This is great. Is there a clean version of "Morning at the Bradbury". It seems like that swooshing wind sound plagues much of the unreleased scores, since it is a sound effect in the movie.

Technically there is no swooshing on that. If you are referring to the version included on the "Chinatown Club" compilation there are foley and fx as in the movie (more or less)... the version on the "Outtakes" is clean anyway.

Say, are you sure about the swooshing wind sound or was it another track?

We were dreading the day we would see the EMS on some eBay listing. ... but I knew soon or later something like that was going to happen.
The whole idea of exploiting the frenzy of people to acquire an item is not something I condone, will ever condone, or ever want...

If we had not shared it then it would have never reached the people we wished to share our labour of love with.
The seller is also listing an expanded version of the 2019 edition, a remixes compilation and the Pendor edition of the Westwood game soundtrack.

What shall we do? Would have changed anything if he had burned the mp3's on cd's and sold that?
If we stop sharing our knowledge is not passing anywhere and will force even more people to spend money on something they cannot find anywhere else like it has happened with the Esper releases in the past.

I trust that the majority of the members here do share the feelings about what should not be done in the first place... but it seems it cannot be avoided.

Please consider making a complaint to eBay to stop the auction... and beware of the ebay sellers who are offering home-made copies of these discs intended as a work from fans to fans and not to cash in easy money on things that are not their own.

On behalf of the EMS Team, DC

Well said DC, we didn't bust our balls so some scumbag could profit from this. I've posted a warning as well on the other soundtrack thread. I would encourage all FFShrine users to report this "person" straight away.

... and it is not the only one it seems... :(

In a way, we were to expect such mercenary interest from these type of gentlemen too...

These people are shameless thieves who steal honest people's efforts to cash in easy money. Just because they got something doesn't mean they should be allowed to sell it.
The whole auction thing should have been re-thought long ago when it comes to this... greedy bastards...

The die has been cast... What could have we done differently?

Yes. This way is also correct though there might be other possibilities.

When you eventually get to the following message:

We'll review your report carefully and take appropriate action. You don't need to contact us about your report again.

Your report is just one factor we review. To determine the action we take, we'll consider the type of violation you're reporting and how it may impact other eBay members. If the listing doesn't follow our guidelines, it may be removed. However, in some cases, the listing may stay on eBay, and we may contact the member to provide training. We also may place limits on the member's ability to buy or sell on eBay. To protect the privacy of all of our members, we're unable to share the action we take.

...you did what you wished to accomplish in reporting the item.

It' s a shame to see the EMS items sold on ebay...Those greedy bastard used our work only to make easy cash even if we have clearly said it is for promotional only and not for resale.

Fortunately Auction 280866233844 is no longer available and has been removed from ebay !!! auction 280867394186 is still available...

Concerning auction 320892418379, this scumbag used my EMS recombination 3 Discs Definitive Edition MP3 artworks so we could guess he has used lossy source to burn these CD...I am even more angry as, due to lack of money, i can't print my own artworks and/or burn CD's to make a private copy for myself.

sadly we can't avoid things like this to happen and only can report them !!!

A one-plus-three-easy-steps guide for the perfect bladerunner-soundtrack collector swindle:

Preliminary Step: Leech some-other-honest-peer-work.

Step A: 10, 50, 100 pieces of your preferred brand 52X CD-R White Inkjet Printable.

Step B: Genuine Printer Ink Cartridges for your preferred brand of Printer.

Step C: Standard DVD Storage Cases, Quad-Triple-Double-Single-Slim Jewel Cases CD/DVD to hold Front & Back Graphic Inserts.

Last-but-not-least: Honour your fee to the ones you should thank for letting you perform the tried-and-tested method on your preferred target market.

You just need to read the seller's feedback to learn what he's been up to in the past months, including what they have been buying... incidentally these sellers seem bootlegging and re-selling each other's listings... what a bunch of...

Avoid ebay merchants such as "le_petit_ben", "filmyousic", "tyrellrecords", "disneybrideandgroom" (but the list goes on...) if you care.
Do not support the ebay-ready counterfeits of your preferred soundtrack.

As a new member here, I am amazed at the number of Blade Runner tracks I haven't heard, and albums that I never knew existed!

Great work and some incredible time invested in presenting these albums here for everyone to enjoy.

I was sad to see that many of the albums are no longer available due to both Megaupload being shut down and also the br2019.com site being closed :(

Is there any chance of re-uploading some of the great albums no longer available here that have been shared on Megaupload to mediafire instead? Hopefully they have been preserved by other members....

Great work!

Thankyou!

I believe the Blade Runner - Voight Kampf you are referring to was never shared as lossless. At least not that I know of. I trust you already went through the other thread though....

Both the Grey Fedora Blade Runner - All Those Moments – Music From The World Of Blade Runner and the Blade Runner - Silver Edition might be re-uploaded if that is your wish.

The Blade Runner - Radio 1 Hannover, Germany was compiled from mp3's of the Off World Edition so you might want to look for that instead.

Comments :

Blade Runner (Soundtrack) - Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blade_Runner_(soundtrack))

... again, the rest is something that this (Polydor Mockup Edition) and other releases are still trying to fix down with mixed results until the composer itself will decide to do so.
This what if edition, however, appears to be as clever and sound wise as an official one. Some people with hats who wish to remain anonymous and are responsible for the Silver & Moments web release of the score, (which the music on this edition was taken from with some omissions) delivered this witty vision of what might have been back in 1982, (2010 actually), putting into shape what Polydor/PolyGram Records might have taken care of if Vangelis would have agreed to the possibility of having the music he wrote for the movie on vynil at the time.
At some point the label seemed eager to do that, but the score would not appear until 1994, when East West/Atlantic was licensed to publish only a trimmed down version of the soundtrack at last.
The sound quality of this release, given the sources, is pretty outstanding for a start.
Grey Fedora has managed to hit the nail in the proper way.
These guys have a fine taste to do things as they should be done and are kind enough to share their team efforts.

It would nice if it had a isolated score track.

Unfortunately it is not listed on the description of the content... even if I would really like something like the "Chariots of Fire" re-issue which will include the isolated score track... it is unlikely that they might get permission from Vangelis to do such thing... for the same copyright reasons the Blade Runner score was never released most likely... but I'll keep my finger crossed in case "something" might happen and an agreement is reached on such regard! :)

PS: If it is going to be something like "Prometheus" I'd rather not really...

and why not ???
the first "end" of the movie was too"friendly" in my opinion...
And if you have read the original novel .. well Scott didn't follow it "by the book" ....

Let's hope that the new sequel will be as good as the first one...
Did you read already , "Blade Runner 2", from K. W. JETER ?

not bad at all.. so I say go for a sequel.

PS: If it is going to be something like "Prometheus" I'd rather not really...

Never mind, I want it. And definitely in the way of "Prometheus" - nothing straight, but preserves the spirit of original 'world'

Did you read already , "Blade Runner 2", from K. W. JETER ?

not bad at all.. so I say go for a sequel.

Read them all! Too many Blade Runner references in my opinion but the books are good and quite usable as base for a script, but as far as I know they are not considering that... even if they should perhaps.

But perhaps they are hoping to come out with something totally different...

If someone, or even its creator, wants to use "Do Androids Dream Of Electric Sheep?" as a base for a movie or for any other form of art, please do. Just don't label it as "Blade Runner II".

"Prometheus" was supposed to be a prequel of "Alien"... even if they decided not to use that "Alien" label! :)

Never mind, I want it. And definitely in the way of "Prometheus" - nothing straight, but preserves the spirit of original 'world'

Too many years has passed... Sir Ridley has changed. The new screenplayers seems more focused with special fx than storytelling... the digital cameras will inevitably give everything a different shade...

I do hope to be able to watch the sequel as many times as I've been watching the original.

In order to create you need to destroy first

... and I wish them all the best to get what they are wanting to achieve. Prometheus is missing a lot of extra scenes on the theatrical release... it just hangs there where something would have been needed to be there to explain things better... I liked the movie but I was expecting something as deep as the first Alien film in a way...

The famous "Prologue" (the opening track of the movie that was never officially released) will feature on the new 2CD official Vangelis compilation ("The Collection", Atlantic 2564658108) to be released on July 23rd.

The Collection | Vangelis - Tlcharger et couter l'album (http://www.qobuz.com/album/the-collection-vangelis/0825646581078)

Samples are up on that page. However, if you listen closely to the sample for track 12 on Disc 1, it seems that Vangelis pointlessly merged the ending with dialogue from the film >.< WHY???

It seems that they just mixed the 1994 Main Titles version with the original 1982 Prologue & Main Titles version... F DOTS :(

Typical Vangelis...

At least one can now fiddle with the full spectrum of the Prologue at the correct pitch (which should be the same one of the BluRay I'm hoping)... It would sound odd to pick up the Vangelis masters only to add 2 minutes to a track.

I DO HOPE THEY DID INCLUDE THE FULL TRACKS... AND NOT THE SEQUENCED VERSIONS WITH THE TAILS FADING INTO THE BEGINNING OF THE NEXT TRACK...

PLEASE FATHER XMAS... I PROMISE TO BEHAVE GOOD FOR AT LEAST 4 WEEKS IN A ROW...

Wasn't that supposed to be a tatoo? Not that easy to wash off... :)

I wonder if they'll fix that glitch too at this point...

Yes of course. That's what I meant. She goes to the shower and washes off all that stuff (including body paint?) and voila: there it is.

The tatoo/body painting mysteriously appears after she had a shower... it is not there at all during the show and before the shower... it looks like they filmed the club scenes after the shower scene... or that they just forgot about the tatoo/body painting when they filmed the other scene... it does not matter much anyway! :)

<a target='_blank' title' href='http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/266/bodypainting7a28482259.jpg/'><img src='' border='0'/></a>

It could be that in 2019 tatoos will change and appear depending from our mood via an electronic device... who knows!

