I really like the Asuka, he got her down rather well. And while Rei is good too there's just a little something off about her. Maybe the lips are a bit big for her or something.
I agree that something feels off about Rei. It doesn't quite look like her. I love his art style though, it's so neat to see him take on non-comic characters.

I think you're right. She is rather tight looking and strict when she should be more blank and stuff. Make the mouth half size and adjust the eyes a bit.

Carmine Falcone, Scare Crow, Ra's al Ghul in Begins.

I hope so too. I really hate when character deaths are glossed over in any medium like this. I think starting a new relationship would be a good way to bring some of it up. I know they might not be able to get Maggie or Katie back, but they could still do childhood flashbacks or use footage from TDK.

Plus it's a great way to set up characters for future movies. Fuck sony and Stan Lee for scarring off Raimi so we'll never see that guy who played Connors do a Lizard movie. Plus that's a little plot hole if you think about it; he never fingered Bruce as Batman, all he did was point out that Batman was using a lot of Wayne tech and that there's a bunch of money unaccounted for. Fox was the one who more or less confirmed it to be Bruce and with how Dark Knight ended I would think that the police, FBI, and national security would not just leave Reese alone and make him spill the beans one way or another.

I've started out reading Ultimate Spider-Man. I heard a lot of bad things about Ultimate Marvel, so I first bought a paperback containing the first few issues. Aside from a few weird design choices (like, why the fuck has the Green Goblin turned into the Green Orc?), it actually doesn't seem that bad. I'm gonna continue on to see if it continues with a solid story or if it turns apeshit weird.

04-09-2011, 07:24 PM
Runaways hasn't really felt like Runaways since Joss Whedon finished his run, so I miss it less than I might've otherwise. Kathryn Immonen certainly had a better handle on the characters than Terry Moore did, but it still wasn't clicking for me. It's a hard bunch of characters to write for, I think. Testament to how well Brian K. Vaughan created them. I don't doubt the editorial change-ups at Marvel had an effect on whatever their re-tooling plans for the book were, and I guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens.
Would be nice if they could lure Bryan K. Vaughan back. Feel like he's been MIA from the writing world for a while now. LOST SEASON SIX COULD HAVE USED YOU, MAN!

Pretty close! It's Man-of-Bats and Red Raven. Believe they're originally from a Silver Age story called "Batmen of the World" about heroes around the world who were inspired by Batman. Grant Morrison pulled them into the current continuity. Knight and Squire have similar origins.

What all are you selling, and what do you want for them? I might buy some, if you're cool with selling them over the internet.
Craigslist is probably good for comic selling too. You could try selling a whole longbox of them for a bigger amount, might be easier to get someone to take them all that way.

They tend to be fairly random, but a lot of them are stuff like 'manga in comic book form' and same random Preacher/Lucifer stuff.

I have a lot of stuff I want to grab this year. Last year my comic shop let me take pretty much as much as I wanted, so I'm hoping that happens again. If I could only grab 5, I'd probably get the Avatar comic, Green Lantern Flashpoint, Super Dinosaur Origin, Spontaneous #1 and the Young Justice/Brave and the Bold Sampler.
Last year my store had the Heroclix, but they didn't have that many and I didn't *really* want it, so I left it for the people that would. I'm a lot more enthused about the Green Lantern one, but I'll probably do the same thing this year. It'd have to be something I was really excited about to take it when there clearly aren't enough for everyone.
Is anyone dressing up or doing anything fun like that? I am probably just wearing a superhero t-shirt. Nothing special.

You should go naked in blue paint as movie Mystique and I'll go as the Flesh, who's super strong and super naked then all we'll need is a guy to go as Dr. Manhattan. Are there any other naked heroes I'm forgetting that aren't animal people with just shirts on?

I thought it was well written for what it was. I mean 75 years is a lot to cover so I'm sure things were left out but, the info that is included is very well written. I enjoyed it simply because I didn't know too much about the early years. Otherwise if you enjoy DC comics, I'm sure you'll like it to some extent. Though trying to find it for a reasonable price is only thing that will matter.

If stores are worried about running out, they'll usually limit how many comics you can take. Only thing I feel guilty about grabbing are the Heroclix figures since my store just doesn't get many, and I'm sure some people really want them.

Some stores set limits, like only 5 comics, 10 comics, and others let you grab as many issues as you want. I've never heard of a place that only lets you take one comic.

