Comments :
The only copy that made it to us presented several missing frames filled with silence.
We are only left with the hope they did not do that on purpose like some bootleggers seems to operate when dealing with unauthorized releases.
We cannot tell if that was due to poor ripping quality or to a poor quality of the original master, but the only mp3 encode that made it to us presented the very same issues.
Incidentally the sources used for this release are the very same used for the Mmoires serie with a better perceived loudness on the Asian Worlds releases compared to the different tries of the FIC releases and the Deck Art release.
Who copied who is not for us to guess or to care for what it matters.
This release being historically older than every other FIC releases (so we are told) has to be the best guess at an alternate Blade Runner release.
Or at least the first try at isolating some Vangelis cues off the Director's Cut foreign dub DAT tape and the versions on the official cd. What was missing was restored from the same source used for most of the bootleg of the time: the 1992 foreign dub for the non-english speaking countries and the
official 1994 version.

Comments :
In a nutshell‚ this release attempts to do on a single disc what OWM Blade Runner 2000 did with two: take from every Blade Runner source out there. It starts out with Deckard's ESPER monologue‚ taken from the Warner release‚ but then layers in the thundering booms of the Main Titles. There's a bit of incidental music taken from the Deck Music release as well‚ (the lead-in to the "Love Theme" is very well done). Despite some obvious drawbacks‚ I have to say that this is a decent single disc Blade Runner bootleg. Not as effect-driven as the Deck Music and not entirely musically pure like the Gongo and Warner releases. There's a bit of everything‚ and all the major themes are there. Nicely done‚ Asian Worlds.

Here is a perfect example of how to present well-known material in an original way. Almost all of the themes are included here‚ in a complete or shortened form‚ but the listen never gets tedious mainly because it doesn't take longer than 70 minutes. I like very much those themes composed with the add of two‚ like "Hypnotic Skyline: Blush Response"‚ "Blade Runner Blues: Deckard's Dream" and "Among the Menagerie: The Prodigal Son Brings Death".
I also like that the themes are ordered in a different way that the other releases. And the fact that it lacks of the batch of superfluos themes that are often included like the Trailer and "If I Didn't Care" or the Japanese Woman's Song it's also good news. In sum‚ a very good work.

Notes :
The original had way fewer missing frames filled with silence compared to the 1996 AsianWorlds release, but still it presented the same kind of issues.
Either the quality of the media was affected by time either the media itself was not properly ripped. Somehow we would hope the original master did not present such imperfections though a wrong indexing of the tracks was still there. Again the same sources used by the FIC releases, again the same edits and creative solutions. Who is who and who deserve the credit for the original concept is not for us to guess or to care for what it matters. Enjoy a fully restored version with proper indexing.

Afterword :
The "Blade Runner - Special Edition" appears to be an expanded and remastered version originating from the same concept (the foreign dubs) of the "Blade Runner - Director's Cut" by FIC, (5th in the Mmoires series, with about four volumes devoted to Blade Runner) and it is the original limited version of the rarer "Mmoires Vol 7" release originally by FIC (who preserved Vangelis unreleased material with the Mmoires series spanning twelve volumes) that was eventually manufactured in Japan by Deck Music.
Perhaps, as it appears with the "Struzan Beta" edition, which is a repackaging of the Deck Music edition or FIC version (that we cannot guess), the "Blade Runner Special Edition" by Deck Music might be a better (re)packaging of the Mmoires Vol 7.
Again someone ripped someone off... if not done by mutual agreement (that we'll never guess).
Tracks renamed likely to the MR3 fashion as this never had an official tracklist, neither in japanese nor in english for what that matters... even if it did have a not-so-official tracklist (at some point) as an allegedly repackaged version of "Mmoires Volume 5" sold via not-so-legal mp3 sites.

Notes :
A bootleg recording is an audio and/or video recording of a performance that was not officially released by the artist, or under other legal authority. The process of making and distributing such recordings is known as bootlegging. A great many such recordings are simply copied and traded among fans of the artist without financial exchange, but some bootleggers are able to sell these rarities for profit, sometimes by adding professional-quality sound engineering and packaging to the raw material. Bootlegs can consist of recordings of live performances, or material created in private or professional recording sessions. Changing technologies have had a great impact on the recording, distribution, and varying profitability of the underground industry. The copyrights for the song and the right to authorize recordings often reside with the artist, according to several international copyright treaties. The recording, trading and sale of bootlegs continues to thrive, however, even as artists and record companies attempt to provide "authorized" alternatives to satisfy the demand.

Needless to remind to decompress to WAV first (preferred). Cue sheet with CD-Text info is included (suggested). Multiple WAV Files With Gaps (Noncompliant) if you know your tools. Burn at 4x speed (always) with no pause between tracks otherwise.
Be responsible in giving back what you had for free. Consider sharing back what was shared of old if you care. We are only left with what we share eventually. The more accurately (read properly) the better for the peers-to-be.