I'll repeat: To me it looks like she washes off some artificial tan or grounding for the little applications - which of course was covering her tattoo. :)

I see! You meant that she washes away the pink foundation or whatever she had applied on her skin! Plausible and good explanation then! ;)

I'm currently listening to the Main Titles from the new release: The Collection and I can confirm that it has a different opening then the official album has. However after a short while the album version fades in with Dekard talking and from there on it's the regular album version. I have no idea if it's different in the movie, still haven't seen it yet (darn Blu-ray release takes to long :p). But it's quite refreshing to hear the new opening to the track :)

Uploading as I type, it should feature all Blade Runner tracks however only the Main Titles is really worth it. I might have missed one track or added one to many, I'm not to well known with the names of the tracks of the album so sorry for that :)

Edit:
Download link, no password.
Ripped using Foobar2000 v1.1.8, FLAC compression set at level 5 including original tracklisting of compilation.
I honestly was to lazy to relist the tracks so you can do with it whatever you want, enjoy!

Are they thick or what?

Did they f dots get crazy or what?

They bloomin' normalized all the Blade Runner 1994 tracks... same mistakes... same bloomin' dc offset issues... same everything... including the bloomin' rain at the end of End Titles...

Are we sure it is the real deal? I did way better using a simple denoiser on the tail of End Titles to get rid of the rain when I needed a clearer edit... and I am not a professional.

I just cannot believe that such a big record label can get this low... I am just disappointed about the technical details of this release...

Definitely worth for the Vangelis music but the same cannot be told for the Blade Runner side of it I'm afraid...

They could have done wonders but they just failed to achieve anything better than average for a tried and tested Best Of ...

Everything is f dots sequenced in the way that mostly gets me on the nerves and not mastered from the masters... just lifted from the same source of the Trilogy cd's...

When someone first told me about a 30th Anniversary edition I went nuts and I would have never expected yet another remastering of the movie.

I obviously expected something closer to an extention of the 25th Anniversary on cd...

No way... and still no way for a decent release of the soundtrack as it should be done. :(

I'll pass on this really... even if the Main Titles edit is pretty wicked though... and I'm glad I am given some promotional copies of it...

Thanks for the preview anyway! ;)

Comments :

This is the story of one half and another half and their undisputed passion for a much bootlegged soundtrack and how they came to speak to each other without ever using once their outdated mobile phones. Video phones are still too far from domestic usage though it will be the default in a not so distant future, but let’s the story begin.

There were once two most peculiar peers, one half and another half. One being as accurate as he could almost get, we will call him DC, and the other half even more perfectionist as the other would not have never thought of being and his name was Pendor. One of them used to use the latest generation of mobile phones on the market, the other is the last one to use that technology in mobile phones… and both are very… but very deaf indeed.
DC usually utilizes the latest in software & hardware technology, however Pendor is the last human being using prehistoric software & hardware, and some even claim to have seen him using a legendary Commodore 64 (but probably it is only a legend).
Another legend says that DC is more good and kind than Lassie, and Pendor also resembles to the famous TV dog (but when the dog had contracted rabies).
Also the mental health of both has been put in serious doubt (but that was many years before this project).

It is the first time that it has been used electronics specially designed for the restoration and remastering of the "Soundtrack Outtakes" precisely the "Pendor Processor BR-101", built with some very old components or as old as the age of their own preferred film (Blade Runner n.d.r.).
They both grew up with compact cassettes but later converted to the new religion of the colder digital format being disillusioned with the limitations of tape cassettes when the improvements in fidelity were clearly audible and the tradeoff much more bearable.
Two half hackers unsusceptible to repentance, not even attempting to make a charade out of a full grown one for the sake of what they seem to like best: reverse-sound-engineering their preferred soundtrack. We hope that that won’t bother you much and if it slightly pleases you they will surely appreciate.

Pendor is a most peculiar and determined peer. They say he uses the mobile as a phone only. No games to pass the time, big keys to better type SMS messages, no internet connection to receive notifications from social networks where he is pretty invisible as far as they might be concerned, neither watching movies on tiny screens or listening to music with cheap earphones. He tends to use one of that old fashioned compact disc Walkman’s quite popular in the previous century of which he is still quite fond of.
He does not like at all listening to the latest compressed and portable music formats (as it seems to be latest trend) and the word referring to it does not even exist in his vocabulary.
We do not need to know much of his whereabouts. Only thing you want to know is that he decided and settled that english language was something for rich tourists going abroad when it comes to ask directions or asking out ladies that will always say yes to everybody with green paper slips in big leather wallets.
They say he still owns a mobile from 2002 and still proud to use it. It does what it is supposed to do as far he is concerned.
DC is a most peculiar peer too, at times he has some bright idea but not so fortunate perhaps. When his old mobile phone broke (and was asked double the price for a new one just for a glimpse by the qualified and expert personnel), he immediately fancied a replacement in black and white as he always had possibly. Not much need for color graphics to dial a combination of numbers as a matter of fact.
The shop assistant only smiled quite amused at such request since she was little when she first heard the beeping of mobile phones of her mother.
Ten years ago mobile phones were completely a different world.
Black and white displays were on their way to become obsolete by then and color displays are the default standard on every phone in these days.
To cut the story short he now owns a newer generation mobile phone even if he only texts messages and calls back the numbers on his address book when he is not fiddling and messing with his computers if their planned obsolescence is not striking as thunderbolts from above and beyond on whatever he is doing, and not distracted from a tiny grab-attentions-brat who keeps stealing all his toys and asking questions on most things she cannot quite grasp the meaning yet.
He also tried to exchange his telephone number with the helpful shop assistant having overcome some difficulties of the first approach at that point, but even if she was engaged and assured her he was not a jealous guy, she never called back and he's still looking for his other half ever since, but that is another story. Would that have been the lucky chance to actually settle up we might have not heard of him at all in this story. But that's the problem with most peers: they want what they can't have and don't want what they can have.
Back to our story, we might definitely state they live on quite the opposite sides of the oceans but they learnt to communicate via online translators in that very same language used by rich tourists when going abroad.
They had the same peculiarities about mobile phones and quite a few interests to share when it was mutually settled to help each other in leaving something to the growing and ageing peers alike. Not because they wanted some not-so-honest people and their grey bussiness to flourish (eBuy), but to leave something they believe it would have been only fair for other peers to have.
What they were given they gave back, sometimes fixing it and sometimes not.
What was not given they could not possibly fix nor give back. If you help other people achieve their goals, they’ll help you achieve yours. And so it happened.
The motto of 'The 29th Anniversary Team' has been "Let everyone have access to all, rather than a few have access to a lot" which means they support enlightment rather than elite-nment, but you all know that.

DC is a most industrious-but-not-so-organized hacker working overnight. He always dreamt of starting a 29th Anniversary edition since day two when he had found out like-minded individuals sharing his same interests on some obscure and most infamous digital “plazas” a year earlier. Being a most ruthless but honest hacker he pretty stole few patents about what it might have been the proper thing to do, Donnor & 1187 Hunterwasser came definitely first; Anita & Anson were the next on the list to be notified, and a very talentuous hacker named Zyzz (with whom he keeps exchanging plans and opinions) being the last but not least on a list that started from some mysterious guys better known as the FIC Trust., Esper Team(s) Inc., Bradbury Producers, detectives in Grey Fedora hats, 2019 Makers Ltd., Off World Editors and EMS archaeologists (where he pretty made his bones).
He got permissions when asked very politely, and trying a different approach, (and also copying the different approaches on the same subject), reverse-sound-engineering after reverse-sound-engineering and several missed night sleeps he eventually (even if not finally) come out with something.

This half was not having sufficient night sleeps at the time (which should have been mandatory) and took the bad habit of fixing (making more appropriate if you like) most of the more obscure versions he was having... and since he owned nearly close to nothing (compared to what he has piled to date) the "LMS", "Ultimate" and "Tapes Collection" were conceived to fix what he was having at the time.
The trouble, as you might see, came when he started having more versions of the soundtrack and eventually proper night sleeps... By this time it emerged he was not the only one "left" in those obscure and most infamous whereabouts (FFShrine and Yahoo)... damn hackers working overtime... and lot more contrived to make the matter diverse and more complicated...

At some point he finally balanced his fragmented collection of minutes to finish this thing off and what was supposed to be only a joke of something known as 20th Anniversary turned into something different.

When asked his answer was always: “very soon”, more in the fashion of politicians when asked to do anything, but definitely more determined to honor his words compared to the formers. Would he not have kept his promises he might have become a politician with plenty of those green paper slips.

The final drafts of the masters were at some re-shipped to a different host because of the annoying Stop Online Piracy Act acts... Further changes were discussed; better sources were in some cases considered... and what was originally intended as a "parody" (for the better and no more than that really) of the original 20th Anniversary edition was finished in December 2011, and used only as a workprint for the changes needed to make it better.
Plenty of changes actually. Spare time seemed to be quite on a wish list back then, (it still is), but as it is his intention, he will see into posting that rough version during his lifetime if possible.

The 20th Anniversary was a mixture of the Off World edition and the official 1994 edition of the soundtrack without taking into account the huge difference in quality between them. On The 29th Anniversary something was done to even out the differences but they would not count on near-perfect-quality for the 29th Anniversary.
That is something residing somewhere in someone’s other drawers (and at the correct pitch too), so quality was not much an issue in its initial stage.
At least same quality of the official 25th Anniversary sources and almost-perfect-but-not-quite quality for the rest of the unreleased cues on the Off World edition and front and rear audio channels leaked from the speeded up (compared to the original NTSC) PAL movie digital versatile discs.

And that was when the other half slipped into our story.

Pendor is a most industrious and dangerous hacker too. Stubborn to the point of being right even if the other is not wrong. What one half has started this other half has seen for the better, most he has started the one half has made him changing, what the one half has changed the other half has re-made.
The other half did a terrific job in giving all the cues a more polished touch... he always had a more objective approach as a whole, while the first half got lost in the making we have to admit.
What they have re-made they have changed over time.
What it was decided in time it was inevitably changed again at the last moment.
Not an easy thing to settle up on something when both are wanting to achieve what they think it might be best thing to do but you might want to check that part of the story for yourself hopefully.
To cut the story short after months of turning round the same tails to make it as perfect as they could get they eventually settled up on something in between, the best of both worlds we might say, and what they have started it was finally finished.

