@ Goisles01 and all those who have contributed for this awesome collection of Music from one of the best anime series ever, a very heartfelt THANK YOU.

Is it possible for anyone to re-upload the Eternal Edition CDs? Some of the DL links are dead. Also, even though not Yamato, they belong to the Leijiverse, does anyone have the soundtracks for Galaxy Railways, DNA Sights 999.9 and Cosmowarrior Zero?

Once again, thanks to you all.

Which ones do you need?

Leijiverse music can be pretty hard to find. I don't think I've seen the Galaxy Railways bgm anywhere and the only music from Cosmo Warrior Zero that seems to be around is the game soundtrack.

Which ones do you need?

I had EE 0+1 and EE 4 in CD form and managed to DL 7, 8 and 9, along with part 1 of the 2+3 set but the remaining links are dead.

Leiji Matsumoto is God in my book and SB Yamato has been my classic favorite since i first saw it in 1991 (though my favorite Matsumoto character is Cap. Harlock) going as far as to buy the PS and PS2 games just for the animation clips ( idi finish both PS games though. LOL)Getting these soundtracks became increassingly dificult so your thread was a Godsend for me.

I apreciate any help you can give me.

Thank you so, so very much, goisles01.

As for the Captain Harlock EE, the only ones i have were found on these forums. The only CDs i have are the 1st volume of Harlock Saga-Der Ring Des Nibelungen and SPCH-Endless Odissey, wich are also being shared here. I'll check on some OST Backup Discs i have but as far as i remember i only have the Original TV score CD, The Symphonic Suites, My Youth In Arcadia OST and Volume 2 of Harlock Saga. If i find any of those you're looking for, i'll post them.

Once again, thank you so very much.

I hadn't realized this link had expired.

Yamato The Best II (Eternal Edition 11) (http://www.sendspace.com/file/77rwzb)
192k, 20 tracks, 72 minutes.

I don't like to be rude, but this is being posted because the link has expired, not because Cinestampa has posted 4 times about it in two days on two threads.

If it was only his requests, I wouldn't bother.

Remember, be patient. One post is enough. As has been repeated by any number of people on this forum, excessive posts will result in zero uploads.

Thank you so very much for your generosity, this is a real gem!! I remember having gen-to-gen copies of the karaokes and English Yamato songs on cassette, thirsting for any form of Yamato soundtrack music no matter the quality! Ah this brings back memories when Star Blazers made its impact on fandom in the early 80's and the fellow fan I befriended who was incredibly generous in lending me her BGM tapes!

Thank you again, your generous effort is deeply appreciated and wish I had better words to express my gratitude!!!!

Files no. 8 & 9 - Final Yamato
This is the last double-CD package in the Series, and it's as complete as any Final Yamato music collection needs to be. Of all the different parts in the Yamato saga, Final Yamato got more album coverage than any other film, including an "image album" that predated the release of the movie itself. Not all of that material ended up on this CD, but unless you're a diehard completist, this set should keep you satisfied until the appearance of some future compendium. Disc two in this set includes some solo-piano versions of classic Yamato themes.

4. 若者たち (宇宙戦艦ヤマト新たなる旅立ちBGM)/Youth (Yamato New Journey BGM)

I collected most of the Yamato CD's back in the 90's when they were re-issued.
But, I could never find "Yamato: I Adore the Eternity of Love". (never reissued)

I found the link in the beginning thread, but it is dead. :-(
Could someone be kind enough to share that one.

According to an article on Sci-Fi Japan (http://www.scifijapan.com/articles/2009/12/19/yamato-rebirth-an-eyewitness-account-of-the-new-beginning/) I just read there are FOUR CDs out for the new movie as of Dec. 16th. The CD singles are different mixes of the song as well as the Yamato theme and the like.

Yes, the last track is sung by The Alfee. I got one of the CD Singles (didn't know there were 3, not really sure wich one i have) from a asian torrent site (i don't know if i can say wich one) in MP3 at 320 kbps, riped by LonE. Contains 3 tracks, "Dedicate My Love" (normal and karaoke versions) and "Uchuu Senkan Yamato 2009 with Symphonic Orchestra". If anyone wants it, i'll be happy to post. If anyone wants it in Lossless, it is also available at the afore mentioned torrent site.

