This week:

Nine Inch Nails- Year Zero (One of the albums of the year, in my estimation.)
Manowar- Gods of War (PERFECT for the moods when you want extremely cheesy Battle Metal.)
Chthonic- Seediq Bale (Have yet to listen to it, but I have heard two tracks from the album, from previous exposure, and have high hopes for the album.)

I didn't buy it, but I got it free. One of my friends works for a car hire place, and sometimes, customers leave CDs in the car and he has them away. Anyway, he found the new Arcade Fire one, Neon Bible.

Not his thing, so he gave it to me. I have to say, it's quite good!

Make Believe--Weezer; I was holding out for a hard case release and forgot about it forever. Remembered it today, and lo and behold they had. Aside from Beverly Hills it is quite good.

The Hold Steady--Boys and Girls in America. After hearing Girls Like Status on the ATHF:MFfT:The Soundtrack, I had to bite. Everytime I listen to that, it's like 'who put in a real album?' considering it's sandwhiched between I Want Candy and Nude Love (Reprise).

Their early stuff was grunge-like, but a bit angsty. PURE MASSACRE and GROWING UP, ITS LIKE A CIVIL WAR! etc etc.

Still, better than the toilet that followed Neon Ballroom.

Panda Bear - Person Pitch

Amazing album. Probably my favorite so far this year. I haven't been able to stop listening to it. The layers of sound are so lush and real, and the vocal harmonies are magic. While the musical arrangements aren't too complex, they shouldn't be. They work to help move the vocals along, sometimes in shift from one mood/feeling to another -- like on Good Girl/Carrots.

Air - Moon Safari
Air - The Virgin Suicides Soundtrack

Funny story; went to the store today looking for the VS soundtrack and found it there for $15. Then I saw box set with that CD plus Moon Safari for $20 so I decided on that instead. Took it to the counter and it scans for $5! This is a bargain to end all bargains

Heh, I wish I could find deals like that around here. I haven't heard VSS but Moon Safari has some great stuff on it.

Not as good as The Last In Line or Holy Diver but a few songs on it are great. Not as good as Dream Evil neither. ROnnie James Dio's voice and Vivian Campbell's guitar work is brilliant along with Vinnie Appice's thunderous drumming. Jimmy Bain's Bass work seems to be plain on this album.

all in all, great but not as good as it's predecessors nor it's successor album. But not bad either.

Donald Fagen - Kamakiriad

It's a concept album which depicts the travels of the narrator, while he's in his fictional, state-of-the-art car, Kamakiri.

I've read many reviews stating that it's not Fagen's best effort, most of which could be summed up in one word: okay; mediocrity was a given. However, the theme was interesting enough, and along with being a Steely Dan fan, the record eventually found its way into my collection.

Yeah, I don't know how some of the people here are buying so many albums these days. I feel like an old man. I hear about new albums by the artists I like and I buy them. Horribly slow process. I'll buy a cd every couple of months if I'm VERY lucky.

neon bible is kind of sucky imo.

last album i got was tromatic reflexions by von sudenfed. also some dire straits album that i thought was gang of four because im a freaking idiot

but i have not bought much this summer because ive been in a record shop, um, once, due to work.

:(

k-ve : i like to buy lots of stuff just for the sake really, if i have heard of a band or if i have one album already and they have lots of old stuff. buying stuff when you dont know what it will be like is half the fun, dude!

I've been getting that kind of entertainment out of video games for a while now. It's natural to shift emphasis everyone once in a while, for me. I just haven't heard anything new that excites me in a while. I'll look harder when I'm ready.

I used to buy albums constantly, sorry if I didn't make that clear. It just hasn't been my top entertainment priority recently.

Tegan's song on New Wave is definitely the best song on that record

And The Con is absolutely brill! I have listened to it about 5 times through already, it came with a 2 hour DVD on the making of the album that is also good, definitely try to get that if you can.

Mossymossy, I had no idea what Icky Thump was gonna be like, but: It is good! Generally, the sound of the album reminds me a lot of the album Elephant, which I really fancy ('cause I was a bit dissapointed with Get Behind Me Satan). But that dissapointment is vanished now with the fresh and edgy sound of their latest (and greatest? maybe~), and I really think you're gonna like it too. ^^

More eclectic, diverse :)

See, I was afraid that you were going to say that. It's different in a very good way, but it isn't so different that you're going to find it foreign or aversive--at least I don't think you will, it's all in your interpretation, at the end of the day.

For me, Futures is a rather dark and cathartic record. If Futures is about the immediate end of a relationship, then Chase This Light is like a couple years down the road. It's exactly the change I needed, given that that pretty much parallels my own experiences.

I think you should pick it up, if you want my outright opinion.

For me Chasing The Light brings older elemnts and some of the best songs since Clarity, i didn't like Futures or Bleed American and only seem to enjoy Clarity which is a sonic trip and J.E.W's best effort as well as the highest standard for the band, Chasing The light is a solid record but not the most ambitious or most impressive, it's the most logical step in their career,

Also, Gotta Be Somebody's Blues is one of the most catchy songs of the year
