Name 3 early weapons that you should buy plenty before Terra, because they are used for synthesis of useful equipment on CD4, but are no longer available at shops at that time.

7alentine
11-04-2011, 02:07 AM
Mage Masher is one of them I think, theres another one that Hades uses to synth something but I can't remember...

The two other are weapons for Steiner and Garnet.

Steiner's Mythril Sword? maybe? I don't know, it's just a shot in the dark and I have no idea what it would synth into.

Szczepan
11-08-2011, 06:43 PM
Mythril Sword indeed:) Good shot. Your turn feralanima.

btw The 3rd weapon was Air Racket.

feralanima
11-09-2011, 01:05 AM
Wow, you're joking right?! The only reason I know of the javelin is because I sold it before disc 4 and couldn't find one anywhere after I got to the master synth. Needless to say I was rather frustrated!

In the FMV of the assault of the silver dragons name four people that come to your aid (they can all be on the same airship as long as it's not the Invincible).

Enkidoh
11-09-2011, 01:18 AM
Well, there was Regent Cid with Baku and the Tantalus troupe on the Hilda Garde III, plus Beatrix with the Knights of Pluto on the Red Rose. Apart from that, I don't think there was anyone else shown there if I remember rightly.

aces4839
11-09-2011, 04:11 AM
there was also that female lookalike of Zidane who was on the Red Rose. forgot her name, though. She was in Terra and showed Zidane around Bran-Bal.

JohnnyMercyside

Mikoto is the last one :)

feralanima
11-09-2011, 09:20 PM
The only people they show on the Red Rose are Beatrix and two Pluto Knights. Cid and the Tantalus group are on the Hilda Garde III. I don't recall seeing Mikoto at all in there, if she is, she would be on the Hilda Garde III.

Either way, Enkidoh got it, your go!

Enkidoh
11-10-2011, 04:19 AM
Oh yes, that's right. I remember now - she's on board the Red Rose and speaks to the Hilda Garde III via some sort of radio device. But that's after the airship battle - she doesn't appear during any of the battle's scenes.

Anyway... :D

Anyway, answering Aces' question, a Black Magic spell I know Ozma uses is Doomsday. Hence why he's so hard to fight if you haven't finished the Friendly Monsters quest, as each time he uses it it effectively heals him completely, due to his default Shadow absorption. ;)

JohnnyMercyside

Next question is perhaps a little tricky. How many regents did Lindblum had in it's history?

Enkidoh
01-20-2012, 02:55 AM
As far as I'm aware, the only Regents to rule Lindblum have all had the name Cid, which including the current one there have been nine so far (there's a statue of the very first one on horseback at the airship dock in Lindblum Castle - which is odd, as you'd think chances are that he would have ridden a chocobo more than a horse ;)).

But other than that, I have no idea.

Szczepan
01-20-2012, 12:59 PM
That is why I wrote it might be a little tricky;) There has indeed been 9 Cids (Cid we know from game being 9th), but game gives hint that not all regents were called Cid:) (this is not said straight though)

One from Hades in Memoria. i think the other is the auction in Treno.

feralanima
02-03-2012, 02:13 AM
You can synthesize two Pumice Pieces to make a whole Pumice with Hades, and you need a Pumice and a Hammer in order to synthesize a Pumice Piece. But in order to even make the Pumice in the first place you have to find a second Pumice Piece...and neither of them are in Treno :)

i know it absorbs Holy & Shadow elemental attacks. forgot what it teaches, though.

Enkidoh
02-04-2012, 05:17 AM
It teaches Garnet and Eiko the 'Boost' ability, which ensures their Eidolons will feature the full summon animation every time they're summoned as long as the ability is equipped, rather than the shortened animation (and hence, cause greater damage). It's loosely the same as the ability's namesake in FFVIII - it boosts a summon's power.

I remember there was a statue of the first female general of Alexandria in town by the gate that leads to the world map. maybe thats why.

Enkidoh
02-11-2012, 05:02 PM
Not quite - I'll give a hint as it's rather obscure: the reason is mentioned by NPCs in Alexandria's town, and the reason is indicative of Alexandrian society in general, not just the military.

But it also explains why Alexandria has an almost entirely female army. Find it and you'll have the answer. ;)

aces4839
02-11-2012, 05:57 PM
hmm...i have searched in every area of Alexandria on my saved file on Disk 4, and even started a new game and did the same, but have found absolutely nothing. u sure it's in Alexandria?

Szczepan
02-11-2012, 06:29 PM
I don't remember who said it exactly, but something about Alexandrian men being irresponsible and cannot be depended upon? By comparing Steiner's Pluto Knights to Beatrix brigade? Not sure if the latter part was said by the same person though.

Enkidoh
02-12-2012, 06:32 AM
Szczepan got it basically right - it's stated that Alexandrian men are 'unreliable', but your meaning was correct. As for who said it, I'm pretty sure it was an old woman in one of the houses in Alexandria who mentions it (before the Invincible levels the place). But yeah, it also explains why Steiner and his Knights, while well-intentioned, aren't exactly the brightest bulbs on the chandelier. ;)

Anyway, your go Szczepan. :D

02-12-2012, 12:37 PM

Red Mages. They don't have any important role in FFIX but still you meet them a couple times in different places. I'm aware of 3 Red Mages you can meet as NPC (and one seen only in ATE). Give at least 2 examples where and when (for the one from ATE) you can see them:)

Johnny ninjaed me :(

Szczepan
02-12-2012, 07:43 PM
Correct! The ones I was asking:
RM seen in ATE in Lindblum on CD1 (actually it's a Female RM who makes fun of rust on Steiner's armor thinking he is hitting on her), RM in Treno - one of the people who buys the auction artefacts from us and two red mages in Alexandria Pub before CD3 (there's two of them but i counted them as one since they are together).