He wished to add better edits of the less good sources where the EMS Team had stopped digging and things were turned into something different. Like it has happened when compiling the infamous EMS, time helped smoothing out lot of discrepancies between the sources and adding extra details by the day.
Attention to problems went to matter more than solutions to those problems.

What they ended up doing together was making what it was intended as a quick and dirty here-you-have-it-all-Blade-Runner-soundtrack-related in a single package into something better.

In a way the 29th Anniversary is the closest attempt to a die-hard collector's dream come true with all the wealth of informations most-if-not-all-blade-runner-related and the more-purist collectors will inevitably find that redundant. If both will be quite pleased (as they are hoping) they achieved their goal.

Even if it should have been released in 2011, with its official release stretching to 2012 it might have easily changed name to 30th Anniversary, but since they did most of the work in 2011 they are getting along with the original 29th Anniversary name.

After inevitably adding new edits and ideas when one half was working on the cues for The Tapes Collection, LMS, Ultimate MR2, Chinatown and EMS, time after time it grew bigger. The 29th Anniversary was actually being half of the project while the rest was the more cinematic approach of the EMS Japanese disc experiments. It was almost radically re-worked to the point that it really turned into a 30th Anniversary edition at some point, (being only for the sake of not changing also the artworks again... and the a-bit-too-obvious-hence-dangerous similarities with the new re-edition of their much loved movie...)
By sheer chance sequences of the workprint version of movie materialized... and they had to sort that out as well. Other changes were made to the trailers and the logo music... lots of changes... the proper credits were compiled, corrected and then re-compiled... it was just details and checking if they could get any better than they did after that. The important bits are eventually finished it seems... the rest will have to wait until the 30th Anniversary, (unless the composer himself will opt for a more official 30th Anniversary of which most likely us common peers might not surely or immediately grasp the inner sequenced-and-edited meaning...)

So not to generate confusion both halves agreed to post the final output first and the files originally intended for it at a later date. You won't notice much of a difference anyway... except that the original concept consisted of nine discs perhaps...
You're not that blade-runner-soundtrack-crazy are you?
Not to the point of bidding half their likely wage on a counterfeit copy on an auction we’re hoping (eBuyers). Are you?

This is where they have got so far anyway. The rest of the story is what you will be listening to if that pleases you.

DC was lastly seen in a quiet dutch coffee shop enjoying the surroundings thanks to a forged ID card… Pendor was recognized on a not so crowded beach at a world’s end with a nice view on the south pole.
They swear not to want to hear of each other after what they have been through after all these months but they are probably still bitching about most things and happy to uncover what all have been waiting for.

The last thing you want to know is that they lived happily and ate partridges!

Hello, I was hoping someone would be willing to re-up The New American Orchestra version of the music from page one? I think I've just about found all the other versions I was hoping to find except that one. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much, and this new 29th anniversary is absolutely splendid. Thanks again for that!

I was hoping someone would be willing to re-up The New American Orchestra version of the music from page one?

"The Blade Runner 20th Anniversary Edition, out in 2002 and most likely not by the same person responsible for the original Blade Runner Off World Edition as stated on the cd, was a mixture of the Off World Edition bootleg and the official 1994 edition of the soundtrack without taking into account the huge difference in quality between the sources. On The 29th Anniversary all that could be done was done to even out the differences even if the makers would not count on "near perfect" quality for this 29th Anniversary version.
At least same quality of the official 25th Anniversary sources and "almost perfect but not quite" quality for the rest of the unreleased cues on the Off World edition, Soundtrack Outtakes and front and rear audio channels leaked from the speeded up (compared to the original NTSC) PAL movie DVDs in some cases. This is meant to be a private release related to everything Blade Runner to celebrate its 29th anniversary and is not licenced for public sale. All rights of the producer and of the owner of the work reproduced reserved. This is a fan-work and not for profit. All copyrights belong to their respective owners. No copyright infringement intended. Not for sale: do not support eBay piracy. It was available for members of a private forum owing the official releases of the soundtrack but sadly missing what was so laboriously included in these companion discs."

Part 2 is pretty nice too. I remember it took ages to get the cd from Tel Aviv at the time. I would have liked an EP out of those Maxi's but it never seemed the case with that release.

A part of it (mostly edited) was also used for the more recent download-only release "Hommage A Blade Runner" which includes also the previously unreleased "Hide & Seek" and "Megapolis" if you like the ambient side of the originals.

29th Anniversary is a great collection, and makes all others pretty much redundant (I'd have liked the tracks to have merged myself, but we all have our bias).

The cover options are nice designs but a bitch to print and use properly. Does anybody have regular jewel case options for the artwork ?

Thanks.

I'm afraid the option is not available... unless you make it yourself.

Hoping someone will post the NEW rerecording.

Just curious to hear it.

The 29th Ani. became too much over kill for me with its inclusion of every bit of unconnected Flotsam and Jetsam. A coherent flowing soundtrack is very nice. ;-)

Just wanted to add my two bits that since I regard BR as a perfectly self-contained (to say nothing of brilliant) work of art, I need a sequel as much as I need a new Last Supper - maybe one with Russell Crowe in place of Jesus Christ. Thanks but no thanks. In fact I've read that Ridley Scott is planning just such a sequel, but after Prometheus, yeah - I'll pass, I don't need to see the desaturated flatness and dead ambiance of CG, I don't need a new story tacked onto the old, I don't need to see the industry's latest hardbodies taking a crap on my favorite movie. For what? What could anyone possibly hope to gain from such an experience? PFFFT!

If any of you have been members of BladeZone long enough, you might even remember me; I was the guy telling a member that I was revolted by the idea of his writing an "Esper Manual" for profit. It was a friggin' prop in a friggin' movie, guys! Ideas like that are beyond ridicule and contempt; it's like Klingon Dictionary writers (though I'm not a Trekkie) - I regard them as parasites on the order of remoras or worse. Love the movie, love the music, be passionate about them to a near-OCD degree, that's all good and fine, but show some damn respect for them! I had to leave BladeZone and never return because it was bad for my mental hygiene seeing these schmucks trying to write themselves into the BR story.

On the other hand, creating beautifully remastered complete soundtracks is providing a genuine service to fans, and I am speechlessly grateful to people like the EMS Team. Thanks to all who have brought us this fantastic music with no expectation of recompense.

Somehow I'm hoping to reserve my opinion about a sequel once it's done... though I do second your thoughts so far. I did not mind Prometheus... but after knowing what he has done I felt quite cheated... but it was me expecting another masterpiece... and I was wrong. People change, so he has...

It is still a nice place for everything Blade Runner related and packed with lots of useful infos anyway... the interview to the Esper Team, The White Dragon Cut and al the rest... some users might have different point of views but the admins did a great job in giving voice to them... I was able to start the download, so you might be as lucky as I was. Also try opening a free account with the file hoster. I understand that the file hoster has limited the access to unlimited downloads of split archives and a set limit has been reached. If the limit for this file has been reached try another day. Unfortunately on FFS side it has touched nearly 1300 while double that figure might have been reached on the repost on AvaxHome. It is still currently seeded on eMule also. Though a bit slow the file is still there if needed.

We are missing the subject of the question somehow... Whatever that might be, most likely you are trying to extract the files from a multi-volume archive but not starting from the one you should click first... just click on the one going: .part1.rar and the rest will follow. If anything else... drop a message. :)

Happy New Year everybody by the way! Have a sober one! ;)

I'm wondering how part1 of the same archive is escaping the same doom....

Get whatever you might still get ASAP anyway. ;)

Mediafire is quite random in that regard, I've left more often files open that weren't even copyrighted and they deleted stuff and the copyrighted stuff was left intact...

dadadacicici
02-10-2013, 10:55 AM
I am guessing they are more focused on what's inside the archives and if that matches a reported copyright content the archive is blocked. Let's say you have a multi-volume archive splitted in 4 parts and part 3 contains a song/file matching their filters then part 3 is blocked though the rest will be still there. Passworded/encrypted archives will end up being blocked because they cannot be checked and so they get blocked after the first check which does not happen automatically most likely. But they are going more strict lately end we're back to the egg with everything done so far... While I do agree on copyrights matters when it comes to something easily bought and found virtually everywhere I do not agree on what they are doing with anything copyright related at the moment. I'm afraid the new peers on the block will have a tougher time than we peers of old all had.

Blade Runner Audio fidelity 180g Vinyl 24Bit-96kHz.

The needle used might not have been top class and there are some occasional clicks and pops, but we get the picture of the content of this version on vinyl.

Thanks a lot to the ripper/uploader goes without saying! ;)

The vinyl has more definition on the bell sounds and a deeper punch on the low frequency content... the dynamic looks untouched compared to the 1994 mastering session though a bit lower compared to the official cd edition... but I'd rather turning the volume knob up rather than having the sound squashed compared to other recent Vangelis remasterings.
It has retained the classical type of feel of the original mastering... and that's jusy perfect in my opinion!
The only drawback I could experience is on End Titles which I prefer as smokey as the version on the 1994 cd. On the vinyl it sounds brighter... but that may be a matter of personal tastes.
I remember having quite a hard time when with Pendor we got stucked on all the tries for that particular track when assembling the 29th Anniversary.
It shouldn't have been that easy mixing in all the different layers on that... The version on Odyssey was a nice try but I still liked the original 1994 mix more...

I won't swap my cd for the vinyl though I do appreciate the effort... and I'll keep both! ;)

Thanks for the 24bit 96khz preview... though you all might want to invest in the real deal (http://www.audiofidelity.net/content/vangelis-blade-runner) if you're having a decent hi-fi. :)

By the way: do you happen to have a better resolution of the flyer you have posted?

Certainly not an audiophile setup I have here, just a Dual CS-505-4 from the 1990s. :) The needle was new a few years ago and I can count on two hands the number of LPs I've played, but it won't be perfect. The speed may be a slight issue as well, the bands were renewed at the same time as the needle and may need renewing again. The vinyl was recorded through an ARTcessories DJ Pre II, into a Scarlett Focusrite 18i6 to WaveCorrector where the worst of the clicks and pops were cleaned. There are still some.
Sadly the vinyl isn't perfect. ;) I had to be very careful of the recording level due to the big drum hits of the Main titles, and the general loudness of Blade Runner (End Titles).