My shop was absolutely swarmed today. I would say at least 4 times more people than last year. There were some people coming up to shop at Talbot's and I could hear them trying to figure out what the line was for. It was pretty fun. Owner took a ton of pictures, he seems really excited about the turnout.
Free comics haul:
Discount comics haul (all of these were a dollar or less):
Almost grabbed a $6 Impulse figure but ultimately didn't get it. Checked Walmart and Target to see if I'd get lucky and find Dex-Starr, but no luck.
My shop didn't have a couple issues I wanted, like that Spontaneous comic, so I wanted to hit up some more of the shops in the area, but it was the Pride Parade in Northampton today and the city was swarmed. Cops out re-directing traffic and everything. Oh well. Hopefully it'll get scanned, it sounded really neat and I like getting a chance to check this stuff out.

Hi guys.
First a lil background. =P
I'm working in a bookstore, and we have some comics. I of course buy them there and I also purchase a specific merchandise, the Marvel Classic Figurine Collection (
http://www.marvel-figurines.co.uk/). These figurines are hand-painted, limited (with number =P), about 10 cm high and made of lead. To each figurine, there's a booklet that describes the character. The whole package comes in a plastic bag. Standard price varies from 15 to 25 dollars depending on vendor and whatnot.
Alright, so. One of the figurines we ordered came here slightly damaged. It's the figurine of Blade, vampire hunter. This sells on Amazon (
http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=marvel+classic+collection+blade&rh=i%3Aaps%2Ck%3Amarvel+classic+collection+blade&ajr=0) for 25 bucks. We got a replacement, but we have this damaged one left over we hardly can sell, so maybe one of you guys would like it?
The damage is really neglectable, actually. It was just the katana in his hand that was slightly bent. I repaired it by bending it back (luckily lead is flexible like that). From both the damage and the repair, the color went off a bit, but you hardly can make it out since the blade color is almost the same as the base lead color of the figurine. Aside from that, the figurine is completely new and the seal was only broke open to repair the figurine and make pictures - I have resealed it after my fix and photographing.
Here you have some pics. It's a handycam, so excuse the horrible quality:
I'll have your offers for the figurine, I don't really care for how much it goes away - though you'll have to put up with the shipping entirely, I don't wanna make a loss for sending this out. A couple of bucks beyond that would be cool but not necessary.
I accept payment through PayPal and if you live in the Euro Zone, I'll also take a bank transfer. =)

Are Angry Comic Book Fans Better for Sales? [Poll] - ComicsAlliance | Comic book culture, news, humor, commentary, and reviews (
http://www.comicsalliance.com/2011/05/11/angry-comic-book-fans-sales/)
Saw this yesterday and I thought it was a good and enlightening, if frustrating read.

Mandi, how do you feel about the impending DC reboot? Are we soon to share an even closer bond in anguish over continuity disruptions, or is it no big deal?
p.s. I'm going to mail your comics this week, I swear. Still have them set aside, I'm just awful at actually doing stuff
Marceline
06-01-2011, 04:18 PM
I'm not sure if they're actually rebooting everything or just restarting every comic at number one. Most news sites seem to be reporting an out and out reboot, but the DC blog just says they're renumbering. Anyways, if they're just restarting the numbers, I'm irrationally annoyed about it, because I really like the special issues they do for big numbers and there were some I was looking forward to getting.
If they are indeed rebooting everything? I'll try and be cautiously optimistic about it. The last time I was really angry about DC having TOO MUCH CHANGE all their risks paid off hugely, and I do think that Crisis on Infinite Earths was great for DC, as a whole. It'll probably just hurt a bit to lose some of that continuity. I love knowing little details about the characters and their relationships that you can only know by reading years and years worth of comics. And even though I know all the great stories I love still exist it'll suck to know that stuff like Gothic, which has hugely shaped my ideas about Batman, isn't actually in continuity. Grant Morrison managed to work an awful lot of Silver Age into modern continuity, so there's hope, I guess.
Send them whenever you can! I always have a ton to read so waiting for comics is no big deal. :)