Finally had a chance to listen to Yamato Rebirth. Interesting. the classical pieces use the same sort of arrangement that was used in Be Forever and Final. Even the Yamato tracks seem to be new arrangements.

The one part that has me confused is the second to the last track, Metzler. Supposedly, if it doesn't have a composer's name attached, it should be, at most, a rearrangement of Miyagawa piece. But I don't recognize it. If anybody out there does, could they tell me where it originally came from? If not, does anybody know who composed it?

Thank you again for this,

Yeah i noticed that after I posted my question. But having the sound track to the movie is enough for now. I haven't had a chance to listen to it yet, passed out while it was downloading. (too much open beta of STO this week and not enough sleep)

Did anyone see the new movie? Is the music that "classical" in it or is it a "recording" of the music, will there be an actual movie ost? like the track where the new version of the theme is heard.

JonC
01-16-2010, 01:29 AM
What you hear on the soundtrack is the movie score. (Or at least the album version of it.) Given that both Miyagawa and Henada are both gone, Nishizaki has aparently felt there isn't anybody yet who can take on the mantle of Yamato composer.

Of course, I don't know if that will be true for the live action film, or any sequels to Rebirth. (And I still don't know the story, as posted before, about the track called Metzler.)

So there mabe a real ost someday to be released maybe they rushed this out to please fans. Let's hope Isoa will sing the theme one last time for the film, and hopefully a great score as well,
Shio Sagisui Yoko Kano are two who come to mind who could pull it off.

JonC
01-16-2010, 02:54 AM
No, this isn't rushed out. This isn't to please the fans. This is the OST. While there is the chance that there might be an Eternal Edition at some point in the future, based on the difference, say between the Arriverderci Symphonic Suite and the Eternal Edition, I would expect not much more than different arrangements on what we've heard.

Believe me, if the movie had genuinely new music, it would have been released by now.

My search for the Yamato 2520 Original Soundtrack has proven pretty fruitless. But along the way I picked up what I guess must be a pretty obscure related release, the single of the 2520 series theme song by Tokio.

My search for the Yamato 2520 Original Soundtrack has proven pretty fruitless. But along the way I picked up what I guess must be a pretty obscure related release, the single of the 2520 series theme song by Tokio.

He may be referring to the Yamato 2520 OST (http://www.amazon.co.jp/YAMATO-2520-%E3%82%AA%E3%83%AA%E3%82%B8%E3%83%8A%E3%83%AB%E3%8 2%B5%E3%82%A6%E3%83%B3%E3%83%89%E3%83%88%E3%83%A9% E3%83%83%E3%82%AF-David-Matthews/dp/B00005G6VY/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1264079828&sr=1-2) which is not the same thing as Yamato 2520 Original Music Themes 1, which is what is on this list.

Yup. The OST was released later than the original themes and had an expanded track list, from what I understand.

It was Released Under The Name "Space Battleship Yamato '83", Track Number 17 On The "Space Battleship Yamato Eternal File 10"

Remember That After Yamato Sinks The Song Picks Up After A Bit, This Is The Same On The Track, It Starts Slow Then Picks Up The Beat. :D

By chance I tried the download links for Eternal File 00 & 01.

Part 2 has no functioning links.

Perhaps they are in the process of reloading, in which case I should try back later.

Hi all,

Just want to say "Thanks" to all who contributed to this thread. I'm sure Mr. Miyagawa and Mr. Haneda would be very happy to see their works appreciated by all. Its great to get to hear all the music that i've never though id hear apart form the more accessible releases. The Yamato dicso album is a hoot, love the Comet Empire track.
I have a question concerning yamato music and the Comet Empire in Yamato part 2 (t.v. series). The Comet Empire fortress heads to earth and lands in the sea causing some flooding to the coastal towns these scenes are accompanied by characters looking horrified and defeated it then cuts to the Yamato embedded in Desslars ship which cuts to the two men facing off in their dramatic duel. That episode ends there, so now on to the real question, has the music that goes along with those scenes ever been released?

I do believe(i'm really not sure) the duel face off music is on one of the cds present in this thread but is that quiet composition that goes along with Gatlantis in the sea on any of these releases? If anyone has that info can you give me a heads up.

