So apparently Ennio Morricone contributed in some way to the MGS4 score, at least according to Konami's press release for the Gun-metal PS3 MGS4 bundle, where it says so in the soundtrack description

i have a noob question - what exactly is a "fan soundtrack"? Is it something completely unrelated to official material, meaning a random dude (a fan) put his favorite tracks in an order he likes and made some cover art? or...?

That_Stupid_Guy
05-21-2008, 02:34 AM
Fan soundtrack means that a fan ripped the tracks himself, compiled all of those ripped tracks, made cover art (maybe, Switchfreak has covered the ones that ones that don't have art). Usually, the tracks are those that were not officially released in a soundtrack by Konami. These fan soundtracks can vary in quality, but official Konami soundtracks are "Original Soundtracks", while soundtracks ripped and compiled by people other than Konami are "Fan Soundtracks".

That about sums it up. Konami releases OST's for some games like Snake Eater, etc. Then there are games that have original music but it never gets an official release. So if someone records the music from those games, it's a Fan Soundtrack.

no, it's actually a video from MGS3: Substience disk 3, like with MG Saga 1 and 2. and it's not a bootleg.

I can't just rip the video as it's not pre-rendered. That's the reason the disc only plays in a PS3 is actually uses the MGS3 engine to run the movies. When I get a DV-R I'm planning on running the video through there and grabbing it that way, but it may be a little while before I get that far. Sorry. :(

As I am the one who scanned the covers, I'd have to say yes. I got this as a bday gift, so I'm guessing it was ebay? Anyhow, the tracklists are exactly the same, so I'm not sure it matters whether it's bootleg or not. But I am glad you said something... I hadn't even looked until just now!

In addition to the music from the music player on the MGS4 website, this includes music from the webgame and now defunct preview site's countdown banner. They all have official tags and album art.

I see you have rips listed for the MGS4 website, but I know they are recordings since they are 192 kbps which doesn't match the original bitrate. I extracted the mp3s directly, for absolutely no quality loss.

Anyone know what's the music that you can listen on MGS2 while Raiden and Solidus are over the Arsenal Gear that destroyed Manhattan, and then Colonel Campbel, the A.I. call Raiden, then a custcene plays while on codec showing some scnes from the briefing and other scenes MGS1, I know that I've already listened this music before on MGS1, but I can find it, the music could be called Shadow Moses theme, but I don't know, it's a sad music...

So, if you can help me to find it, friend...

If you've watched the trailers especially the latest one, then you have already half spoiled it for yourself, so looking at the track titles wouldnt hurt much.

This is exactly why I dont watch trailers, ok maybe the 1st one but after that, their just going to keep showing more, I mean imagine if you hadnt seen raiden yet, and then when you were playing he showed up, I bet you would be like WTF? but now you know his showing up as a cyborg or whatever he is.

MGS trailers give away too much sometimes.

That's a good point. But I have to be honest, I've NEVER had a Metal Gear trailer spoil a game for me. Kojima is far to sneaky to go spoiling his work with over-revealing trailers.

However, the track titles of a soundtrack aren't meant to be a teaser, but are meant to describe where they take place in a story; so they could very well reveal too much of the going's-on in the plot line.

:-D

That_Stupid_Guy
05-24-2008, 07:26 PM
Still, if I remember correctly there was NO mention of Raiden in the MGS2 trailers until the US release date itself. I don't remember very well, though, so...

Rizer
05-24-2008, 08:59 PM
Well you might be right in that the tracks might give away at what point in the game it is, usually a track called final battle is a give away lol.

As for MGS2 trailer, raiden was in it, its just nobody knew you would actually play the whole damn game with him.

On the Music Compilation of Hideo Kojima, the back case art has what looks like an EVER ANIME logo on it; this is one of the bootleg companies Chudah's Corner (the site Music Lord gave) pointed out. Hopefully this isn't one of your purchased OST's either. Felt like pointing that out.

Actually, it's already out in Japan since they are ahead of us by several hours.

