I've recorded the victory jingles for you :-)
It may be useful for a short time since I expect the 'real' gamerip to be out soon but it's something.

What I did was go to the sound settings and only leave the music on (disabling the sfx and voices)
Then I used a 3,5mm to 3,5mm jackplug from my speakerset to my laptop to record them all (thanks to special smash's 300% mode I could do it pretty fast)
and then used audacity to crop them and export them to 320kbps mp3 files.
I'm not an audiophile or something so they may sound horrible in one's and decent in other's.

Pretty much, but we still need the Japanese Ashley V2 track.

...I guess I'd do it if I had at least 4 others also ready to subject the rest of their lifespan to this...


You know you don't really have to give loops to all the tracks, just the new ones. The music rips for Melee and Brawl have been available online for ages and they're already looped too. This should cut the tracks to almost half (there are about 240 new tracks iirc).


Btw Battle! (Champion) [Pokemon X & Y] only lasts for a minute for some reason and doesn't finish the full song which lasts around 40 seconds longer. Is this intentional or is it just my download?

Well i do have a capture device. But i really wish we had some sort of confermation that ISO or whatever its called releases soon.

I kinda figured it was a YT rip considering who posted it but it's the best we have until someone finally dumps the game.

Someone PLEASE make a list of what needs to be fixed.

Noticed a little problem- on Main Theme [Super Mario 64], about half way through the song the right channel vanishes.

Can confirm. I was just listening to this one and noticed it as well:

Track # 21 -> Main Theme [Super Mario 64] -> Approx. 1:53 min in, right channel goes out, then makes small popping noise on right side, then is gone for almost the rest of the track. Oddly enough, it is restored in about the very last 2-3 seconds of the track.


In any case, I also wanted to say THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH FOR THE RIP!! It is truly appreciated, I am in love with the music here. There is just so much and the effort put into ripping, cleaning, and tagging is incredible, an amazing team effort! This is why I love FFShrine!

I'll also go back and find the original Smash 3DS rip and grab the StreetSmash song from it because I highly doubt it's going to be in the Wii U version. (If you don't remember, the converted .idsp rip had a few songs that didn't play and the StreetSmash song was one of them.)

I just did it. All I did was remove VGMStream, open up Winamp, close it and then drag in the new VGMStream file and the patch into the Plugins folder. IDK why it didn't work before.

EDIT: I think I found the StreetSmash song but it doesn't play still. Guess it's a bad rip.

EDIT 2: I only have 357 songs, I thought there was another 100 or so songs in Smash Wii U?

To get the missing songs, I'd have to redownload the .rar again from crediar, and his servers are currently getting hammered. I'll give it a go though.

EDIT: What you could do is just reupload the .nus3banks to MEGA or something, it'd be a lot quicker for the both of us. I can easily get rid of the duplicates by merging the 2 folders together and I can just convert them on my end.

Okay, about 30% done on my end of the 50 files I was assigned. It's mostly Results screens / target blast stuff... But I find new short fanfares, like "Target Blast: Results". So yeah we have many new files, but people don't expect all 3 minutes songs. Fanfares are included for the sake of completion.

For very similar (internal rom names) names that seem to have a need to be at a precise point in the list, I have appended a "B" or "C" to the nearest song.

For example:
421 - Classic: Results Screen [Super Smash Bros. 4]
421B - Classic: Intro [Super Smash Bros. 4]

Just to make them near, not a final listing, but it's the best I can do right now!

Also for the Tournament Mode assortment of songs which are not officially in the game yet, and for the weird "snd bgm CRS14 Chronicle" which I don't know the name, I have made their track number ZZZ so we can easily distinguish them.