I do have about 90% of the uploads in this thread on Yamato (thanks again) but i don't seem to recall if those tracks above were ever released.

Well just wanted to ask that and to say i appreciate all the help with uploading the great music for Yamato. Hope to hear from you.

Thanks.

P.

Here's another masterpiece for you... I do love it when a composer is offered a massive recording budget, a bit pot of money, and is asked to just do whatever the hell he wants to do. You tend to end up with pieces like this; true 21st century masterpieces. My knowledge of Yamato music is limited (well, non-existent) but I understand that this symphony incorporates melodies from previous Yamato incarnations -into four splendidly structured movements that feel like they've fallen straight out of the late romantic classical period. The fourth movement in particular becomes a mini concerto for piano, violin and orchestra. ABSOLUTELY STUNNING STUFF.

Enjoy :)

To everyone who contributed here, THANK YOU for finally fulfilling my dream to have all of the Yamato 2 music. I bought the original laserdisc set for Yamato 1 just for the music on the end of each disc. At the time, it was the most comprehensive collection (it still is, every track of eternal is here too) and all of the tracks of a certain genre are next to each other, much more cohesive. Anyway, I'm not sure how to upload music, so if anyone wants to, I own the original Yamato '83 45 rpm record which has Karaoke versions of the 2 tracks on the B-side. I can email them to someone if they would like to upload them to share with everyone else. Also, I have a much better copy of I Adore the Eternity of Love than the one that's posted if anyone would like to do the same with that. Thanks again to everyone!

Thank you. Thank you. I cannot reiterate this enough: thank you. The enormous amount of time every contributor spent is astounding. To think that a fandom can bond so closely and share so! To think that literally every other fandom I have observed is full of squabbling, conflicting factions like some kind of sprawling civil war of teenagers! (Maybe it's because most Yamato fans seem to be adults or at least know how to behave civilly.) Again: thank you. To think that before I found this thread, I had ten bad low-quality rips from my DVDs with the voices half-audible throughout! Thank you thank you thank you.

Goisles, I have done it! At long last I have got my hands on the "Disco Yamato" album, and since you've been so generous with your finds, I've decided to share it here with you and the rest of the Yamato fans.

Yamato: I Adore the Eternity of Love

There were certain tracks of music featured in Yamato series 2 that were not included on the Eternal Edition CDs. They're only available on the extremely hard-to-find and long out-of-print album called Yamato: I Adore the Eternity of Love. It is what we would call today a remix album, containing disco versions of many popular Yamato themes. It was released on LP in Japan way back in 1978, and is now a coveted collectors item.

However, that coveted collector's item can now be a part of your Yamato music library!

I Adore the Eternity of Love

I've uploaded a MUCH higher quality version of the album "Disco Yamato - I Adore the Eternity of Love". I appreciate the one up'd above, but it had quite a bit of record "pop's/ hissing". You can get the higher quality version here:

The album for Yamato Rebirth is the score. With both Hisagawa and Haneda gone, Nishizaki decided to use a score ENTIRELY of old Yamato cues and classical music. (And the Alfee track)

The upcoming live action movie features an entirely original score by Naoki Sato. Instinct tells me it's going to be quite something. Wouldn't surprise me if he doesn't incorporate themes from previous incarnations of Yamato, though.

The film isn't due for release in Japan until December, though... so we've got at least another six months to wait for any kind of score release. :(

Yamato Rebirth is one disc. That's it. The only other recordings, (and I haven't checked the links lately but they have all been posted,) is the Yamato Rebirth Symphony 2009, which is a rerecording of the much earlier 1984 Grand Symphony Yamato, and The Alfee Yamato Rebirth single. But if you got the first album that's the important bit.

Unless Goisles01 is WAY off their game, we'd have all heard about (and probably had links for,) any follow up material. I haven't found anything new on Amazon Japan.

well thats odd, cause its missing a bunch of the songs that were in the freaking movie... like MOST of the songs, and that dosent change the fact that the star blazers theme is dead, any chance of a repost?