I put this out since I know some people may not have the opportunity to listen to it given the format.

I found the flyer online, there is a slightly bigger version floating around.

Not an audiophile setup, but not a bad one either... I wish most rips downloaded from the net had the same quality.

The only problem with record players is the bloody maintenance. It might take months before getting to play a record again... and you discover that the belt grew larger and the damn technician will ask you three days' work to set the thing up all over again... unless you're having a 1200's.

It might take some time before finding my copy in the post... so the thanks are even bigger for having had the opportunity to listen to it! ;)

So I might not even feel the need to play my copy and could sell it at ten times the price I am paying it now! Wou! I did not think about that turn!

It might be an investment! :)

Having said that I just don't like this whole collectors turn of this release. It is already sold out and a second pressing is already being pressed. Obviously the first press will go up to heaven as far market prices are concerned.

Now, let's see to dig out the vinyl player and try out the new soundcard... box A or B or C or D or E... not it was box Z... or X or H... maybe it was locked in the box with the top-shelf magazines when I moved with my girlfriend... Damn it. I can't open that... :(

Comments :

This is the story of one half and another half and their undisputed passion for a much bootlegged soundtrack and how they came to speak to each other without ever using once their outdated mobile phones. Video phones are still too far from domestic usage though it will be the default in a not so distant future, but lets the story begin.

There were once two most peculiar peers, one half and another half. One being as accurate as he could almost get, we will call him DC, and the other half even more perfectionist as the other would not have never thought of being and his name was Pendor. One of them used to use the latest generation of mobile phones on the market, the other is the last one to use that technology in mobile phones and both are very but very deaf indeed.

We hope that that wont bother you much and if it slightly pleases you they will surely appreciate.

He tends to use one of that old fashioned compact disc Walkmans quite popular in the previous century of which he is still quite fond of.
If you help other people achieve their goals, theyll help you achieve yours.

He always dreamt of starting a 29th Anniversary edition since day two when he had found out like-minded individuals sharing his same interests on some obscure and most infamous digital plazas a year earlier.

When asked his answer was always: very soon, more in the fashion of politicians when asked to do anything, but definitely more determined to honor his words compared to the formers.

That is something residing somewhere in someones other drawers (and at the correct pitch too), so quality was not much an issue in its initial stage.

Not to the point of bidding half their likely wage on a counterfeit copy on an auction were hoping (eBuyers). Are you?

This is where they have got so far anyway. The rest of the story is what you will be listening to if that pleases you.

DC was lastly seen in a quiet dutch coffee shop enjoying the surroundings thanks to a forged ID card Pendor was recognized on a not so crowded beach at a worlds end with a nice view on the south pole.
They swear not to want to hear of each other after what they have been through after all these months but they are probably still bitching about most things and happy to uncover what all have been waiting for.

The last thing you want to know is that they lived happily and ate partridges!

Exactly! ;)

Cannot tell if the master had a higher resolution though... but it is a generation less compared to the 1994 Cd... and the DC offset issue is gone too. Most likely filtered though One More Kiss, Dear seems to have also those 'sliced bits' missing from the waveform of the 1994 Cd this time.

Vinyl addicts seems to prefer that 'oversampled' analog sound though...

So how did they get all the missing songs in the 29th Anniversary Soundtrack? Was it by ripping the blu-ray data (since its multi-layered)?

If you meant multilanguage when you wrote multi-layered the answer is yes. They got most of the missing songs from there, dvd or blu-ray. The rest comes from a painful restoration off the known boots out there and a really deep research on the very same subject of this thread. :)

There used to be a list of the sources used someplace here I think...

This is strange...the 29th Anniversary uploaded has some weird attributes that prevent me from adding it to my NAS storage. I can unpack the rar file and edit the id tags, but can't move it anywhere. It's not just a case of going into the folder 'properties' and unticking the 'read only' box. When you exit and re-enter properties the box is no longer unticked. :-(

The file attributes are a sort of digital signature meant to work on NTFS partitions but not FAT for example.
If you wish to store them as separate files (which I do not particularly recomend) just unpack the files to hd and then rar them again.
In doing so the process will ignore the extended file attributes (by default WinRar will ignore that unless you choose to keep them in the advanced tab) and you might safely store them as you intend. Again, I would save the original archives as you got them, but do as you see fit.

You might want to unpack the content on a FAT partition and then copy that on your NAS storage to save time.

Might I ask what's a NAS storage?

The unpacked files are already separate FLAC files. I don't intend to modify them at all. Thanks for the re-archiving tip, I'll try it.
A NAS (Network Attached Storage) is essentially a small enclosure with multiple hard drives installed. Ideal for keeping large libraries of music. They also use RAID technology (Redundant Array of Independent Drives) which in a nutshell means that if one drive fails, I won't lose any data. More on RAID here (http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/RAID).
I'm currently using a Netgear ReadyNAS Ultra 6 which great, no problems. I can even access it remotely from work.

I see. I trust that will be the way to handle large amount of datas in the future. Now there is simply more than we might handle single handed. I am already having problems with everything scattered on separate 80 gb's hd.
The only thing I made the time for was buying a new one to store all the Blade Runner and Vangelis related files. I'd like to do that for the cd's I am having as well, (some started havin problematic issues and I cannot possibly buy them all over again---by now most Vangelis and Blade Runner rareties on cdr are unplayable in most cases), but it will take a lifetime to do so and the only way to achieve something off a lifetime work would ideally be one of those NAT networks with a possibility for everyone to access everyone's effort and not having to start again from scratch every few years with bits of informations lost in the process.
Cloud storage does not work on the long run I'm afraid, not in the way it is being brought forward.
I trust you kids will find a way out of the problem to better handle what's we're left. I am too old for that. :)

No I meant "Multi-Layered". By that I meant that the audio in 5.1 has the music in separate channels apart from the dialogue. That way they can be ripped seperately without any interference. And so it seems they did ....

I would still refer to that as multilanguage since the music was edited in differently depending from the language you will be considering. Some of the music has also different layers that make up the whole track. The Workprint for example. Every dub had its own additions.
Some language has more musical details compared to others, english is the less detailed in my opinion. You might want to check the spanish version for example.
Also, the musical details change accordingly to the version of the movie you will be considering. So if you would like a pretty decent insight inside the atonal music on Leon's Test you might want to skip the Final Cut and head for every other version.
I'm afraid the music is not separate from the dialogue. The effects and spoken parts are all layered together in the 6 channels in most of the cases. You will have to be quite confident with denoisers and the likes to isolate only the music.

The only isolated score to date is the european edition Chariots Of Fire.

It seems the benefits of upsampling old digital sources will remain yet to be heard unless some audiophile addict can successfully hack an untouched PS3 console.
Nevertheless, you will want to check beforehand the only possible outcome of something you have already bought once before.

The Audio Fidelity SACD is Stereo only, but its great!

I might be stupid or something, but isn't an SACD supposed to have better quality? Like in a higher frequency range or something? Not that i'm complaining but i was expecting more of this since it was an SACD rip, but the spectral analysis in Audition doesn't show that much difference to the 1994 release. If there are any differences it might be that it's been remastered and i haven't had the time to compare the both, but as i said, the SACD rip doesn't seem to have much more audio info than the original 1994 release.

:) i would love to be proven wrong though, if anyone care to explain what it is that i'm missing :)

No, you're not! :) As it was already pointed out a couple of posts above there cannot possibly be that difference. I too compared the waveforms in Soundforge and sonically speaking they looked the same.

SACD - Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SACD)

On the SACD there are two layers. The more common standard cd layer and the SACD layer. What viola_2003 has kindly posted is the only layer accessible with any ripping software on a standard computer. The cd layer.

Typically on a SACD there is more definition (read a larger number of bytes) to describe the sound (up to 4 times compared to red book cd's), so what you will be hearing it will sound more open and present compared to standard cd quality.

Though the standard cd quality can be theoretically doubled by interpolating/doubling the informations in the waveform (upsampling has its benefit I'm afraid) it cannot reach the quality of a tranfer of a better source with more definition used in the first place.
SACD's have a wider frequency and dynamic range than conventional CDs.

But not many people will notice the difference unless sitting on their own in a decent room with a proper hi-end/esoteric stereo setup anyway.
If you happen to be married with children that will be even trickier. :)

I always create a DSD (Direct Stream Digital) file for SACD (Meitner ADC8 to Tascam DV-RA1000HD) and then it goes to Gus Skinas at The Super Audio Center in Boulder for the editing and final assembly. No audio changes occur. But, he [Gus] creates the CD layer from the DSD file. Sorry, but I don’t know what process that actually involves. So the CD layer is from my master, definitely not the old CD, but that’s all I know.

We A/B’d the source we received to both the US and European CD, and the digital source we got from Warner Bros, and what we used blew them all away. I’m very pleased with the results..

As far as to ripping any SACD to file it is not going to be easy. Though I could hack the output of the SACD into the soundcard the result will come out too huge to handle the difference. I do have access to a PS3 that was never connected to the net but I think it will be not worth the efforts being what it is.

DSD is 1 floating bit at 2.82mHz, DSD isn’t 24/96 and isn’t easily converted to 96K. But it is 64 X 44.1 so can be easily converted to 44.1 or 88.2.

Kevin Gray always mentioned a 24/88.2 digital file as master for this.

It might sound exactly as the 1994 release at first, but it just a new transfer from the same masters used for the 1994 edition.
If everything was handled on a DAT there will be no difference except the more effective/transparent touch of the new converters and hardware used to warm up the signal, and that might have been top class being mastered by Kevin Gray at Cohearent Audio. If they were handled the master tape the only difference will have to be again the new hardware used (new converters do sound less squared compared to the previos generation of converters) to achieve that and more definition on the audio material.
Whatever the master might have been taken from, the result is what you'll be hearing on the SACD layer.
And there's no denying it. :)

It sounds great. The SACD sounds smooth and effortless, very dynamic. The CD layer sounds great as well, although I'm not noticing huge differences with the original 1994 CD. This isn't to condemn the new CD layer as the original 1994 CD was pretty damned good in the first place. More A/Bing will probably reveal more.

Downloading the Flac & cover link provides some odd files that do not resemble FLAC files... also, the download is very fast.

