No help this time... like in the joke of the two friends going hunting for ivory in an African forest... You all know that. Do you?

At some point one get bitten from a poisonous snake while taking a leak... yes---he gets bitten there---and the other friend run to the nearest village where he is told from the old doctor to rush back to his friend and suck the poison off where he was bitten...
He comes back and the other friend is deeply touched of his rushing to the village for him... but having though back of what he is about to do to save the life of his friend he just says: "Sorry my dear friend, can't help... There's absolutely nothing we can do. Doc said you have to die I'm afraid.

Good mid-August day everybody---not sure if over the Atlantic---and in all parts of this side of the ocean is a bank holiday---but here near the sea it is a national holiday... Have a good one! ;)

I'm not familiar with their work. Was wondering if anyone had ever heard of them.

"Vangelis Themes" Japan K2HD CD Limited Numbered Edition New SEALED CD | eBay (http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vangelis-Themes-Japan-K2HD-CD-Limited-Numbered-Edition-New-Sealed-CD-/311401110231)

"Vangelis Antarctica" OST Japan K2HD CD Limited Numbered Edition New SEALED CD | eBay (http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vangelis-Antarctica-OST-Japan-K2HD-CD-Limited-Numbered-Edition-New-Sealed-CD-/121584496435)

K2HD (http://www.stereomojo.com/K2%20HD/K2HDReview.htm) is basically acquiring a source (like Vangelis music on DAT 24bit 48kHz---if we are lucky---but that I doubt---or from the original final master tape on reel---if that made it 'intact' to this very day) at a higher sample rate using the so called 'magic' of the new analog to digital converters and working to the mastering stage at the given sample rate.
The process will add a given color to the music. New to it. You have to live up with this initial change.

All of this is going to make sense with a decent quality master. If they used the analog 2 channels master tape used for the very first master on cd that will make sense if the master is still playable by now.
That will involve a lot of post processing to get rid of the defects of the original mix and the analog media limitations though.
If they had the first transfer on DAT then all of the above magic will benefit of half its nominal magical.

The result will be a higher quality master that will benefit of the applied eq, reverb, compressors and stereo enhancers/plug-ins.

But there is a catch.

You are going to listen to that via a common CD player so all the above process will loose part of the 'magic' gained in the process since everything will be down-sampled to 16bit 44.1kHz.
You will still retain part of the air and clarity of the new technologies via dithering and better re-sampling algorithms... but that will be the merit of the mastering engineer for the new master.
And the result will be pretty similar to applying the same magic at the same resolution of the original master... as a matter of fact. It will be as good as the new remastering in the end... to most common hearing folks anyway. Audiophiles are a different beast...
The psychical cd in itself will be still of a better quality compared to common pressings on cd since the data will be pressed on a better support that will last more than the common cd layers as a matter of fact.
That translates in a less clicking cd in 50 years if you are going to live up to it... and I do wish you everybody so. ;)

I trust they will be using top A/D & D/A converters... but the benefit of the process is only audible at their original master resolution AND NOT THAT MUCH AT REDBOOK CD QUALITY.

Oh... and you will need a top amplifier, a top cd player with bollocks DA converters, speakers costing 6 wages for the couple of it... and a nice sound proof top room. :)

Having said that... hear for yourself and let us know via a sample of what you will be hearing! ;)

I think for the very same reason Amazon and iTunes are still selling only mp3's but not the lossless masters they used to get the lossy version we will be eventually buying.
There is a french site selling hi-resolution FLAC's of the latest six Vangelis remastering's and also including one that was not pressed on cd, Earth I believe (but I might be wrong and cannot locate the link of the site), but you need to be french in order to buy them. Though I might ask some nice and kind french peer to get them for me that should not be the whole point of the offering I think.

Are you sure you do want the original resolution of the masters? You do really need the gear to go with listening at such quality. :)

great audiophile gear really doesn't need to cost ridiculous amounts. The Ross Martin PCM1794A Outboard DAC 24 BIT 192Khz is only $197.95 and It is amazing.

