Before we all lose our minds keep in mind that Miller just spent two years shooting, editing and overseeing MM:FR and before that endured a decade and a half of delays, natural and man made that prevented him from making the film. Give the man a chance to decompress and shoot that smaller film he has in mind.

BTW: Directors have changed their mind: Mendes said he'd never do another Bond film after Skyfall and after a break did Spectre. Tarantino said he'd never film Hateful Eight after the script leaked. Look what happened there.

And when it comes to screwing up franchises no one can compete with Fox: it hosed all three FF films and almost sank X-Men with Last Stand and Origins. Someone finally bought a brain and brought Singer back on.

Someone finally bought a brain and brought Singer back on.

They should have had Matt Vaughn continue to work on the series... Singer doesn't entirely 'get' X-Men. First Class was more fun to watch than DoFP (though to be fair Vaughn helped write that film; I don't know if he has any involvement with Apocalypse).

The man who brought X-Men to life doesn't "get it?" You'll have to explain to me in what ways Singer fails to grasp the X-Men.

TheSkeletonMan939
01-12-2016, 10:37 PM
It's all just so dark. There's never any lightheartedness or any glimmers of hope. The playfulness and fun factor in the original comics (or at least the earlier ones I've read) is nonexistent in this series. Tonally it doesn't "feel" like the X-Men.

First Class captured the feel of the original X-Men comics as well as providing sophisticated story-telling and character development unseen in any of Singer's films. I feel like I know the character of Banshee from First Class better than I do Storm. I know absolutely nothing about Storm's character, her attitude, her anything. She's just there. Same with Jean Grey, or Iceman.

Whereas a throwaway character like Banshee is clearly a nervous but enthusiastic X-Man who wants to use his powers to their fullest potential. I learned this from all five of his lines, and his actions. Storm et al. are plot devices to Singer, not character, and it shows.

But Singer just reels in viewers by alluding to the dark tone his films have. Because kids like edgy shit. Vaughn takes something as goofy as the X-Men, injects witty dialogue and fun storytelling, and makes it all pan out.

And the costumes:

http://static.srcdn.com/slir/w786-h393-q90-c786:393/wp-content/uploads/x-men-apocalypse-characters.jpg

Is Singer allergic to the color yellow, aka the color the X-Men's costumes should be? Does he think the yellow costumes are too cheesy? Vaughn apparently doesn't agree, and he makes it work:

Finally, the soundtrack details for Zootopia have been revealed! The cover, as expected, it's the poster. Which, does not go very bad, don't ya think? Releasing March 4th, just like the american release. Which is weird. I kinda expected there'd be european releases along the european dates of February. Something in me thinks it'll still happen. If not, I'll have to wait til March 4th to hear Mick's score again! Also, as expected, Mick returns to the puns! And the number of puns in this one are very small, considering HOW many he could have done, with this movie, haha. I think he does the pun titles so he doesn't reveal much spoilers, am I right? Well, if you've seen the movie or heard spoilers, there's a very clever spoiler in the tracklist.. now I'm wondering if the score will be complete, or almost, in the release. I mean Disney did put complete Big Hero 6 and Frozen, right? Why not Zootopia? The tracklist seems too short, to me. Hmm. Who knows. Wondering if I'm gonna have to put a wishlist on Zootopia's recording sessions! Just kidding.

A web article. I was thinking about the recent remakes of animated classics just now (particularly the likes of The Jungle Book coming out in April) and it suddenly hit me. What about a CGI remake of 1978's feature length animated adaptation of Richard Adam's best-selling novel Watership Down? Surely someone must have had the same idea by now?? I Google it and look what I find (http://www.rotoscopers.com/2015/05/18/bbc-produced-watership-down-remake-to-air-next-year/).

I have to say, as a huge fan of the book and the (admittedly rather graphic and disturbing) 1978 animation, I am super excited about this. Sometime this year, too! :D

Anyone else here a fan of the novel and/or film?

I saw the movie last year, though I really do need a rewatch (wasn't focusing too much on it, as it was a online watch, and was multi-tasking) but by what I saw, it's quite exagerated. It is by no means for children, and maybe has adult topics hidden, but it is not the worst or most disturbing animated movie - you wanna see disturbed? Try out a similar movie from the same people that did Watership Down, Plague of something, don't remember the name but it's about dogs; now THAT one has intense scenes.. do not forget Felidae, wich had crude gore scenes just to justify it was adult.

Lol, check my edit. Plague Dogs is FUCKED UP.

Yeah, that's the one I'm talking about, that one's definitely not for kids - Watership Down is a children movie compared to that one.