JonC
06-19-2010, 04:43 PM
What do you mean by most of the songs? Do you mean songs (with lyrics and singers,) or instrumental tracks? I still haven't had a chance to see Yamato Rebirth yet, and I can't remember where I found it, but I read an interview about Rebirth's music where the producer said that for this film only classical music and new arrangements of old Yamato tracks would be used. I haven't found a new composer connected with it, just Miyagawa (deceased,) Haneda (deceased,) and Naoto Otomo (who's I can only find as a conductor, and not as a composer.) Now since the soundtrack is only 65 minutes, and the film is 135, one would expect that there is a lot of missing music. And again, I haven't yet listened to the film itself. Are what you're hearing a) new versions of old Yamato music, or b) classical music, and that may mean something that's really obscure?

Of course, there may actually be new music, and it just may mean that none of the sources I've found list whoever composed it, but in any event, there aren't any more albums. We had to wait a few years for the Eternal Editions of the other movies, so regardless of the nature of the missing Yamato music, we're likely to wait several more years before an Eternal Edition of Rebirth comes out.
JonC

k0m0t0
06-20-2010, 03:12 AM
it was mostly remakes of old songs, thats what i want, on the CD that you do have, there is a remix of the New Cosmo Tigers that sounds amazing, in the movie there are a whole bunch of remixes like that of old classic tunes, you can even hear a few in the trailers that arnt on that soundtrack you have

and if you havent seen the new movie, i highly recommend it, there are alot of inside jokes for fans and some characters that have been left out for years and years, there are even some funny moments that make fun of star blazers, making jokes about the argo

Thanks for putting up this wonderful music, especially the Disco Yamato album.

This is a little off topic. Does anyone have a complete track list of what music is used in the films and what CD's they are on? I would like to make complete soundtracks of the films. I would really love to do Final Yamato because it features music from all 3 seasons of the TV series and music from Be Forever and probably Arrivederci and New Journey. I could probably watch the movie myself and pick through my CD's, but that would take much more time than I have right now. I think it would be nice to have all of the music in one place whether it be on two or three CD's or one playlist instead of scattered out between about a dozen CD's with alternate cues not used in the film. I like most of the alternate cues too, but I would like to make a complete soundtrack that is close to what is actually used in the movie. What do you guys think?

I'm sur Goisles01 would be a better authority then I, but I'm pretty sure that since more music was released specifically for Final then any other Yamato project, if you get those, you've pretty much got every note that played in the film and then some.

The most comprehensive guide i know of can be found at http://www.starblazers.com/home.php ,
spanning every aspect of this anime classic that is Yamato, from music to video to merchandising, old and new.
The music section at http://www.starblazers.com/html.php?page_id=258 provides an overall history of Yamato music. At the bottom of the page you find links for pages dedicated to each chapter of this saga, each one with a full discography and lots of interesting facts. A true treasure trove for any Yamato/Star Blazers fan.

I just had an HD failure too but I was able to recover all of my data. It's still a pain re-formating and organizing everything again. And going through all of those dvd backups are no fun as well.

Good luck.
A solid database is a most. Mine is on a series of excel worksheets. (You can never have enough data fields.)

Just saw the film(no subs) and as a Yamato fan i am sorely disappointed. Its official that Mr.Nishizaki can not tell a story without the guidance of Mr.Matsumoto(Et Al) combination. Yamato 3 poor story and animation(yes i know of the production probs), Yamato 2520 horrible story telling(great art and design wasted, so sad), and I'll have to throw in all those Great Yamato series too. Although that's connected to Mr. Matsumoto. Its so sad, Japan cant tell a story anymore. They cant even come together to make Yamato a success. (they are trying to compete in a market "money wise" in the American market that they cant win and that's the Death Knell for "True"anime). True equaling pure Japanese story telling not marketed story by committee garbage. Pokemon,Hentai, etc..

The sub par video game CG animation fluctuates from bad to laughable(Look at the Cosmo Zero fly off into the distance), and contrasts sharply against the poorly designed and animated 2d character animation. There is a shot (a hold cell really) of Sanada San that is unforgivable as an animator and I'm not sure how it passed checking, its an up shot of him and his right eye is so badly drawn i laughed out loud. TV productions I can some what understand when you run out of time and need to hack but never for a motion picture. There's also very few shadows on the characters which makes them look absurdly flat against some of the CG backgrounds. (a lot of it seems to have been done in Korea. check the credits, there's a lot of Korean companies.) That's bad. Looks like they were "again" struggling with cash, this happened with Yamato part 3 seems people didn't want to associate with Mr. Nishizaki and from what i know about him from the animators that I've spoken too and articles that I've read, hes the equivalent of a Selznick or Jack Warner. He says he loves Yamato but i don't see it here. You can see an enormous amount of love in Final Yamato,a beautiful and complex production that pushed Yamato art and animation, now Yamato has the flat canned look of a Cartoon Network original production or Saturday morning animation.