If anyone has iTunes, you can go to the main store front, scroll all the way to the bottom, and select the Japanese characters for the language, you can search for "Metal Gear Solid" in the store, and it'll come up with the official soundtrack towards the right.

I haven't listened to the second disc yet, but does anyone know if the MGS theme made it onto the soundtrack? I know the MGS Saga track has the theme from MGS3, but that's not the same

I tried that, and it only came up with the Metal Gear 20th Anniversary Metal Gear Music Collection.

I tried that, and it only came up with the Metal Gear 20th Anniversary Metal Gear Music Collection.

The soundtrack was pulled from the iTunes Store in Japan. It sounded to me like there were some encoding issues. Lots of blips and crackles in the samples. My guess is they are getting new files from Konami.

Here is a copy of a press image that they are using for the official soundtrack. I wanted to keep it as close to 600x600 as possible so I wasn't able to crop it exactly as they are cropping the actual soundtrack cover, but it's better than most of what's currently posted:

Hello all!

I appreciate the links, and I considered adding them to the thread but my copy is headed to me now from Play-Asia and I'm gonna get Lossless FLAC and 320kbps mp3 rips posted to the site when it gets here along with some hi-res scans of the album art, etc.

Still, this is a KILLER soundtrack so grab it up and give it a listen if you haven't already. I'll get the final version added to thread as soon as I can!!!

Okay, I'm in the process of grabbing OFFICIAL releases of Metal Gear OST's on ebay instead of these dang bootlegged versions.

I'll post Lossless versions as they are acquired.

Already won MGS2 and The Other Side. Working on MGS1 and possibly grabbing the "Snake Eater: Song From MGS3" EP.

I stole it from the official Konami MGS4 site. It's already at the max resolution from that site. If it was larger I'd definitely have uploaded a 900x900 image or made a wallpaper out of it. I'm obsessed with high-res art.

Please don't hang me or get frustrated :(
But can some one tell me or even forward me to the thread (although I've been in there before but not much made sense to me :( )that explains the difference of Lossless rips & FLAC Lossless ?? Are they the same? What about mp3 what are those considered I've seen some 128, 192 320kbps? If I rip a CD into my computer how will I know what it is? I know this don't have anything to do with metal gear :( & I aplogize It's just with all the talk about quality I don't know which soundtracks to grab :( I appreciate anyone willing to help me out & again I'm sorry I'm pretty much a noob when it comes to this :(

The problem is you are not using WinRAR. WinRAR is a great multi-format program that opens everything I have ever come across. Although it says it is not free I have yet to come across it not being fully funtional due to it being the demo version.

Losless (FLAC) is as good as it can get when it comes to music quality. It is one good step above MP3, the difference between 128, 192 and 320 is noticeable if you have good quality speakers. If you got a bunch of old boxes you won't really notice that much difference. But I am not an expert on these kind of things (yet).

Alright folks, I'm back in action here.

As I mentioned before I am in the process of acquiring OFFICIAL Konami releases of all the Metal Gear soundtracks. As they trickle in I'll be adding 320kbps and FLAC Lossless rips here for your listening pleasure. I've already received a couple and I've also exported my personal game-rips in FLAC as well.

MONDO update in progress:

-Adding the MGS4: Guns of the Patriots Soundtrack in 320kbps mp3 and FLAC Lossless with scans of the original packaging.
-Adding "Snake Eater" Song From MGS3 in 320kbps and FLAC Lossless with scans of original packaging as well as the 'Camouflage Key Disc' data files.
-Adding MGS: Digital Graphic Novel in FLAC Lossless.
-Adding MGS: Portable Ops Plus in FLAC Lossless.
-Adding MGO: Premiere Beta in FLAC Lossless.

These are going to take a while to upload, so keep an eye HERE (http://www.filefactory.com/f/0ed25a305f2f4244/) to grab them up. I'll move the links when they're finished uploading. (Probably tomorrow)

Also, future plans for the thread include some non-music material. Emulators and Roms, PaperCraft projects, OtaClock, etc. I'm planning on adding some info to all the soundtrack headings; where it came from, Japanese/Us, release info, etc. I'm considering an official wallpaper collection as well, but that may take a little while to put together.

