Yes, that's what I was wondering. Now go back and answer my original question.

CC
01-12-2010, 07:20 AM
Yes, Rumplestiltzkin.

Has nobody really heard Rumplestiltzkin?

I remember that book from my childhood; very fond memories. I don't know the other one, I just thought I'd say that :D

FF1WithAllThieves
01-13-2010, 05:53 AM
Ok, I'll drop another hint. Rumplestiltzkin, the character after whom Stiltzkin is named, is the main character in a collection of fairy tales. The figures I'm asking for are two German guys who collected those fairy tales; Terry Gilliam did a movie about them.

Agent0042
01-13-2010, 06:08 AM
I think I have an idea of which movie you're talking about. Would searching around on the Internet be allowed, in terms of trying to find the two people you're mentioned?

impudent urinal

The Brothers Grimm? I enjoyed that movie.
Google leads me to Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm.

Edit: Agent types faster than me.

No, you got it, and I think I misunderstood the question. In any case, the cat's out of the bag now, but let's wait for the confirmation.

FF1WithAllThieves
01-13-2010, 02:13 PM
Ja, die Antwort ist Jacob und Wilhelm Grimm.

Yes, the brothers Grimm was what I was looking for. And I apologize if the question was confusing; I really thought it'd be easier.

impudent urinal
01-14-2010, 08:11 AM
Well after that one, lets go with an easier question.
What is the name of the old man who lives on Observatory Mountain and what does he ask you to get for him?

Enkidoh
01-14-2010, 09:37 AM
That would be Morrid. And he asks for rare coffee I think, which there are several you can find throughout the game. The exact names elude me though.

EDIT: the coffee he asks for is Moccha Coffee, Kirman Coffee, and Burman Coffee, found at South Gate (the gate on the King Ed Plains with the healing spring in it), Madain Sari, and bought from Treno's Auction House after Garnet becomes Queen, respectively.

impudent urinal
01-14-2010, 11:37 AM
Correct, except the Burman coffee is found in Dali, not at the auction house.
But that wasn't part of my question, so your go Enkidoh.

Enkidoh
01-14-2010, 02:22 PM
No prob. :)

Now for my question.

At the start of the game, what is written on Vivi's fake ticket to the play that clearly gives away it's lack of authenticity? (hint, you can check this by selecting it in the key items list in the inventory)

FF1WithAllThieves
01-14-2010, 03:01 PM
I Want to be your Crow

Enkidoh
01-15-2010, 02:27 AM
That is correct!

Your question FF1WAT. ;)

FF1WithAllThieves
01-15-2010, 05:24 AM
Alright, I want you to name the three least expensive (mp-wise) skills that can do 9999 damage and tell me how much they cost.

feralanima
01-15-2010, 07:20 PM
Amarants Spare Change, Quina's Frog Drop, and Zidanes Theivery, and if I recall correctly they all cost 10mp or less.

FF1WithAllThieves
01-20-2010, 02:03 PM
Whoa, sorry, I've been busy and tired; completely forgot to check this. I hadn't thought of Spare Change since you have to pay money to use it, but since I DID say "mp-wise" your answer is correct. I was looking for Dragon's Crest, btw.

feralanima
01-20-2010, 03:45 PM
Awesome, I thought Freya had one too, but I couldn't recall since she wasn't one of my main characters to use.

Carbuncle performs Ruby Light when summoned, casting Reflect on your party, but will cast different spells depending on what accessory Eiko has equipped. So, my question is: What are these other accessories and what does Carbuncle cast? There are only three of them.

Enkidoh
01-21-2010, 05:33 AM
Emerald Light (casts Haste on the party) with an Emerald equipped, Pearl Light (casts Protect on the party) with a Moonstone equipped, and finally Diamond Light (casts Vanish on the party) with a Diamond equipped.

Incidentally, Fenrir also has a similar optional attack as well. :)

feralanima
01-21-2010, 05:05 PM
That would be correct, your go Enkidoh!

Fenrir does have it as well, but only has one other option with the Maiden Prayer equipped.

Enkidoh
01-22-2010, 05:26 AM
Okay.

Garnet's Odin Eidolon when summoned deals an instant death attack to an enemy or else misses entirely. However, there is a certain ability that only Garnet can learn which ensures Odin does damage if the 'instant death' attack misses when summoned. What is the name of this ability, what is the accessory that grants it, and what is the element that Odin's summon attack changes to?

impudent urinal
01-23-2010, 06:39 AM
The ability is Odin's Sword, the item is the Ancient Aroma and since I have no idea I'll just take a stab and guess it is non-elemental.