---------- Post added at 09:17 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:13 AM ----------

This comment in the article is funny:

"England; we're polite, refined, we love tea and will hate-fuck your child's fragile psyche so hard that they'll wake up screaming for months. You're welcome, pip-pip and cheerio! Well, you know, we used to have stories like Dickens'... Then WWI happened, and after that we just collectively decided that it's better to teach them as fast as possible that life ends quickly and pointlessly. You Yanks are far too soft. The children will never be prepared to die for King, Country and Tea."

---------- Post added at 09:18 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:17 AM ----------

There's another horrible part of the movie that wasn't mentioned in the article, and that I'd like to show you guys, but I won't, because it's an spoiler for the movie.

Fuck that.

You didn't even mention the ending of Plague Dogs, where they swim out to sea to find the (nonexistant) Isle of Dog while the freaking Army hunts them. They drown, which was Rowf's greatest fear after all the animal testing, and then a gospel song comes on over the credits to tell us how this is a good thing because at least the poor dead dogs can't feel pain anymore. I was severely depressed for a full week after watching it.

Want to know the worst part about Plague Dogs? At the end of the movie, they escape from the researchers that are chasing them (they're being stalked by them, E.T.-style, throughout the whole movie) by desperately swimming out into the ocean, and they are heavily implied (by which I mean "the movie basically comes out and says it") to have drowned in the water. But that didn't happen in the book. In the book, they're rescued and returned to one of the dogs' original owners, leaving them happy.

Yes, that's right. They changed the ending to be more traumatizing. You probably figured "oh, they just aren't considering kids, these movies are for adults!", but no. THEY'RE JUST TOTAL DICKS.

Oh, apparently the ending of the movie is right, it's just that people complained to the writer so much that he had to change it to a happy ending. (the book)

Both of the books and movies were made for adults, as he said, and it's known, it's just some people are ignorants and think every animated something has to be for kids. I believe the writer wrote the dog book to show how cruel we are to animals.

Watch your language, please. ;)

I am indeed a fan. I read the novel many years ago and then watched the film. The novel gripped me, and the film captured the exact same atmosphere. It's definitely not a children's film though. Far too graphic and disturbing. The book was written by a guy who fought in both world wars, and the characters were based on real people he knew from the army.

Anyway, Sulley, with no offense to your liking of Watership Down, how can you be happy or excited about a remake being done nowadays? Specially Watership Down in CGI? One thing of the movie will have to be bad unless there's thousands spent on it to make it of good quality. Either the CGI is not the best, or the script.

CGI remake of 1978's feature length animated adaptation of Richard Adam's best-selling novel Watership Down

I am going to skip that remake.
it's going to look like something right out of the Dark Side of th Treehouse channel.
Wonder Pets on drugs and Satanic rituals.

I got a 720p encode I've been holding off on for awhile. I used to watch it as a kid but don't remember much.
Brain blocked it out mostly. Rabits were never the same and every time I see any cute, fuzzy animal, there's always a dark part of my brain that fears anything cute.

I think I'll watch it tonight.

Christ, dude, you liked the animated movie? I read about it on a Cracked article (http://www.cracked.com/article_19768_6-terrifying-childrens-cartoons-from-around-world_p2.html) and it sounded like something the Devil would make.

Edit: wait, apparently that's a different movie by the same guy... but seriously, what the hell?

I am going to look for those. :awsm: So many messed up ones that I would want to see.

Not terrifying but definitely creepsome for the kiddies:
The Adventures of Mark Twain (1985) (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0088678)
The Mysterious Stranger is really the only reason I bought it on bluray.

Pretty sure there's an article disturbing "family" movies.
Return To Oz is questionable for kids.

This needs to be an emote.
Day one of a new leak, it would get overused.

Damn. Opened one related link on Cracked and now I can seem myself having 7 tabs open... :erm:

Haha what?!?!? Did that really happen? I have to see this now.
That's two boy jungle movies I need to see.
George of the Jungle for the black people and now Tarzan cartoon for that death scene.
The other deaths really stuck with me and was all I could remember after watching the movie. All my other friends were singing the musical numbers from the film but all I could sing was the deathly cries of the villain's final breath. What a sweet Ode To Mysery.

They had a drought of content a couple years ago to the point where they started re-posting their older articles and pretending they were new. Now they prefer political content and personal stories, with jokes being reserved for image captions (and even those are lazily done). Their current crop of writers simply don't know how to be funny.

our very first Ultra HD Blu-ray reviews -- Kingsman: The Secret Service and The Martian -- will be up sometime tomorrow followed by a few more 20th Century Fox titles on Thursday. And we're working on a review of the Samsung USA UBD-K8500 Ultra HD Blu-ray player itself (for next week I think).

