Okay, the one about sunglasses, that's true.
Reading the early released reviews of Suicide Squad are not good, calling the movie a "mess" and the plot "incoherent," with certain characters like Slipknot and Captain Boomerang given nothing to do but mug for the camera.
Reading how certain fans have responded to the criticisms of Suicide Squad with their usual equanimity and grace by signing an online petition to shut down the review site "Rotten Tomatoes."
And fans wonder why so many people have a negative opinion of comic book fans.

They had to reshoot a lot.
Sometimes that's a good thing.
But it didnt sound like it when they approached it for this.
Something about adding more humor to it?
I'm still looking forward to it.
They had to work in Ben Affleck who was trying to get BvS done.
DC is should be taking more time. Nolan's TDK trilogy really put a damper on the whole universe.
MoS was a great introduction, but redoing the Bat is the clusterfuck.
But, I like how they're not focusing entirely on origin stories.
There way too many of those.
The next Batman film with Affleck will be sufferable if half of it is the origin discovering the cave and making the first suit...
That's just overdone in the super hero universe.
The killing of Robin, now that would make an excellent story for the first stand alone feature of Batman.

Couldn't agree more, great angle! Still going to see it myself too. Reshoots are very much common practice nowadays but Joe Public starts freaking out when they see that word. Same thing with Rogue One. The only thing I hope is that Jared Leto nails it so that he can make a second appearance in the Batman standalone feature.

If these early reviews are accurate then the problems with the film didn't originate with the reshoots the problems go back to the original script. So why did Warners green light a flawed script?
If it ain't on the page, it ain't on the stage.

Trust me, judging by BvS, they'll agree to any script, just as long as it conforms to their ideals to make a franchise.

The audience will be the final arbiters. Right now, analysts project Suicide Squad will open at $140 million, putting it ahead of the Deadpool opening. Question is, will that momentum build and last, as it did for Deadpool or fade after the first weekend?
Right now, the audience has a taste for the anti-hero, so maybe the audience gives the critics the middle finger salute and goes in droves. The one fairly consistent note among the reviews I've read is Robie, Smith, Hernandez who play Harley, Headshot and Diablo nail their respective characters. Leto as Joker, mixed bag there.

That'd be too much for the audience to handle, imo.
They'd treat it like Inception.
It'd make a good ending to Ben Affleck's run.
But when that happens, they'll just reboot Batman again with a new face unrelated to this run of the JL and start the stories anew.

Air Force. Never stationed in Germany, although I went there several times on TDYs. (Temporary Duty Assignments.)
As for guns:
1: Mandatory background checks for all purchases.
2: Close the gun show loopholes and straw purchases.
3: Five day waiting period when purchasing all weapons: pistols, rifles, shotguns.
4: Allow the CDC to track and graph deaths by firearms, which Congress has forbidden them to do.

Japan, South Korea, England, Iceland, Spain, Panama, with TDYs to Africa, Eastern Europe, Iraq, Afghanistan, Bosnia and Croatia.
Please explain this one to me
In 1996 the NRA lobbied and got Congress to strip the funding for the CDC's research into gun violence. The NRA was upset that the CDC found evidence to show that having a gun in the home increased the chances of someone in the home being by that gun. It's the Dickey provision, named after a Georgia Congressman, who BTW, now regrets passing that bill into researching gun violence.

Some of the interesting take-aways:
Warner locked down the film's release before having a completed script.
Ayer, the writer and director, had six weeks to write it.
The film will need to gross $750 - 800 million to be successful.

For my DCMA's, I didn't get any information on who submitted the DMCA.
But they were for the end credits rips from blurays that had Dolby Atmos audio.
Obfusticating names and going through extra protection can only help to a limit.
You can make a precise chart of how secure things can be.
The ultimate thing at the bottom of the chart from starting point to the end?
The fact that there's a thread posted. That's all you need. And you're done.
Even if you go through the lengths to deal with PM's, how are you going to distinguish a lurker from a content owner pretending to be a lurker?
You can't. You just have to give the link out. That's all you need. And you're done.
But, even so!
Who's to say that someone else hasn't reported such activity to a content owner just to cut the throat of competing pirates?
You can't ever know unless you ask the content owners and hope they don't see it as a defiance and cut your balls off.
Risk DMCA of the entire site over a petty vendetta? Risk a lawsuit?
And you're done.
You. Are. Done.

