Also Alpha, what program do you use join the segments together? There's too many segments to add into Audacity, kinda like the Simpsons Game...
I never realised that games like this separated stuff into 7-8 seconds per track...

Guys, Assassin's Creed will take forever and I don't have much motivation left. Every single sound file has to be processed one by one, half of the tracks aren't playable and require further investigation.
I'll continue from time to time and meanwhile I'll just continue the queue list. Meaning that I'll continue with Battlefield: Bad Company. Regarding this very game: I already ripped the PS3 and X360 versions. I guess that the PC version also has MP3 like the PS3 version. Maybe better quality. To be honest, that game is such a fiddling around with thousands of files that I don't have the patience to do it once more. So yeah, that one will be next. :)

Yeah, keep going. if you're stuck, move on to the next one. I was looking forward to Assassin's Creed, but it can wait. Other people have ripped AC before and I was just wanting to preserve it in its original quality, considering that the sound quality in the game itself is not more than 160k.

Because that's not how videogames work.

Every single bit of code is property of the developers and publishers and these guys don't like it when their customers tear apart their "artwork".

No, he's absolutely correct, but that's not the only reason. Optimization is the other reason.Otherwise you end up with a game that is GBs bigger than it needs to be.Size isn't the only problem. Have you seen the prices you have to pay to use MP3 or OGG? You basically pay for every MB of music/sounds stored in that format. Then there are ADPCM variants licensed by Microsoft, at3 by Sony and so on. Basically you'll save the most money if you use more obscure audio formats and build your own engine to avoid license fees from other developers. Ubisoft has been doing this for a long time now with their FORGE engine.
Another reason of course is hardware implementation as with XMA - the console has a hardware-based decoder as far a I know, so playing sounds/music doesn't require CPU resources. Correct me if I'm wrong. ;)

Ubisoft are weird like that. Like, the PC version of Rayman Legends is in freakin' TAK format (Isn't that lossless?!?) compared to other games on their Anvil engine like Prince of Persia and Assassin's Creed.

May I ask if you still have the unaltered Halo 1-2 music files (in .WAV, .MP3 or any other format compatible with Audacity, Sony Vegas &other editing software) still in your archives & available for sharing?

I am aware of Joshua Fireseed's Halo Collection (Thread 81114) (some of my extractions/edits being included there also), but I am trying to build a collective archive of Halo audio & music assets for video-makers. Having their original cuts would be an absolute blast for them to use effectively in video editing, aswell as being great material for remixes & such.

I'm not so concerned about Halo 3 as I do have the tools & resources to extract the audio contents for Halo 3, Halo 3: ODST, Halo: Reach & Halo 4 (although the latter currently doesn't have full support from my toolset, with a minute amount of missing content in Halo: Reach). As for Halo 2, I do have the .map files stored from my old days of light Halo 2 Modding, but I for the life of me cannot find a reliable tool to extract it's audio contents.

Thank you very very very much! It is so awesome! My favorite tracks! I spent hours with abode audition and sound forge to get these loops but was not able to get proper hz for some tracks + you extracted some additional compositions. You are the MAN!
I don't want to borrow your precious time but for the purpose of the great music preservation ... Could you please take a look at Mini Ninjas which is similar to Kane and Lynch Dead Men. The game for PS3 use the same 32000 hz sample rate for most tracks (PC one has also 44100) but the number of them is "huge" + your method allows extracting all tracks in perfect loops!

Hello. Is there a chance you could get music from Guacamelee STCE? They added new levels with new, great music. I tried to rip it myself but xma files defeated me.

Holy crap, thanks so much alpha!

EDIT:

Minor problem, when I attempt to open any of the archives I get this error "7zip cannot open the file as an Archive".

I've downloaded them again and I still get the error.

Can someone help, I've already tried google.

Much greatly appreciated! Thank you. The Menu Music is by no means something lacking, as they all can be found in the in-game music or easily singled out from the Original Soundtrack suites.

However, I must query how to open/convert Halo 2's .LWAV files into something compatible with editors such as Audacity & Sony Vegas. Would I simply use something like towav.exe and/or xWMAencode, or do I require different methods and/or software?

EDIT:
Cancel that query. Converting the files with towav.exe, xWMAencode & packed_codebooks_aoTuV_603.bin (All helpers included with Adjutant 3.5.1.1 for anyone curious to find them) converted them into .WAV files flawlessly. Thank you very much!

