It really echoed what teen life was like in the 90's. Dramatic, self-evolved, juggling multiple men.
Today, we have True Blood to resonate the teen 'larger than life' statement.

Especially for Fox and their struggling X-Men series. Apocalypse leaked but it was overshadowed by Suicide Squad and Deadpool trailers leaks as well.

I think Buffy had more to do with America's obsession with high school. High school is almost defied in pop culture which is something I don't comprehend. If you peaked in high school then the rest of your life is one, long, downward slide.
Early ripe, early rot.
P.S. Reading that CA: CW has made $200 million overseas with a projected $200 million opening in the U.S. (Probably be the biggest opener of the year until the Star Wars movie in December.)

Reading actor Karl Urban has said "conversations are happening" about Dredd 2.
Of course "conversations" are a long, long way from a first day of filming, so tamp down your expectations. I agree with Urban that a Dredd sequel would work best as a series on Netflix or Amazon. The movie bombed worldwide so I doubt there's an appetite to go that route again, but streaming . . ., that could work.

Reading Supergirl's future on CBS is still up in the air. (No pun intended.) The series did OK but it's expensive - $3 million per episode - and its audience skews younger than CBS's normal demographic - read old(er). Also CBS's preferred dramatic format is the police procedural or a variant thereof.
There is talk of it going to the CW but the show is too expensive for the network's budget driven business model.
Is that the sharpening of the cancellation axe I hear in the distance?

The renewal decision comes down to dollars and cents. The CW is budget minded and it's not probably not to pay the $3 million per episode it would take to keep Supergirl's SFX looking good. That's why it went to one of the big three networks because they have deeper pockets.
So if Supergirl goes to the CW, there goes the SFX budget. And we all know how crappy bad CGI looks. It's a showstopper and that's all the audience would talk about.
What's the point of Supergirl is she doesn't look super?

The Pokmon Company has nothing to do with Nintendo, other than Nintendo publishes and distributes the games on their hardware..
Really, I'm not pulling this out of my ass, The Pokmon Company is a different company from Nintendo. TPCI handles everything related to Pokmon. Nintendo simply distributes and gets the games published on their hardware.
However you're still right in the fact that Nintendo is very stupid with Youtube. But that's Nintendo USA. Because Nintendo Europe is WONDERFUL with Youtubers, even lets them promote their content how they want, and even give them the games for them to play, and doesn't take half of your revenue like Nintendo USA.

ABC cancelled a couple of good series... The Muppets
The Muppets was cancelled!? It was by no means a terrible series but it certainly wasn't The Muppet Show and actually I think that's what's needed if The Muppets are to ever actually truly be successful on TV again (sadly, with today's music, there's no hopes of any attempt at a similar show to be anyway near as good, which is the problem) but whatever they do it will forever be compared to The Muppet Show likely dooming any series before it even starts. I don't think it helped that the series was trying to do something new that just didn't work yet the whole series was based around that one gimmick.

Lenin had a beard.

Reading that the final Wolverine film (w/ Jackman that is) might, according to Byran Singer, see the introduction of the female Wolverine X-23. Mangold, who is now directing the third Wolverine film, asked for reference art of X-23 early in the pre-production process.
That would be a good day of getting around the obstacle of casting a new male Wolverine by going with X-23. The superhero universe needs more women.
Apropos female superheroes, DC is working with Margot Robbie to create a Harley Quinn centered film which will also introduce other women heroes/villains of the DCU. And Robbie will produce the film.
About damn time. With Marvel's Captain Marvel not slated until 2019 and not Black Widow or Wasp film on the horizon, DC with Wonder Woman and Harley might claim the female superhero territory before Marvel.

My guess: probably adding some additional action beats and interactions between the team.
Come August we will see.

Gotham Has Been Better This Season Aswell.
I gave up at the Winter break with Lucius Fox taking 12 months to fix the bat computer and Penguin hobbling into the political headquarters along with his henchman, killing a bunch of people, and yet leaving witnesses.
Cop: "So, can you describe the killers?"
Witness: "Well, they wore scarves over their faces, but one of had a deformed foot and kind of waddled when he walked."
Cop: "Hmmm, I wonder who that could be?"
Plus Fish Mooney is back - was anyone really demanding her and her overacting return? - and now she's half fish?!
I might give the show a chance over the summer but it sounds like the show has jumped the Fish, I mean the shark.

Look, DC Comics has a new logo!
Their movies suck, their cartoons suck, their DTV films have sucked lately, and from what I hear their comics suck, since all they can do is constantly reboot and never adhere to anything, or at least anything worthwhile.
Looks like Shit.
Movies do suck, as do Series, Feature length animated Movies are fine.