I just learned one of my favorite cartoonists died last week. Richard Thompson died July 27, 2016, after a long battle with Parkinson's.
He is most well-known for 'Make the Pie Higher', his great caricatures, and his wonderful comic strip Cul-de-Sac.
I had the opportunity to meet the man seven years ago when he gave a brief talk about being a cartoonist, where he gets his ideas, etc. He shook my hand, kindly autographed a copy of one of his books for me, and was very enthusiastic when he learned that I enjoy drawing comic strips as well. He was a very nice man and a very talented artist. His fellow cartoonists adored him - even Bill Watterson, the reclusive cartoonist behind Calvin & Hobbes who thought the best days of the funnies were long-gone until he read Richard's work. Despite his affliction he never lacked energy and never lacked a fierce will to make people laugh and enjoy life.
His work made the world a much funnier place, and he certainly left a huge impression on me. He will be missed.

So, how was the novel and the movie?
Reading about the "new and improved" Poison Ivy on Gotham.
Here's how Ivy used to look:
Here's Version 2.0:
And here's the part that is truly creepy and it comes from Gotham's executive producer John Stephens:
“The mentality of the Ivy we have in our world is not the same as the Ivy who exists in the canon. She's a bit more of a loose cannon. And so she goes and creates a great deal of havoc in our world. And because she is still a 14-year-old, 15-year-old street teenager in the body of a 25-year-old woman, she doesn't know how to act in the world yet, and so she has to fumble her way about.”
So Ivy is now a bombshell with the mind of a 15 year old girl? Sounds like every pervert's personal fantasy.
I'm glad I'm done with this show.

The whole approach the producers of Gotham have taken has become unwieldy. Most of Bat's villains, according by the show, are ten to fifteen years older than Bruce which is not the case in the comics. Plus the show has so much padding stuffed into it to reach a 24 episode order the seams are showing.
Dump all this prequel nonsense because it is not working. Go straight to Batman: Year One and adopt the Nolan approach of escalation: the super villains appear because of Batman's arrival. Crime fights a freak with freaks of its own.

Nothing new. It was widely predicted.
Here goes something I say about reading DC comics. It's an interesting parragraph but since some people here hate me doing stuff like this, large paragraphs of stuff it, I've decided to spoil it so they can just ignore it and leave me alone.
I am not currently reading them, but I just wanted to let ya know anyway, I'm in a cinema/TV/DVD/Bluray forum in Spain, there were constant discussions about DC and Marvel and comics of Batman and Superman and how they should be, etc.. so I decided to grab the two compilation albums that came with a newspaper, ages ago when I was a kid, that I read, but didn't know much cuz of the age. Decided to read them with my current mindset.. to see what's up with Batman and Superman's comics.
I read the first ever issue of Batman among the first Joker comic.. one about Batman, Robin and Alfred fighting a group of pirates or whatever.. were fine, but very old style. They're entertaining to read I guess but I'm not a big fan of the cheesy corny style of the time. I also read the first appearence of Batgirl, and at last, one I liked, Shadows of the Past. There were two more cool looking recent comics of Batman, like Scottish Connection, but I decided to move on to Superman.
Superman... well, that I skipped over the begining, just simply gave a sneak peak - and kinda passed over to that one comic presented in the compilation album that I have, that reminded me and made me want to read the comics.. this morning I read a synopsis of one episode of Supergirl where she gets infected by some kind of weird tentacle thingy that gives her a dream where she is in a saved Krypton.. and that reminded me of the comic that is present on this album that I'm talking about, which name I do not remember, but the same thing happens to Superman. I read it, and I quite enjoyed it - it was pretty sentimental - but the next comic I read, was way more epic and I loved reading it more - and that is the one that features the death of Superman, where Loise Lane talks over that to an interviewer.. it was pretty good.
You see - this was kinda to me like, a taste to superhero comics (or nerd comics) after such a while - probably for the first time ever with adult or better understanding eyes. When I was kid, I did read comics, but not much of superheroes, I wasn't interested at all in the stories, maybe I thought they were boring to my kid self. But aside from that, barely a super hero comic, but lots of spanish known comedy comics I read a lot. So this is, with a bit of obvious dramatization - kind of a first taste of sneak peek to superhero or nerd comics. It's something maybe one day I'd like to get to - because I feel like there's a lot of GREAT comics and graphic novels that feature marvelous stories that I'd love to read and feel with them - but the problem is, there's a loads of characters and comics to know and read. Guess when I ever get into reading comics, I'll get to those that have the biggest stories and I'm most interested on.