The day I will be swapping my Apogee and the Focal's for a more intimate setup I might definitely be interested. :)

At this point I do trust you have the necessary "analogue" gear to run the audio out the Ross Martin! ;)

I've seen people living with music played via computer speakers which did not necessarily sound that bad. Stuff is targeted to fit in that vision of the music nowadays. But once you have tasted the sweets at the top of the shelves there's no going back. Only forward if you can live up your expectations "financially".

But that's where I stop. :)

Somehow I tend to agree with the above statement, but something needed to be done if asking for a decent rip of an original OWM version always got the crippled Arkhan version instead.
I am not meaning just this very thread, but the whole p2p network full of mislabeled shares.

Now at least people will know which is which when resolving to share their lossless before it will end up clicky and useless.

Some of us might have come to the Antarctica topic long before what might be written now. It might just be history for the few of us... but someone did came after (I just happened to come in between) and if any of them would have done it properly there would not be any need of getting always to the same wrong end of the Arhhan...

...after going through countless hd and dvd backups to put a full stop on something that keeps resurrecting not as I've always wished, I re-downloaded about twenty-four different shares on various p2p networks to check against what I was having, but always had to go back to the original backups because what I was downloading was either inaccurate, mislabeled or simply incomplete.
I never had a chance to check any original for the OWM and Arkhan releases so I am drawing my conclusions from what it was merely shared.

Oh... the initial request that lead to the repost is still valid:

COULD ANYONE SHARE A DECENT RIP OF A GENUINE (OR COPY OF COURSE!) OWM ANTARTICA VERSION?
INNER BOOKLET SCAN ALSO WELCOME! ;)

dadadacicici we are on very similar same wavelength.

I have been putting together a tentative "all the rest" release with all the tracks from all the compilations and hard to find singles. I tend not to listen to them to often and I would like to make a definitive master with all those separate releases. The vast majority are my rips i did with the best CD ripper i could find at the time the PLEXTOR PX-230A. A lot of people like it's precision. Also verifying the rip with AccurateRip.

For the past 5 days now i have been assembling my own private lossless files for some of these missing masters. Stuff i traded with Dennis over on the Elsewhere site years and years ago on Cassette through good old postal mail, transferred losslessly to PC. I have been comparing them to the other rips found on this thread and other threads, location through the years. I was quite excited to hear how much better some of them sound. For example i have a good copy of "Song is..." with Jon and Vangelis, much better then the version i was listening to. Another example is i was able to assemble a very accurate "Change We Must (Full Version) - Another Page of Life", and much better sounding version then the boot floating around.

Perhaps we could all assemble our best racks together or separate as you suggested.

If we did them separate perhaps we could set up some recommendations like no cross-fading tracks that sort of thing. Keeping as much of the original best quality tracks intact.

I myself an desperately looking for a truly lossless copy of "Bizarre Bazaar" from Alexander available only from the German and Borders Limited Editions, i have only been able to locate the mp3 version. I don't particularly like the track that much just really want it in a lossless format.

I guess i could post a tentative list and we could all make corrections and changes.

To tired to post that tonight, ill post soon.

Pre-emphasis - oh the Horror!

While reviewing and compiling some of the unreleased Vangelis tracks i stumbled upon a problem i had read about but forgotten a while back.

Pre-emphasis used on two CD's by Vangelis.

Opera Sauvage Elsewhere: Vangelis albums 3 (http://elsew.com/data/albums3.htm#OperaSauvage)
L'Apocalypse des Animaux Elsewhere: Vangelis albums 3 (http://elsew.com/data/albums3.htm#Apocalypse)
Both of my CD Rips sounded way to bright, now i know why.

