To be honest there is no other song in the known universe that is as epic as "Inner Universe" - OK, I'm a bit biased cause i just loooooove that song ever since it came out. LOL

I've heard all the songs ever published by Origa, just love her voice. She has a very diverse range in terms of sound, from very slow, folkish to upbeat techno sounds. Her Russian origins are more present in her early work. I mean i'm no specialist in Russian pop but when you listen the first CDs it just sounds Russian, not because of the language it is sung in, but the very feel of the songs. More recent works drift away from that but every now and then you get a song that feels like a bit of Siberian breeze. But i'm straying from the point.
Inner Universe is, IMO her best song. Period. Her collaboration with YK seems to just bring out the best of her since following in my "Best of Origa" are "Rise", "Player", "Exaelitus" and "Date of Rebirth", all YK written and most from GITS SAC. If i had to choose just one of her albums to get, it would be "Era of Queens", i loved almost every song in that one. Other good songs from older editions are "We Can Hear Your Pulse", "From the Town of Lyra", "Diva", "Aurora", "Night Melody", "Mizu no Madoromi" (from the "Fantastic Children" anime)... i could go on for a while.
I advise you to listen to all her songs because she is truly an amazing artist and you're sure to find many songs that you'll fall in love with.

As a closing to my rant, if you want to make Inner Universe bigger, if not better (wich is just impossible), stitch "Flashback Memory Plug" from GITS SAC in front of it as a sort of intro. Just heavenly.

Is there any possibility of getting the instrumental tracks from the Cowboy Bebop video game soundtrack (TGCS-2849) in lossless? "Pearls (Instrumental)" is so haunting, and I'd buy the CD if I could. Lossless is the next best thing. :)

I recomend cowboy bebop, wolfs rain, and uncharted water disc 2 special(its arranged music she composed for a videogame). Thats what I've heard from her in addition to escaflowne.

I have just recently started listening to Yoko Kanno (well, after listening to UW2: New Horizons for forever without knowing she did the music) and just love everything she does. Rapidshare seems to stop but it continues after a while. I don't know why it does so.

Ah see I do have firefox, and I do have skipscree, but its not either of those. Skipscreen actually fixed their thing so it works for rapidshare, and actually im having a better chance getting a download with skipscreen on than off, because at least with skipscreen when i hav to wait over 2 minutes (like now, when im trying to download the ost 2), i dont have to BE here for the two minutes.
Edit- and its longer than 2 min lol, 2 min ticked down, then it added 50 sec, then 20, then 30.. Im up to like 3 min wait time now after my 2 min wait

I just have alot of problems with rapidshare. Its slower than the others, longer wait time, files often come to me corrupted or something where I cant read them.. and they often fail in download. Its just annoying. No idea why they fail downloading, just halfway through or so, it stops.

Maybe it's your connection? I've never had that problem once. Are you in the us?

Yeah Im in the US. The thing is, I dont have this problem with anything else. Literally. Its like, as soon as I hit save on the file, and it shows the download status, itll start, ya know, calculating the time, and then it just shows __;__ for the time, and stops downloading all together. Ive left it up for days like that sometimes, hoping its just a visual error, but nope, it actually stops downloading it.

Its really irritaing when I have to download a file like that, 10+ times, and it keeps stopping like that. I notice doesnt happen with Megaupload, mediafire, or sendspace, tho it used to a long time ago with megaupload but its stopped since then. I only get it with rapidshare now. And it happens on ALL like.. 5 or so of my computers.

And as for my connection... I usually have no problems. Its pretty high most of the time @ like 76mbps, and its a steady good connection

And huzzah, found out i have the OST2 on my laptop but ost3 was corrupt. Tho my two lapstops are also getting the download timeout error :/

I know what you mean Tennyo, but apparently this happens when there are no free slots available for non-premium users, and most of the time it occurs on weekends, when there are more traffic on rapidshare.
You should reclick the free user buttom in every 2 minutes period, until you've got a free slot available.

A lot of people - believe me A LOT of people in many forums!! - have been searching exclussively for the track "Total Eclipse" (the catchy rock-song in episode 10 where Li beats blood-contractor).

Does anyone have any concert videos for Kanno's work? Specifically, I've been looking for a rip of the Turn A Gundam concert dvd. I imagine it'd be just like the soundtrack, but there's so little video of her performing live floating around.

However when I rejoin the files as per the page instructions, it definitley shows Yoko Kanno rehearsing the Turn A concert, but it's only about 17 minutes and it cuts off abruptly at the end. So either I'm doing something wrong in extracting the file or this is only part of the DVD. There's no footage from the actual concert itself, just rehearsal.

I guess I shall further hone my Google Fu skills and keep looking for more information.

You might try downloading the files again because it took me a few tries before I get each part completely. Make sure that the file sizes are the same because they might stop early and give you a corrupted file.

Hi, is it possible to obtain FULL musical score from Magnetic Rose? The Memories CD has only couple of songs/melodies from the movie.

The first time I've heard Yoko Kanno was... maybe 1999. To this day I think that creating music for Magnetic Rose is probably the greatest work of Kano.