If anybody hasn't noticed yet, or read my rant in the "how are you feeling" thread, I've been making longer paragraphs and/or posts more often of recent, just something I'm working on. At the same time, trying not to be superfluous with it. I don't think it matters, to be honest. I don't mind. :p

Reading the episodes that will unite the CW-verse with Supergirl will be a musical featuring contemporary music with some original tunes.
Reading those episodes will air in February and be the conclusion of the Flashpoint story arc. Maybe.
Reading one report that the villain will be the Music Meister. (Which would make perfect sense.) Neil Patrick Harris voiced MM in one the best Brave And Bold episodes. And many of the cast have theatre experience, so . . .
Reading Joss Whedon's name being knocked about as the director of those musical eps. (Of course, that might well be superheated fan wish fulfillment, so don't get too excited.)

Well fuck me sideways. Those of you who know me well know that any time LotR or The Hobbit Blu-rays were brought up, I said I was done purchasing them until what I've dubbed "The Middle Earth Collection" was released. I only have the theatrical LotR trilogy and AUJ (which I actually gave to hack3rman last summer). It's pointless buying the theatrical editions, then the extended editions, and then waiting for 3D. I said I was done buying them until all 6 films were going to be released in one package. Well, here it is:
The Middle Earth Collection Ultimate Collector's Edition Blu-ray (

All 6 films. Extended editions. All special features. Except....The Hobbit Trilogy is not in 3D. And it's $800. I'll wait another 10 years. I totally called it though that they'd release a "Middle Earth Collection" and title it that. *pats self on back*

Even though I don't have an Atmos receiver, movies remixed for Atmos get better stanard 7.1 mixes, even if you downmix to 5.1.

A comment here (
http://www.theonering.net/torwp/2016/08/17/101555-middle-earth-limited-collectors-edition-blu-ray-box-set-coming/) from a dude: "I've heard from an industry insider that Peter Jackson and company proposed an elaborate series of new documentaries for this release, and Warner Home Video passed because they didn't want to pay for it. So, while this is a really nice set and could be worth it for, say, $200-$250, it is nothing more than a double-dip for those discs most of us have already had, in some cases for 14 years. If the extra swag is worth it to you, by all means, pick it up. But I have trouble spending this kind of money to reward Warner for cheaping out on features diehard fans like me have been waiting for for over a decade -- LOTR deleted scenes, bloopers, retrospective documentaries, etc."
Yeah, this is kinda annoying, Warner seriously just reissues the same discs almost everyone has, nothing new totally, and want to shell people $800 out of it, specially when we KNOW that they'll release some new edition in a year, two, whenever, with more shit added? Dude, that's just wrong.

Damn.
Shout!Factory should buy the rights to redistribute.
They love re-releasing movies with extra features.
The video and audio will be the same, sometimes a different print (TV, work print, etc) will be avaialble as well.
But in most cases, they just use the same transfer but add extra special features.
And give a new cover.
S!F would be able to provide the special features fans would definitely pay for.