Pre-emphasis is the first part of a noise reduction technique that was used for a brief time on CD's mostly in the 80's.
Read all about it here.
Pre-emphasis - Hydrogenaudio Knowledgebase (http://wiki.hydrogenaud.io/index.php?title=Pre-emphasis#cite_note-1)

here is a list of all the titles affected.
Pre-emphasis (release list) - cdHistory (http://www.studio-nibble.com/cd/index.php?title=Pre-emphasis_%28release_list%29)

you really might want to take a look at that list i need to correct quite a few myself other then Vangelis

So after some research and comparing different programs
https://www.hydrogenaud.io/forums/index.php?showtopic=99394&st=25&p=824806&#entry824806

and finding not all programs are equal. I finally settled on WaveEmph V1.11.
HAUPT (http://www.picosound.de/E_SOFT.HTM#emphasis)
Takes a little more effort but i can check each track.

No more worrying about using some DSP plug ins in Foobar2000 to correct Pre-emphasis now we can use a permanent solution. This fix will work on all audio players now as the wave files have been corrected.
So here are the permanently corrected versions of my rips of both Opera Sauvage And L'Apocalypse des Animaux from CD in FLAC.

I think the difference is very audible and hope you check them out. They still have the whole audio range, but are no longer overly bright.
Listen to these corrected versions just today i was amazed how they still maintained the highend spectrum but no longer had that "ringing" sound i had been used to. They sound much more neutral now.

*Updated* Been doing some late night listening with Headphones on Bit Matched playback in Foobar2000 and i am hearing parts of the song i have never heard before. Instruments in places i have never heard them, it's really amazing, please give it a good listen when you have the chance. These De-emphasized versions are just incredible.

I whipped up some album art included in the .rar files for you as well ;)

I'm confused here... honestly I have never given a though about pre-emphasis on cd's.
I have always though that it was something strictly related to EAC domain but not something outside the software to the point of affecting the data written on a cd. My bad...

It does affect the sound only if you are not ripping the cd as a cdimage since the track will lose the PRE EMP tag and will be affected on playback. An original cuesheet will preserve that information so that the needed player might compensate for that it seems.

On the analog domain I have always used the emphasis curve to compensate for the RIIA curve when sending files to cut a lathe for vinyl pressing, but that is done in a way to alter the original master to sound like that since any turntable will change it according to the quality of its components regarding the theoretical limit of them... Digital cd's to use the very same technique is really something new... and quite an horror as you anticipated.

Early cd's were sourced straight from the same masters used for vinyl pressing and a lot of people were rightly objecting about the lack of everything when hearing a cd compared to its vinyl counterpart.
Now we got way past that stage though we are losing that "rounded and warm" feel of a sound in a way..

As a technical side of the issue I would point out that any change of any given signal will be truncated by the resoultion of the original cd.

Try to work out a fade or a reverb tail on a 16 bit file and save the result as separate 32 bit float file and adding text dither or type 2 to get back to 16 bit.
THERE WILL BE A HUGE DIFFERENCE IN THE OUTPUT OF THE SIGNAL COMPARED TO A JOB DONE AT 16BIT RESOLUTION.

I am not sure WaveEmph is doing that and therefore applying the needed flat dither on the output though...
I would trust more dedicated plugins for that perhaps.... SoX is sounding as a better candidate if you do not want to use iZotope RX.
Still I would use something that will allow me to store the resolution of the needed calculations as 64 or 32 bit float file before going back to 16 bits...

How would a hardware CD player support that?

dadadacicici
09-16-2015, 09:36 PM
Standalone CD players are "made" to read the TOC of audio CD's as soon as you insert them. And if the TOC has written a value that corresponds to pre-emphasis, a particular built-in filter kick in applying a reverse eq curve on the output (called de-emphasis) in order to compensate for the extra high frequencies content stored on the cd.

It is all done internally and "analogically" via the DAC of the cd player as far I can understand.

Though I know the theory applied to vinyl "cutting" this very technique applied to digital domain is something I was not aware until this very post by gloomfrost.

