I despise indie very much, it's more less likely the arrogant attitudes some of the musicians in the genre have that gets to my hate section. Though that doesn't put aside that Of Montreal have done enough for my vote.

Or is it that 30 seconds to mars are that bad, that even pretentious indie can win?

From 2000 to 2005 Jim O'Rourke became a full-time member as a multi-instrumentalist. Before Shelley, Sonic Youth went through several drummers, including Bob Bert, Richard Edson and Jim Sclavunos.

Belle & Sebastian: Belle & Sebastian are a band formed in Glasgow, Scotland in January 1996. They have been called the greatest Scottish band ever, and are one of the most celebrated groups of the 1990s. Belle & Sebastian are often compared to influential indie bands such as The Smiths, as well as classic rock acts such as Love, Bob Dylan and Nick Drake. The name Belle & Sebastian is inspired by Belle et Sbastien, a children's book by French writer Ccile Aubry. Lauded by critics, Belle & Sebastian's "wistful pop" has nevertheless enjoyed only limited commercial success.

vs

Green Day: Green Day was originally part of the punk rock scene at 924 Gilman Street in Berkeley, California. Its early releases for independent label Lookout! Records earned them a grassroots fanbase, some of whom felt alienated when the band signed to a major label. Nevertheless, its major label debut Dookie became a breakout success in 1994 and eventually sold over 10 million copies in the U.S. alone. As a result, Green Day was widely credited, along with fellow California punk bands The Offspring and Rancid, with reviving mainstream interest in and popularizing punk rock in the United States. Green Day's three follow-up albums, Insomniac, Nimrod and Warning did not achieve the massive success of Dookie, but they were still successful, reaching double platinum, double platinum and gold status respectively. Its 2004 rock opera American Idiot reignited the band's popularity with a younger generation, selling 5 million copies in the U.S.

Really, if you're going to go with that argument, you should probably just blame The Descendents? They were the biggest influence on bands like Greenday and Blink182 that the current popular emo stuff sprung up from.

And if you're going to blame The Descendents you might as well blame Germs.

It's not really Green Day's fault for "creating" this new emo wave, it's been around since the 90's as far as I know, they just opened the box with their come back, unlikely it was intentional, if it was they'd be diving right into the emo wave themselves, it's like a spark to the fuse, the fuse was already there, the spark just happened to come along and trigger the fuse.

That's how I put it.
Green Day aren't that good but the emo wave that's come in recent years, biggest pile of wank to hit the scene in recent times.

I'm not trying to be so one sided which explains the weird structure of the post.

The duo is considered one of the most successful electronic music collaborations of all time, both in album sales and in critical acclaim. After Daft Punk reached significant popularity in the late 1990s house movement in France, other artists such as Air, Cassius and Dimitri from Paris began to receive a similar amount of attention.

vs

My Bloody Valentine: My Bloody Valentine are an alternative rock band formed in Dublin, Ireland in 1984 and predominately based in London. The founding members were guitarist/singer Kevin Shields and drummer Colm O'Ciosoig. The band's lineup during their heyday also included singer-guitarist Bilinda Butcher and bassist Debbie Googe. The band's use of guitar distortion, tremolo, and digital reverb placed them as part of the shoegazing movement. Their 1991 album Loveless took two years to make, but once released it was critically acclaimed. Since Loveless My Bloody Valentine became inactive and Shields scrapped albums worth of follow-up material. In 2007 Shields announced that the band had reunited and that the group's third album would be released before the end of the year.

Neal played keyboards and was the lead vocalist, as well as being the primary songwriter; Alan plays electric guitar. The pair teamed with fellow musicians Nick D'Virgilio (drums) and Dave Meros (bass) and released their debut album, The Light, in 1995. The quartet were later joined by veteran keyboardist Ryo Okumoto.

vs

The Descendents: Descendents were formed in 1978 by guitarist Frank Navetta, bassist Tony Lombardo and drummer Bill Stevenson. Their first release -- the only one with this lineup -- was "Ride the Wild"/"It's a Hectic World", a double A-side of melodic surf-pop. In 1980 they enlisted Stevenson's old schoolfriend Milo Aukerman as a singer, and reappeared as a punk band, becoming a major player in the hardcore scene developing in Los Angeles at the time. Their first release with Aukerman, 1981's Fat EP, was a furious six-minute barrage of teen angst and goofball humour, featuring such songs as "My Dad Sucks" and the eleven-second "Wienerschnitzel".

In addition to Dio on vocals and keyboards originally, and Vinny Appice on drums, the band featured Vivian Campbell who played guitar, and Jimmy Bain, bass. Dio has sold over 47 million albums worldwide.

vs

Surfjan Stevens: Sufjan Stevens is an American singer-songwriter and musician from Petoskey, Michigan. He is considered part of the folk revival in indie pop, but his influences are very broad. His music has been likened to electronica and the minimalism of Steve Reich.[2] Stevens originally announced plans to make a concept album for each of the 50 U.S. states, having begun the series with Michigan (2003) and Illinois (2005).

You want a bit of debate? Sorry about that then, I'll add something:

Ronnie James Dio in the band DIO itself, well he isn't anywhere as good as he was in Rainbow and Black Sabbath but a lot of the stuff throughout the span of the career is very good, sure Vivian Campbell went emo and left the band, as good as he was I prefered the sound Craig Goldy gave to the band live and on the album Dream Evil.

Whitesnake fans will recognise one of the other DIO guitarists, Doug Aldrich who has played on the latest of DIO's albums. Bloody excellent on stage too but really hasn't shone much with his writing in the band. Sure it's not mandatory but a lot of people should know the song and the controversial album cover for the album of the same name, Holy Diver. Now the faggotry band Killswitch Engage may have killed the song but at least they did raise it's profile somewhat. Holy Diver isn't my favourite DIO song, that would have to be Sunset Superman from Dream Evil or Don't Talk To Strangers from Holy Diver.

I'm not really a fan of Sufjan Stevens but I have indeed heard his stuff, I admit it isn't my to my liking and that the band DIO is really coming from a biased liking before the poll. Everyone is allowed their obsessions as strange as they can be and really mine lies on Ronnie James Dio from his blues days in Ronnie and the redcaps and ELF to the hard rock and heavy metal days like now. He's 65 and still owns the crap out of a lot of singers even now.
Well, I'll shut up now but that's my explanation done.

But Wastin' Pigs Is Still Radical). They are also acclaimed for their elaborate live shows, which feature costumes, balloons, puppets, video projections, complex stage light configurations, giant hands, large amounts of confetti, and frontman Wayne Coyne's signature man-sized plastic bubble, in which he traverses the audience. In 2002, Q magazine named The Flaming Lips one of the "50 Bands to See Before You Die".

vs

Dire Straits: Dire Straits was a British rock band, formed in 1977 by Mark Knopfler (guitar and vocals), his brother David Knopfler (guitar), John Illsley (bass), and Pick Withers (drums), and subsequently managed by Ed Bicknell. Although the band was formed in an era when punk rock reigned, Dire Straits worked within the conventions of classic rock, albeit with a stripped-down sound that appealed to modern audiences weary of the overproduced stadium rock of the 1970s. In their early days, Mark and David requested that pub owners turn down the amps so that patrons could converse while the band played — indicative of their unassuming demeanor. Despite this oddly self-effacing approach to rock and roll, Dire Straits soon became hugely successful with their first album going multi-platinum globally.

right, thats cool. i just wanted to say why updates have been delayed lately.

ive been updating since October, so im not going to suddenly stop, votes have been pretty steady and all, bar one or two rounds.

still getting more votes then Prak's rumble, o burn.