It's just real damn wrong for Warner to just re-release the same damn thing, just in a expensive-to-make bookshelf and shell out $800 for it
The HP set was more complete and definitive, and was priced way less than that, and had at least a BONUS disc..
Specially when we all know Warner is gonna do something next year or whenever with TLOS, re-release it again, 4K, new bonus features, or simply a new better transfer.

Reading this wonderful article (
http://www.thedigitalbits.com/columns/my-two-cents/081816_1445) that pretty much resumes all that we feel about Warner and its new TLOR "Ultimate" set.. I'll quote the most wonderful amazing part.. which is sad:
But you might be asking: “But this release isn’t targeted at the diehard fans! It’s meant for people who haven’t purchased any of the films on disc yet!” First of all, are you nuts? Second of all, who would those people be exactly that are in the market for an $800 Blu-ray set but aren’t diehard fans?
Now sure… I’ll allow that there’s a chance that Elon Musk hasn’t picked up a copy of these films on Blu-ray yet, because he’s been a little busy building rockets to go to Mars and all. But I have to believe that Elon Musk would be smarter than to pay $800 for these discs, a book, and a shelf. Because A: Rockets and Mars and all. And because B: You can buy all these discs (plus better books and more) for much cheaper individually!
This is true: I did a little window-shopping research and ran the numbers last night. For $799.99, I could – right now on Amazon – buy...
The Lord of the Rings Trilogy – Theatrical Edition BD set ($21.75)
The Lord of the Rings Trilogy – Extended Edition BD set ($48.99)
The Hobbit Trilogy – Theatrical Edition Blu-ray 3D Combo set ($97.89)
The Hobbit Trilogy – Extended Edition Blu-ray 3D Combo set ($106.98)
(And if you add up all those movie and extras discs, that comes to 48 discs of content – which is truly complete – as opposed to this set’s 30.) Plus...
The Lord of the Rings Trilogy 3-CD Soundtrack Collection ($30)
The Hobbit Special Edition soundtrack CDs ($20 each x 3 films = $60)
The “Art of The Lord of the Rings” hardcover books for each film ($44 each x 3 = $132)
The “Art & Design of The Hobbit” hardcover books for each film ($30 each x 3 = $90)
If you’re following along at home (or the office) that comes to a subtotal of $587.61.
That leaves me with $212.38...
... which is almost enough to buy a hand-crafted prop replica of The Hat of Gandalf The freaking Grey from the WETA Workshop too (for $219 – see this link, and yes that’s it pictured up above there on the left side of the page. It’s kind of badass).
And I’ll build my own damn shelf to hold it all.
Basically you can ACTUALLY GET your OWN Ultimate edition, getting the most complete possible, and add even MORE and BETTER than Warner, and it'll be damn HALF the price. Around 590 dollars, that's much but still for all the content is a much more reasonable price!

Which answers the question social sites keep asking:

No.

And throw Loki in it. No reason. Just because he's a guaranteed ticket sale.

Reading Frank Darabont pitched to NBC The Walking Dead as a series before landing it on AMC. And here's what NBC execs asked and the question also answers why Hollywood screws the pooch on so many properties:
“Do there have to be zombies [in it]?”
"NBC then asked Darabont if the series could be a cop procedural that happens to have zombies in it, where two main protagonists would, according to Gale Ann Hurd, the show's executive producer “solve a zombie crime of the week.”
As William Goldman noted so long ago, in Hollywood, no one knows anything.

Reading that apparently the villain for the The Flash/Supergirl musical episode will be Music Meister. (He was, if memory serves, an original character created specifically for the musical episode of the animated Brave and The Bold series on Cartoon Network and was voiced by Neil Patrick Harris. Hopefully the producers will get NPH for those episodes.) Berlanti is working on getting clearance to use popular music but there will be also original tunes as well.
Considering the number of folks in the casts who have musical and stage experience it could be a really novel episode.