I'm finishing the Metroid files I have left (4-5) and I'll upload, ready for a new batch.

edit: nvm. So STM_BGM_NPG008_THEMA_MLT in Wii Party U is snd_bgm_R47_WPTU_Theme_1 in SSB Wii U. Now to find out what it corresponds to ingame but I can't find a tagged soundtrack of it :/

Okay, so since I'm doing the Flac collection, I'll just add some precision as to my edits to the tags. The titles will all follow this rule:
"Title" "[First game to feature this arrangement]"

And their filenames follow this rule:

"Disc#" - "Track# "Title" "[First game to feature this arrangement]"

So you can find "Peach's Castle [Super Smash Bros. Melee]" but its tags also feature "Super Mario" in the grouping tags. So in a nice player you would search "Mario" and it would appear in your search.
And yes, for us audiophiles, rejoice, the songs from Melee and Brawl are 48 khz now. Maybe they had masters after all! But it sounds much cleaner than the 32 khz rip from the Gamecube and Wii files...

And I'm filling in missing artists tags, which I may also copy to composer when it's obvious who wrote the original music. The artist would then be the "Arrangement Supervisor" as the game says and the composer would be the correct one also.

I may also change the tracklist to follow more closely the one here:
Music (SSB4-Wii U) - SmashWiki, the Super Smash Bros. wiki (http://www.ssbwiki.com/Music_%28SSB4-Wii_U%29)

Also, should I add a place in the title to state if it's an original, remix (from Melee of Brawl) or new remix? I think it is redundant as the brackets state which game this particular arrangement comes so "Melee" in brackets would signify a remix from 2001, not an original.

Also, I have two date tags. "Date" is 2014, as this particular game is from this year. But "Original date" refers to the date this arrangement was first heard. So you could listen to this soundtrack in from 30 years ago to now! I think it is worth the effort on my part to be precise on this also...

I'm just sitting here picking my nose until my files upload.

For some reason, right now MediaMonkey wants to make me its bitch. First I noticed I wss missing songs, so I went in the original files to convert and add them. But now I'm counting and I'm still missing songs, looks like the MADAFAKA didn't register the entries to its database. First time it happened and I've worked with this program for years!

Maybe I'm just too fast tagging for it to handle. XD

I just finished the 60 or so Mario Songs, all tags are checked and to my taste, but I'll recheck once I've done everything to be consistent.

I tagged everything on my end. It's MP3 though and no proper artist tags due to the fact that it's for my iPod so everything is tagged as Nintendo for artist

I would suggest making it "Disc#" - "Track# "Title" "(First game to feature this arrangement)", parenthesis are neater looking compared to brackets. Plus, I would also suggest taking out the "(First game to feature this arrangement)" when it is a "XXXX Medley" where the XXXX stands for the game of origin.

Well Alex, I don't know, currently I track them ZZZ to have them order elsewhere and after I finish the rest I'll take a decision I guess. Quick though, we could just append them at the end of a thematic section. Like Mario Paint at the end of the Mario section, retagging all the following with a +1 to make room for it. Because right now, the general tracklist order goes with the ingame sound test. That's the only "official reference" but as long as your listing is coherent I don't see a problem.

Like:
SSB4 Title Themes
SSB4 Menu Themes
Mario Series
DK Series
Zelda Series
...

But even then, the official reference has an arbitrary way of ordering the files, doesn't seem to be alphabetical in a series, nor exclusively time of release related. The remixes are mix and matched with the original, with no real distinction to a Melee remix to a Brawl or a new one...

Just to update everyone on the advancement of the flac release. I'm doing all I can to painstakingly fit in as much detail in the tags to make this the ultimate compendium of Smash goodness.

As of right now, I have 300 files out of 532 edited to some level but only 136 that I consider "ready"...
I update you all on my tagging convention as it changed since last time.

So a filename now looks like this:
2 - Mario - 12 Ground Theme (Super Mario Bros. 3) [Super Smash Bros. Melee].flac

It is named following this set of rules:
"Disc# - GreaterSeries" - "Track#" "Title (game this melody originates from or some info to differentiate between similar named songs eg. all the ground themes) [Game to first feature this particular arrangement].fileextension
Disc# refers to the particular games in order, like 1 is SSB series, 2 is mario, 3 is DK and so on.