Basically you either need to play those particular cd's in a standalone player, either you need to add a de-emphasis component to your preferred player. Foobar does have something for it. iTunes claims it has. Also WMP. Check the links in gloomfrost's post.

Or you need the files as posted above to enjoy those particular two titles via computer! :)

If you own an original it is not going to be a problem. It never was, even when I ripped it very lately because I always rip as cdimage. It would have been if I ripped it as separate wav files without cue sheet.

But as we might see... there is indeed a FLAGS PRE that is not on any other Vangelis rip... except L'Opera Sauvage it seems.

Bravo to gloomfrost for having brought the issue forward! ;)

Still I would use something that will allow me to store the resolution of the needed calculations as 64 or 32 bit float file before going back to 16 bits...

yeah i think you have a point here dadadacicici. I am going to do some more research and try using SoX to determine the best rate settings to re-sample a file and retain the highest quality

It appears that the SoX de-emphasis filter is "much more accurate than analogue implementations in CD players"

So give me a few days to tinker around with SoX. I will update the original post with the high quality settings.

BTW your RIAA equalization curve analogy is spot on ;)

dadadacicici

Audacity is using the SoX engine so you might want to try with that. There should be a sort of preset named "de-emphasis" or something like that I am hoping.
Since you will be changing (even if slightly) also the "vertical" resolution of the samples while applying the "horizontal" sampling process (rewriting the samples also "vertically" basically) it might be a good idea to use a Type 2 dithering option (or flat dither via Ozone MBIT+/None/16/High) when exporting since the software audio engine will be working at 32 bit.
The dither option is opinable of course... but decide for yourself on that.

By the way: my copy of "Opera Sauvage" might not be suffering from the issue perhaps... check with yours and let me know in case! :)

PS: It turns out that the newer build of CueRipper might not be detecting Emphasis on some cd's due to a different specification of the use of the filter in a different place rather than in the TOC cd as the software might be expecting it. This is only affecting a bunch of cd's really. I forwarded the issue to the maker though. EAC is still detecting it all right it seems. So my copy should be the same of yours I am expecting.

First of all ,thanks for sharing this . I've been listening to both of them right now and I'm sure that I'm not in a kind of suggestion state (multitrack suggestion maybe?) . They sound definitively better than official versions . I have original Cds in flac and i can hear a warmer and richer sound from De-emphasized version with somewhat of Vinyl sound like experience . I've been listening to that albums , specially Opera Sauvage , for a lot of years (from 1979 exactly) and I liked a lot what I've listened to in this flac version .
I'll try to make the same with some of the Cd's on the list that I own waiting for a little miracle .

Thanks a lot again ,( enjoying now your gift with my headphones turning back home )

Thanks vcnbcn, after hearing these CD's this way for years, your right the difference is amazing. I will still try to see if i can make them sounds even better using the SoX engine as dadadacicici's suggested. Just need more free time, until then glad you like them.

I only got round to listening to "Opera Sauvage" last night, and the difference is astonishing. I will have to get my turntable out of storage to relisten to the vinyl for comparison, but it is true, it has the warmth that has been missing on CD.

If you load the Equalizer module in iZotope Ozone there is a preset called "Emphasis - De-Emphasis Curve".
THAT WAS THE BEST SOUNDING OPTION OUT OF WHAT I TRIED SO FAR. PERIOD.
I could reproduce the filter setting with an analog eq but that did introduce a tiny bit of "coloring" like the analog converter will also do (though in a positive way most of the times).
In this particular case less coloring might be the preferred option and you will find that the Digital option of the EQ Mode of the plug-in (more transparent compared to the Analog option) might be more true to what you would be wanting to hear.
SoX did not sound bad, but I preferred Ozone to tell the truth.
You can also "squeeze" one or two extra dB's once you are there and notice that the added FLAT DITHER might add "something" you might like to the whole picture when converting to 16 bit (having set your DAW to internal 32 or 64 floating point routine of course). :)
Older analog to digital converters did suffer of a more "square" sound due to the limitation of the hardware at the time. Most of the old cd's exhibit that particular feel when compared to its vinyl counterpart. Most of Vangelis older stuff (and tons of the back catalogue of most music you might be having) has that.
You get used to it when you fall into the trap of putting the cd in the cd player instead of taking out the vinyl from the paper bag, getting rid of the dust and enjoying side A... then getting up again and do the same for side B and so on...