Two things:

First -- The Tachikoma Drive CD link is dead. Please fix.

Second -- The GITS 2nd GIG episode "Poker Face" showed the Major's and Saito's first encounter. As they are facing off (and he is figuring that she needs to download mid-range firing data), there is a male choir that sings. I have yet to find that on the GITS OSTs. Either I missed it, or it's unreleased, or it comes from a different source.

Edit -- Cancel the second one. Found it on the GITS SAC Unofficial Collection 2. Awesome.

Wow, first off I want to give my thanks to jedinewtype. You really have done something spectacular here. I didn't really discover Yoko Kanno until about 6 months ago. Since then, I can't get enough of her and I'm constantly in the market for the animes that she has worked with/on.

Well then for some reason you say so that it's a rare album. This ain't Cowboy Bebop, where you can find it everywhere.

If nobody answered to your request so far, can be because: a)The forum has been down in the last 2 days, and several days in the last months; b)Your request went unnoticed; c)Nobody has the soundtrack in possession to make the upload now; or d)The members who may have the album don't want to upload nor are obliged to do so;

Try to PM the original poster since he is the one that first uploaded the album, and in the meantime wait, be cool, and listen to another music until someone who was it do the upload.

Hello, I don't know if you still extract music from the ghost of the shell series, but I found some great music in episode 20 and 21 of ghost in the shell the stand alone complex, second gig.

-A heroic veriation of "know your enemy" when kuze explains how he got the money to the bald kid in episode 20.
-The face off at the end of episode 20
-The opening scene of episode 21 ( again the face of between kuze and batou )
-The suicide bombing of the tilt rotor in episode 21

When anime composer extraordinaire Yoko Kanno decides to release a triple best-of album, the million-dollar question is: does it make any sense from a purely musical point of view? After all, Kanno is known not just for her involvement with half of the best cult anime series produced in Japan, but also for her extreme versatility: she can work with -- and be good at -- virtually any style, from classical to hard rock, from techno to blues. But the flip side is that any Kanno collection runs the risk of sounding like a surfing session for a dozen different radio stations, one song at a time. So, unfortunately, the short answer is yes -- Space Bio Charge really sounds very disparate and wide-ranging. The cinematic lineage of these tunes ensures that they have at least a little something common in mood, but on the whole, the collection veers between vastly different though equally high-quality numbers: bombastic strings are replaced by catchy post-grunge tunes, recede into comical pop songs, and then give way to sparse vocal performances. This is overwhelming, and disappointing, too, especially because it's obvious that order could still have been imposed on this chaotic polyphony, as Kan no's compositions can be grouped into orchestral, rock, and pop batches. That would leave a good deal of diverse odds and ends, such as the hilarious pseudo-country ditty "Milwaukee No Horse Riding," and in some cases grouping would be hard -- "Inner Universe" is opera pop and "Tank!" is a killer jazzy instrumental, so it's unclear where they might fit -- but even if a single CD would be left for "miscellaneous," it would still make Space Bio Charge much more structured. As it stands, for a Yoko Kano fan -- of whom there are plenty -- this collection is Christmas come early, but as an independent musical experience, it's too slapdash, although a lot of patience and CD programming can, perhaps, bring out the abundant gems piled here.

I appreciate it Jawful. Ironically, that version is better than a 320kbps version I found floating elsewhere, though I'm sure that version was just a crappy 64kbps version converted to 320 with the illusion that that would somehow make a difference.

Does anyone know whether Kanno's gonna score another anime or movie? It feels like it's been ages since Macross Frontier. It was rumored she was going to handle Gundam Unicorn but plans for that, if they were true, obviously fell through, and she didn't handle the music for the second season of Darker Than Black either.

Makes me wonder if she's merely taking a break or if she's winding down her career to just a bunch of small side projects. It wouldn't surprise me if she was exhausted, she had been working practically nonstop from Escaflowne to Macross Frontier.

ok upon listening to this i feel my efforts were largely a waste of time -_- theres a reason i stay away from unofficial releases and this confirms it

track 1 (ひこうき) is ok, it doesnt even really sound like akino's vocals but the instrumentation is very similar to hers... perhaps she just composed it or is very young ?_?
track 2 (late summer falling) is nice, its actually Banka no Furu Niwa from Video Girl Ai
track 3 (jungle) is just tribute of jungle from the goddess in the morning album
track 4 (in my dreams) is a hilarious engrish song from g gundam
track 5 (idol talk) is from macross plus and you can download it pretty much everywhere so i'm not sure what's supposed to be so rare about it
track 6 (goddess in the morning) and track 7 (flower crown) are... also just from the goddess in the morning album
track 8 (borderline) is more accessible macross plus music
track 9 (远い青) is just Distant Blue from Nobunaga's Ambition Tenshouki OST
track 10 (音叉) is literally just Onsa from Furu Platinum
track 11 (祈り) is Tsuki kara no Inori Totomoni from Please Save My Earth and also the Sora no Mori album

TL;DR SO BASICALLY yeah i wasted my time, if you download this you can pretty much delete every track except for 1, 2, 4, 12, 16, 18, 20, and 22-26, which isn't even half of them left. at least i did all the work so nobody else has to, but let's face it... nobody else even cares that much

Not really, they're pretty horrible as bitrates go. If you want I can combine whatever songs/singles you want into just one .rar to download.

