I must say, it makes me very happy some people that look for the Horror movies soundtracks of Kenji-sama. :)
I was first introduced to him in my back kid days, with BLUE SEED, which it still is my favorite (kind of) "Horror" anime ever. :D
It makes happy, because it is not very often people that like horror sound, special in the kind of Kenji Kawai does, mostly ambience, but in his majority, very catchy on the hears. That is my primary reason of why I like Kenji Kawai that much. How he creates a greate enviroment of terror, horror and suspense arround his compositions. Some people say a lot, that he does not get out of the same thing that he composes. Well, if people "Hear" better, his compositions are much more unique in the horror movies then any other kind of movies or anime of other classification (like action, drama and so on...)

I saw today "ASSAULT GIRLS" movie, because the soundtrack has the theme of "Nine Sisters" (of the AVALON sountrack), and I was curious if it was related to the AVALON movie.
Well.. Another movie that makes my opinion of Mamoru Oshii being -Overated-. The Fact is, I hate the fact that he is seen as a visionaire of cinema. His movies are always like this:
- If there is a Plot, Only Him knows it and for the viewers, we see nothing or just keep on catching flies in the air;
- Enormous ammount of unnecessairy scenes that are not even resolving or evolving anything in the plot (if there is a plot);
- He works so much for the cool grafics and CG, that... he forgets everything else..... like, a reason for us to grab on the plot (if there is one... again)

I could go forever naming some things. But honestly my favorite movies of Mamoru Oshi are Ghost In the Shell (the first movie only) and Patlabor The Movie (the first movie also). Patlabor 2 movie, indeed is interesting, and I do really don't dislike it that much, but on of the things that he "murdered" in the scene of direction, was ALPHONSE beeing destroyed on the movie and never appear again. Note that ALPHONSE is the Mecha of Noa, and is one of the main characters of the series. He killed and idol, and let it dead. This was one of the things that pissed me off. But the animation for teh Patlabor 2 movie, indeed is amazing, and I confess that I often see my VHS so my eyes can eat that animation. When I saw Jin-Roh I was so happy thinking "WOW! A good direction of Mamoru Oshii", but in the end he had to do Shit...again.
Assault Girls made feel my time was a waste. 70 minutes and the last 10 minutes are most interesting then the rest of the movie. The first 4 minutes of the movie are very interesting by it's philosofical message (that grabbed my atention) , after everything went wrong as hell. I'm not going to spoiler more. But I do recomend not see this movie. It was even difficult to see it with the beautifull soundtrack. :(

Unfortunately I do not have this album. I could only find the now "famous" 18 mn long suite. It is true that the audio quality is pretty awful (except for the main title) !. Also this is for fans only.

Which is funny. I have been buying and collecting cds and lps which are very rare to get and almost impossible to get, and I have nothing of kenji kawai yet. :/
Most of the things I most wanted to buy were searches of maybe a lifetime. Maybe the next time I will be able to buy cds from japan, I will try get some of kenji kawai.

I would also buy it but the price is just too high for such a short album. I still don't know why this is already sold out. It only came out in 2004. Older scores by Kawai are still available.

Well, Jinky extend also has copy paste tracks from Blue Seed soundtracks, so this is not the first time I see something like this from is part.
UFO Princess Valkyrie Character Singles also caught me in surprise. Character singles nowadays are not just so good as these ones. I really did enjoyed listening to these. Good Music indeed. :)

Well, it is more liek a drama movie. The producers want you to think it is a horror movie but it actually is more like a mystery drama. The soundtrack is the scariest thing about it :)

I don't know why the song is on there. I guess Kenji thought it would fit the movie and it did :)
Assault Girls also has a track that is called Tir na mBan II which is a direct continuation of Tir na mBan which is on the Avalon score. Ok, those two movies are connected.

The ending felt a bit tacked on. It was just too sugary. The down beat ending which happened beforehand was more fitting in my opinion.

Ok it is a good horror movie enough for someone to like it, not something that makes you "WOW", but I did like it the movie and plot itself. At same time these freaking asians almost makes us think we are insane because of those plot twists XD

The remake is ok. It's not that bad (it has Jennifer Connelly after all) but ultimately unneccessary.

It's more like a survival thriller. It's set in the Antarctica (hence the title). There is some supernatural stuff thrown in every now and then but it has very little effect on the story.

