The American society seems to have a negative attitude torwards video games, in my opinion. The attitudes are getting better now, but video games are still viewed as being just for kids by the older generation, even though I’m 19 and still play them alot. Also, video games are often blamed for events like the Columbine shootings.
What do you think of this view on video games as being "just for kids"? How do other countries view video games?

"Computer games don’t affect kids; I mean if PACMAN affected us as kids, we’d all be running around in darkened rooms, munching magic pills and listening to repetitive electronic music." Kristian Wilson, Nintendo, 1989.
Maybe this is one reason?

The problem in society does not come from video games, we just live in a society that doen’t want to take responsibility for its actions. Hence, if we can blame television, or music, or our parents for what we do, we suddenly aren’t responsible for anything we do, and can then do anything we want.
I think that video games are becomming more and more accepted because people in my generation haven’t seemed to let go of them and as we get older, the more part of the population (wich includes us and those behind us) accepts video games.

Videogames can be good and bad. Playing a videogame to enjoy yourself once in a while is a good thing. However, if your like my uncle, and play Everquest 24/7, youll most likely end up in Divorce Court like he did. Games are all good when your a kid, but when you gotta grow up you gotta grow up right? Thankfully Im still a kid :p.

I hate how society looks on video games. "Waste of time" is all it is to them. Have you ever noticed how in cartoons, that they make the video games so corny? I don’t believe games were ever that corny. They make it look like such crap. But getting back to society, my best friend’s mom thinks that video games are a way to hypnotize children into becoming Japan’s allies…how sad is that? if you ask, I believe it’s becoming worse..

People are becoming more open about being gamers. I guess it’s acceptible now b/c rappers and famous athletes all have at least a PS2 and even mention their system and games in songs.
I think it’s dumb to blame video games for things like Columbine. IF it was like that we would all be totting guns and killing class mates.