Reading that Disney will take a financial bath on its new Alice. Looks like six years between movies is four years too long. And early tracking indicates Warcraft will also underperform. (The trailers have been underwhelming to the point of being generic.)
The good news Warcraft is opening strong in Europe and Asia so this may be a case of overseas markets coming to the rescue. (Whether is will be enough to turn a profits is another matter. The film cost $170 million not factoring in marketing and will probably have to make $400 million to break even.)
The better news is X-Men: Apocalypse looks to make $80 million in the U.S. and internationally it's already make about $130 million.
Dark Phoenix here we come.

Depp has lost his way, creatively. It's like a taste of financial success has crippled his abilities as an actor. I admired the guy who could have made a mint playing the "Johnny Handsome" roles but instead starred in films like Dead Man or Fear and Loathing. And I was genuinely happy when the first PoTC was a success. (And it was and is a good popcorn movie.)
But now those days of interesting choices, with the occasional Sweeney Todd or Rango, are gone.
But ManRay there are a lot of folks out wilds of the Internet who hate the idea of the new Ghostbusters and it started long before the release of the first trailer. (Which is a clusterfuck. The latest ones are better.) And the hate centers around the all female cast, which is sad and disturbing. Social media is filled with immature males who can't bear the thought of women in charge.

6/10 for me means the movie is fine enough. Not a masterpiece but good enough for me. I enjoyed it. And that's what matters, really. It depends if the actor wants, really. See how Daniel Craig has been offered 88 millions and yet he didn't want to do the character anymore so he rejected. I guess Depp either needed the money or didn't mind going back to a character, and he liked it. Definitely everyone comes back. It's kinda hard when you like something that almost everybody hates! And yes, it's a new director, James Bobin, which I trusted because he directed nicely the latest two Muppets movies. To me it's kinda VERY obvious that Burton has not an input in this movie other than "producing".. it seems (to me) less dark and gritty and edgy than the first movie was. To me, this movie now was more like a more normal fantasy movie featuring the characters of the original. Personally I found it entertaining, maybe even better. I just simply liked it. Whereas anyone else could hate it for their reasons and just point all the flaws they want - I just liked it. It looks different to me than the first one; but I'm not even sure if you'd like it. It's public domain. I don't think anyone's going to try do a verbatim translation to film for it.
Buying both Sin City the movie and the graphic novels are a waste of time. They're incredibly boring after you line them up, frame for frame.
Granted the film did some changes, and added some new stuff, it just sucks all the fun out of it entirely.

Fuqua went on to say they never really talked about the score. Horner’s music for the film also wasn’t completed since he was only working off of the script, but now his former team of composers is finishing up his work, which Fuqua describes as having a slightly “modern” feel.

Reading that next season of GoT, number seven, will be seven episodes in length instead of its usual ten. That holds with what the show-runners have said that the final two seasons will be shorter. Series eight, the final chapter, will probably be six or seven episodes in length.
Also reading there is one final, major plot twist coming but that won't be revealed until the very end of the series. The two of the promised three have already been revealed.

.454 Casull is an actual cartridge. Revolvers like the Super Redhawk or Raging Bull fire them. (They are most definitely BFGs.)
The 13 mm would be bigger than a .50 caliber round which the Desert Eagle chambers. But that handgun is probably the limit for the average person. A case larger than a .50, it's time to go rifle. (Anti-tank rifles use the 13 mm.) Rifles give you better control and accuracy.
The Jackal is a gun that could only exist in anime. In real life the Jackal's grip and overall construction would probably have to be twice the size depicted to handle the force generated and the expansion of gases.
Still cool as hell and that's one of the many reasons we watch good anime. Personally, it's a tie between the Jackal and Wolfwood's Cross Punisher for coolest anime weapon.

Hahaha! That's just the Internet amplifying a problem which has already been there: some humans just love to jump at the chance to be cruel to total strangers; try working in restaurant as, how do you call that role in English, a servant (?) and you'll quickly lose hope in humanity+be utterly disgusted by it.
Idiots haven't really grasped how the Internet and the megaphones (also known as social networks) work: when they Tweet, post a status update, comment… They still think they are talking solely to their circle of friends/followers, that they're entitled to say anything because it's their profile page. We live in an age in which what you "Tweet[ed]" about this morning can make it into this evening's News, if you're not careful. They haven't wrapped their goddamn heads around the fact that what they spew can be read by the actual developers and/or celebrities… There used to be something akin to a great wall between "fans" and content producers, Internet has demolished that wall. Sadly, what should be for all intents and purposes an amazing thing can very easily turn into a nightmare.
Now, mix the cruelty with the general level of anonymity which the Internet provides and you've got a recipe for disaster. In short: people have no problems being cruel to strangers.