Can't really imagine there being any more detail to The Martian.
It's very photographic, but all the details were caputred in 1080p as a lot of the landscape and even interiors of most places are very clean surfaces.
Clean as in, nothing complex or fancy. You can easily downscale to 720p and not miss much.
Mountain rangers are largely predictable surfaces that it would be easy to downscale then upscale again to see if you lose any details.

Kingsmen, however, is set in real-life world.
The opening bar scene alone would have far more details in the background with the random objects and furnishings.

The Martian is a wallpaper movie whereas Kingsmen is an action movie with motion.

But I'll wait until their full review to see if they mention any difference in color as the UHD-BD is supposed to have far more allowance for colors over what BD offers.

Yeah, however, it is not what people think, "wanting to beat the dead horse for the sake of money".. a play was done first, and those who can't go to it, wanted to have a book of it, so Rowling listened to the pleas and did it.. Rowling as a writer and spokeperson is kinda weighing down, as in Twitter she has been showing quite the liberal, progressive, "go-with-what's-famous-at-the-time" point of view.

Her last novels didn't tank, at all, I remember most when they came out - they just simply haven't been as sucessful as HP. The books have been sucessful as normal for novels.

Something really sad:

Back when D23 was going on in August I attended a small panel about the restoration of disney films during which they showed a couple clips of a BEAUTIFUL scan of Song of the South intermingled in the presentation. Of course very quickly everyone gasped at seeing it and got excited, at which point the guy explained that they aren't restoring it or releasing it, but that the studio wanted an archival scan. This frustrated me to all hell because the couple clips they showed had very minimal damage and would be a very fast, easy cleanup and the colors were gorgeous. The insistence of Disney to not release this film is baffling. It would take maybe a couple of months to get it to a presentable point and would be easy profit for Disney and they STILL have no interest in a release because (to quote the presenter): "We don't make the decisions of what gets restored and released. Corporate makes those decisions based on what they think people will buy. Sad, and there are many things I would love to restore, but it is a business after all."

They have the ways and mediums to actually release it but they just, for whatever reasons, stupid conservative fair, they just don't want to.. and I wish this ban would be lifted one day..

There's also a rumour saying that Disney may have sold Criterion the rights to release the movie in their collection - seems a wish rumour more than any actual thing, but one can keep wishing..

Hi all,

We were not allowed to respond to any request nor to post any statement, but now it is official:

SlySoft has been shut down after almost 13 years. The official statement on the website (http://www.slysoft.com/ or http://h4.slysoft.com/) is kind of short:

"Due to recent regulatory requirements we have had to cease all activities relating to SlySoft Inc.
We wish to thank our loyal customers/clients for their patronage over the years. "

I am really sorry for that, but this is final. SlySoft is gone...

Thanks to all our customers and supporters for their loyalty.

Goodbye red fox...

I was thinking of buying a lifetime license at the end of the year.
Good thing I didn't.

At least there's alternatives like MakeMKV and DVDFab.
DVDFab has "Passkey" which operates like "AnyDVD".
Passkey is separate from their usual encoding tools; it's just a decrpytion/region-removal tool.

I wonder if they actually shot some 'mature' content or if they'll just be adding digital blood everywhere like in The Wolverine extended cut.

Snyder completed BvS before Deadpool even started filming so this is not a case of Warner climbing onto Deadpool's coattails. Warner and DC seemed to have decided to go dark with their superhero universe which would be in keeping with the tone set by Nolan's Batman films and MoS.

The MPAA has given the Blu-ray Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice: Ultimate Edition an "R" for "scenes of violence" so make of that what you will. The UE is also an extended cut. Warner hasn't released its street date yet.

The success of Deadpool has revived the animated version of The Killing Joke and it will go "R." Warner was looking to release it after Watchmen but when that "R" rated superhero film failed at the box office Warner dropped the project.

Someone should send Ryan Reynolds a thank you note.

P.S. Maybe Warner should consider re-releasing the Director's Cut of Watchmen in theaters. Maybe the audience is ready for "R" rated superheroes?

Top Gun Thirtieth Anneversary o_O how many times are they going to re-release that?

Criterion releasing Terrence Malicks wallpaper movie: The New World

The old bluray is pretty enough, for being a VC-1 transfer.
The youtube clips there for the original print and the remastering, the old bluray looks like the remastered already.

If TNW is for the UHD-BD, then that would be worth looking into.
If it's to replace the existing BD, they'd need to pull a miracle of some sort or they're just rehashing for the sake of new covers.