(I remember a colleague's rather lengthy theory on Scooby Doo which included how the characters represented certain academic institutions, e.g. Fred was Harvard or Yale, Shaggy was Berkley, etc., their sexual preferences, why Scooby could talk, who funded their adventures and so on.)
It was one of those conversations where after five minutes you start looking for the exit and after ten if the speaker is off his meds.

Currently reading a bunch of people on Amazon complain about Transformers: The Movie (
https://www.shoutfactory.com/film/action-adventure/the-transformers-the-movie-30th-anniversary-edition) not relying on UltraViolet/iTunes, and instead some other service (VHX), which downloads the film instead of streaming it on a cloud. This would be understandable.....if it weren't for digital shops being a thing (both VUDU and iTunes carry the film). Why must one buy a physical product, yet only use it for some digital copy that you can buy on it's own? I guess they're too used to it.
This is rather funny to me, as back when UltraViolet was introduced, people opposed it for the opposite reasons:
2011: "Oh, what's this? A service where I have to have an app to watch the film instead of just downloading a file? No thank you!"
2016: "Huh? I have to actually download the film? Instead of streaming it? Eww."
Boy, how times have significantly changed.

Reading, and until Warner Brothers issues an official press release take the following "news" with a huge frigging grain of salt, that George Miller is prepping to shoot the next Mad Max at year's end. The title: Mad Max: The Wasteland. And unlike Fury Road the film will be shot in Australia which apparently looks again like, well, a wasteland.
The news comes from Australia's Herald Sun newspaper but color me a skeptic. Miller said he has two more Mad Max stories to tell and Wasteland would cover Furiosa's backstory. But first he wanted to make a smaller film before returning to the madness of Max. Also reports have stated both Hardy and Theron are returning but if Wasteland is a prequel - a first for Miller - what role would Max play since they first met in Fury Road?
I can see the fan theories already - Furiosa is the little girl Max keeps seeing and hearing in his PTSD induced hallucinations.

Reading Issue Two, Series Two of Lady Killer. Josie continues to build her business as an independent contractor but gets a couple of interesting "offers" of help along the way. Great art and good story.
Afterlife with Archie. If you'd told me a year ago that one of my favorites titles would be a comic with a title that sounds like an SNL skit, I would probably called you nuts. But this is one of the best pieces of horror literature out there. It starts out as Night of the Living Dead crossed with Archie but quickly expands to bring in elements of The Shining, Carrie, The Walking Dead, The Witch, The Vampire Lestat the Cthulhu mythos and Sabrina, the Teenage Witch. (Sabrina and Jughead accidentally initiate the zombie apocalypse and one issue brings in horror writers Machen and Lovecraft as characters.) This is isn't a parody or a satire, for there's no laughs here. (Well, some, but the humor's really pitch black, my favorite kind.)
And thanks to the writing of Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa this comic brings you the iconic characters, but how they'd be in the real world. (Wait until you see what he does to Josie and the Pussycats.) And the art of Francesco Francavilla is perfect. It's one of the best TV horror shows you've ever read.
The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. Another winner for Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, a spin-off of AWA and done in the same vein. (Blood red and you're welcome.) Again, no holds barred as the comic chronicles Sabrina's struggle to have a normal life while becoming a full fledged witch. All the familiar characters are present but as twisted and distorted fun house mirror reflections of the original versions. There's murder, patricide, matricide, and the strong possibility of incest in the next few issues. This is most definitely not the Melissa Joan Hart TV series, more American Horror Story.

I am highly 50/50 about this.. now, I liked THE JUNGLE BOOK by him, it was very nice, updated the story and made it better, but.. the lion king is.. untouchable.. can you imagine the lion king in super highly realistic CGI live action? it might look too weird.. besides, the lion king has no humans, I guess they'd shoot real life backgrounds to justify the "live action".. I only have a snipped of faith in this project because Favreau's Jungle Book was fantastic, in both story and gorgeous almost photorealistic animation. The Broadway musical story got much more story, amplified it. We might get the story of the musical, maybe a bit more? I have a bit of trust in Jon Favreau, he a cool guy and I liked how he made TJB.