Served twenty years.
My German university professor did the same, wound up in the Philippines. Civilian service is a good alternative since not everyone is compatible with the military way of life. No shame there and as you said it reminds one of how good many of us have it. When I hear the bitching and moaning about how bad America is, my first question is "Have you lived elsewhere?" Tragically, only 15% of Americans have ever left the country.
My first impulse is to take those whiners for a week to Afghanistan, Iraq, the southern Philippines, Central America and let them experience how most of the rest of the world lives: no education for women, no sanitation or clean running water, no paved streets and little hope of ever getting out. Where they are born is where they will spend their lives, probably never traveling further than ten miles from home.
Perspective is a good thing.
Of course, America is still a work in progress and we have a long way to still go.

America is not bad as a country. It just has a terrible society and people. And it's getting worse and worse. But hey that happens anywhere else too, honestly. It's not just America. Spain is filled with dumb idiots who do nothing for the country's shit either, and stay quiet, and a lot of assholes, too. Really, frankly, it's everywhere. But if you want to say America is nice, as a country, as in landscapes and all, heck yeah, same with Spain, but the people and society are not good at all. And don't shit on me just for saying this of America because I just said every other country is the same, really, we're all filled of shit somehow.
I find those americans who be like "America is the best country ever, I'm so proud of it, we're gonna get better" so desilusional. It's not gonna get any better. I honestly don't trust politics, not in my country where they are more fucked up, not in the US.. don't think I even trust Bernie which seemed to be the only way out. Trump, Hillary, Bernie.. just like here, anyone who wins, people are fucked anyways.
But that's me discussing the last sentence you said. I cannot deny, however, that America and Spain, although with shitty people and society, are still not poor countries, and there's people who have it worse somewhere else. Your point is fine. I get that part, and agree. And yes, people are entitled these days and don't realize how good they are in "civilized, not poor, countries."

You see how the sense of fan entitlement turns to anger. Fans and critics were lying in hate for Batman v Superman because Man of Steel didn't conform to how they thought the film should play out. Never mind they hadn't scene a frame of the film outside of the trailers. Never mind that Bryan Singer's classic take on Superman underperformed at the box office. And never mind that not all superhero films have to follow the Marvel formula. It's the people behind the cameras who make the creative decisions, not the fans.
---------- Post added at 12:56 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:18 PM ----------
America is not bad as a country. It just has a terrible society and people.
American society as a whole is not terrible, but certain aspects are. And they've always existed. There have always been the "know nothings." In the 19th century there was even a "Know Nothing" Party whose members were nativists, fearing America was being overrun by German and Irish immigrants, who were taking jobs and were following orders from the Pope. Back then Catholicism was the Islamophobia of the day.
History does like to repeat itself.
And thanks to social media and the Internet you can build your own bubble, move inside and rarely encounter any information that contradicts your worldview. The problem with that stance is reality is waiting with a large needle ready to pop that bubble.

Back in the 1940s, we (The United States) were a respectable country and superpower, for the most part. Now we are a laughing stock. There's a lot of dishonest people in our mainstream media and politics (likely in other countries, no offense). I can't imagine what a bunch of idiots we look like to people in other countries.
So, no. I am not completely proud of my country at all. Why should I be? Damn straight we have it good, when it comes to the mentioned aspects of cities, clean and running water, sanitation and such, and every country has it's beautiful and unique landscapes and terrain. I'm only proud of some certain aspects. But I agree with Killgrave. So many of us have it good, and we complain. Careful with those rose colored glasses, Clonemaster.
Back in the 1940's we weren't a superpower. We entered WWII with Armed Forces in name only. Our military was segregated. The country as a whole was, thanks to the devastation of WWI, largely isolationist, with an American Nazi party whose spokesman was Charles Lindbergh who advocated eugenics and the sterilization of the mentally challenged. There were no civil rights, women's rights, and the large portions of country viewed Catholics with the same fear and distrust as some view Muslims today. The government forcibly interned Japanese-Americans after Pearl Harbor simply because they were Japanese-Americans.
Chunks of the country had no electricity or running water or decent roads. In the South you could still buy post cards featuring the lynching of African Americans and the U.S.'s education system operated under the motto of "Separate but Equal." In hospitals surgery was the most common way to cure chronic infections. There were no antibiotics until 1942.
And I'd like to know where you get your opinion that the U.S. is a laughing stock. What's your guidepost? Have you lived overseas for years at time? Seen other countries from the inside? Thanks for this interesting read, Killgrave :) About the laughing stock part, I think clonemaster mostly refers to the presidential candidate race that looks more like a charade than anything else to foreign eyes. All our newspapers talk about is Trump. From all angles. I don't think Obama had gotten this kind of spread when it was his time. To certain people it looks as if the most hated and most ridiculed man in American history is running for President. Everyone keeps laughing at him in Late Night shows and no one wants him to be President, but yet so many people are voting for him. That is also part of the ridicule to Americans in general (I think). No one likes him when you ask them in person but yet so many people go out and vote for him. But that's what happens in a lot of countries for a lot of Presidential or governmental elections. People don't want to lose face but they do want change so they say one thing but do another.