Whatever... you got the message I trust! :)

Sorry for the English Atget! ;)

And also welcome to Vicente! ;)

PS: I do not "personally" have the Direct Demos but someone I know said he has a copy of it on tape. Probably the same tape used for the cd you are referring to (though several generations older I suspect.)
I was never able to "borrow" that tape for a proper preservation unfortunately... nor he is going to part with it even for an hour. :(

A user by the name of Flavioya mentioned in a thread about a remastered version of Somewhere in Time, that he will be posting similarly remastered versions of Antarctica and Themes. The work was apparently done for the Hong Kong market by an outfit called K2HD.

I'm not familiar with their work. Was wondering if anyone had ever heard of them.

I would really appreciate hearing from anyone who has bought or heard these yet. I would love to know if they are of the higher quality they promise and if they are worth the cost?
Thanks.

It's been available for a long time but has sound effects I can almost guarantee. Not worth listening to, may as well just watch the film. Reason it's been so difficult to share is because hardly anybody would have bought it in the first place. Here's a link if anyone wants to buy it

The Esoteric version is edited.

I was excited when I heard that this an other Vangelis RCA albums were being remastered, but I've found that the so called enhancements have ruined the quality and taken away some of the suttle effects of the albums.

In the case of Heaven and Hell, there is a ridiculous amout of reverb on most of the tracks which just seems to have been shoved on regardless of some of the more interesting uses of echo, especially in the first track of Part 1 on the CD. Also, in the Symphony to the Powers B section (found in Heaven and Hell Part 1), some music has been cut out. In the track known on the LP as 12 O'clock (Part of heaven and hel Part 2), a strange echo effect has been added which is at least rhythmic and in time with the music, but isn't in keeping with the original album. While these aspects are bad enough, the other major disappointment is that the CD still only has two long tracks for each side when it's quite clear there are meant to be 10 separate tracks.

While understanding that an artist has the right to review their work from time to time, it doesn't always follow that those who appreciate their work have to endorse their tinkerings. Might be of interest to collectors, but I would suggest that the 1989 RCA CD version is still the better version to get for now if you've never heard this before.

I would get the original pressing. I sold all of the remastered versions I was having. The japanese one was missing dynamic. The master tape used for the Esoteric one was beyond repair. It has the punch but not everything else. Tampering with the original cd pressing gave me far better results compared to the battered vinyl.

If you find a decent vinyl copy and you try to match the eq to the cd press you will find that the cd is the closer version to the original.

Personal opinion of course. :)

Here's a rarity. Vangelis performed a concert together with Symphonic orchestra and choir. It was broadcasted in live on the radio but I still haven't found entire concert with this high quality audio. This "video" is missing roughly about 40 minutes from the entire concert.

Tracklist:
00:00 Yin & Yang / Tao of love
08:42 Vangelis Solo 2 (pure improvisation)
21:18 Himalaya
34:59 Encore - Pulstar

Vangelis performed his part with two Yamaha CS-80 and Roland Jupiter 4 synthesizers and with Roland RE-301 Space Echo/Chorus tape delay effect. He also played his Koto for "Tao of love" song, I presume.