Let me know your thoughts on all of this!

And as always, ENJOY! :-D

Good question. I should have explained myself better.

These soundtracks are currently uploading. It may take a while since Comcast is the devil and my upload speed is awful. I linked all these soundtracks to the main listing for now, and you can check in periodically and download them as they become available. As soon as they're all done, I'll update to direct links on the main page.

MP3's are not the second best form of audio. MP3 is a format that operates only within the average range of human hearing, which is 20hz-20,000hz. That is just the average and you will be able to hear frequencies extended out both ways (majorly depending on age; older=ears do not respond to out of range frequencies as well or at all.)

Anyways what MP3s do is cut out all sound outside of that average range. And the what it cuts out is going to be were you notice a lot of the detail.

Also, be careful if you are trying to buy good headphones. Since average Joe's go around listening to MP3s and do not really care about the quality of them (not to mention the quality of the music itself) most headphones sold at convienience stores only operate in the average range (20hz-20,000hz) as well. The back of the box almost always gives you the frequency range.

Sure thing. I'll start seeding in the morning, so as not to clog my bandwidth while uploading these RAR's. :-D

And to answer your earlier question about the MGS Playthrough. It will probably be the end of summer before I get a chance to start on it, but once I do get rolling with it, I may need some suggestions on what to grab... thinking about:

- Codec Calls
- Cutscenes (with dialogue, no way separate the two)
- BGM that's missing from the OST

If anyone has specific info on where the missing BGM's are please, please, PLEASE let me know so i don't waste time grabbing songs that aren't needed. :-D

If anyone has specific info on where the missing BGM's are please, please, PLEASE let me know so i don't waste time grabbing songs that aren't needed. :-D

Thanks!

Also, for MGS1 I was just wondering how you planned to record the music since their are conversations over it.

Sorry, by cutscenes, I meant music from the cutscene's with the dialogue over it as there's no way to separate the two.

Also, let me know when you finish the Metal Gear Saga torrent so I can quit seeding.

I remembered where the files were... in the installation folder of the MGS PC Trial Edition!!! I dropped them into iTunes and tagged them with an album name and artist so you could keep track of them easier.

METAL GEAR SOLID SFX FILES ( http://www.filefactory.com/file/cf7e1a/)

The names are all alpha-numeric gibberish, but I think the menu SFX are tracks 0x15-0x17.

It's mine. I ripped it from the physical soundtrack. I just had to wait for it to get here and someone had already circulated a lower-rate rip. Basically everything on here I've ripped myself, with the exception of a few lower-rate Fan Soundtracks.

A note to all the folks wanting the MGS3 Existence ISO. Here's the dealy-o. This thing is close to 4.5Gb... making it about 40 rar files that need to be uploaded, then downloaded. I'm opting for a torrent, but want to be sure those that requested this are okay with that?

It IS a PS2 format DVD. All the cutscenes in the Metal Gear Series run off the in-game engine (thus no visual-quality difference between gameplay and cutscenes) therefore the cutscenes can't run separate from the PS2 engine.

I guess what I'll do is break this into 275Mb pieces instead of 100Mb pieces and upload them to FileFactory. It'll be easier on you guys, cause you won't have to combat my ridiculously poor upload service. (It's Comcastic!) All right, listen. I'm a complete newcomer to the Metal Gear franchise, but I have to say, I love...absolutely ADORE...the main theme. Unfortunately, as this theme is incredibly popular, it seems to have been remixed multiple times over.

I'm looking for one of two particular versions: one would be a high quality version of Eminence Orchestra's (see: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZfKA4b5SFq4) and the other is a version I heard at the end of GameTrailer's MGS4 Video Review (see: http://www.gametrailers.com/player/35051.html), which was just friggin' epic.