They're making another Predator movie.

Everything about it is all rumors:
"direct sequel to the first movie"
http://bloody-disgusting.com/news/3381482/the-hunt-begins-for-the-predator-in-2018/

Although his opinion on Predators, I don't get.

I never read any of the public statements about the pre-production and production of Predators.
I also read not public press content about the whole of Predators so I don't know if the author is being too biased towards the first movie or basing off facts.
 A blogger using facts. I just tickle myself sometimes.

I don't know if Predators was meant to be a remake/reboot of the original or aim to trump it.
Off the bat, the two are completely separate films from the same universe.
"group of people face unknown entities" doesn't make it anything at all like the first film.
Film 1: Earth
Predators: Unknown planet

This one is made by that hack Jeph Loeb. Ultimate Spider-Man and Hulk and the Agents of SMASH are garbage just like this show.

I extra despise them because Spec. Spider-Man and A:EMH were cancelled to make way for Loeb's shows. The second half of A:EMH is almost complete garbage as well, because Loeb had his grubby fingers all over the writing of the episodes.

Like Young Justice, Spec. Spider-Man was another Weisman show unceremoniously cancelled too soon. The other showriter, Tim Cook, went on to make Mystery Incorporated (which also kicks major ass). It's interesting how all the best cartoon adaptations are made by the same people, and it's pretty revealing how low writers for cartoons can get away with aiming.

Hiatus Helper: Composer Brian Reitzell Talks the Music of NBC’s Hannibal [SDCC Interview]
http://www.tvgoodness.com/2014/08/29/hiatus-helper-composer-brian-reitzell-talks-the-music-of-hannibal-sdcc-interview/

As we get out to the fight, I did my own variation, and that’s just a piano. It’s a piano playing the Bach aria from the Goldberg Variations. And the Goldberg Variations are based on variations of the baseline, it’s 20-something of them, not the melody. So I did my own variation, then I time-stretched it over seven hours. And I swear to God start to finish that took me over 20 hours, and it’s a nine and a half minute long piece of music. I mean, the concept of it, I had to build onto it, add bass, add things to it. And the rearranging of the piece and the concept of stretching it, and then that happened really quickly.

 Reminds me of the time Hans Zimmer tapped his pencils for a few days to get the Joker concepts rolling.

Isn't it interesting how a company so incredibly powerful in the computer world has to sink to these tactics to get people to use their software?

I think it's more about the spying.
Win10 comes complete with spying on everything you do, type or access. There's some ways to get around this.

But recently the FBI want backdoor access to all new Apple devices. Anything on iOS.

They really want Big Brother to happen.
Given the need for such security in such a "free world", I'd say we need it.

When they gave out Win10 for free on launch, I was suspicious.
And it's nothing to do with jokes about "the only way to get their product out".
It's more about the widespread security protocols.
Make something free, and everyone wants it. Everyone has it? Good, everyone's monitored.
Now they can really catch the bad guys out there.
Terrorists, pedophiles, rapey religious cults, tax evasion specialists.

laser printed vinyl?
Wouldn't that defeat the aesthetic faults of the clunkly medium?

I guess it's more like a future scifi movie where vinyls are made on-the-spot vending machines full of lasers.
Put it in your player, put it in your pocket, put in your head.

Get the vintage tactile contact of a vinyl.
It feels like a vinyl record. It smells like a vinyl record. And it will taste like one too!

If they do get laser printing going, I'm sure they can do more with it later down the road.

The Hot Seat: Once Upon a Time bosses answer your burning questions

"Will we get a Judy Hopps from Zootopia reference?
HOROWITZ: Not this season.
KITSIS: Definitely next year. We have her. We have Judy Hopps."

http://www.ew.com/article/2016/03/10/once-upon-time-spoilers-hot-seat-horowitz-kitsis

At first I wasn't believing it until a friend sent the interview to me. At first I didn't care/wasn't much excited about the news, doesn't matter if it's Zootopia related, I haven't followed the series since Season 2 but the little I know I bet it's just gonna be a cameo of a cute real bunny that looks like Judy. They tend to do that.. and I'd rather it stay at a funny cameo than an actual whole CGI character. However I think the cameo will be cute and I like that. You know, like the cameo Lady and the Tramp had in the show once.

I don't know how they'll do it but I have hopes it's just a cute bunny someone has named Judy Hopps, honestly, it's better than a full character. It doesn't fit any other form. Don't you agree? Any other way (a CGI character, a character who talks and has importance) wouldn't really be good.