This concert featured Vangelis accompanied by a symphonic orchestra with choirs. It was organized by BRT2 (Belgian public broadcasting organization) "Omroep Brabant" (Belgian local broadcast service) "dienst schone kunsten" (an art organization) and the Belgian Royal Circus. It was broadcast live on the radio. The music opened with Pulstar. It started as the usual version (except some synths replacedby the orchestra) and gradually transformed into a nice symphonic reworking with all sorts of variations on the theme. After that most of the China album was played followed by somenew material announced as "Vangelis solo 2". After that the crowd wouldn't stop cheering and Pulstar was played again as an extra. BBC Conductor John Pool conducted "Philharmonisch Orkest van Brussel" and the choirs "Leuvens universitair koor" and "Zing het samen (Antwerpen)". Michel Ripoche also appeared playing a violin solo. VANGELIS - HEAVEN and HELL (1975) RCA 1st pressing, FLAC, 945mb + recovery data, artwork, tested (24/96 LP Rip)

Perhaps it it time to post the version I remastered a while ago based on the vinyl experience.
If I am not mistaken the version posted by Atget should be the one posted on a spanish blog a while ago... (?)

Here's a rarity. Vangelis performed a concert together with Symphonic orchestra and choir. It was broadcasted in live on the radio but I still haven't found entire concert with this high quality audio. This "video" is missing roughly about 40 minutes from the entire concert.

There is a tape from a member of the audience available. I should have the original someplace courtesy of a nice peers also posting here.

I was working on it a while ago... A Xmas gift definitely! :)

That is exactly my same problem. A bloomin' 2tb went nuts and I am going nuts to recover what I can. :(

As a rule of thumb if you can plug it fine, back everything up without waiting tomorrow. Better if you plug the hd in the computer and not using the external case...

There should be two different versions floating around.
A rip of what made it on the bootleg cdr release and the tape rip from a cassette. Atget has posted the tape rip. I have it in lossless if everyone might need. Quality will be pretty the same though.

I've been reading bits and pieces lately about "Salut, Jerusalem", a Vangelis sountrack to a Henri Chapier documentary from 1972. So far, I have only found one track, on Youtube, and wonder if anyone has more information, or music?

To hear the music as heard on the release you are pointing out you need to get the movie from the INA archives and highlight only the musical sections of the documentary... like it was done for the release in question as a matter of fact.
If you remember the "Crime & Passion" and "5000 Lies" releases you are on the right track of figuring out what to expect from what has survived from the original tapes...

Vangelis - Amore OST released on PINK vinyl.

Vangelis' soundtrack to the Henri Chapier's film Amore has been released on pink vinyl, 42 years after the film was issued, and not with the permission of Vangelis, apparently.

It will cost €30.00, so hopefully someone will be daft enough to part with the money, and we can get a download!

http://www.discogs.com/Evangelos-Papathanassiou-Amore-Bande-Originale-Du-Film-De-Henry-Chapier/release/7815129

Do be very careful when spending nearly €50 for this.

It should also be listed http://www.rareandmintrecords.com/liste/?srt=1&lng=1&what=artiste&tete=Papathanassiou&fmt=0&search=GO%21 and http://monstermelodies.fr/

but it is not, though they claim to have pressed 1000 copies.

The cost for pressing 1000 copies on pink vinyl plus covers are around 2 euros each. So make up your mind about what is fair and what is right considering that Vangelis will not get any royalties.

Collectors do not care anyway, do they? Nice cover, perfect addition to their vaults... another fine day... what else.

There is only the video rip of it available as far as we should be concerned. And if they pressed that on vinyl you might end up being a bit disappointed.

Anybody still have Alexander FYC Thread 128453

Never Mind this (someone is helping me with this)
also if anybody has this http://www.vangelis-rarities.com/index.php?methode=methode1&id=117 I could really use a lossless copy, because my "The Bounty" project is stuck in limbo without it

dadadacicici

Let's see if I can dig out the Alexander FYC (http://www.vangelis-rarities.com/index.php?methode=methode1&id=161) promo...