I used to defend the game, the creator and the developer.. until now, that months have passed by and Sony has washed its hands on the subject (they are partially at fault; for hyping the game unrealistically and hurrying the developer up, and MOST IMPORTANTLY selling a INDIE game for the price of a full fledged game; probly if the game was worth 20 dollars like it really is worth. like any other indie game, people would have shat less on it.) but, Sean and Hello Games also have washed its hands too and said NOTHING ever since it came out. I sincerely believe the developer never intended to complete the game.
I think he just got lazy since he already got a paycheck for it.
It's like all the publicity for George RR Martin.
He only does publicity just to keep fans riled up and keep them from asking when his next book will be done.
He's been writing those books since the 80's. If he hasn't finished the story by now, he never will.
He had a good idea and should have ended it a long time ago.
He's not a long-term writer.
HBO jumped the gun running for Game of Thrones.
They're going to have to ghostwrite for him to finish off the series.
The tv series will probably finish before the books finish.
The show is already got a lot of differences. you can't go 1 sentence without someone spoiling details ands saying what's different.
They're two entities already.
But that's the gyst of how commercial the industries are today.
Martin can run his own pace for the books, since that's expected of writers.
Some have the talent to write thousands a year like Stephen King, and some just don't have the stamina to write that much. Just a few great ideas.
Gaming industry is too easy snag customers.
It's not captalism. It's commercialism. Only one side profits.

RE: No Man's Sky The majority of people anticipating the release of No Man's Sky probably didn't stop to think logically for one minute of how the game would actually be, they just off and let their imaginations set the limit, and we all know how far our imaginations can take us; to unrealistic hopes and expectations, and, to be fair, I don't entirely blame them. All of those trailers and videos showing off the No Man's Sky's features and concept (it's a strong concept) definitely set the bar to some height, and with the game having Sony's "full backing", they hyped it (so did Hello Games), they pressed for release, and after so many delays, they may have forced it.
I don't know how much communication there was between Sony and Hello Games, but clearly, it wasn't adequate. I don't believe Sean Murray and the 15 employees of Hello Games were given enough time to develop the game and thoroughly perfect it, and I suppose even the delays weren't enough, as clearly shown by the initial poor optimization and performance upon the game's release, and the lack of content spoken of by Murray and showed off by the many videos and trailers. After all, they are a small indie developer, and were expected of work equivalent to that of a God's.
I believe they were rushed, I believe they were pressured. An indie developer taking on such a (literally) massive project, of epic and awesome proportions? Their promotional plan for the game didn’t serve them well because of the incredible, unsustainable amount of hype that it built up. They didn't know how to properly market it, They didn't have a great PR strategy, at that, there was no PR person helping. Looks as if they were pushed into something they didn't exactly know how to handle, too fast.
It's as if I send in a test without all of the answers filled in, and expect it to be okay'd and graded.
The absence of promised content was due to not enough time granted, they were pushed back into a corner, and were forced to release it as-is, which was lacking of performance, content, etc, and was presented to the public. I don't know if the game's precedent content justifies the averaged $60 price, maybe if released in a polished, perfectly optimized, consistent of all promised content state, perhaps then it's justified, but I suppose not the way it was released.
Now, I want to note Hello Games’ promises of expanding No Man’s Sky with new features, and hopefully fulfilled content. I respect their audacity to correct their mistakes, and deliver upon the hyped product. But all of this shows that it should've been an early access game for a while. That would've been a safer route, but you know Sony.
TL;DR People expected too much, it was hyped too much, fault owing to both Sony and Hello Games, and many didn't realistically give much thought to the experience the game will actually bring. Because, even if released in it's ideal state, with all promised content and features intact, I GUARANTEE you that a lot of people would still shit on and criticize it. I suppose the idea of having to mine and grind for resources to be able to fuel your ship, recharge your items, build a hyperdrive, or how long it can take to reach a planet or space station, the sheer loneliness which one can feel in-game, after a certain amount of gameplay, may not be appealing to many, or bother some. None of this bothers me, nor the loneliness. It never bothered me in-game, and it doesn't tend to bother me in real life. I enjoy it, despite the broken promises; to be honest, I didn't even notice them until they were pointed out to me through various articles.
I love No Man's Sky, actually, it lived up to my expectations. I stopped and thought (in a realistic way, of course) of the nearly incomprehensible excitement and wonder I'll feel when landing on and walking around a beautiful alien planet completely unknown to me, when travelling in space, whatever strange flora and fauna await me in the next planet over, etc; The entire vastness of it all still astounds me.
This is all personally-based. The game is a unique experience to an individual, it isn't for everyone, but it resonates and appeals to me because I love exploration, and the idea of a completely full-scale universe, and the fact I can explore and traverse it (I'm gonna need that platonium!), yada, yada, yada, the only thing that disappointed me was the poor optimization and performance of the game, otherwise I was content.
Edit: Woo, there's a load off my mind.