The "death" of one of the major characters had me fuming (now mind you all i don't understand Japanese 100% so who knows what dialog was spoken about it but their reaction was flat and emotionless, i was very disappointed) It was perversely laughable and to a character that a lot of the major human drama in Yamato hinged on. Kodai has more character spark when hes slapping the ass of a cadet then the death of this character. This storytelling is starting to stink like a liberal sci-fi writer, RD Moore rape fest of great characters, reduced to non emotional card board cut outs.

The Direction was flat and passionless, it had no cinematic "ummph"(I'm glad they didn't go through the whole reveal the Yamato thing for too long, conversely they should have excised the Yamato launch, same ole same ole, with the thorn in your eye rock song Yamato theme. (Sigh marketing)

Music -I love classical music but the tracks here don't help or support the so called drama where ever they are used, in fact a lot of it is a tad distracting. Again no money for original compositions, so a resort to old temp tracks with a few songs(that don't fit since there is no real drama to it) (I'm into soundtracks so its something i feel when watching classical scores slapped haphazardly onto film).

The "Action" is a non-engaging over aggressive mess of things we've seen over and over again. The SUS conglomerate or whatever they are all have scenes that show the leader of each empire, planet, forces or whatever die in a bridge explosion, it was too much they did it to many times and the therefore we become used to it. They are bad, Okay, they die in the same way.
This goes for the non-involving character of Metsu(sp?)(maybe some of the dialog explains his reluctance to wipe out Yamato, certainly some of the action/confrontation explains hes not a happy camper but its too rushed) The tank battle against the Arab styled city and inhabitants is starting to stink of anti American involvement in the middle east area. We don't need that with Yamato Mr. Nishizaki, we don't need that.

I wish there was something i could find that i liked with this film but i cant, Okay i like Kodai with the Beard all grungy, they should have stayed with that. Maybe it would have explained why he is no longer emotional as a character, but i doubt it. Anyway sorry if i stepped on anyone's toes here, I had to rant, i was so looking forward to a new Yamato but I'm saddened and depressed that this and that horrible looking live action Yamato abomination are the final nails in this coffin. I'm so sad.
/rant
Laters.

P.S. The version i have is a 2 hr and 15 minuet version, so isn't there a 2 hr 35 min version? I'm not sure. That version maybe the one that allows the characters to be real. Who knows.

The live action film looks awesome. I hope it will be released here at least on blu-ray and DVD.

Thank you so much for all of the albums -- I had nearly all of these on LP ages ago, and still on cassette tape now, but those tapes are ancient and don't play well, and I am so grateful to be able to hear all the beautiful music again. Thank you!

Request for translator

Hey, would any generous Nihonjin be willing to translate the sleeve notes for any of the CDs? I'd like to try and get the music in broadcast order of the episodes and movies, and from the translation I've seen of EE#4, the sleeve notes do that.[COLOR="Silver"]

Thanks. I have only done Final so far. I hadn't planned on doing the TV episodes, but I may eventually. My next project will be Be Forever. I did Final first because I knew it would be the hardest one since there are so many CD's for it and since it takes music from everything before it.

I am also looking for the 2520 OST (SRCL 3487). I have the other CD called 2520 Theme Soundtrack (SRCL 3118). Thanks.

This is the track listing I have for my Yamato 2520:

My understanding is that the live action feature doesn't come out until December. You're a little early. It's a pretty sure bet that when somebody here gets it, they'll post it.

Don't sweat it, it'll turn up eventually.
It took Nishisaki 30 years to make a live action Yamato, you can wait a while longer for the soundtrack.