Johhny was a bit faster so gets the next question:)

aces4839
02-12-2012, 08:00 PM
there was another for the Red Mage question. a male can be found at the pub in Alexandria at the beginning of the game while you control Vivi talkin about how he bought a ticket and should be happy...but it was a fake and a female is at the Inn, complainin that there isnt a reservation at the inn.

Szczepan
02-12-2012, 08:44 PM

Before disc 4 AND Terra, other than the Grand Dragon, what is the next best level grinding/AP spot and name the enemy or enemies u can get that much from.

JohnnyMercyside
02-24-2012, 09:21 AM
I don't know if it's the best, but the Epitaphs in Oeilvert give a lot of EXP if you kill all the mirages of your characters and then him at the end.

Enkidoh
02-24-2012, 02:43 PM
Not to mention Epitaphs can also be killed instantly even before they create the doppelgangers by simply using the Gold Needle/Stona trick - use a spell or item that cures Petrification and it destroys the enemy instantly, with the message 'Too soft to live'. I can't remember if you get any items, EXP or AP after the battle by this method though.

I don't think you get the huge sum of EXP if you kill the Epitaph before it creates the mirages.

EDIT: Just did some research on the Epitaph.

You get 0 EXP if you defeat it before it creates the mirages. Then it creates upto three mirages, which all give you 9913 EXP each. So if you let it create three mirages, you get a total EXP of 29729. As I said I don't know if it's the most before Disc 4, but it's up there.

9 is the official age given in the manual and official game propaganda, but I'm sure I remember seeing it mentioned somewhere in game that he's actually much younger than that - like, 6 years old or something.

Which is his real age however is probably left to the player to decide, given the fact Vivi was the prototype Black Mage (and who's life span, despite being longer than a regular Black Mage's, was unknown).

Kratos for the answer I was looking for, although it has been debated a lot. The most accepted answer is appearance of a 9 year old boy, but as a Black Mage he's 6 months old. Quan also says that Vivi is 6 months old when he's thinking of "eating" him.

I seem to recall if you manage to get a perfect (100%) audience satisfaction rating for the sword duel between Zidane and Blank during the play at the beginning of the game you get a bonus Moonstone too, but I can't remember exactly if that's true or not (it's been so long ago I played through that section) - the stupid Brady guide naturally doesn't say anything either other than pointing to the defunct POL guide.

03-03-2012, 08:06 AM
Right place, but the circumstances aren't correct (as far as I know, Brahne never gives you one - great if she does though ;)). But you have the location right, plus it does indeed involve Steiner while you're controlling him there.

Anyone else?

Hmm, I never knew that myself - although it's not actually the answer I was looking for, but, in hindsight, is actually correct anyway as it turns out it precedes the one I was thinking of, so I may as well give the next question to you then Aces. Good job. :)

(If you're wondering the answer I was looking for was during the play in Alexandria Castle when Steiner is ordered to locate Princess Garnet and has to track down all the Knights of Pluto to pass the order onto them, he is given an Elixir by the final Knight, Breireicht, who is found climbing one of the towers of the castle, but only if Steiner has already spoken to all the other knights.)

Yeah, I guess I asked for too many :/ Ok, Enkidoh can have it for naming at least few.

btw examples where it can be found :

Door to Oeilvert, a case where Gulug Stone was kept, door to Mount Gulug, a place in Alexandria Castle where Garnet was drained of Eidolons, on Valia Pira, the levitating lift in Iifa Tree that only resonates to Zidane and floor of the mirror room in Ipsen's Castle.

Name three instances of a rose motif occurring in Alexandria (this can be a literal rose, an image of one, or even just a passing reference - as long as it refers to something about Alexandria and it's government).

JohnnyMercyside
03-10-2012, 12:35 PM
Well you have the Red Rose ship obviously.

Beatrix's song is called Rose of May... that's played in Lindblum Disc 3 predominantly but I'm sure it might be played when Beatrix comes to her sense in the castle after your final battle against her on Disc 2...

Another guess would be that you might see roses in the FMV at the end of Disc 2 with Garnet in Alexandria, but that's a complete guess.

Enkidoh
03-12-2012, 11:22 AM
The name of the Red Rose airship is indeed one. That one is pretty obvious. :D

Rose of May isn't one I was thinking of however, but it still is correct so I'll you that as well (especially as the one I was thinking of does indeed involve Beatrix). ;)

The third one is pretty obscure though (but it's close to what you mentioned - beginning of disc 3 yes, but where about exactly is it shown, and in what context?).

So, anyone want to have a go at guessing the last two? (If there are no more takers, you can have the next question Johnny. :)).

aces4839
03-16-2012, 05:14 AM
wasn't there a bouquet of roses offered by the people of Alexandria at the beginning of Disc 3 that was put on Brahne's gravestone?

Enkidoh
03-16-2012, 07:11 AM
That's correct Aces. Doctor Tot mentions it during that scene.

That leaves the second one still unknown. Any takers?

Okay, I'll give a hint - this is to do with Beatrix but isn't really noticeable in game (it concerns her appearance). This is very obscure though.

If no one gets it in a day I'll end this question and award it to either Aces or Johnny.

Enkidoh

I'm pretty sure that question has already been asked before.

But anyway, it afflicts them with negative status effects (Poison and Blind at the very least if I remember rightly) while at the same time completely restoring their HP and MP. It has this same effect if used on an enemy too.

In fact, this is a useful trick to hinder the enemy, particularly bosses, by chucking a tent at them right at the start of the battle. Because the battle has only just begun, the HP restoration isn't a problem anyway. ;) Using it on a member of your party can also be considered a last resort method of healing if you don't have Garnet or Eiko in your party and you're out of Potions and Elixirs.