Enkidoh
01-23-2010, 07:24 AM
Correct in the first two cases, although the element I won't bother with because it's rather hidden (only by checking the description of Odin's listing in Garnet's spell menu with the Odin's Sword ability set on mentions it, which is Wind elemental).

Anyway, you basically got the question right so well done! Go ahead and post a question when you're ready. :D

impudent urinal
01-24-2010, 08:33 AM
The ability "Flee" can be learned from 4 weapons and one other item. What is the item?

Enkidoh
01-24-2010, 10:26 AM
Germina's Boots

And incidentally although they're an accessory in FFIX, they're footwear in FF Tactics. ;)

briankelly130
01-25-2010, 01:48 AM
I know Enkidoh should go but hasn't so I'll just post a question

What does winning the Tetra Master tournament in Disc 3 give you?

FF1WithAllThieves

Enkidoh
01-25-2010, 07:34 AM
Thank you. ;)

Where are the only two places/times in the game that you can gain the Holy Lance weapon for Freya?

non-canon sousaphone
01-25-2010, 08:26 PM
You can stal one from the Ark and buy one from Moonrock's mogshop. My sis said she got hers somewhere else though. :?:

Enkidoh
01-26-2010, 08:55 AM
Correct!

You can first steal one from Ark during the boss fight against it at the bottom of Oeilvert, but you can buy one for 11000 gil from the Mogshop in Bran Bal in case you missed it the first time.

But if you don't get it then you've lost it forever. I've checked the strategy guide and I'm pretty much 100% sure you can't get it anywhere else.

Go ahead and post a question when you're ready. :)

Enkidoh
01-27-2010, 09:18 AM
Well, if no one else wants to ask one, then I'll go ahead and post a question. :)

What is the special ability that allows both Garnet and Eiko's eidolons to use their full summon animations every time the eidolon is summoned, and what is the accessory that grants it?

feralanima
01-27-2010, 03:43 PM
The ability would be Boost, and I believe you learn it from a Pumice Piece.

Enkidoh
01-28-2010, 09:08 AM
That would be.... correct! :)

Incidentally, Boost traditionally is a Monk ability that increases physical attack power, so it's use here for Eidolons (and in FFVIII for GFs) is quite ironic. ;)

Anyway, you got it so go ahead and post a question when you want.

feralanima
01-28-2010, 03:20 PM
Alrighty then, since we're on abilities. Quina's blue magic spell Doom is learned only by two monsters in the game, who are these two monsters?

impudent urinal
01-28-2010, 08:27 PM
It can be learned from a Veteran in Ipsen's Castle and an Ash in Memoria.

feralanima

Yup, your go!

BTW, I love your user name, gives me a good giggle everytime I see it :)

impudent urinal

Also If you like the name you owe Sarah some kudos. Send her a cookie or something.

feralanima
01-29-2010, 05:44 PM
That would be 1,000 Needles learned from the Cactaur.

I'm not really good at knowing people by their actual names here on the forum, so I don't know who Sarah is.

Thanks to auto-regen, long summon animations became somewhat of a positive thing in the later parts of FFIX, prompting many players to summon Ark during the final boss fight and see all their characters heal completely without having to spend a turn on curative magic. But, what is the SECOND longest summon animation in the game?

feralanima

Madeen

FF1WithAllThieves

feralanima

Eiko and Garnet have a lot of the same magic, they do have some varying ones. Which one of the two girls has more variety of spells?

Enkidoh
02-12-2010, 06:59 PM
Well, I'll have to say Eiko has the greater variety of White Magic, as Garnet is more a Summoner. Even with Summons, despite Eiko only having four Eidolons to learn, several have optional attacks (by equipping certain accessories). Eiko also gets more unique White Magic spells than Garnet too. ;)

So I'm going to say Eiko.

feralanima
02-12-2010, 11:52 PM
That would be correct!

They share most white magic. Garnet has four extra while Eiko has 8 different extra white magic skills.

After rereading my own post, I realized that I should have specified that i ment White Magic, and not summons and magic. Either way, you are correct, whenever you're ready have at it.

Yes!! It took me some time, but finally a success:). Thanks impudent urinal. Ok, my question.

Name all the locations on the world map, that have a Terran origin ( were not a part of Gaia before Terra-Gaia Fusion ). That might be a tricky one, I think :) I've counted 10 of them.
Hint: 6 of them can be accessed only once on CD3.