Yes, but did you see in the sidebar that Yoshinobu Nishizaki, the co-creator of Yamato fell off his boat and DROWNED!!! He is dead RIGHT before the movie is released! The Anime world has lost a GIANT in the genre an innovator and marketing genius! :(

Hi there, I'm thinking about making a thread on this forum site that's only dedicated to the music of Leiji Matsumoto's anime series and related. Since there's so many threads. And most of them contain links that are either dead or forgotten. I'm going to have just one comprehensive thread. Combining my collection and yours from the Leiji-Verse. Furthermore, most of what I have has already been ripped by most of you guys. Though, A bunch of CD's that have been ripped are in Japanese. Or have missed matched song titles. Since I know Japanese, I'm going to fix this problem. As well as re-upload most of what I have. Since re-ripping most of the same albums that have already been ripped is pointless xD All credits will go to the original rippers.

On a big side note, I'm currently translating a bunch of Leiji-Verse manga series. I might include download links on the same music thread once they've been scanned in English xD

For those asking, the soundtrack for the live action movie, composed by Naoki Sato, comes out December 1st (acording to CD-Japan) while Steven Tyler's single was released November 24th.

Just Download The Rar, And You Guys Know The Rest LOL

And yes indeed it was a tragedy to hear about Nishizaki, He will be GREATLY Missed, i can only hope he got to see what the film was like before he died, of course knowing the Japanese people and the "Yamato Spirit" lol I have no trouble seeing him spiritually attending the world premier.

Irony he fell of the research ship YAMATO, irony indeed. Well i suppose its only fitting right?

macdawson
12-01-2010, 05:27 PM
As much as i value the massive influence Leiji Matsumoto had on Yamato, fact is without Nishizaki it wouldn't even exist. For that alone i will always cherish his memory. From what i've read the live action film seems to be pretty much a one shot deal (not going to say why (spoilers)) but i hope that the animated saga gets to go on despite his death. That seemed to be the plan, with Rebirth being just the first film. And thanks for the single, joeschmotz. Hopefully someone will share the score soon, Naoki Sato is a great composer and i would love to ear his take on Yamato.

I read some of the music from the original tv show is used in the new score. Looking forward to hearing this and hope to see the movie in the US soon.

JonC
12-02-2010, 02:15 PM
You're more likely to see a bootleg version on line than you are a dubbed version in the US. (And the odds of it turning up in a theater here are basically zero.) Aside from all the other issues associated with bringing it here, the big one is that the American rights for Yamato are a train wreck. (Keep in mind that the long delay in anything showing up in Japan was the rights fight between Nishizaki and Matsumoto.)
With Nishizaki's death, any new projects, including selling the rights to the live action film or last years animated feature will have to wait until his estate settles down. This could be a straightforward matter, but I don't feel this likely.
It took about six months for a digital copy of last years feature to make it online here, so expect to wait about that long for the new movie. Longer if you want subtitles.
An official release, if there is one, would almost certainly be longer.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news,
JonC

Well, im not a fan of the Steven Tyler song, but it doesnt sound that much worse that the current crop of J-rock songs that feature in movies, even has the same tone as the song from Otoko-tachi no Yamato..Ill live with it.
But here are 5- 14 minute long making of Yamato segments, no subtitles, but if the misc music in the background is anything to go by the soundtrack will be the most dynamic soundtrack ever written...

22. 最期の敬礼

These translations are, of course, subject to change based on listening to the entire album and especially seeing them in the context of the film itself. But they'll do for now.

Listening to the samples I have the impression more of a concert piece than an actual film soundtrack. But one can only tell so much from 40 second bits.

I'm guessing you're refering to the version used in the opening credits, since most of the other versions have no vocal...
There is a karaoke version in the "Sound Fantasy" album, the one with all the SFX tracks. Unfortunately, it's only missing Isao Sasaki's vocals, the background vocals are still there.

That version seems to be made for that game and no score for those has been leaked (to my knowledge). The Main Theme has known many, many versions existing in one form or another in every Yamato production. But it was throughout the first 2 series and movies (IMO) that it was presented in its most pure forms. In later productions the theme has been either reused cues or woven into other themes, supperbly in the live-action score :). I collected the main iterations of the theme from that "Golden Age" along with the karaoke and the Symphonic Suite version and will PM you a link ASAP.