So I do not understand this offering at all.

Some did understand the offering at least. Sorry. My fault, mate.

Thanks to Calidoran & oknihcap1 for making it as clear as it was supposed to be and to DC for adding the extra artwork. :)

As far as to ripping any SACD to file it is not going to be easy. Though I could hack the output of the SACD into the soundcard the result will come out too huge to handle the difference. I do have access to a PS3 that was never connected to the net but I think it will be not worth the efforts being what it is.

I found this link if you are willing to read a little something about ripping SACDs with the help of PS3s ;)

I think you'll be the first then! ;)

Still I have to capacitate over the benefit of a 4 gb's file that will end up being listened to via computer speakers or not appropriate hi-fi systems in a not suitable ambient. However, this will not sound as good as the original SACD.
Only the newer generation of speakers and amplifiers, are capable of addressing all the clarity of a SACD theoretically... not to mention really expensive headphones if you managed not to screw your hearing with iPod's or the loudest clubbing policies!

It is too early to catch this new technology and soon or later it will be available as DSD digital download anyway. Something software based might come out in the near future to back up SACD's. It took me years before being able to rip my AKAI discs back in the days.

SACD audio streams are encoded in a pulse-density modulation (PDM) scheme called Direct Stream Digital (DSD).
That is the closest match to analog so far and if this takes place the revolution will cut out a lot of things out there.

Direct Stream Digital - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Direct_Stream_Digital)

Also when listened via computer it will spoil all the fun even if decoded on the fly by foobar2000.

Could someone with advanced audio skills provide a PCM file from the raw DSD file in case?

DSD audio architecture is way too different from PCM as we are used to. That will end up in a huge waste of bandwidth for the upload and something too big to be handled by common mortal equipment... unless you have access to esoteric stuff I mean.
Though I am halfway there I still think it will be useless. The raw DSD will be enough if mr_merrick has access to a PS3 with the right firmware.

FLAC won't play at such high resolution. WavePack might eventually do the job.

There is most certainly no need to convert with the full 2.8MHz sample rate. It can be much, much lower. The noise floor with SACD is not constant, it rises with frequency:

In fact, the noise can actually be worse above 10kHz on an SACD compared to a CD, but not by much.
I would still love to have the raw DSD source. So, mr_merrick, if you're out there, it would be awesome if you could post it.

In fact, the noise can actually be worse above 10kHz on an SACD compared to a CD, but not by much.

It is not the 2.8MHz sample rate (64 times the CD Audio sampling rate of 44.1 kHz, but only at 1⁄16th its 16-bit resolution) that worries me. It is the fact that a 24-bit/88.2 kHz file has been turned into 2.8MHz file.

It "feels" like burning a bunch of mp3's on cd and pretending it will sound better because it's on cd now.
It will sound slighty better because of the interpolation from 128 or 320 kbps to 1411 kbps but I'd rather stick to the original 128 or 320 kbps without wasting a cd and plugging any MP3 capable player with a dedicated line-out straight into the amplifier.

What they did was simply using the latest hi-tech hardware to accomplish a new transfer and then worked on it at the same sample rate they got it. They never left the PCM domain until the encoding stage. The hardware they used for production is PCM based.
It was just encoded into DSD for the SACD layer because that is the target marketing. It could have stayed into the DVD-Audio domain but it was chosen to use the DSD format.

Both Ogg and Wma files are clearly better than mp3's... but we are still using mp3's.

While the difference is actually "felt" when you are releasing a 5.1 DSD layer on the SACD which has been recorded (or restored) in high resolution and mixed (or remixed) from an original multitrack recording... on this the benefit won't be "felt" that much.

It would make more sense a transfer of the original multitrack quad-mixes used for the workprint for example.
Now that will definitely benefit from the DSD approach. :)

Starting to get a grip on the new DSD swindle... that is the thing we need to "feel" perhaps.

Sorry Zoran, too much infos this time! ;)

Just to clarify:

1. DSD ripped from SACD via PS3
2. DSD to 24bit-88.2kHz PCM (0dB Gain) using Weiss Saracon
3. PCM Dynamic Range Tested in Foobar 2000
4. Step 2 repeated with clipping-free gain applied to match the SACD level
5. PCM Batch compressed and trimmed to FLAC
6. Tags applied with MP3Tag
7. Artwork scans included from previous release

Guilli: Hola Pendor, cmo ests, cmo te va?

Reza el disco digital en su cara superior: "Mastered for this SACD by Kevin Gray at (in-)Coherent Audio".

She is the one who likes the Pope anyway! :)

The not-even-handsome hacker, a bit worn out by a couple of parties and still unsure to go at the one tonight, is keeping her company sipping yet another double-malt beer... he hasn't really stopped matter of fact... and he is still uncertain if the buildings sitting on front of them are sort of oblique... or it is him to still see things that way after a trip to the smart shop a couple of days ago...

We have to admit the dutch have it proper on the architectural side of things... Let's hope the Blade Runner frame won't be oblique as well back home!

That's for badwisdom and Calidoran of course! ;)

I had my suspicions when I downloaded the vinyl rip, but this is the final proof I needed. The source for the SACD and vinyl rip is the 1994 CD. Draw your own conclusions about the people participating in this project.

A few years ago I analyzed (rather meticulously) several "jobs" of these people, yes, the "company" calling itself "Audio Fidelity".

The conclusion was unequivocal: TRASH, ALL OF ITS JOB, BOTH THE AUDIO AND THE GRAPHICS. These criminals don't have access to any "master", their sources are simple and common CD's where they get the audio, that's obvious, but also, nor they have the original and clean artworks (covers), so they only scan (very bad) and erase/remove the writings/original fonts (done even worse than the scans) and then place their writings over.

They are CRIMINALS and SWINDLERS. I warned about all of this several friends (one of them posts on this forum), but even so, some have chosen to buy such crap work, of course I mean the crap 2013 vinyl & Hybrid SACD.

I repeat, summing up: the source of all this crap is a regular CD (and even in this they haven't been careful to select a front cover that should have been centered, and without cutting the "B"- on the title "BLADE RUNNER". There's nothing even close to DAT as master, lying and more lying!

As for the work on the audio, it is very funny to read "reviews", "analysis" and comments about the "very great" quality of the "remastering". The final sound is DREADFUL with a terrible distortion level, very, very unpleasant.

Kevin Gray, in addition to swindler and criminal (and a liar) is really dumb hearing, very, very much! And, it seems he has learned nothing from a true master like Steve Hoffman. Kevin Gray made this "remaster" applying just a couple of plugins and EQ (and badly, in a horrible way).

We could say that these Blade Runner 2013 releases (vinyl & SACD) are 100% bootlegs, but with a "small detail": those who made it are profiting from them, filling their pocket$ (lying and cheating their customers is just a "bonus ").

If Vangelis and Frederick Rousseau, have already learnt and listened to this terrible work, should feel really bad.http://www.zarqdag.net/masters/hihi.gif

And we continue with other details...

In the foreground we can see the vinyl BOOTLEGS, very defective pressing and which will play poorly...
In the background there are those others not so defective and that will play just as poorly ... if not worse ...
(On the vinyl pressing machine there isn't much to add, just that it was useless when the last LP of Elvis was pressed in the 70s)

Here there's part of the "high-tech and high resolution equipment", used for the "remastering" ...

A "Spectrum Analyzer" as precise and accurate in resolution as could be assembled by a teenager with Elektor magazine in his hands, hallucinating!

Those who acquired the hybrid SACD would be free of guilt but those that in the XXI century purchased the vinyl... they have really deserved it...

Shame on me... :(

The neighbour liked the Pope picture and asked if she could have it. So I needed something the fill in the visual gap on the wall and thought that the vinyl artwork would look nice in the frame! ;)

Oh, and she also paid for that believe it or not! :)

Today I had the opportunity to make a very pleasant interview to Pendor (another semi-criminal hacker, but at least not profiting financially with their rubbish) ...

Guilli: Hello Pendor, How are you doing, how are you?
Pendor: It's not something that should be your business.
Guilli: Now that the Pope is argentine, will you travel to Italy?
Pendor: It is none of your business, but I'll answer just to make him feel worse. No, I will not travel to Italy for the time being. Francisco works for a corrupt State, and which is also based on millenary childish lies, plus I don't like him much, he is argentine and I don't like them either. If I will have to travel to Italy I would do that for two reasons: first, to give a kick in the ass to a friend for having collaborated- purchasing both vinyl & SACD- with a company breaking the law by means of producing "audiophile" material, known as Audio Fidelity. The second reason for my visit to the boot-shaped country, would be to modify an Apogee Rosetta with balanced analog inputs and outputs.
Guilli: Okay Pendor, thank you very much for your time and great sympathy.
Pendor: That will be $2000.- or... Do you have any sister... or cousin?

I bought this new SACD myself too. But if I understand correctly, it's nothing more than some kind of 'fake'???
Shame on Audio Fidelity and everyone connected with it!

The Hybrid SACD is not "fake", it's worse ... is a non-multichannel SACD and no-high resolution. That is, absolute nonsense (well, actually the only sense it has is having generated money, very little money). The digital disc on the top side reads, "Mastered for this SACD by Kevin Gray at (in-)Coherent Audio".
On the vinyl, what can I say?! Already in itself the format is obsolete junk, also, if we add the awful audio quality "remastered" by Audio Fidelity, we have neither more nor less than an "aural bomb". EVERYBODY GET DOWN AND EARS WELL SHUT!

Atlantic Records, are you aware and informed about all of this crap by Audio Fidelity?
Undoubtedly, the physical audio industry is dead as a doornail ... and they have well deserved to be so!

Guilli is back with a vengeance it seems! ;)

BENEFICIAN SIN LUGAR A DUDAS... obviamente, claro...

Alright.

I stepped into this soundtrack's oblivion, not knowing what awaited me.
Dunno yet if that's thrill or despair I feel, maybe a subtle mix of the two.

Anyway, being a completist, this is as close to a nightmare as I have ever been in, music-wise.
I have created an ffshrine account last week, since then I have extensively read both this thread and the "Ultimate" one (although I subscribe to the idea that this one is even more ultimate because, well, lossless is the only way to go), as well as a few others in other places.

