Welcome to this long-coming rumble! I'm sure you are familiar with how these work here at Shrine, if not, here's the general rules:


General Rules:
***Entrants in various categories will go against one another in one-on-one battles and each post will contain two battles, depending on the size of the rumble currently underway.

***A simple majority of votes results in a victory and ties will be decided by a coin-toss. The rumble master will cast votes.

***Updates will be every 2-3 days depending on the level of activity for a given rumble.

***Votes should be placed in bold using this convention: [ B ] Vote [ /B ], without the spaces, of course.

***Mild shenanigans will be tolered, as fun is the ultimate goal of this endeavor, however, each post must contain a valid vote(s). Extreme shenanigans will result in deleted posts. It's as simple as that.


The first edition will cover locations, and subsequent rumbles (if they happen) can be run by other individuals if they are willing to put in the work to write them. Some suggestions we have had:

***Feel free to be as verbose as you'd like as long as your votes are bolded. You can vote for them for any reason under the sun (e.g., the puzzles they house, the character interactions held therein, weapons gained, aesthetics, etc.), just elaborate that reason, if you can. Lair--The nightmare side of Brookhaven is disappointing to me. The lair has some nifty "weapon reclaimation" moments, a great, brutal cutscene, and brings together the 4 families mythology.

Riverside Motel Nightmare--The empty pool kinda makes this place remind me of Constantine, for some reason. Just a great last location that packs in a number of cool moments. Grand Hotel is bland, to me, too.

Hazel Street Subway Station--Jacob's Ladder, ftw. I got lost the first time, Allen. I was down there for hours because I never bothered to think that I needed to find a chain to cut. This was after I was lost in the Mall for hours because I didn't find the bleach, because I never thought there were two doors close to one another XD

Great level for just sustained creepiness if you stick around long enough.

Riverside Motel Nightmare- Giant-enemies, a peepshow...was there a toilet gag here? All in all an incredible area, packed with purpose.

Hazel Street Subway Station- Cos Alchemillia Origins is the weakest of the weak hospitals. Subway is funny. I like the completely unnecessary awesome opportunity to get killed by a ghost.

Toluca Prison - Probably one of the creepiest places in all of SH. Mainly because I have no idea where it actually is. Getting back out into the mist is a relief. And Nowhere is just a bunch of locations you've already visited.

I remember that part where you had to go out into that little courtyard where the gallows were, there was that weird sound like something was dragging in the dirt. I kept thinking something was going to run out of the darkness, so I kept turning around.

You really don’t want to go down there. Except, you have to, and there’s a giant headless pig creature waiting around the corner to JACK YOUR SHIT UP. Yeah.

Hard choices, for me anyway.

Room 302 - All things being equal, the isolation of 302 vibes with me. Luckily, I don't have any male stalkers to complete the experience. Or a giant hole next to my toilet.

Cedar Grove Sanitarium Nightmare - You'd think this would be an easy choice what with the museum being a glorified gateway to the next zone. But those stairs, man. Sanitarium has it beat in a lot of ways, but Remnants put it over massively imo that matters not at all.

Cedar Grove Sanitarium was pretty scary for 2nd generation graphics and porting from PSP.

Distant locations merged together seamlessly is just a great concept. In many ways--for some characters, at least--navigating Silent Hill as a whole is a process of navigating Alessa’s will/mind/consciousness as bourne out on the town. This is just a concentrated blast of such exploration.

I just remembered the nurses/doctors from the first Silent Hill... they still looked human, but had some sort of red lump on their backs... I'm glad they improved on their look and got rid of the doctors.

I found those one's more creepy. The nurses since then got shorter skirts, better bodies, and awesome boobage. Although I admit that the change is easy on the eyes, but I just find it odd how the game is creepy but when you get to the nurses, you can't help but think "boobies" :D.

And since I'm a booby kinda guy, of course I'd take notice of them and rate them accordingly ;).

The second shot is from Jacob’s Ladder. The hospital scene has influenced the entire series and this comes from it. The wheel is turning even though it has clearly been on the ground for a good while. This is used in the series for the wheelchairs that Harry can see in the alley and Heather can see in the basement of Brookhaven.