Glad to help. Those clips are truly awesome but youtube doesn't do them justice. I got both the special in wich the 2 clips were featured (a show called SMAPxSMAP) and the Making Of wich has a lot more goodies, even if you don't understand most of what is said, both in HD quality. Now that does these clips justice. They're available on most good anime torrent sites. SMAPxSMAP is worth it for the 2 clips, for a show of some movie props with the actors and a surprise apearence by Isao Sasaki singing the Yamato's Theme. Besides that it's all a bit silly. The Making Of is a must have, though much time is used up in interviews, the bulk is footage from the movie and behind the scenes stuff. They'll have to keep me going 'till the movie comes out in one form or another. :)

The Making Of is a must have, though much time is used up in interviews, the bulk is footage from the movie and behind the scenes stuff. They'll have to keep me going 'till the movie comes out in one form or another. :)

OOooooooOOoooo I need to find those ASAP! :D

I really want to see this movie. Everything I have seen and read so far looks Epic :)

Is CD Japan the best place to get the live action movie soundtrack?

Read a lot of reviews to the new film and I really cant wait to see it! Also I have a very modded PS2 (yes its just a PS2) but my PS2 can play anything and I have acquired the PS versions of Yamato and Yamato 2 along with Macross DYBIL and Macross PS2. They are awesome. Looking to find the 3 Yamato PS2 games. Found them on amazon.jp

I have the PSX games, including the "Quest for Jura" Disc, the "New Voyage" for PS2 and managed to download the 2nd game from the "Be Forever Yamato" Game. Played and finished the 2 original PSX games. The rest i just extracted the animation clips. The one in PSX games are good but the PS2 clips are true HD bliss. Beautiful animation throughout. Wish the last movie and future projects had this animation style though being made in Matsumoto's style, with all the quibles between him and Nishizaki (that i doubt will disapear with Nishizaki's death), i very much doubt. I always wished for a remake of the original series with the games's animation style and updated story. If you ever get the other games would you be willing to share (at least the clips)? If anyone wants the stuff i have i'm more than willing to upload them. Good luck in your hunt.

My only wish regarding a new series is that the rights revert to Matsumoto, he, and not Nishizaki, was the reason the show was popular. His aesthetic, his writing, his concepts all struck a chord with Japanese audiences at the time, Themes of honour nobility duty etc were what made Ymato what it was, Nishizaki's 'Asteroid ship Icarus' was a bunch of greedy backstabbing people thinking about themselves first without any of the themes that Matsumoto brought into it. There was after all a reason that Matsumoto was allowed to basically completely rewrite the show.
But what the hell, whoever people think was responsible the fact is that it changed the face of not just Japanese animation but one could argue SF/Space opera forever. After all George Lucas was in japan when it premiered and the early versions of Star Wars that he had at that point had nothing involving space fighters dogfighting like WW2 in space.
But i ramble, I was originally just going to make a point about the sentimentality and emotion of most scores for Matsumoto works, but sidetracked myself. The music from Yamato is, to me, some of the best ever written not just for Animation but in general, the romance and swagger just strike a chord in me that most other scores simply do not. And the new score has an epic sweep that i haven't heard since Final Yamato, so thank you all for putting these scores up, i know that i for one am extremely grateful for them.

I love Yamato. Really I do. It will always have a special place in my heart. Yamato was, at its best, lightning in a bottle, a rare combination of different creative forces.
But I must be honest. Nishizaki spent the rest of his career trying to relive the glory of his post Star Wars Yamato success. (Yamato itself was a failure at its premiere...well, under performer. Only after Star Wars was a hit in Japan was Yamato reappraised, and made the monster it is today.) In his later career, if not his entire career, Nishizaki was a hack. I've read his pitch package when he came to Hollywood in the 80's to get a live action Yamato movie made.
I've heard a lot of people mark Matsumoto as the real core of the Yamato creative team, the one who gave depth and weight to what is, frankly, a goofy premise. The drag is that by the 80's, Matsumoto had also drifted into hackdom. It happens.
Gundam went through a similar process of creative ossification. Tomino, genius that he was for creating it, between his burn out and mood swings, kept producing more and more erratic work. Eventually, it was handed off to other people, producing some really good (and really bad,) follow ups. What does that mean for Yamato? It means you can give it to Matsumoto and prepare to watch someone cynically cash in. Or to a stranger and watch them reinvigorate it or cynically cash in. Or, if you want to preserve the memory of what you love, let it go, and don't let anyone else make any more.