And also I don't like much american remakes of horror movies originally asians since most of them the original creators are not there and it sucks a lot. The american mind for horror movies as nothing to do with psichological behavior or anything, it must have a killer or something that kills and then someone to kill.
For example the Grudge 3, the creator itself says that movie is nothing related to is own cannon. I did not like the movie and it looked so typically american. :/
Takashi Shimizu only gave the copywright for the tape thing of the murder, the actors being kayako and toshio he did not allowed them to be in that movie, also, I think the actors himself did not want to be a part of it. That is why you have diferent actors playing those roles.
One missed call being remake of Chakushin Ari of Takashi Mike, was not that good for me too. and Shutter based on the original Taiwanese movie looks depressing.
In my country I mostly see that here people are bad critics at movies. Most people just want see a movie if it makes laugh or if it has lot's of action scenes. It is something that they don't understand, like Tale of Two Sisters, they wont like and say it is a waste of time.
I prefer asian horror movies for everything. Asians have the 6th sense on it. It is not just to kill people or showing deaths, they really show what they culture is alike.
I recently saw "Haunted Office" , i think it is chinese. And there is good lesson to take out of that, and like in all asian horror movies we do learn about the dead. They have more respect to the deads then what the show in the movies. So what people in my country don't understand is how deep these movies are.

In 1987, Kenji Kawai composed the music for Twilight Q (2 x 30mn OVA - The second episode was directed by Mamoru Oshii).

How come Kenji Kawai cannot lose is great touch on this thing?
It started to be Broadcasted in 22th this month the TV Live Action "ANOTHER GANTZ" with music composed by Kenji Kawai. I was never much interested on Gantz, but these soundtracks sure are making curious to see it. I hope is not that explicit has the mangas and a bit more controled on pervert immoral thing. A least for what I have been shown, I did not like it at all. :/

All these are properly tagged and all with tracklists and covers. :)
Tetsu no Hone Soundtrack, I tried and looked, and it seems it is iTunes exclusive release, so I don't really know the catalogue number to have together on the soundtrack, and that is the only info I have. :/

I was kinda disappointed by Antarctic Journal. As you said, the potential was there but they never used it.
It also suffered from a serious identity crisis. It was part survival drama, part thriller, part mystery and part horror without any of the genres taking the lead. So it felt a bit all over the place.
It was a bit overlong too, which is a flaw many Asian films have. They often just don't know when to stop.
The positives: The acting was good, the cinematography was gorgeous (also a stable with Asian movies) and the music was great.
It's not a bad movie but just not a very special one.
House of Flying Daggers was good. It just couldn't hold the standard Hero and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon set.

I like movies with the survival thing in it a lot. I like to see how human mind can think for tehir survival and how they act. That was a bit of teh reason it also encouraged me to see the movie. But I really got lost on it. :/

I do not tagg in Kanji on the files because my programs do not support them asian characters. And I cannot burn on dvds with those same file names.
BUt I do not care that much about that. As long it is organized and I can hear it, it is fine ;)

They haven't, but it's the only software produced by MS to be nearly Bug-free. and that works correctly. Which is rare in today's products, even if I'm quite satisfied with 7. ;)

I like MSDOS. :) and I do agree with Docrate. You should LiquidAcid, I am very Oldfashioned, and I still say the Best Windows OS are Windows 98, NT and Millenium. Though, some may say "those are way overpast, the future now is......(whatever)". I never go to where society wants us to go. I go to where my "liking" and self opinion and analysis of certain things. Yes, I am a bit against great invention, like 3D cinema or Slim TVs, because I see nothing so great on them. Like I said in one thread: The human evolution is going straight to futility and nothing that really is needed to do or evolve from, like dying childreen in africa, or countries with misery so high, that for some "YUPI, A SLIM TV with HD and conections to computer and all of teh connections known by mankind."

Anyways, I do like to have the job on romanizing the names of the tracklists. I have no one to speak japanese with, and doing that it makes not forget and learn more about the KANJI which is something I do not know 100% well. Organizing japanese soundtracks is the same has learning to me. :)

I did a lot of software develoment on Win98SE (after upgrading from W95B) and it was a pain in the ass. Missing separation between kernel space and user space was a huge problem. It got a whole lot better after I moved to Win2K.

Then my mother killed the computer, by disconnecting the AC adapter while I was shutting down. In other words, corrupt kernel. :p.

Recently a friend of mine took this one home, did his voodoo on it, and it should work fine. I'll soon be able to play my old games without the hassle of making them work on Win7.:D

Which is also wrong. E.g. if I remember correctly MSDOS had a serious bug in it's dblspace/drvspace driver, which could corrupt your filesystem data. This was fixed in version 6.2 (look it up via Google if you want). I could probably name a lot more issues.

Nope, I'm no developer, except if you count writing scripts for various RPG applications (most notably tablesmith, for which i wrote a few monsters, that I've never published) and a little html. doesn't count as development, though. the only development i've ever done was in basic, and it was in computer class in sixth grade :D

Hum, I'll look into that. thanks for the tip. But that still leaves some game I need windows 98 to play, as I don't plan to fiddle like crazy with 7. Like Fallout 1 and 2, and the baldur's gate series. :D

The reason why I say this, out of a lot of the music I listen too (Especially certain Kenji Kawai Albums), I thought sky crawlers was a very plain soundtrack, but with a very catchy melody going for it, which he does all of the time, he's just like Nobuo, he can always make a memorable melodies. :D

Listen to Both Moribito soundtracks, and Eden of the East, I think you'll enjoy them :D

That's a good starting point, it will be difficult to hear a lot of his work, but it definitely will not be dificult to hear him at all. :D

I agree. But the theme, as you said, is superb and that is more than enough for me. I actually got into Sky Crawlers because a friend recommended me to. I was told if I liked the melancholy sound of Fate/Stay Night then Sky Crawler has a lot that can impress me. That is actually what I am still after. More of this sound!