Iifa Tree
Shimmering Island
The Wind Shrine
Earth Shrine
Water Shrine
Fire Shrine
Ipsen's Castle (where you get all the mirrors for the shrines)
Oeilvert (the room with all the faces)
Black Mage Village (since they are based from Garland's genomes) ???
Kuja's Castle since he's Terran ???

I would say Memoria, but you said before the fusion, so.

Szczepan
03-12-2010, 01:44 PM
Nice! You've got 9 correct at your first try. However, Black Mage Village is not one of those locations. It is a very young structure, founded by those black mages, who awakened their conciousness and escaped from Kuja. While there is still one remaining location which is much, much older and was originally part of Terra before the fusion (according to FFIX Ultimania). Just give me name of that one location and question is yours, feralanima.

I've looked through the entire strategy guide and I cannot find anything else on Gaia that could possibly have originated on Terra other than what is mentioned. I did consider Fossil Roo, due to the bizarre ruins that it contains, but that's probably just me grasping at straws. :p

Also, despite what some claim, the Ultimania guides aren't nearly as accurate or canon as they're made out to be, so I wouldn't use anything listed in it for the purposes of this thread.

Esto Gaza maybe???

Szczepan
03-13-2010, 01:28 PM
:D Yes, it's Esto Gaza/Mount Gulug. Mount Gulug is the ancient terran structure, while Esto Gaza connects it with the world map. Me counting it as a one, made it a bit troublesome to guess, but it was necessary to match the question;) Ok, feralanima had 90% on his first try, so that generally was a formality. Plus, he was the only person to put Esto Gaza and Mount Gulug together in one post. Superlasher you came up with Gulug earlier, but... well, you said it yourself one post earlier;) Hope, you won't be unsatisfied...

Anyway, feralanima is next.

Also, despite what some claim, the Ultimania guides aren't nearly as accurate or canon as they're made out to be, so I wouldn't use anything listed in it for the purposes of this thread.

That maybe so, but they have the official blessing of Square Enix, so shouldn't be overlooked either;)

That's actually false though - Mount Gulug is mentioned in the game as being nothing more than an extinct volcano which is why the moles (tonberries?) were mining there. Although having said that though, it does explain why Zorn and Thorn took Eiko there to extract the eidolons from her, kind of. :p

That doesn't mean anything though. The strategy guide just said that Mount Gulug had been 'sealed for many hundreds of years'. Whoever sealed it could have simply used that stone from Oeilvert for the job.

It's been some time since I've played FFIX, so my memories might not be fresh , especially now when I am writing this (it's almost 2 am), so sorry if i will make no sense.

Mount Gulug is mentioned in the game as being nothing more than an extinct volcano which is why the moles (tonberries?) were mining there.

Well, we have to remember that people living on surface of Gaia have no idea of Garland's conspiracy or even Terra's existence, so for them it would naturally be just an old, extinct volcano... Unless it was said by Kuja... hmm I don't remember that..

That doesn't mean anything though. The strategy guide just said that Mount Gulug had been 'sealed for many hundreds of years'. Whoever sealed it could have simply used that stone from Oeilvert for the job.

If it's Terran origin location then it would make sense that Garland didn't want Gaians snooping around there...
Well, if Gulug is not one of Terra's remnants on Gaia, then who would have any interest in sealing it with a heavily guarded item kept in Oeilvert- another Terran structure? The other question, why did Kuja went with all this trouble to send Zidane and the rest to get Gulug Stone , if the only thing they did there was a failed extraction of Eidolons from Eiko... Couldn't they perform it in Desert Palace when party was captured? But still, it's just an assumption, as games does not answer those questions... (I think)

With all the friendly monsters you encounter, you have to give them something, typically an ore or two. There is an island with nothing but Yan's on it (great for leveling). There is friendly Yan monster, but it will not appear until you have met what condition, and what is it he asks from you?

Hmm, that's odd. Everywhere I checked online stated that it was actually FFV's airship listed on the Airship card (particularly FF Compendium, but that site has listed inaccurate info in the past (the reference is listed at http://www.ffcompendium.com/h/incross.shtml#ff9 ):

Other cards are Boco (a chocobo from FF5) and Airship (the airship from FF5). .

I do seem to recall reading in a magazine that stated it was also FF5's airship listed on that card too.