That's the name for the file in your window manager, but in a program like MediaMonkey you can see more tags in the files:
Like the date and original date, which are 2014 (since SSB4 is out this year) and the date the first game to feature this arrangement is from.
So all songs ending in [Super Smash Bros. Melee] will have date = 2014 and original date = 2001.
All songs ending in [Super Smash Bros. Brawl] original date = 2008
All songs in original like "Gerudo Valley [Ocarina of Time]" original date = 1998

For every single song I'm looking at the original artist and composers. When songs are arranged, the artist is the arranger as the sound test states, the composer is the writer of the original songs. When there are many composers like for Super Mario Galaxy we have Mahito Yokota; Koji Kondo, the order dictates their role. Mahito Yokota wrote much of the game score but used cues from earlier work from Kondo who also supervised the game soundtrack. So the composers are in order.
Artist for Mario Galaxies is "Suoer Mario Galaxy Orchestra" as the game credits say. But for earlier games, like Ocarina of Time, the composer is also the one who programmed the songs (or at least I think so, gonna check).

Sometimes, for medleys, the composers appear in order the game music is from in the medley. So yeah it's long but there's a max of info to lookout for cool trivia!

Also for some vocal songs, I know the singer, like Ashley's Song in English, the artist will say "The Arranger"; "Singer, instrumentist etc." and in this case, it is Aubrey Ashburn. I don't know the one in japanese though.

What do you mean by that? They are like the original, but at 48 khz now. They kept them mostly the same arrangement, but they did change a couple things in brawl that are still noticeable here. Like "Ice Mountain" from Ice Climbers had the samples for the organ changed in Brawl and the track sounds nicer to my ears now...

Yes, I should have seen it... But they seem a bit clearer, maybe they edited the files a bit? The versions that differ ever so slightly in brawl (Ice Mountain has a different organ sound) are the same as that version. So yeah, all 32 khz upsampled to 48 khz, 16 bit with compression...

Well, I don't wanna be rude to anybody, but 24 bit doesn't "add" headroom to a signal. If the source is clipping, it will do nothing. 16 bit and 24 bit refer to the precision of the measurement of a sample all the way from 0 (silence) to the max (clipping). The frequency refers to how many samples are taken per second, in khz. CD standard is 16bit samples 44 100 times per second. Here we have 48 000 hz files, so yay!

If the source states a sample is value 0.5, it will do nothing to convert it to 0.50000 except take extra space.

Just to be fair with our process, the original game files take approx 2.4Go in native format, but no player reads that natively and now with 300 of the 532 files in my library in flac, I get to more than 6Go. (That's still significantly less than the 20Go + 24 optical audio rip though, and ours is also closer to source material.) The saying goes: The less steps you take from the source, the best the quality is.

We basically double the data for each song by looping it 2 times, whereas the original has coded loop points. And we add a 10 second fadeout. Since the original files are already compressed to some extent, converting them to flac and taking extra space is the best compromise as there is no quality loss. The flacs are the closest you'll get in compatible sound to the orignal files except using vgmstream on a player but bye bye compatibily and mobile use... Flacs are sample to sample identical to the source file read waveform but are losslessly compressed, which is not detrimental to the signal as an mp3. And it is generally a bad practice to convert lossy to lossy.

Anyway, to each one to judge the pros and cons, but I place my Nintendo seal of quality to this present rip in progress! ;P


And this will be the best quality you'll ever get for this soundtrack, except the truly lossless double CD that'll come next year, but at the expense of a 44khz signal and like 90% of the total soundtrack.

It doesn't "add" headroom, I know that, but having worked in a recording studio for quite some time now I've just come to always seek to record at 24 bit res wherever possible just to ensure all dynamics, all levels of loudness and quietness are captured clearly without anything being lost. Even if the source is of lower depth, it's just a peace of mind thing! Sample rates are a different story of course.

Also, just to clarify now, both this and my project are using the same source (direct game rips) -- so there is no longer a quality/source gap, just organizational/tagging differences!
Also just for information sake, if needed, once you get all the FLACs done and looped it'll be around 12GB - if you even needed to know that for any purpose, ha! But this is what it has come up to on my end!