Can some lovely soul direct me to one of these two songs (preferably the one from the GT review), and include the track number and title? I'd be much, much, MUCH obliged. = D

to theq66:

I tried to put everything in chronological order myself. The problem is that many tracks are used multiple times in the game, but not the whole track, just snippets. I've put the tracks in order to the point where I'm comfortable with the order. Here's the link:http://www.megaupload.com/?d=17Q9YA6Q

I'm upset that several songs are missing from the 2-disc soundtrack, notably the music that plays during gameplay in Act 3 which is a permutation of "Midnight Shadow", as well as several tracks that play during Act 4. I'm hoping for a game rip, or an "mgs2: other side" type of additional soundtrack. There is a thread on this at metalgearsolid.org here: http://www.metalgearsolid.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=57&t=28809&hilit=music

In the meantime, here's what I've got, and there are obvious spoilers in the tracklist.

Also, I'm not sure where Next-Gen Control, One More Reboot, and No Place to Hide appear in the game, so I put them at the end. If anyone would like to tell me where they appear chronologically, I will go back and add these three songs back in.

To answer your question, the normal version seems to be the complete sound track with all the songs. The limited edition soundtrack is what came with the game in the limited edition box. If you were to pick one, I'd say the normal edition since it has all the music plus bonus ones.

Something's bugging me here. I got the MGS4 soundtrack, but there appears to be music music. I know that sometimes, on soundtracks, they may have tracks missing but I'd have thought it'd be there. Now, I've been through the tracks and I've not heard it, but I'm wondering if I've missed it.

The part I'm talking about is from Act 3 of the game, right before the bike sequence. Slightly before everything kicks off there's a sort of build up, then it goes quiet for a moment then they go into it.

That seems to be missing. It's a shame if it is, because it's a brilliant part of the game and a great piece of music.

What? Can you rephrase that please Caze. There are some songs on the soundtrack you never heard because you haven't reach that part. Some of the songs from the cd are different from the game, because the songs on the cd contains all the part that are pieced together as a single song. If you play music, you'll notice some songs are broken into different parts, "phases" and pieces. The game uses different parts for different moments.

"Encounter" is in there. I didn't bother with Lethal Encounter because it's exactly the same as on the official soundtrack release. Encounter was the only one that was arranged differently.

The Game Over themes? Yes, both versions are on there under "Mission Failed" - the Act 4 version and the one for every other act. I've kept the "Snaaaake!!" scream for the non Act 4 version.

As far as the game goes, the LE includes the game...and a Blu-ray disc w/ Behind the Scenes and the 16-track soundtrack.

As for the soundtracks, the aforementioned LE soundtrack is one 16 track disc while the regular soundtrack is 2 discs.

Hola folks!

I've been in Florida for a couple weeks and am heading home tomorrow. I'm currently figuring out some more accurate methods for ripping to FLAC so I'll (hopefully) be re-posting those sometime early next week.

I have a few other soundtracks that I ordered before leaving on vacation that should be ready to rip when I get home, so I'll get on that asap.

As far as all the posts go here, I'm basically going to be avoiding the boards until I get and beat MGS4. I can't login to make a *SPOILER ALERT* post everyday, and people are too lazy to read, or just don't care and I can't bear to blow something I've been waiting 7 years to play . If you have a question about content that is ALREADY posted, or something needs re-posting, just PM me and I'll get it taken care of. As far as game-rips for MGS4 and such, feel free to post here and help each other out.

I'll throw something up here to let you know when I get the new FLAC's posted.

Hey Switchfreak

Great stuff! Metal Gear Solid has always had excellent soundtracks, I can just put them them on to get into a zone. I'm pretty sure you and everyone else here feels the same way. Thanks for the sacrifice of your time and resources

I have one tiny requests if you wouldn't mind to oblige

*SPOILER*The Shadow Moses level in Guns of the Patriots when you enter the blast furnace (after the crying wolf fight)*END SPOILER*. It has a tinge of a remix theme of the original Metal Gear Solid soundtrack. It's not on the official soundtrack for some reason

I need this!!!