Of course I'm about swamped in the multiplicity of choices, but I do think I'm slowly managing to emerge.
As far as consensus goes, seems like DC's 29th Anniversary is a good compromise for the beginner.
I also gathered that earlier recordings -bootleg ones anyway- are more of a historical purpose than anything else, their audio quality being below fan-made material. That's very fine with me, or would be, except for the sake of completism as mentioned above.

I am into role-playing games, so my interest may even extend so far as FX and sounds-related works, such as Los Angeles, November 2019 but that's not quite sure yet.

For now, I have settled on the 29th Anniversary (Limited Edition) and I'm still struggling to isolate duplicates between this album and that.
Also, in my understanding, both Esper 'retirement' edition and the most recent 30th Anniversary's vinyl and SACD are a big "no-no" from audiophiles.

That's for things I have (or think I have) understood.
Now on a not entirely unrelated note, what I'm still unsure of is whether I should keep previously user-prefered versions such as the ultimate EMS recombination or beloved 2019 edition.
Those seem, at first sight anyway, pretty much redundant with 29th Anniversary, albeit slightly different.
Still pondering if the extra disk space is worth their respective added value.
Not to mention the other 10 ones (including official releases)...

Then again, I went so far into the business as to consider keeping them all and gathering every single piece of work I can find, relating to this wonderful movie.
But that's definitely the collector speaking...

What all this gibberish boils down to is : thank you all. Both for the files themselves and the huge remastering/compiling work, indeed, but also for the historian's and librarian's tasks accomplished.
I wonder if a comprehensive summary could be achieved, since I find the existing posts (those at the beginning of each thread, that is) far too much complicated and yet very frustrating (for lack of more information) at the same time, but this is probably as close as it gets.

I keep on listening, trying to make my own choices, but any pointers from you guys are much welcome.

Cheers from France

Just when I thought I have seen it all!!!

Blade Runner Aventures (http://www.heliskiworld.com/sito/inglese/why.html)

LaCie Blade Runner (http://www.lacie.com/products/product.htm?id=10613)

I've already asked father Xmas to get me "that" custom tailored... and modded obviously! ;)

As far as consensus goes, seems like DC's 29th Anniversary is a good compromise for the beginner.

Well, it was meant to be a sum of whatever it was done to date. At least how most of us would have liked it on the completist side of things. It was just a deeper approach after the EMS was conceived.

For now, I have settled on the 29th Anniversary (Limited Edition) and I'm still struggling to isolate duplicates between this album and that.

The EMS was meant as a "Best Of" every other boot out there so far.
The 29th Anniversary inadvertently ended up being a companion disc to the official Trilogy somehow. What was missing (and we had) was added there.

Also, in my understanding, both Esper 'retirement' edition and the most recent 30th Anniversary's vinyl and SACD are a big "no-no" from audiophiles.

I don't know what went wrong with the production of the Esper Retirement Edition, they seemed to have the resources to make it proper, but it totally slept off their hands with the dutch bootleggers bootlegging the original bootleg and selling it along the original boot on eBay shortly after.
What we got out of the financial take of the Retirement was a partially maimed disc one and everything with inverted phase, a butcher-like edit of the Los Angeles 2019 album, a dj mix album... plus a rip off of what two members of this forums were still working on at the time.
It went straight into the 4th disc though none of them was never involved with the whole thing. Pendor made a very fine job in making it proper. It is more likely that you stumble upon the version Pendor fixed than the original discs... :)
The 30th Anniversary's edition... quite the audiophile swindle as you could read.

... what I'm still unsure of is whether I should keep previously user-prefered versions such as the ultimate EMS recombination or beloved 2019 edition.
Those seem, at first sight anyway, pretty much redundant with 29th Anniversary, albeit slightly different.
Still pondering if the extra disk space is worth their respective added value.

Do keep all of them! You might also invest on one of the HD's in the link above!! ;)

Thanks on behalf of everyone involved! :)

And yes. There is a comprehensive summary still lying around the computers waiting for the right time to pop up on these pages... Incidentally the right time seems to be only the spare time I might get in the next year ...hopefully...

What this thread REALLY needs is the 1990 DAT tape that spawned that "Esper Edition" nonsense ;)

Yup!! That will be the isolated score then!
I would personally be content with what has never leaked out of the Outtakes... I've been talking father Xmas about that... let's keep our fingers crossed! :)

And maybe that precious "Blade Runner - Cliffhanger and Radio Plays" AND "Blade Runner - FIC. version [Director's Cut without dialog]".

PS: The Blade Runner - Cliffhanger and Radio Plays (http://www.anunna.net/vangelis-rarities/newsite.php?methode=methode1&id=147) might just be a rip of Mmoires 5 if I remember correctly. I used to have a partial rip of that but at very low quality. It might have been also edited out the Esper Edition (which used the same source as a matter of fact)...

Though I was able to recreate the whole Esper in full lossless glory (since inexplicably some noted cues from the 1994 edition were taken from lossy sources and are frame by frame identical except for an added/looped note on Blush Response and some clever level enveloping on Love Theme to achieve the needed pace to glue to the previous cue), there are some small bits (seconds really) I just can't tell where they came from. Surely they had access to something else that never made the rounds...

Definitely not.
It's gorgeous indeed, but I'm a NAS user (you now know what this is ;)), and a very happy one.
I might upgrade said NAS quite soon, since I started with "meh" hardware to find out whether this kind of storage fitted my habits, and it sure does.
I'll most probably never go back to anything else.
It's reliable (provided you go for mirrored disks, of course) and, if capable, it can remain satisfactory speed-wise (with 3 disks and above, you can combine RAID 0 -striping- and RAID 1 -mirroring- in RAID 5 or RAID 10, thus achieving both redundancy and performance). I mean to buy such a device, and that'll be it for some years (apart from internal HD replacement once in a while, maybe).
The red Coca-Cola bearded man should bring me this little baby :
Amazon.com: Synology America DiskStation 4-Bay Diskless Network Attached Storage (DS414): Computers & Accessories (http://www.amazon.com/Synology-DiskStation-Diskless-Attached-DS414/dp/B00G4CIPHS/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1386071323&sr=8-1&keywords=ds414)

I lost all my data in 1999, and promised myself it would not happen again. It has not, and won't, especially not for esthetical reasons :-P
Having ~300 GB of music alone, I intend on not having to go through encoding/finding it all again, not to mention tagging/renaming it.

(Sorry for this quick off-topic nonsense)

I think I'll follow your advice and keep what I've got, and start looking for what I haven't yet found.
*takes a deep breath*

“This concert version the Blade Runner soundtrack is an orchestral tribute to the sci-fi noir classic originally created by Vangelis. The Heritage Orchestra were first invited by the Southbank Centre and Massive Attack to create a performance of this music for the Meltdown Festival 2008 at the Royal Festival Hall. More recently it has been developed with new additional orchestrations by Tom Trapp, and new visuals by Matt Watkins for the Vivid LIVE festival at the Sydney Opera House where it received rave reviews.

It is the first time a live cover version of Vangelis' classic soundtrack as a live orchestral concert has been produced and the Heritage Orchestra's version has been hailed a triumph by the UK and Australian press.

The global appeal of Vangelis' evocative and haunting score, combined with the cult following of Ridley Scott's film, and the unique musical approach of the Heritage Orchestra makes this a unique event for concert halls and large venues with a capacity of 1500+.

The sound is created with a minimum 30-piece orchestra that combines strings, synthesizers, sound effects, percussion, singers and instrumental soloists.

The performance does not involve a screening of the film, but features an evocative lighting and visual projections. Once combined with the live score, the effect is to immerse the audience in a sonic and visual experience that transports them into the dark and atmospheric world of Blade Runner.

Blade Runner Replica is a truly unique orchestral production exclusively available through Flying Giant. It is an unofficial tribute to the original soundtrack and does not feature Vangelis.”

“The smoky, futuristic world of Ridley Scott’s Blade Runner was brought viscerally to life last night at London’s Royal Festival Hall. One of the more intriguing programme additions at this year’s ‘Meltdown Festival’, this live performance of ‘Vangelis’ Soundtrack to Blade Runner’ attracted quite a crowd. Those who took the plunge and came along to the event were treated to a stunning display of musical performance by the Heritage Orchestra who faithfully recreated, with live mixing by festival curators Massive Attack, the music of the original soundtrack album – minus the dialogue.

Even before the concert-proper commenced, we were immersed in the performance space; dark, shadowy and billowing smoke, we knew this wasn’t to be your average concert experience. On a screen overhead archive images of Vangelis working on the score in his studio were cut together with footage from the film, while the air around us was permeated with drones and heartbeat effects, the room felt as though it were living. Gradually performers began to take their seats on the shadowy stage, and all of a sudden the performance began without fanfare or introduction; in fact the sounds we’d been hearing as we waited were the introduction.

From the heart-pounding tympani rolls that pre-empted the ‘Main Titles’, I knew that this was going to be something special and indeed not your average film music concert, nor your average orchestra. Everything about it was unconventional, apt considering Vangelis’ approach to scoring films and the resulting music. The strings (which, while live, were treated in the mix and sounded otherworldly), harp and piano were positioned at the rear of the stage, seemingly in darkness; while the percussionists, synthesists and alike performed along the front. It was an unusual set-up; however, the latter group played such an integral role in the piece that their positioning front and centre meant you could really see that all the Vangelis-like nuances were real and performed. Among the shadows, before slatted panels that glittered with clusters of light and numbers, the ensemble worked as one; a breathing musical organism creating wonderful sounds, sounds that at times hit you between the eyes, dived into your soul and burned themselves on your memory.

It’s difficult to pluck highlights from the gapless performance; however the solo performances by Janey Miller on Oboe d’amoure and Tom Richards on Alto Sax were very special. The latter of course shone in ‘Love Theme’, the most recognisable piece for the unfamiliar, and the first to elicit applause (very difficult to know when to clap when there are few definitive breaks in the music!). More applause came for the vocal numbers, with Guy Garvey performing ‘One More Kiss, Dear’ (always an amusing, though enjoyable, adjunct to the rest of the music), while Vashti Bunyan and Omar Ebrahim provided wonderfully earthy and ethereal vocals in ‘Rachel’s Song’ and ‘Tales of the Future’ respectively – highlights both.