I don't know if it was HBO, but a few years ago they started airing old Buffy the Vampire Slayer episodes in 16:9, using real 16:9 masters. That doesn't sound bad until you realize the show was always MEANT to be in 4:3, and the extra information on the sides was literally filled with cameramen and lighting equipment. Thing is, this is Fragle Rock we're talking about, a show that was done in 1983, intended for television in full screen; a widescreen conversion of this wouldn't at all be okay, and would result in heads cut. Joss Whedon was against the 16:9 reformatting. Whedon is a fan of widescreen but as you wrote the show was meant, designed and lit for the 4:3 format. But since he didn't own Buffy he was voted down. (Angel, if memory serves, was shot for 16:9.
The problem you have now is an inverse of the old pan and scan format. As a videographer and movie fan I spent a lot of fruitless time trying to explain to people that with widescreen not only were you seeing the film as the director intended, you were also getting more picture. Fruitless and pointless because most people fell back on the "but pan and scan fills the screen" & "why are there black bars at the bottom and top of the screen?" screeds. So I gave up.
It's the popularity of 16:9 flat-screens that solved the pan and scan issue. But now consumers complain why the old shows aren't in widescreen.
Makes you wonder when people give up trying to learn something new.

If people are going to spend their entire lives staring at a box you'd think they'd bother to understand why the images on the box are the way they are.
But nope... if the picture isn't bigger than it already is then it's not good enough for them.

would result in heads cut
Or it could have been shot in 16:9 but cropped to 4:3 for intended viewing.
F.R.I.E.N.D.S. did that.
The blruays are the widescreen formats where you can see tape markers on the floors in the new parts of the screen and extras just standing still until they are in view of the camera.
No heads cut off. But just extra useless data on the sides.
The only show I'm aware of that did it wrong was Third Rock From The Sun where they zoomed in to make it 16:9.
On Netflix it was fun to watch again, but quite often heads would be cut off.
I believe some DVD sets were printed like that, too.
I don't think they'd remaster it if meants heads would get cut off.
If we're lucky, it was safely shot in 16:9 where tape markers and extra filming processes were hidden from the shot.
Same thing they do with movies.
For movies intended to be 2.40:1, they'll shoot in 1.78:1 or bigger and then crop it down to hide the tape markers and booms hanging over the actors heads.
There's one open matte version for The Mechanic with Jason Statham.
The open matte version has booms in it and tape markers all over the floors.
Director didn't safely shoot the movie. He really intended it to be 2.40:1.
American Psycho and Jumper, on the other hand, were safely shot in 1.78:1.
Their open matte versions are clean.
A few other movies are also clean for their open matte versions.
Likewise, quite a few older movies available in open have booms hanging in the top of the newly exposed screen.