You guys ought to make an adjustment to vgmstream that allows XMAs to be played in foobar (that's my secondary player to iTunes).
Speaking of which, how do I go about converting XMA to OGG? I've got your rips of Quantum of Solace and The Simpsons Game but I don't want to reduce the quality any further than it already exists in.

Also, a request, if you please... can you rip Batman: Arkham Asylum [GOTY Edition] from either the PS3 or XBOX? PS3 had exclusive Joker challenge maps and extra music that the other consoles didn't have.

Re-encoding to OGG however WILL reduce the quality. But don't worry - you will only hear it when played side-by-side.

WAV is uncompressed.

Alpha23
07-24-2014, 12:14 PM
WAV is uncompressed. But of course it's still lossy if it's the decode of a lossy stream. For example there's no quality difference between MP3 > OGG and MP3 > WAV > OGG. If you don't want to further reduce the quality by lossy transcoding, you'll have to go with [compressed format] > WAV > editing > [lossless audio compression]. Careful: even something simple as OGG > WAV > OGG result in a lower-quality stream!

Alright, since I know people from the Shrine are registered users on Xentax, I gotta know: why has Xentax all of a sudden started charging money for people registering to their forum and blocking off all the VGM-ripping threads from the public?

Infernus Animositas
07-29-2014, 01:34 AM
Money to register - stem the flow of people registering to get help with "X" game and then not contributing to the site in anyway.

As for blocking off VGM ripping threads from the public... this is just speculation but the forum has had a policy of not uploading copyrighted material for a long time. They were just a lot more lax about it being openly discussed about how to extract, decrypt, convert uploaded material. Now they are cracking down on it hard. You can still talk about it, but publicly showing what you are doing (which a lot of the time is infringing on copyright) puts the site at risk. I speculate it might have been because they were threatened with legal action from game publisher/s as to why this is now the norm.

So by doing these two things, it keeps the forum from hit and run registrations and also stems the flow of uploading, discussing how to reproduce or transmit copyrighted material.

SO do people that are already registere cana ccess the section where rippng is allowed?

Infernus Animositas
07-29-2014, 01:53 AM
You can still access it, but you aren't allowed to link to any copyrighted materials as they will be removed by the moderators.

For example The Crew (http://forum.xentax.com/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=11719) thread in the Game Archive section.

NCFirebolt21
07-29-2014, 03:16 AM
^I can't even look at that thread since I never made an account on xentax before this whole donation thing.

Honestly, seeing as the Shrine has branched out from Final Fantasy into a Film Score and VGM thread, I wonder if people would be open to having a ripping sub-forum on here... I'd like it to happen, actually!

I also had trouble with this. Alpha23 was able to help me out:

Use this: https://www.firedrive.com/file/45F3FCAB1BCE4E8D. The asf files are the old EA audio format. This is the ONLY program that supports them.

Thanks. WHY EA CUT THEIR MUSICS ?This is called "segmenting". I'm guessing it's either a pre-buffering method (to avoid unnecessary CPU usage) or points to an adaptive music system of the game.

Requires a 4.x 3DS by the way.

I wouldn't count on that. They are still trying to decrypt 3DS roms, and some sound formats are undocumented at the moment.
It is possible to copy it over the headphone jacket (which includes sound effects, and ripping it that way goes against this whole topic).
It is possible to dump the RAM and see pieces of the audio that way, but it's hard to do and as said before, it got undocumented audio formats.
Wait until they have found a way to decrypt the roms and you will probably find the native audio files in a folder, like the DS roms.

You can decrypt now. It's a bit iffy and needs a 4.x 3DS but it does work.
Most games should use bcstm anyway, which works with vgmstream.

Can you rip Madagascar the video game for the PS2? If you can't on the PS2, try the Gamecube/XBOX or PC version. I already ripped the game on the PS2, the sample rate is 22050 hz and 1 channel (mono). Interleave: 10 (or 0). But there are ALL OF THE MUSICS in 1 file, all of the musics that plays in the Mysterious Jungle, for example, are in the JUNGLEMU.RWS. If you can seperate all of the tracks, this will be coolNo requests for you at the moment, I JUST fulfilled TWO of yours. Please wait until next year.