I can't express my thanks enough for all of these wonderful, rare downloads. I have a hefty Kanno collection myself, and would like to contribute as thanks. I'll go back over the thread and re-up some of the albums that are now dead links, and I also believe I have some that haven't been uploaded let.

I recently got the "Because" single from Kanno and Aoi Teshima. The song was used in the Surely Someday ost, but it also has a revised version of the song that's not found on the soundtrack. I'll upload this as well.

Wow, it's actually funny to mention Smooth in the Shell. I came up with my own batch of titles for the tracks, as far as I could tell where they began and ended, about a year or so ago, and while I can't say if they're any good, i's a great relief to finally not have to wait for that longass title to scroll all theway on my ipod just to see which track it's on now. Yeah, i love Japan and the Japanese people but... they're nuts. :)
But it is a good idea, you go to the planetarium but instead of some bland narration about the stars and planets you get a show with some animation and music thrown into the mix. And anything with Origa in it has my total support.

Though I already despise flac and lossless in general, it's mostly a matter of conveinence. We don't all have money to toss around buying converters for a couple of songs, and the few free downloads floating around never, ever work. Like I said, I really appreciate the effort, but the only way to even get to them for me is if they're in mp3, so that'd be much appreciated too. :)

Nevermind, I found a free foobar download, so many thanks for all the great albums and don't hesitate to post more if you can find em. Mizoguchi's one of the most underrated composers in the business, and it's a shame so few people can even see him in his ex-wife's shadow. Not that it's a bad shadow to be in.

Thanks for the Mizoguchi albums, and in FLAC nonetheless! I agree with you for rare and hard-to-find albums that I prefer to archive them in FLAC since many programs (foobar and mediamonkey) are able to transcode them on-the-fly to many digital audio players. In other words it futureproofs the albums, as lossy encoders continue to improve I'll have the original FLACs ready to go.

Stand Alone Complex OST1 tracks all came up as MPEG 99% in auCDtect except two files which showed to be inconclusive. I've read that someone uploaded flac files with the .mp3 extension because the server he was uploading to didn't accept .flac... Renaming with the .flac extension seems fishy to me. Spectrograms also look like there's a cut off around 30kHz. Someone rip and upload the collection with FLAC setting 8... If not, I know a tracker that has it but utorrent fails on me for some reason, so if you can I'll link it here or in pm.

I think that is an April Fool's joke... I have also heard that another Aquarion series might be in the works. Perhaps Kanno will be scoring? One can only hope ;)!

Hello all. Just wanted to update the thread with some YK news and links, plus an ORIGA link.

It seems that Yoko wrote a song just recently called Kimi de ite, Buji de ite (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O8x6_JHDkhI&feature=player_embedded) (YouTube link, upload not mine, all credit goes to original uploader) as an inspirational message for those affected by the recent tragic seismic events in Japan. The piece is of solo instrumentation, so Yoko sings and plays the piano. The English translation of the lyrics can be found in the source link below.

Doubt it. For all the hard time score fans have to get full scores, anime scores are even tougher to get. In normal scores you can try and make a rip (with SFX and sometimes minute dialogue) from the 5.1ch mix of a DVD but Macross F's DVDs have only 2.0ch. The GITS SAC rip that is a few posts up on this page was probably obtained like that. GITS got a R1 release so with 5.1ch. The movies seem to have 5.1ch sound so maybe something can be made out of those. But as for the series unreleased music, unless you have professional equipment, and even then i doubt all the SFX and dialogue could be removed, a decent rip is nearly impossible. If anyone can prove me wrong i'll be a happy man 'cause i love this score.

It seems that Bebop creator Shinichiro Watanabe and Yoko Kanno are reuniting for a brand new anime series this April. Here is the original article:

The first promotional video and the official website for the Sakamichi no Apollon television anime confirmed on Friday that the project is reuniting Cowboy Bebop's director Shinichiro Watanabe (Macross Plus, The Animatrix's "Kid's Story," Samurai Champloo) and composer Yoko Kanno (Macross Plus/Frontier, Escaflowne, Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex). Nobuteru Yuki (Record of Lodoss War, Escaflowne, Space Battleship Yamato 2199) is designing the characters, and Yoshimitsu Yamashita (Hyouge Mono, Phantom ~Requiem for the Phantom~) is the chief animation director at the studios MAPPA/Tezuka Productions.

Since she uses a completely different musical approach to almost every new project this is a pretty hard task :)
Cowboy Bebop is pretty close I'd say (if your into Blues/Jazz).

First you can never be disappointed with Yoko Kanno (maybe with Macross F). Try Escaflowne, Uncharted Waters, and Aquarion. Now Iam going to listen to Valse De La Lune before I go to bed.

I'm primarily interested in larger orchestral works, though open to some variety as well. I'm sure this is a huge question and everyone has their own opinions, but curious to hear some recommendations from experts. Thanks!

I only have some an incomplete one with as low as 32-64kbit, which is ridiculously low. :(