I hope i'm not being too pushy

Hey i was wondering for the Twin Snakes ost, if the Infiltrator Vs Parasite still has Psycho Mantis saying "Black Out" at the beginning of the song, because i got this ost from the soundtrack page at Galbadia Hotel, so i was wondering if this was the same thing

Oh and great work with the finding and uploading of these great ost's

Hey guys & girls, i've ripped the music from the MGS4 database. You can find it here: Thread 56769

You're welcome to integrate it in this thread if you want to, switchfreak.

I'm still in the process of making a complete rip of MGS4 including iPod songs and everything else that wasn't included in the original soundtrack and some small remixes of my own.

*Spoiler Warning for anyone who's still playing through 4*

I wish on the OST for 4 they had that funky remix of Mantis' hymn.

Hi! This is my first post! Wanted to say thanks for making such a great selection of music available!

I have one small request if possible please - the version of 'Old Snake' from the title screen. It's different to the one on the CD.

"Encounter" is in there. I didn't bother with Lethal Encounter because it's exactly the same as on the official soundtrack release. Encounter was the only one that was arranged differently.

Nevermind. I saw ur other thread. Damn, no way to RIP that part huh?

I'm back!

Not everything is back up, but it will be soon. I have the rest of the Official Konami OST's on the way to my house right now and will upload them asap.

I'm putting the FLAC ARCHIVAL LOSSLESS rips together right now. Will be posted soon.

ENJOY! :-D

In Metal Gear Solid (PS1 Original) there is a song that plays during Snake's introduction in the elevator.. and in the snow while he is ducking the Hind D with Liquid. Has that song ever been ripped? I've never seen it in any OST!

Not that I know of. I am planning on doing a full rip of the PS1 classic as soon as I get some free time. I'm not sure I'll be able to edit out SFX and dialogue though... which is why it's probably never been ripped. :-(

Great stuff, particularly the rare / unreleased stuff (since I already proudly own the officially released soundtracks). I still think a MGS4 iPod soundtrack is in order though, or at least rare ones that I can't seem to find like that "Bon Song" or whatever it was called (sounds like a traditional Japanese song, supposedly on the Snake Eater soundtrack but I can't find it there).

Rest assured, once I get my PS3, I will be making another soundtrack for all you lovely people. I'm selling some start wars stuff on ebay to offset the cost, so I could have a system VERY soon!!!

Thank you, my friend. What I was most surprised at finding (and pleased) was the VR Missions tracks, which I had been wanting for years. I've almost given myself a heart attack at finding all these other rare Metal Gear albums! A rare treasury indeed.

I know this isn't exactly on-topic but it's similar. Does anyone have some MGS piano sheet music? All I've found is the Metal Gear Solid 1 Theme by Tappy. I'd love to get some more, especially the themes from 2/3/4. Been looking all over but no luck.

Hey guys. First, switchfreak thank the stars that you did this! You've pleased MGS fans everywhere.

Second, I'm a HUGE fan of MGS: Ghost Babel's music and ive took upon myself to redo some of the tracks because of the low quality ::MGS.org:: did.

There in a higher quality and 5x longer then the OST versions (example: if it was 2 mins long i extended it to 5 mins) If anyone wants these tracks PM me and i'll gladly send them over. I still put ::MGS.org::'s ID3 tags because they were the base i used so they will fit well with your normal OST list.

Here are the tracks i redid:
21 - GANDER, Stage 1
22 - GANDER, Stage 2
24 - Ascent
25 - The Future
27 - Depature

If anyone wants a track from ghost babel redone PM me.

Hey switchfreak, I had meant to comment earlier but I just totally forgot. Just wanted to tell you what an awesome job you did on the archival lossless thing, I hope other will be able to benefit from it as well. :)

2 questions: (1) where is the METAL GEAR 20th ANNIVERSARY - Metal Gear Music Collection in FLAC, see it's on the main page in Archival Lossless but I can't seem to find it in the FLAC link.

(2) I'm not too familiar with MGS music, not before Brawl anyway. Can you recommend me some albums that you personally find appealing? I currently have "SNAKE EATER" SONG FROM METAL GEAR SOLID 3 and METAL GEAR SOLID 4: GUNS OF THE PATRIOTS.