http://www.comingsoon.net/dvd/news/693733-shout-brings-home-transformers-the-movie-30th-anniversary-edition
It's getting remastered from 35mm print.
Not sure how I feel. Shout has sucked hard lately.
Ravenous was a VHS upscale, the director's cut to Manhunter (1986) has a lot of SD upscaled scenes. You can see the jagged aliasing so much.
The nice thing about Manhunter, however, is that they included a DVD/SD version on the bluray in 480p for the director's cut.
Most of their releases lately have been closer to "workprint" qualities. :/

I think they get cheap scans and then do the bare minimum to transfer them.
They probably don't want any blame for using too much DNR on a movie.
"Providing as close to the source" as possible, meaning no filtering. Meaning no improvements or attempts.
Robot Jox wasn't so bad. It was pretty much the same as the German disc transfer.
German companies at least put some effort into cleaning up picture without destroying it.

Hey, I'm all for discussing divisive issues. And I agree sweeping issues under the carpet to avoid trouble is certainly a contributor to the issues themselves, as you say. But on an internet forum like this, I don't think it's a good idea. Put it this way:

I'm reading a rumour that I wish was true, but way too good to be true. And sounds more like a fan dream rather than something that could happen. The most fishy thing is the remaster for the GBA games.. seriously it does't make sense logical, if some of them are remakes.. all of those at once take A LOT of time to make so.. it couldn't, it really couldn't happen! The most upsetting thing is how they forget about the 2006 reboot trilogy that I liek! >:c

Most of their releases lately have been closer to "workprint" qualities. :/
The Transformers G1 sets, from S1 to S2 at least, looked fine, though definitely inconsistent occasionally. It was a series that had the masters tampered with a lot through out history. They had a written statement, which states
"Transformers DVDs released prior to our 25th Anniversary Edition were missing animation seen in the original broadcast. We did extensive research, found the discrepancies between the original broadcast masters and the restored masters used for the last DVD release, reinserted the correct animation, and color corrected it as best we could to match the shots before and after. But because a one-inch master tape simply can't hold up to the quality of the restored masters, you may notice occasional shotsor even scenesin some episodes that seem slightly softer than others. Just take comfort in knowing that laser blasts have been reinserted, backgrounds have been corrected and Starscream is Starscream once again."
So while better than the Rhino releases, that didn't stop them from being forced to use lower quality sources in certain scenes, which tells me that is a recurring staple for the company. At least with Manhunter, they do put in on the back of the box that there are rough quality inserts in the extended cut, so they're at least honest.
I'm excited for it, if only because my copy of the 20th Anniversary DVD is pretty scratched, seeing as I had it when I was younger. Seeing as they have access to the original print, it makes me interested that they have one source to deal with, as opposed to multiple, varying ones. The special features better be good though, because that DVD had quite a bit of it. They have two discs, so It'll probably be packed. Also, on the website, the aspect ratio is "various," which makes me think they're doing the fullscreen and widescreen being each different masters thing from the DVD. I also wonder what the original Blu-ray was like, since that was UK only, I believe.
I also see they're releasing Power Rangers Ninja Storm on DVD next week. I have nostalgia for that show.

I never saw him in anything other than Terminator: Salvation. If he was in Star Trek (2009), I saw him there too, though it's been since the year of release since I saw that film, so I wouldn't remember.

Fright Night (2011) remake would have been bigger and more well received if Colin Farrell wasn't attached to it.
He's not a bad luck charm, but he's definitely not the most well received charm.
Total Recall remake was good. Yelchin wasn't in it, Farrell was.
He started acting vey recently. Pretty much this past decade only.

Reading that S3 of The Flash will adapt Flashpoint. In fact, the title of the first ep of S3 is "Flashpoint."
I wonder if the Thomas Wayne Batman will appear?
Watching the first full length trailer to HBO's Westworld. Looks good and incredibly creepy. Love the quote from Romeo and Juliet.
Reading Eli Roth will direct the remake of Death Wish. Not holding out hope.

I might be super wrong, but I think it's because of the cost that Superman can only be in the first two episodes. That's why it's fine for there to be a Bruce Wayne in Gotham, but a Batman TV show would cost too much in licensing. Again, I might be wrong.
So maybe Thomas Wayne could appear (which would be badass), but not necessarily a Batman.

Damn! That's amazing! I only ever read about the cancellation of the sequel, now it's actually available as the prototype! It'll be very interesting to play some of a new Ecco game. Though, I wish it more of a situation like Star Fox 2, where it was basically completed, save for some glitches and other imperfections.
I've got to burn this to a disc so I can play it on my actual Dreamcast as soon as possible.
As an 'Ecco fan', I am very excited. :p