If it's still on Netflix, they should be the widescreen versions.
I remember downloading season 1 and noticing a lot.
Can't find any sites illustrating exactly what's behind-the-scenes production.
Forums are dead ends. They're all like this forum. Good luck trying to find anything. Even if someone made a dedicated topic, most OP's don't update the first post with the most relevant information and you're just meant to read the entire damn forum.

Fantastic Beasts confirmed to get 100 movies.
It'll be neat to get more magic and wizard battles.
With Tolkien franchises finished, fat chance of getting Silmarillion turned into a franchise, we need something like this.

The Tolkien Estate was not happy with Jackson's take on both LoTR & The Hobbit which makes licensing that book out problematic. And The Silmarillion lacks the popularity of the aforementioned books so there's not a lot of incentive to turn it into a film.
Besides most of the audience would probably think the film is ripping off GoT.

There are basement-dwelling Tolkien addicts who can't wait for Christopher Tolkien to die. Then it'll be easier for WB to acquire The Silmarillion.
I personally hope ol' Chris figures out a way to keep WB's fingers away from the book for as long as possible.

WB would take massive, massive liberties in adapting the material, believe me. Maybe throw in some Elvish cheerleaders or something like they tried to do for Harry Potter.

Why does the Tolkien State hates The Lord of the Rings by Peter Jackson so much? I understand wanting accuracy from the books line to line but I fairly don't think ANYONE else would be able to pass TLOR cinematographically.. either as good, or how they want it.. I mean I don't see how it can do well cinematographilly
TheSkeletonMan939

Maybe that's part of why the Tolkiens hate WB so.
WB is interested in the lucrativeness of the novels, not the skill of the writing or its artistic merits (which is what the Tolkiens care about).

Tolkien wrote his books as a means of putting his made-up languages to use.
Now people connect LotR with "that cool battle scene".

For some folks, unless the film slavishly follows the book, they'll never be happy. And things that work in books, don't translate well onto the screen.

I mean.. the Tolkien writings are very hard to take on the screen, and do it really really well, and Peter Jackson, at least in the first trilogy, managed to do it decently, at least.
I don't think ANYONE else could adapt and be perfect

i never understood his appeal.
In the RTS games from Electronic Arts, they included him as a hero you can summon.
He does decent damage and is great for cannon fodder.
Toss him down on a tower and everyone goes after him.
Then drop Gandalf and others on the other side to clean the place while Bombadil dies.
He also does decently if you're in a bind against trolls and other medium tanking emenies or even horses with his knockback.

Reading that Tim Miller, director of Deadpool, will not return to direct Deadpool 2, or Deaderpool or Deadpool Strikes Back or whatever the hell it will be called. Apparently, Miller wanted the second film to be more formal and normal and Reynolds wanted to the film to be less formal and abnormal, like the first. Also, Miller and Reynolds disagreed on who should play Cable.

Reading the early reviews of Dr. Strange.
Pros: Cumberbatch, Swinton, Mads, etc; nail their characters. The action sequences are also getting high praise as is the score plus the visuals - "trippy" - harken back to the Ditko art of the 1960s.
Cons: A weakly written villain, a long standing MCU problem, and it's another origin story.
A number of reviews are comparing Dr. Strange to the first Iron Man.

Oh Ponyo and Rumple, as predictable as ever. I missed you guys. On a sidenote, oh wow this was ages ago - in my defence I have been travelling a lot, and been awfully busy for work and so I apologise for not explaining further or with a more pressing need to do so. I do want to keep my identity a secret though, however, I will say that I was known for ruffling up the occasional feather with non-strictly pc talk though I was never really looked down upon as a fiend and was occasionally celebrated for the rare contributions I brought to the forum (which I realize never quite aligned with the great work others here have conducted and keep conducting... but it's the intention that counts right?)
No need to prematurely hate me Ponyo. We shared a few laughs and a few opinions. I just wish to reintroduce myself to the group afresh, hoping I won't stray too far in the wrong path. Hoping you will be so cordially accepting, I thank you in advance