The same was the release of NHK BS Historical drama "Tsukahara Bokuden" (NGCS-1011).

Kenji Kawai also made the soundtrack for the known JU-ON director, Takashi Shimizu's "THE RABBIT HORROR x 3D", and it was relesed in 4th September 2011 (ESCL-3766). I am eager either to see the movie or to hear the soundtrack. Yes, I am a Takashi Shimizu Fan. :p

I found the problem! There is a "space" at the end of the correct password, so basically the password for that file is "2ll1n0n3 " and not "2ll1n0n3" :P

I've been asking for these for ages.
Their Kawai's best works, in my opinion~

OST 2 in 320kbps would be nice, because it's difficult to find.

In 1987, Kenji Kawai composed the music for Twilight Q (2 x 30mn OVA - The second episode was directed by Mamoru Oshii).

Cosmos Pink Shock was Kenji Kawai first anime soundtrack and ... maybe the first. :) Typical 80ts in his own style. :)
OROCHI and Rabbit Horror are horror movies, so... we will have horror soundtrack :p
Rabbit Horror movie was created and directed by Takashi Shimizu, the well known creator of Ju-On. But this soundtrack makes me thinkg the movie is not so smooth horror as other Takashi's works. The soundtrack is good, but makes me think tehmovie is more hasty for action then horror. Not seen it yet, though. I may be wrong.
The NHK historical drama of 2 episodes, "Tsukahara Bokuden ", goes for the typical composition of Kenji Kawai. There is not much of new stuff in here, just his typical thing.

I tried to look for YAT singles, but no luck. My main reason was... just because I wanted to ending theme in karaoke. That was how I saw it in my country. No japanese voice at all. :( But it really was marking song at the time, and still is to me. Hekiru Shiina is not a bad singer, but I preffer the karaoke version. :p

Dream Hunter Rem, Kenji Kawai only was in these 3 releases. the New Dream Hunter cds are different musicians.
kenji Kawai also composed and arranged almost all vocal tracks.

Towa no Quon music is really good and very interesting. I kinda feellike curious about the anime. Is it something worth to wast your life time watching?
The new EP release in iTunes are also very good. I enjoyed both of them. :)
Umechan soundtrack is more in slice of life way, so, it is not that high beated stuff we are used on Kenji Kawai side, but still, it has is moments, and it is a relaxing soundtrack to hear in the end of streesy day. :)

And for all TAYLOR people....
I have started to add and submit infos in VGMDB. Very soon they will all be uploaded. :) That is my promise. My next Kenji Kawai Uploads will be those. ;)

Just to explain. I have been having requests about the suposed track 18 of Seven Swords ost, claiming it tobe a the Music of teh trailer. It is worng to assume that. First of all, only ONE release, the japanese one, has that and it is not and audio track. It is The Trailer Video inside the CD; in a another words, it is an bonus of the the cd.
Second... all other relases , chinese, tawain, american dont have this bonus. So quit PM me about that. (Message for the users who kept spamming me about in my inbox.)

Now, a bit of story telling.. :p
Seven Swords is oone of my favorite live action soundtracks of Kenji Kawai. The arranged strings are awsome. One of tehthings I did not expect in this osundtrack, since it is feudal chinese movie (I think. I still have to see that movie), we have some Kenji Kawai horror tunes, with his creepy female choir ecoing here and there. You can see it (or hear it) very well in the second track. Almost all soundtrack is ni Action mood. I said almost. But inmy opinion what may keep you addicted is the arrangements on strings instruments, if... horror tunes are not your liking.

About WILD7, I was pretty amazed with it. So much that I already saw the movie. :D
I like the movie. Not something so good, but enjoyable. Enough for me to want a second movie. :D
The soundtrack is really addictive in it's own way. Kenji Kawai created like a "Wild7 main theme". Although there is no track with that name, you can fell it. ;)
That "main theme" was well worked in my opinion, and used insuch apropriate ways in the movie. In my opinion the soundtrack is much more enjoyable with hearphones. Specially because we have ambience in some tracks and hearing .... loud in the room, you just loose all the fun of it.
oh, and we have choir. x.x *orgasm*
freaking cool. :D

I would like to mention that Kenji Kawai's newest soundtrack, "Sound of 009 RE: Cyborg", has been released. Keep an eye out for it, it is out both on disc and on the Japanese iTunes.