EDIT: Alpha, I admit I am not understanding that much of the OST of the third age. the tempo also feels differentthan it appears to be on cd. possibly the game engine slows\ups it down? wonder if XBOX has different formats or if it would feature the same problem, similarly to the Revenge of the Sith game you ripped a long time ago

CS is cutscene or combat scene? from what I've heard it can be a mix of both, but would like your input on this.

I downloaded your 3 rips of Harry Potter 1. I converted the .ss2 for the ps2 rip with Foobar2000, this work fine. I don't know how to rip .bwav.comp. I renamed the .str into .dsp for the GC version and I converted them; but I have a pretty crappy quality, and very low low quality for the Xbox. (the .lwav)comp files are unplayable due to an unknown compression algorithm.
What's your point with the quality? That's how it is used in-game - nothing I could change... You can decode the *.lwav files with towav though. As far as I remember it doesn't produce as much noise.

Damn it. Alright, do what you can for ripping it. I collect gamerips of everything I've played in the hopes that the format gets cracked someday. I'm still keeping my hopes up for Hitman Absolution, Tomb Raider and 007 Blood Stone :)

I do have vgmstream on my foobar as well. They still don't work. I've had no problem with other UMX files (such as Unreal Tournament's, they work perfectly on both foobar and OpenMPT).

I've had no problem with other UMX files (such as Unreal Tournament's, they work perfectly on both foobar and OpenMPT).You can normally extract the IT and S3M tracks with Nova Extractor (nova Extractor - Haote.com Software Informer. (http://nova-extractor.software.informer.com/)).
Also note that the vgmstream plugin for foobar is different to the one for Winamp, i.e. if a track plays fine in Winamp it may be unsupported by the foobar plugin or vice versa.

I extracted the UMXs from HP1 using UTPT Unreal Tournament Package Tool (http://www.acordero.org/projects/unreal-tournament-package-tool/)

Turns out they are NOT tracker files, but merely containers for MP2 files. More info here: Problems importing UMX files (http://forum.openmpt.org/index.php?topic=4057.0)

This is too strange because I converted the .lwav with brstm converter or Foobar2000 and I have a crappy quality. But, when I scan this file with Extractor or Game Extractor, I have a good quality because .lwav is an archive which contain a .wav file. The extraction for these files are much better with these two softwares, but the quality is isn't still very good..

If you get worse quality after the converting, perhaps you should check some settings in your converting programs?
If the program is told to output a 112 bps mp3, then you wont get anything better than that.
And don't have too high hopes of "good quality", lots of games use compressed sub-CD quality in their games, even in their original source format.

Can I have the musics from the cutscenes in Harry potter and the sorcerer's stone game please?I couldn't find them in the PC version... Maybe they were ripped? Take a look for yourself please, I won't download the image again.

---------- Post added at 05:10 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:05 PM ----------

Quick update: Condemned 2 is quite problematic - the music somehow isn't extracted by the tool for the archives. I may need some help from external sources.
Pac-Man Museum uses an unknown compression method in the main archive. I will ask for help but I don't think anybody can help me in this case.
So... yeah, moving on to the other games from the list.

I ripped the PC version of Harry Potter an the Sorcerors Stone last year. I didn't find any rippable music from the cutscenes, but then again, I wasn't looking for music from the cutscenes.

Also, I was able to play the UMX files using some random media player I found online. I used to the player to convert them to WAV then uninstalled the player. I can't remember the name of the player though...

Dragon Unpacker is not a media player...

And I'm not sure what the format is for the HP PS2 cutscenes, but if it's the standard PSS format, the audio is most likely stereo. So if your looking for just the music from the cutscenes, you won't be able to get it.

Hello Alpha. Do some of these WWise games have control files in their directory., or have you found a way to find those files?

Alpha23
09-22-2014, 08:28 PM
Just look for *.txt files inside the Wwise directory with the *.bnk containers. Normally I merge the text files into one (something like "copy/b *.txt MAIN.txt"), then open it, copy the text into an Excel sheet, format it, make a renaming batch file out of it and run it. Note that I always choose to keep the folder structure (in the file names, a tilde is a substitute for a backslash).
For games without those txt control files I just keep the DIDX codes as file names. Of course you'll have to extract the AKPK archived with my script. ;)

Dark_Ansem
09-22-2014, 08:45 PM
this was not working for ME2, which didn't have those files at all... no .bnk containers..
