So here's an update. Say goodbye to your awful 128kbps MP3 clips and say hello to a sexy 1526kbps lossless WAV collection! Recorded directly in game and compressed with Audacity.
When I was recording, the music volume was on max and, obviously, the others were off. Whenever the characters spoke, the music went quieter. So I had to compress them. Don't worry, they sound fine.
Cover made by defender_ctr.

Tracks based on the Realistic Version of the game - not the Stylized Version.

IF YOU SEE ANY TRACKS THAT I'VE MISSED, TELL ME! :D
ALSO, IF THE LINK GOES DOWN LET ME KNOW TOO!

looking forward to it. will the tracks have tracknames?

Azetlor

Yes, the tracks will have custom names. The ambient tracks are quite hard to name; you'll have to have a listen to them to recognize them. I have named them so that they are as recognizable as possible, like if the music plays while walking down Sedgewick's Corridors, I've named it something like "Through Sedgewick" or "Through the Corridors". but the fight loops will have the name of the first enemy with the music in it. For example, Azetlor.

If you would like, though, I could upload another file where the tracks are just "Fight Loop 03, Ambient 05", etc.?

Here is some albumart I created.

Also do you happen to have higher bitrate versions of this? 128 is pretty low. Thanks.

Awesome album art! Did you use a 3D program to make that image?

I am quite new to ripping, exporting and editing music. I actually have no idea what the hell the bitrate does to a song; how it helps. I will need a suggestion to what bitrate to set it to. I'll do something higher and reupload it, and you can suggest a value as you see fit later on. Your Album Art will also be used.

It may take me a while, though as I currently do not have a higher value set.

While I can do 3d (was a 3d artist in the game industry for 7 years) I definitely didn't do the 3d in the image. All I did was find a picture from the game and threw it together with the logo real fast in Photoshop.

I don't rip music from games either so I'm not familiar with the practices. However, bitrate is the quality and compression of the music. 128 is on the low end of things while 320 is considered CD quality. The only real reason anyone wants low bitrates is to save on memory as compression is directly related to its size on disk. Some people say they can't tell the difference between certain bitrates so it's a personal opinion in the end. Usually it's customary to post high bitrates or uncompressed bitrates and just let people who want more compression run them through software that converts files type/compressions. Other than mp3 files, FLAC files are also very popular now as they are completely uncompressed, raw data.

Personally I'd never go lower than 192 but I prefer 320 now that hard drive space isn't a factor. The moral of the story, though, you can't go wrong with 320.

Alright then, 320 it is! It may take me a while to convert them due to school. Starting my GCSE's soon and I don't really have much time to do this. If you could suggest a bitrate converter, you can change it yourself then recommend it to me. Thanks again for the Album Art! Also have a look to see if there's any tracks I have missed.

I understand the school thing. I'm a college professor who is also getting a Masters myself. Take your time, we appreciate your work.

I'm not sure the rules on the forum as far as talking products and programs and I'm not suggesting it's the best option (haven't done research on it for years) but I've been using a program called dBpoweramp to rip cd's and to convert file types and bitrates.

Thanks again.

Oh yeah just one more thing: it's a bit of trivia actually--As you know, there were two versions that were released, the Realistic Version (X-Box 360, PS3) and the Stylized version (Wii and PS2). The track labeled "Hindenburg Was a Terrible Show" was also used as the theme for the final battle against Ivo Shandor in the Wii version.

Yeah, I realised that! xD
I just named the songs based on the first fight where the music plays. I actually think that the Hindenburg clip is only used in one fight - the Hindenburg one ._. I actually think that the Destructor Form's battle would be better with Azetlor, because, let's face it, everyone loves Azetlor. :3

Since you're so interested in bitrate, compression, etc., thought I might chime in here and give you some tips:

- Bitrate is rarely important information. What's important is the file format, the source file format, and, occasionally, what the spectrogram looks like. I can convert a 128kbps MP3 file to 1536kbps WAV. Of course the audio quality doesn't magically improve, but the bitrates are different... see how mentioning the bitrate isn't always helpful information?
- Why'd you record directly from the game? Would it not be easier to open up the game files in Audacity, or some other program, and export them directly? Or can you not find/open the music files?
- WAV isn't really that good of a choice for distributing music. Even though it's uncompressed and has a high bitrate, it's not imperative to keep it at WAV. Converting the files to FLAC will retain the audio quality but lower the filesize by a lot. In terms of file quality, WAV is EXACTLY the same as FLAC, except bigger in filesize.

Ah, ha! There's the thing, though. You can clearly notice the difference in the quality between my 128kbps MP3's and these ones.
The MP3's were all exported from YouTube videos and some were recorded by me using an HDPVR and recording on my PS3, they all came out at 128kbps, with the exception of "History" which was at 98, and you could really hear the low-qualityness... I always thought that if your clip is 128kbps and you converted it to a higher bitrate it wouldn't change, is that what you're telling me by saying it's not important information? If that's the case that's very true, and would apply for most cases except for this one.*
I didn't convert the 128kbps MP3s into these at all, these were all recorded in-game by me and if you were to listen to my old copies then this one, you can really hear a difference.

- Why'd you record directly from the game? Would it not be easier to open up the game files in Audacity, or some other program, and export them directly? Or can you not find/open the music files?
Nope, the music files were nowhere to be seen. Just a bunch of POD files, an executable and video folders.

Oh, well, ok! Thanks for the advice, I'll probably go and convert them at some point.
This gamerip isn't too popular so I'll probably only convert it if people want me to - maybe if I rip something bigger and better I'll be sure to do that.

Of course you can. There is a HUGE quality difference between 128k and true lossless. But I was just using that as an example...

I just mention the bitrate because if it's high, people automatically think "Oh, high quality music! Yay!"
I see where you're coming from and appreciate all the advice you've given me, and like I said I will probably convert them next gamerip.

You can extract the music from W32MUSND.POD using this (http://blog.gib.me/2009/06/19/ghostbusters/). You can play the smp files using the vgmstream plugin with most popular media players.

Gah, VGMStream plugin has blew my face off - no idea how to use it. I've tried all sorts of applications to convert and open them but none of them work.

Foobar (http://www.foobar2000.org/) with vgmstream (http://www.foobar2000.org/components/view/foo_input_vgmstream). Install foobar first and then run the vgmstream component file, it'll add vgmstream to foobar, then you can play and convert the files.

Is there a track listing that is more like you're playing the game? Or more like a concept album instead of ABC order? And it sounds great thank you.

No.
I would make one, i.e ordering the tracks but I've got some work to do first. I may get around to doing it but, it's at the bottom of my list.
