Hello.
I attempted a complete gamerip of Ghostbusters: The Videogame a while back and today I discovered that it was uploaded to
http://bit.ly/1FG7HQm without my permission.
What should I do about this?
Also be careful the website says possible malware.

Welcome to the internet, where people download things and then upload them elsewhere.

Yep. All they have to do is give me credit and I would be fine with it.

Don't be so whiny about people nabbing "your" work and sharing it with others. Isn't that the whole reason you uploaded it? So more people could listen to it?
They aren't going to credit you for originally uploading it because your product matters. No one cares if SillySlurpuff was the original uploader.
I have had my stuff shared with a wider audience - outside the original place I posted it in - without my "permission" and it's not a big deal. If anything it's a little gratifying that something I edited was of high enough quality to be passed around to others.
Don't be so caught up in how someone "stole" what "you" did and instead realize that it's the way the WORLD works, not just the Internet. It's like taking naked pictures... don't put it on the Internet if you don't want everyone to see it!

I uploaded it for people to listen to it, not to share it.
I know that they weren't going to credit me. I know that if I upload it, it was bound to be uploaded somewhere else. I know nobody would care if I was the original uploader. I know this stuff.
I'm "caught up" because I went through a lot of work to rip, edit and upload it, and you may be OK with people uploading your work somewhere else after you do a lot of work too. But everybody's different and I'm different than you - I don't like it.
I can react how I want to react, and I will react how I want to react. The whole question of the goddamn thread was "Is there something I can do about this?", not "Please judge about how I react to my work being uploaded elsewhere". Quite frankly your reply was unnecessary and pointless.

... And when more people share it, more people listen to it, right?

You seemed surprisingly agitated in your first post, as if you were very surprised someone had distributed what you posted on this forum. That's why I told you why it's not something to get too upset over. React how you would like to, but if your reaction is, "How dare someone stole what I stole!" then I felt a little compelled to comment on that. Sorry.
No, there's nothing you can do about it. We had a discussion about something like this only a few days ago (
Thread 189816) and the only way you can deal with it is to roll with it. There's no one you can report this "theft" to, and there's even fewer people who care.
Is that website linked to shrine?
Probably not. What's the website title? Because I'm not clicking on a link that you just told me was filled with malware.

The website is actually just called Video Game Music, and shrine doesn't seem to let me post the domain here.

If I've correctly guessed which website you're talking about, nope, it shouldn't have any connection to the Shrine. Bluntly speaking: you can't do shit. You may have spent time ripping, editing, etcetera, but you don't own the stuff you've ripped… Legally-wise, you have no ground to request a removal of the files from wherever they may end up hosted and/or shared. Don't let this stuff get to you and try to see the silver lining in all this: music will probably be enjoyed by more folks.

You know, I'm doing gamerip too, and like you, I take a lot of time to do this, both for ripping, editing, tagging and designing a beautiful page where everyone will just look for the damn download link.
here some of my "work" :
Thread 138443
Thread 138422
XGRA - Xtreme Gravity Racing Association ~ 3 DISC ~ ( FLAC/WAV - MP3~192 ) (
http://forums.ffshrine.org/f72/xgra-xtreme-gravity-racing-association-~-3-a-139431/ )
(^ take a look at this one, I have done the logo from scratch, designed the CDs, tagged ALL tracks etc.....
And I have done this only for sharing, I'm happy when people share this on a lot of site, youtube, rutracker etc.... even if I'm not credited, why ?
Simply because I share this not for glory or anything like that, just only to make a sure a lot of people will enjoy what I have enjoyed too, that's why I make beautiful page, I tag everything, to be sure that even the one that don't know the game can say: how damn, that's look pretty, let's give a try !

One thing you could do is make "Ripped by SillySlurpuff" the comment for every file you rip.

Dear FFShrine,
My rip I illegally provided for others to illegally download on this site was uploaded illegally to another site for more people to illegally download. This is truly outrageous and I want justice for this heinous crime. After all, it's only ok to illegally provide downloads of copyrighted material for others to illegally download when we do it.
Thanks,
SillySlurpuff
Fixed.

I don't like it when this happens either but that's the way the cookie crumbles. If your work if decent, other people will upload your stuff.
This is basically digging out the old expectation of "honour amongst thieves" - it doesn't work like that.
Of the 50,000 times somebody downloads your rip, 49,990 people don't care one iota who you are. They wanted the music and they have it. They don't want to comment, or talk to you, or find out how you did it, or talk about the music... they just want to take their download and go away. That's sad, but think of it a different way - ten people genuinely cared about what you did.
I know very well that our activities range wildly. There are people who throw a CD in their computer, hit "Rip", ZIP it, and dump it on Mega. There are people who spend hours researching and working to make their rips. About a year ago I spent three weeks preparing an upload - it entailed VHS transfers, audio restoration, CD rips, trading CDs behind the scenes, booklet scanning, translation, and a lengthy visit to the library to research my write up. Not one single sodding comment of any kind. I was annoyed, but in the end... I did that for me. If somebody was happy with it, I'm glad. It'd be nice if they could let me know... but the world just ain't like that.
If you're thin skinned and want your efforts to be treated with kid gloves... you're in the wrong line of work, folks.
People are going to pirate your piracy. More importantly, your work is going to make people happy. Hang on to that and keep it up.

That's the type of response I like.
Go ahead and judge me, go ahead and make fake sarcastic letters, but at the end of the day, I'm me. And like I said before I will react how I want to react.
Thanks tango. You didn't judge, nor were you specifically targeting me.
Also, I just thought I'd let people know that I'm only 14, and I'm still getting into the who-owns-the-copyright stuff. I know that I don't own the music, and I know that is illegal, but this was my first proper gamerip and didn't know what to expect from it.