The WD9405 Edition of The Bounty (http://www.vangelis-rarities.com/index.php?methode=methode1&id=117) soundtrack is the very same tape that made it on yet another cdr's release, so you will not gain much quality from any lossy copy of it perhaps. The spectrum is already chopped and the missing dolby reduction has already done its damage.

The other lossless releases of the soundtrack will get you to the very same point you are aiming.

Most of the people here (the ones willing to post it at least) does not have that I'm afraid. Good luck with the others though...

Christmas was not that long ago and they might still feel the warm generosity of the season!

But not unless they are visited by the three ghosts of the story we all know at least! :)

By the way... you forgot to add The Bounty thread to your threads signature. ;)

You are spot on with the quality, but there still are advantages.

Example (with one of the 2 tracks I already have)

Top: WD9405 - Track 17 Turning Point
Bottom: Standard Version - Track 15 Forbidden Love

The area in green contains singing and laughing mixed in with the music

plus I think there is at least one track not on the Standard Version

The cues on this version I am having, let's call it FAKE WD9405 even if it is not most likely (track duration is different), are mostly lifted from a VHS or DVD rip and clearly equalized and normalized (and not so properly) when the music share the same demo tape source.
On some cues the result is better compared to the OWM-9503/4 transfer of the original demo tape, but if that was achieved from the DVD sources I cannot tell.

It is just so confusing, so I never got round to post it. I preferred not to add to the confusion.
It can be done much better, but I made a point of concentrating on another score a while ago... and I am still busy at it from time to time... so I have not compared with the VHS/DVD rips I am having... but you should still have all is needed from the Blu-ray I trust. :)

Edit: The version I am having is not the WD9405. It only borrows the track titles. The original WD9405 appears to share the unedited cues used also for the edited OWM-9503/4.

Hi, have you got a link ? I could clean the sound up and re-post the soundtrack. That would be appreciated.

If the cartridge is magnetized, the needle is worn out or not aligned and the speed is not properly set you'd better off getting the original vinyl perhaps... it is still cheap...
I tried once... never ever again. I bought the vinyl and that made things a lot easier.
Perhaps lajszer might ask a friend? Or he can supply a more popular piece of music from his collection along with it in order to compensate for whatever it might be not properly set up so to make the necessary comparisons with a first generation transfer on cd... 32bit float 88.2Khz possibly...

I'd say I'd be happy even with a lossy version of it since I NEVER HEARD IT... except a couple of cues that clearly show that the OWM mixed them together to get a longer edit. :)

hi! does anyone of friends have these albums from Vangelis: Blade Runner - Cliffhanger and Radio Plays / Blade Runner - Nemo Studios Master Sessions / GEORGE ROMANOS-IN CONCERT AND IN THE STUDIO 1968 / Blade Runner - Tapes version

Cliffhanger and Radio Plays seems to be a very rare bird and if you find someone who has it please let me know? Nemo Studios Master Sessions - never heard of it. Unless you are referring to The Tapes Collection 2010? Or it's one of those urban legends? . . . ? As for the Tapes version it was the original bootleg and was of poor quality. The many bootlegs that followed contained those tracks and were a vast improvement.

As for GEORGE ROMANOS-IN CONCERT AND IN THE STUDIO 1968 I'll check my library once I am on the right 'puter or perhaps another member will chime in!

Donnor

"Nemo Studios Master Sessions" is no urban legend; I saw it listed for trade on two forums years ago, and have been hunting for it ever since. It bears no resemblance to the 2010 Tapes Collection.

I'm assuming that by "Tapes version", kababi refers to the 1982 bootleg cassette; if so, that boot has at least two exclusive cues, one of which ("Leon's Interrogation") has never been heard outside of the film.

But if you saw it and never heard it, then it becomes an urban legend. It never existed in reality. I'd say it doesn't exist at all and what ever you saw was a lie ?