The ‘Blade Runner (End Titles)’ came round all too quickly, though it was a barnstorming performance, and one of my favourite Vangelis compositions, which garnered a decidedly riotous response from the crowd. With the sound of falling rain came of course ‘Tears in the Rain’ and a return to the chilled, twinkling soulfulness of all that came before. The audience went wild, bows were taken and ‘more’ was cried for… but no more came. We didn’t really know what to expect upon going in, but in the end it absolutely did what it said on the tin – an hour (ish) of some of the most visceral film music, by one of the idiom’s most identifiable voices. It was perhaps all too short (I could have gone for another half hour at least!), but the performance was so intricately orchestrated – indeed those performers at the front spent the entire time running from one instrument to the next to hit their points – it was perhaps all they could muster. Blade Runner has been done on stage before, but I don’t think any of those interpretations would stand up to what took place at Meltdown last night; it was simply extraordinary – Vangelis would have been proud.”

Michael Beek / Music from the Movies (June 2008)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

'Tonight is a bit of an experiment,' explains Massive Attack's Robert Del Naja, visibly nervous during the opening performance of the Meltdown festival. 'It's about making it up as we go along.' Taking risks is part of Meltdown's ethos and though the curators don't spring any radical surprises - their new material shares the mood of 1998's Mezzanine, evoking the onset of a very tasteful paranoia attack - nor do they deliver a greatest hits set.

Having fulfilled their 'contractual obligations' (the enduringly gorgeous 'Unfinished Sympathy'), they finish with a dense and atmospheric new song 'Dobro', Del Naja's crisp whisper set to keyboards and acoustic guitar. It bodes well for a chilly future.

Three nights later, Del Naja looks more comfortable, lurking behind the mixing desk as the Heritage Orchestra perform Vangelis's classic soundtrack to Blade Runner, newly re-scored from the original keyboard parts. The Greek composer's music invites a certain pretentiousness from audience and performers alike, and tonight has the feel of what beatniks used to describe as 'a happening'. The air in the Festival Hall is thick with incense, Damon Albarn and Aphex Twin are in attendance, and two men leak water into a miked-up plastic box to create the sound of rainfall as we take our seats.

But where the Heritage Orchestra succeed brilliantly is in embracing the more esoteric elements of the work without compromising its rich, haunting atmosphere. As four percussionists tinker away like mad professors - one bowing something that looks like a 16th-century nautical instrument, another coaxing great swirling gusts of sound from a wind machine - the soundtrack's more familiar moments take on new life.

The sultry saxophone part of the famous 'Love Theme' induces a flood of serotonin-like warmth. The wordless vocals of 'Rachel's Song', delivered by Vashti Bunyan, are beautifully understated. And baritone Omar Ebrahim produces a series of startling throaty tics on 'Tales of the Future', as the score draws towards its close. The Heritage Orchestra's great achievement is to put flesh on the bones of a score so otherworldly.

Ally Carnwath / The Observer

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

“This evening is a performance of Vangelis' score for the film Blade Runner. Although it includes visual elements it does not include a screening or footage from the film.

A part-electronic, part-symphonic spectacle described as 'jaw-dropping' (Time Out London), Vivid LIVE presents the Australian debut of the 45-piece Heritage Orchestra – performing Blade Runner's retro-futuristic score in a stunning visual backdrop engulfed by the film's signature, dystopian ambiance.

A chart-topping soundtrack that took a decade to release, was rumoured to exist in 20 different versions and won a reputation as influential and mythical as its cinema counterpart – Vangelis' synthetic and symphonic response to Ridley Scott's 1982 cult classic has become a masterpiece in its own right. Cementing the Greek composer's status as a genius of electronic music, the maestro himself finally blessed a live reinterpretation of the score after 30 years laying dormant – a momentous occasion rapturously received as part of the Southbank Centre’s Meltdown Festival in 2008.

From signature motifs such as 'Love Theme's' haunting saxophone solo and Mary Hopkin's angelic vocals on 'Rachel's Song' to the starkly romantic synthesizers of 'Blade Runner Blues', Vangelis' score has proved an enduring influence to the electronic vanguard, the latest of which includes Los Angeles progressive beat-maker Flying Lotus. Now making its Australian premiere at Vivid LIVE, the Heritage Orchestra will once again illuminate a score that has transcended its troubled past into something truly mythical.”

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

“In 2008 the orchestra took every experience it had and put it to use on the first ever live orchestral reinterpretation of Vangelis' soundtrack to Blade Runner. What was once an electronic score, created entirely on synthesisers by Vangelis, was orchestrated and brought to life for Massive Attack's Meltdown Festival at the Royal Festival Hall with guest vocalists Guy Garvey, Vashti Bunyan, and Omar Ebrahim.

Led by orchestral producer Chris Wheeler, plus a crack team of orchestrators, fastidious synthesiser programmers, technical crew, and visuals from the United Visual Artists, the show was a groundbreaking success, and a highlight of the festival.

“The smoky, futuristic world of Ridley Scott’s Blade Runner was brought viscerally to life... a stunning display of musical performance by the Heritage Orchestra... “…where the Heritage Orchestra succeed brilliantly is in embracing the more esoteric elements of the work without compromising its rich, haunting atmosphere. The Heritage Orchestra’s great achievement is to put flesh on the bones of a score so otherworldly” – The Observer (Ally Carnwath)

http://www.theheritageorchestra.com

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

“The film score to Ridley Scott's 1982 classic Blade Runner was always more than a fanfare for Harrison Ford's on-screen heroics. Eerie and ambient, Vangelis's soundtrack stood alone as a beautiful piece of work.

Rightly so, then, that the Royal Festival Hall was packed on the fourth night of the Meltdown festival to hear the Heritage Orchestra's rendering of the Greek composer's masterpiece, as mixed by curators Massive Attack.

Rumbling percussion and rising strings evoked the film's nightmarish vision of a dystopian future. Damon Albarn, who was among the spellbound audience, must have been smiling knowingly at this kingdom of doom.

He may even have tapped his foot, as drums and electric bass entered the mix. In its eerie groove, it was easy to see why Vangelis's score has been cited as the precursor to trip-hop - the downbeat electronic music made famous by Massive Attack in the early Nineties.

Attention flittered during the sparser moments of the evening, as one remembered that part of Blade Runner's appeal came from its script as well as its score. For the main part, though, the music was more than enough. The film' s most famous track, The Love Theme - to which Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford) and Rachael (Sean Young) put their genetic differences aside for a night of human/replicant love - was a smouldering soundscape of warm bass and wailing saxophone.

Few could describe Guy Garvey as smouldering but Elbow's burly frontman didcroon beautifully over the jazzy skip of One More Kiss, Dear. If his band keep underachieving, a glittering career on the jazz circuit may yet beckon. He'd have to tuck in his shirt, mind.

More than shirts were flailing for Blade Runner (End Titles), as conductor Jules Buckley led his troops to a triumphant finale with a flurry of arm movements that wouldn't have been out of place at one of Massive Attack's live shows.

As the Heritage Orchestra bowed as one, the crowd applauded what they had seen: five-star, on-stage heroics.”

Well... the makers certainly happen to like "those versions" (because there's "more than one") more than "their original counterparts" (best referred as the "original sources")... if the originals would have not needed changes at all they would have not gone into the nightmare of fixing the hell out of it... make up your mind on that...

If you ask me I'll say that the best version is the original 7 minutes mix on the composer's reels... and that's not there unfortunately! :)

This is just to show part of a situation, that not everything they sell as gold... is actually "24K Gold" .

Again, it is well known that good advertisement for a lousy and nefarious product (Audio Fidelity's Vinyl & SACD) sells and convinces without qualitative efforts.

Something similar happens with the Hi-End audio, in which the client is "hypnotized" in various visual and psychological ways, into believing that "luxury" is synonymous with sound quality when, in so many cases can be easily demonstrated that many electronic devices touting stratospheric price and promising a "different sound" and "true fidelity" do really offer a striking difference: WORST sOUND AND NON-FIDELITY TO THE ORIGINAL.

Connectors and "magic" cables, valves or vacuum tubes, turntables-cartridges-needles-vinyls, "special" operational amplifiers (OP-AMPS), etc etc up to "scientific" acoustic decoupling cones/bases or spikes for electronics and cabinets or acoustic speakers... WILL UNQUESTIONABLY BENEFIT... obviously, clearly... THE MANUFACTURER/SELLER!!!

And it is proved, again, that the average human is really very... but very... deaf and, in the same vein, those who hear "something" do like and appreciate lot of... plenty... generous... very generous amount of distortion/s and noise/s. This is the resulting conclusion after reading some of the many reviews and opinions praising and lifting to the sky the level and quality of lousy, nefarious and deceitful "work" by Kevin Gray.

That is exactly what has offered Audio Fidelity and its "remaster" in "hi-definition" run by CRIMINALS AND SCAMMERS Kevin Gray & Co.: PATHS FOR WASTE OF CORRESPONDENT NUMBER (AND MORE) REFERRED TO AND VINYL & SACDs, "REMASTERS" THAT ONLY BRING DISTORTIONS AND NOISE (the limited bandwidth to a common CD is already full knowledge -and this is the great great great great lies and scams of the "enterprise" Audio Fidelity-).

Again, the only "winners" of all this pantomime are the manufacturers/sellers, one of the audio world's shame: audio fidelity (just like that, everything in lowercase, to testify how small they were and they are and, non-existent they will become) .

And when all this shit "released" by audio fidelity will be no more than an anecdotal memory and synonymous with "bad smell" (and taste), will continue to enjoy full life the ORIGINAL 1994 work created by Vangelis & Frederick Rousseau (and his staff, obviously) that, while not perfect and far from what should be a real original "Blade Runner Soundtrack", complete, and definitive, is, so far (and for a long time) the best we will have ("the less bad", a perfectionist would say) [NOTE: The 2007 Trilogy contributed little something more, but little or nothing].