But anyway, I didn't mean to be stubborn on this, just I wanted to find out for sure which FF game it actually originated from. :)

EDIT: I've just compared the sprite from the Airship card with the airship sprites from FFIV, and they indeed do not resemble FFIX's card. Unfortunately I lack the sprite for FFV's airship, so I can't finalize the comparison, but I'l leave it up to the reader to make their own judgements. ;)

FF1WithAllThieves
03-30-2010, 05:19 AM
I believe I have the answer to the mystery, which, had you not pointed it out, I would never have noticed in the first place. The reason I assumed the airship to be from Final Fantasy IX is twofold; one, I'm pretty sure the official strategy guide (which, I regret, I possess) says that the airship card depicts the airship from final fantasy IV (and if not, the picture in the guide looks like it,) and two, the airship from final fantasy V that is pictured on the Airship card, which, I now am convinced, DOES come from FFV, is a combination of the shape/size of the SECOND airship you get in FFIV, at the bottom of the tower of Babil, and the color scheme of the Enterprise, which is the first airship you get in FFIV. So, even though under these circumstances I would give Techchild credit for noticing that, since Enkidoh answered first and got what I now know to be the actual correct answer, Enkidoh is now awarded the question.

Also, since the picture plan didn't seem to work out too well, I'll just tell you; the answer to the bonus is that Cid Pollendina (who I originally thought designed the correct airship before Enkidoh demonstrated otherwise) looks an awful lot like Kabal in his field menu picture.

Enkidoh

No problem FF1. :) And I didn't mean to steal Techchild's thunder either. I just wanted to clarify it.

Anyway:

This is a real easy question, but anyhoo - what optional boss takes it's name of a major character from Frank L Baum's famous 'Oz' series of novels? (there's a big hint that should be obvious right there. :p)

Techchild

Ozma Weapon?

Enkidoh
04-01-2010, 08:40 AM
More or less correct. It's Ozma, not 'Ozma Weapon' though. But you got it anyway. Ozma takes it's name from Princess Ozma, the lost ruler of the land of Oz in Baum's famous stories. She doesn't appear in the first book (and film) though.

Anyway, you got it more or less right so you can have the next question. :)

Before Thorn and Zorn extracted Eidolons from Garnet, she was capable of summoning some of them on CD 1 and 2. However, that required some serious grinding for the best ones, because they required extremely high ammount of MP (much more than the ones learned/relearned later).

Q: Name all the Eidolons she was able to summon before extraction and give me ammount of MP, the most expensive one required (approximate ammount will be enough).

Enkidoh
04-12-2010, 04:59 AM
From what I can recall (I'm too lazy to load up FFIX on my PS2 to check ;)), she has in her summon list Shiva, Ifrit, Atomos and Bahamut. I think she has Odin too, but I'm not too positive.

As for the MP cost, I have no idea (I presume Bahamut would be the most expensive one in MP cost to summon though).

I'm not sure about a boss, but I know that the Epitaph enemies encountered in Oeilvert are easily destroyed by simply using a Gold Needle on them (which cures Petrify). Because these enemies are in a permanent state of Petrification, using such an item destroys them (you get the message 'too soft to live' when you use one on them).

I can't remember any boss which has this particular weakness though.

There is kind of another appearance (well, an identical class of ship), which is destroyed by the Black Mage soldiers during Alexandria's attack on Lindblum in disc 2, but because that ship is obliterated, it's obviously not the Viltgance itself and just another airship of the same class.

You're correct, but I should have been more clear in that I wanted what the glitch does to Iai Strike not what the ability itself does.
Anyway, It ups the accuracy to 30% making it way more effective then it should be.
Your go.

Enkidoh

Behemoth gives more EXP: 53 168 to the Chimera's 42 785.

But then, I did kind of cheat by referring to my strategy guide book for that info so disregard my answer. :p

Well, then Harkus wins, obviously. Honestly, Behemoth's what I would have guessed too, had I taken the first guess-- it just makes more sense, instinctively.

I think I'll give an easier one, they've been really hard.

What is the one point in the game where you can enter the Mayors house in Dali to get the Mayors key?

Harkus

aces4839
06-30-2010, 05:02 PM

what is one of the two main reasons ozma can beat an unprepared party?

Enkidoh
07-11-2010, 09:32 AM
Mainly because he cannot be reached by physical attacks so you can only damage him with magic, and he has a high magic defense too so spells do nowhere near as much damage as they should.

The only way to remove this is by completing the Friendly Monsters quest which removes his magic defense (and makes him vulnerable against Shadow elemental magic, like Ark) and also allows him to take damage from physical attacks, making it much easier.

As well, he has the nasty 'Level 5 Death' attack which kills any character with a level which is a multiple of 5 (like 50, 55 etc). So you need to protect yourself against Instant Death if your party is a level with a multiple of 5.