Lets face it the new Amore soundtrack is really shite. Thank you to the person that posted it though. The Rosetta Mission ? crap. What is Vangelis hearing these days. I know he's getting a bit old. I'm sorry but the stuff he's producing these days is getting a bit out of date.

... you are the second person that I am hearing thinking that about Vangelis latest works. And hearing it from someone that had all Vangelis music to date made me wondering a bit on how other people would relate to that as well.

Surely he has changed... as we all will do in a way or another... the soundtrack for "Twilight of Shadows" movie is pretty ace though... whenever they will be ready to release that... as usual.

Coming next on my to do list along The Tegos tapes and everything else

Blade runner nexus 6 version vol. 1 IS THE BLOOMIN' "OFF WORLD EDITION" WITH A BLOOMIN' ALTERNATE COVER. CAN EVERYBODY GET THAT?

No... you can't perhaps... but we do not have that version sorry. :)

I'm just a bit confused as to what happened with the experimental soil festivities and what we expected after that. Think he's sold out. I've not enjoyed a Vangelis album after 1492.

It's simple. He got too comfortable (with his late 90's equipment) - this kills productivity / creativity / "whatever".

It's simple. He got too comfortable (with his late 90's equipment) - this kills productivity / creativity / "whatever".

I spent so much time emulating a "real drummer" programming a couple of Boss machines that when I finally got a better Roland and everything layered on a couple of buttons I gradually lost that sense of productivity / creativity... on that I do agree.
But people also change with time.

And he has changed.

I played a Prophet 5 once and the way it was done forced me doing different things.
I guess a lot comes into play with the kind of instruments you also use to catch a particular moment. Inspiration translated into sound.
The studio and the ease to express your creativity without limitations or pressures also play a role there.
When you are younger everything has a vibe that gradually grows lower as the time goes by...
Quite often a song would just come out using tweaked settings on the pedals... an evening spent watching a movie or hanging out in a place. I guess it is the same for every musician... only that Vangelis was definitely deeper on that regard.
But at some point you need to walk different roads...

When I started playing techno simply experimenting with the keyboard my band at the time though better of selling back the keyboards... preventing me to walk... damn them... :)

At what point was he supposed to stop? Keep on doing The Forminx? Aphrodite's Child? China? Like any artist, he changes. No REAL artist will stand still, repeat themselves. That sort of thing is for boy bands and the aptly named Status Quo. While I don't slavishly love everything Vangelis does, I appreciate, and understand the variety of styles.

Something else to remember, is that Vangelis is constantly improvising, and we only hear a tiny fraction of the results. We have no way of knowing whether there is another Albedo 0.39, or Soil Festivities in that archive, but because he has been there, done that, he won't release it.

No unfortunately I was really disappointed. I remember buying it and being extremely disappointing that music was still missing. It was cruel joke. The only track that stood out for me was Sweet Solitude.

Think you may be right to an extent. I got that feeling too. I know digital is easier than analogue. I just thought a lot of it was pretentious, especially the opera stuff. Mask was fantastic though.

All versions later sold on eBay and all subsequent re-edits from the original full length versions came from this initial share. A big "thank you" the the original ripper and poster.

This publication by dr. Tegos is divided into three sections, the first giving a general review of the commonest pathology of the spinal cord, the second detailed descriptions of 35 representative patients, and the third contains video recordings of the operations of these patients. The tapes contain no less than 12 hours of video, and as dr. Tegos puts it; "To provide a more pleasant, relaxing and less monotonous experience even for established neurosurgeons, Vangelis Papathanasiou has composed music for each of the operations separately." Be sure to check out the enclosed pages for a description of Vangelis' technique of "immediateness" for composing this massive amount of tunage. Our providing friend, who wants to remain anonymous, spent the christmas chopping up the 12 hours of tape for us to enjoy. Thank you for the effort! Here's a vid of case 24 to "enjoy", and check out the comments for links to the entire lot.

His bootlegs are numerous so you would in that case need to be even more specific of the albums that you are after.