Rep+1 for this.
Yesterday I had my best ever "what I would do if I were a pro comics writer" story idea. It was a Mad Max style post-apocalypse story set in the Marvel universe. Most of the biggest heroes and villains are dead, but some aren't, and the whole country is a wasteland with little left in the way of civilization (the exact reason for the apocalypse never being made explicitly clear). The story would be about an ordinary character who finds an old piece of iron man's armor while salvaging and it turns out that a gang of wasteland thugs are looking for it. He eventually escapes them to a settlement where there's an aging man who works restoring old pre-apocalypse technology for the townsfolk, who turns out to be Peter Parker late in life.
When the thugs track the protagonist to the settlement Peter helps him escape, but discovers the armor piece and explains that he and several other people have been looking for old versions of the armor for decades. The protagonist agrees to help him find the rest. Peter says they're going to need help and they travel to another settlement that's a pseudo military installation that specializes in trying to wipe out desert raiders. It's lead by Steve Rogers, who has barely aged and is still in top shape. He doesn't seem to have his shield though. Peter shows him the armor piece and he agrees to help them look for the rest of it. Steve sets a trap for the gang who's been chasing them looking for the armor piece and beats information out of one of them about why they want it.
Turns out there's someone offering a lifetime supply if water and weapons to anyone who can bring him pieces of the armor, but they don't seem to have a name. They explain where they were supposed to take the armor piece to and the group decides to take it there themselves to see if they can find anyone with connections to other pieces. On the way Peter explains to the protagonist that the reason everyone wants the armor isn't just because in this world it would be an almost unbeatable weapon. The bigger reason is to try to recreate its power source, because the world is out of any kind of advanced power source and this could help restart civlization, or it could be used to power a shitload of advanced weapons if you wanted to go that route.
That's all I came up with so far. Obviously the story would go on. Also there would be many details inbetween and I'd want to use cameos from old Marvel characters, preferably a lot of lesser known ones to make things more interesting. Would this make a good comic book y/n.

Would this make a good comic book y/n.
y!
Have you seen James Stokoes' Spider-Man in ‘Nam fan comic? Get him to do the art.

I'm always up-to-date with reading 'Invincible'. One of my best friends buys shit-tons of comics, usually in graphic-novel form, and I'll frequently borrow some from him.
He yesterday lent me 'Batman: Dark Victory' (seemingly a sequel to 'The Long Halloween') and the first collection volume of 'Powers'.

Yeah, I started reading Walking Dead but haven't really read much of it. I have the same taste it seems as my friend does, so I'll just take his reccomendations, he seems to think it starts feeling a bit empty and baseless as it gets on. I'll have to carry on with it at some point though.

New Marvel figurines means new shitty photos of em!
First, we have the Avengers-related characters the Leader, Scarlet Witch and of course Hercules. Loving his laughing face, it's so Herc, heh.
Next up we got 2 Fantastic Four-related characters and Cosmic ones to boot; Super-Skrull and Black Bolt.
Then we have a blast from Capcom's past with 2 MvC2 X-Men veterans who did not make the cut for MvC3. For Psylocke, I am sad, but I'm glad Cable didn't make it in, don't like the character at all, lul.
3 classic Spider-Man villains take their places on my overcrowded Spidey-display: Electro, Mysterio, and the Vulture - possibly the lamest Spidey-villain EVER. And yes, I did take Shocker into consideration for this.
Lastly, 2 characters who didn't fit anywhere else - Dormammu now is standing next to Dr. Strange, while Luke Cage is brofisting it up with Iron Fist.
Quite satisfied with my progress in the collection; for some reason most of the X-Men characters, the Hulk, Ghost Rider and Namor (wait wat? o.O), are ever-elusive. However, with almost 60 figurines, my display is starting to look like a display. Well, except for the X-Men one, there's still a loooot of guys missing there, hah.

I like how we got to see Batman actually try to talk out the problems between him and one o his villains. It makes sense for him to do that and goes with his no killing life saving deal.

So...is anyone reading anything new?
I've been picking up various new DC titles. Only thing on Marvel's side I've gotten so far is Ultimate Comics x-men & Ultimate Comics Spidey.
Otherwise only odd ball titles I've picked up were three trades since they were on sale. Picked up Fall Out Toy Works and Vol. 2 & 3 of Thundercats.

Hmm, really? I thought at least some of the #1's would be all right. I was very skeptical about the 'New 52' to begin with. Guess my assumptions were right. Anyway, the last comic I read was 'Blackest Night'.
Yeah, the #1's have been...mixed.
But, it's not really a 'reboot' - Issue 1 should be an origin story, if they're all reboots, and...well, they're not.

I only read comics in cbr format now. Saves trees. I like Wonder Woman, Spiderman, Green Arrow, Superman, Batman, and anything old and creepy Tales From The Crypt, Marvel Dracula etc. My most prized possession comics-wise are the few Gold Key Dark Shadows comics I have and my complete Fright Night comic set. Took me a while to complete those, but it was a mission of love. :)

I'm surprised nothing has been mentioned in this thread as of late. I've kept up here and there since comics is where I spend most of my money these days. Anyhow, best new read for me is "Wolverine and the X-Men". Who would have thought Wolverine opening up a school would bring me back to the X universe...well that is till next week when Avengers: X-Sanction comes out.
Picked up Batman Noel as well. I just love the art for this one. Could really give less of a care about the narrative and such.
Dropped my DC list down by two titles. Decided to drop Superman & Red Lanterns. Both were just flat out a boring read.