I understand what you're saying JonC but in defense of Matsumoto i must say that the alterations introduced to the Yamato story during the recent PSX/PS2 games were, IMHO, an improvement over the original. I'm not saying to have Matsumoto direct the series but, unlike Rebirth, give any new Yamato to come the same aesthetic of the games animation wich is Matsumoto's. My wish for a remake stems mainly from my personal wish to have the series be re-animated in a way they couldn't do back in 1974. I believe one of the strong points of the movie (despite the outcry of some hardcore fans) is that it made changes needed to keep it fresh and allow an adaptation to a different format but it's still, at its core, the good old quest for Iscandar.

To those who downloaded the FLAC version of the live-action movie score, i have to make apologies. Due to a lack of attention on my part, when i downloaded the torrent i didn't notice that the CUE and LOG files were in a separate Zip. file (don't know why but there it is). So the FLAC is missing those. I downloaded the Zip with the CUE and LOG files and so here they are. Once again, sorry for this tinsy snafoo. :)

Hey guys -

Just wanted to pop back in to let you know that I returned from Japan a couple of days ago, and want to let you guys know that YAMATO is FANTASTIC!!!

I saw it 4 times!!

SPOILER!!

They seem to borrow more from the first two films than from the actual first series, and they changed the gamilas, but other than that it's DEAD ON!!

END SPOILER

Over all I was very pleased, and got some cool YAMATO loot...though not the soundtrack, as every time I saw it, I had limited cash, so put it off till it was too late - last three days were in Tokyo, and by then, no one had it anymore! Even at the theater I saw it in on my last night!!

Anyway, my friends there tell me that films released this time of year usually hit dvd in the spring, so not to much longer to wait till you can see it!!

macdawson
01-15-2011, 11:23 AM
You lucky SOB. I hate you so much right now.... Kidding. Just a note. You are aware that the first movie is just a trimmed down re-edited version of series one, right? But thanks for your report. Now the wait is on.

TheManWithTheHat
01-16-2011, 01:52 AM
HAHAHAHA!!!

Yeah, I know, and having just rewatched the second film (haven't seen it in over ten years), I can say that they DEFINITELY use material from the second movie...the live action is a comglomeration of the two - The first series (or film, depending on your POV) and the second, NON CANNON film.

I can't wait to see it again - I'm trying to hold myself over with the animated stuff, and the soundtrack, and the making of, but it's already nearly too hard to wait!! LOL!!

Is there any word if it will be in the theaters in the US or just straight to dvd? I am dying to see it. Even a bad copy online.

JonC
01-16-2011, 06:37 AM
I seriously, seriously, seriously doubt it will get a theatrical screening here. The most that might happen is at a festival or such. A DVD is a stronger possibility, but that is not to say this is a sure thing either. ONLY because of Starblazers cult following is there any chance of such a release, but frankly, the rights issue here may be too messed up to make that worth the effort of those who might try.
Sorry.
As I mentioned a while back, if it is anything like Yamato Resurrection, unsubtitled boots should be showing up about six months after its release, so say some time around the end of May.
I for, one will keep my eyes open, but do expect it anytime before then.
JonC

TheManWithTheHat

There has already been a theatrical showing stateside - it was at a festival (the name of which escapes me at the moment), and it was subbed.

Other than that, there's an "anime only" theater in..er..San Francisco (I think), ran by one of the anime importers...sometimes they do live action screenings for longer runs (they did this with the DEATH NOTE films). I know it's a long shot to see it if you don't live nearby, but...

While I was in Japan, my friends told me that films that come out the end of the year there typically make their way to dvd in the spring, so yeah, if nothing else, as JonC said, we'll start to see rips show up online then.

HOWEVER, Japan being the land of non-boots, Taiwan and the like are NOT, so we might see some craptastic cam job before then show up.

EDIT : After looking around a little, I found the article again - it was shown at a distributors fest of some kind in California.

It's nice to be able to take an opportunity to get soundtracks that were graciously offered to site members over 2 1/2 years ago. I'm using the Megaupload links which so far have not been removed. I did have a lot on audio tape, and some on vinyl but this is a fabulous way to acquire it again (with improved quality). Had this been a torrent source, I'd have not been so luck after all the time passed. Thanks so very much!