Today, while on a pilgrimage to an unlikely-dystopian Vatican City I had a chance to confere with the Pope. ;)

If you manage to smug one of those Voight Kampff machines they keep segregated along with alien artifacts in the american desert (it wasn't me to say that of course, you heard it from someone else) you might want to ehnance and pull back and spot me on the far left, behind the guy with that camera-phone!!!

You must know the Holy Pope, as Guilli, is a Blade Runner aficionado too! He would not comment on the Audio Fidelity affair, but he kindly shared his opinions on the actual movie. :)

He said: "Unlike the parable in the bible when the prodigal son returns, Batty is not at all welcome. Human and replicant are alike in their quest to touch divinity.
Unfortunately humans gave up their quest with all the consequences of them losing their faith did imply.
Humanity has been dragged downwards and devalued, and Batty's development of emphatic response somehow leads to Deckard's recovery of such a response.
Only the last replicant seem to have a sense of mercy left in him unlike the cinical blade runner chasing him and what has feeling is ultimately human."

Then the pope had some kind words towards the sinner named Pendor: Door is always open for the sheep who get lost. ;)

If I wanted to start down the long and winding road of making an isolated score track, which version would serve me best? Esper Retirement? Recombination? Final Mix?

The Esper Retirement editon is based on Mmoires 5 so I would surely skip that. All the needed bits off the EMS recombination were used for the 29th Anniversary, so I'd start down the latter.
The Final Mix was based off the Trilogy edition. The very same "reasoning" was applied also to the 29th Annyversary anyway.

If you would really like to go through the AC/DC Highway to Hell long and winding road, then you should start to line in synchronization Mmoires 5 to the PAL version of the audio (or time stretch Mmoires 5 to 104% if you would like to retain the original NTSC speed of the movie and line that to the Blu-Ray---which is the better source out there---) and then add the needed bits off the 29th Anniversary Edition (some cues might need the usual 104% time stretching treatment most likely).

Assuming you will definitely opt for the Blu-Ray mix of the 5.1 audio (some needed bits might still be hidden there though most of them were already isolated for the 29th Annyversary) then you're done.
Obviously you might want to isolate some of those bits by yourself to retain a better flow with the 5.1 audio. You might not need to upsample the 29th Anniversary sources at all in such case (e.g. iZotope RX)...
Do not attempt to downmix anything until the very last step of the project. Make sure you use a proper resampling algorithm to upsample Mmoires 5 and the 29th Anniversary to the Blu-Ray resolution and bit depth.
Take care of the phase cancellation issues that might pop up occasionally when using both front and rear channels.

A proper Mmoires 5 time stretching algorithm might take up to a whole day (e.g. Steinberg WaveLab)... and once you are at it I would personally export to 48 kHz when matching the eq (e.g. iZotope Ozone) of the 5.1 audio to give the audio more frames for the software to make its adjustments before going into the time stretching process.

I'd personally use the Director's Cut or the International Cut version since on The Final Cut all the possible tampering was done to add the extra bits. There might be a problem with the shared parts of the audio of the Theatrical, International and Director's Cut depending which version you will be using, so do be careful when comparing the different versions. Some have simply repetitions in place of the referenced audio for those scenes that differ in the different versions.
They might have fixed that glitch on the latest 30th Anniversary edition though... or the ripping software might have been updated to cope with that...
You should use The Criterion version in reference to what should be used for the restored bits to the Director's Cut since some parts of the audio were not so effectively aligned for the 1992 version. The video stream was obviously given the proper priority and they could only use what they already had for the editing, and the more complete version was what ended up in the Criterion laserdisc. I still prefer the 1992 version for the Batty chase sequence for example.

All you need now is the very best software engines out there, plenty of experience with them... and plenty of spare time! We wish you the very best of luck! :)

FanTAStic advice. EXACTLY what I needed, from the man himself. I expect this will take months to do properly. Since the music was not mixed in surround sound, I want my isolated score track to be in stereo. Imagine that: a quadrophonic mix that was never released. Ever since listening to Alan Parson's leaked quadrophonic mix of "Dark Side of the Moon" in 24bit/96kHz against "Wizard of Oz", I am convinced surround sound is the way to mix music.

I've attempted extracting, cutting/remixing from 5.1 stems to get a decent mix of an unreleased song from the movie "Cypher" in Pro Tools. It. Was. Hard. I have much respect for you and your ilk. BTW, I read the story behind the 29th Anniversary edition late into the night as I was pondering this project. I can't 1up you, but I can say I don't even have a cell phone right now.

I plan on using either Pro Tools or Logic to mix to picture. As my sync, I plan on using the BluRay audio [Final Cut] from the 25th anniversary mix-but only as a guide. Pro Tools' upsampling engine has always worked great for me. What are your thoughts? I have some beyer-dynamics DT-880s cans with a decent 24/96 DAC/headphone amp hooked to my Mac Book Pro. I plan on working at 48kHz.

Thanks for mentioning RX. I do plan on using Ozone on the mastering pass.

I'll post some preliminary mixes for feedback.

The studio uses Pro Tools and sometimes Logic... but I do not particularly like both resampling engines... and I am not the only one. Have a look at these SRC Comparisons (http://src.infinitewave.ca/) and you'll see/hear what I am meaning.
Logic has/had some sync issues and it tends to loose syncronization between tracks after a large number of automations and effect sends... They might have fixed that in the newer builds... but I'd go for a safer Pro Tools option on such regard.

I strongly suspect you are on a MAC but you should be able to use r8brain PRO via BootCamp or the likes. That is the best out there. It takes double to resample, not that you'll be in a rush, but you'll appreciate the outcome. :)

I would use the Final Cut only to add the Qu'ran bit most likely... but do as you see fit. The Final Cut is brighter than the archival versions... so Mmoires 5 will be less bright and you'll be having an extra thing to cope with in that case.

For the sake of avoiding 10 different versions of the same file ending on eBay as rare workprints you might want to use PM's to send preview links to the persons you want to evaluate your work. I trust you got the message! ;)
As you might have glimpsed I'm not particularly fond of mobile phones, so feel free to send a PM for the technical bits you might need in case!

Quadrophonic mix... on the Workprint there are bits survived to the final stereo purge if you are interested in that... I am not sure about making it quadrophonic... Every useable bit was already mixed in stereo and unless you want to extract the efx out the Westwood game and add that to the stereo mix as a bonus...

I don't know. It does sound a bit difficult... If you succeed you'll definitely get a living in Hollywood surrounded by glamour models and wannabe stars-to-be! :)

The 29th Anniversary contains a bit of everything Blade Runner on the not-so-official side of the matter... the 30th Anniversary contains the official take on the matter as in the 1994 edition.
The 37th Anniversary might put the word stop to the matter I'm hoping. :)

As I get it, this 30th anniversary edition has been quite butchered, audio-wise, because of sloppy editing work and what not (I'm not a technical guru that way).
I personally skipped this one when gathering as much material as I could, a few months ago.
I guess in the end, it's up to you listening to the actual score and deciding whether it's worth your disk space.

I am not sure if we were meaning the 25th Anniversary Trilogy edition at this point!

For the people who missed it the first time here's the original concept that predated all Esper releases (though the original Esper got it right anyway...)

Vangelis / Blade Runner (29th Anniversary Limited Edition) [2nd Edition]

( 2012)

An almost equal to the "Original 2011" edition, with minor changes in some tracks, an alternative track and a brand "newly-re-polished " full version of "Blade Runner (End Titles) [Full Length Version]".

Mr. X (http://misterekis.blogspot.com/)

FUNERAL NOTE:
On May 26th at 13:00 hours, Jordan Coast Guard has terminated the search and rescue mission of Pendor, who shipwrecked, just 15 minutes before, in the waters of the "Dead Sea" during the maiden voyage of a sophisticated pedal trimaran. Without having found his remains, authorities declared Pendor officially dead at 13:01 pm the same day, 26th of May.
Family, friends and bootleg sellers on eBay were united in prayer asking to remain in the country to celebrate his funeral.
A local artist, will be sculpting his figure. To achieve that he will use sewage wastes.
Goodbye Pendor, you will always remain in our Cd-libraries! (... only and most likely only until we get something less rubbish)

Unconfirmed sources alleged that the local authorities were fairly busy trying to end an ambiguous bachelor party on the beach. Bachelors also blamed the use of a fairly expensive bottle of champagne to bless the trimaran. The bottle did not break upon contact with the trimaran anyway so they carried partying. A number of traditions and superstitions are associated with it. An old lady that wished not to be named said: I saw it coming. To drown at lunchtime with the costal guards busy with those pink bits on display everywhere. My boy. Poor dear...

We will miss Pendor from the bottom of our hearts... "Pendor Sainthood now!"

Hello All,

Christmas is a time for sharing so here is something special for all you Blade Runner fans. Over the last few months I have been working on a continous mix which capturea the mood and more importantly, the emotion of this modern classic. Working closely with DC (who else?) my original edits have been loving handcrafted using the highest quality available source material to create a single, continous and completely seamless 57 minute mix of music from the film.

*** PLEASE NOTE that there is NO NEW material here, everything is taken solely from "Blade Runner (29th Anniversary Limited Edition)" released in 2011 by DC Music/Pendor.

The end result? Well, I find it to be thoughtful, uplifting and somewhat moving as the musical themes evoke the imagery of the film. The futuristic soundscape moves seamlessly from the busy Los Angeles Streets, to Deckard's meeting with Rachael, through Zhora's (sad) retirement to Roy's enigmatic rooftop monologue.

With 'The Sentient Mix' I have tried to create a subtlely different dimension to the music so that there is something new for Blade Runner fans old and new alike - I hope you like it as much as I do.

At this point I would like to express my gratitude to: -

a) everyone involved in the '29th Anniversary Limited Edition'
b) all of the contributors to the various FFShrine Vangelis & Blade Runner threads
and finally,

c) DC for his invaluable input, assisatnce and encouragement
Thank you all for your inspiration.

EDIT: Sorry! I got it wrong! I'd say that link is gone... https://kickass.so/vangelis-blade-runner-trilogy-25th-anniversary-2007-flac-t2093759.html but from last time I seeded that it might be gone and I do not have access to the original files anymore... the emule search for it is still working anyway... slower but always there. :)
