Hello Mixi, first I wanted to thank you for sharing with us these awesome soundtracks! and especially thank you for the Fightning EX Layer collection! secondly I wanted to ask if you are manually tagging all these songs, because I was listening to EX Layer (the new one) soundtrack and noticed that Garuda theme is named in your release "Deck Brawl" but on yt that his theme is named "Raven Cave", not like its big deal I just wanted you to know, thanks again for sharing this with us! and I recommend this game to any fan of old school fgs, quality game!

I dont know but maybe cd came with wrong tags?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3dpJf_b7Iqo
Here guys talk about their song names:
The video was initially named 17 track Terry Bogard theme i assume, but the guy told him to change name to Blind Moss that is 13 track:
https://vgmdb.net/album/81704
Maybe just guy who uploaded the songs used your cd rip with miss-tagged songs though.

Thanks for informing, I usually rip with EAC without tags and import tags from VGMdb.
Probably I miss tag it, sometime I apply the tags without sorting it properly.

The extra disc comes included in the general release of the Early Collection Box (doesn't include the limited edition DVD). It shares the same jewel case as disc 7 as shown here: https://www.beep-shop.com/ec/products/detail/343

out of curiosity, will this massive collection ever be reuploaded? or does the owner of the collection not have the original music files anymore? if by any chance the entire collection can be recovered, imo i think a better alternative than MEGA would be unlimited google drive, they're not picky about what gets backed up on user accounts from my experience

The problem would be choosing the right platform, and reuploading or configuring a torrent, which would take a lot of time for such a big thread as this. I assume people around here have all of this music between all of us, I probably have about half the stuff in here…my view is make a torrent collection of all the albums ever released here and post it on Nyaa.si.

About the bolded bit: Man, have you ever bothered to spend a few minutes actually checking+reading a few linked pages on the file-hosting websites you use? Most, if not all of them have "DMCA Takedown requests" pages where users can report an illegally hosted file/copyright infraction (granted, most websites actually want users to prove they're authorized to act on behalf of the copyright holders, but there are a few that don't give a damn about it). Now that that's out of the way, a couple of other things:

1) Have you forgotten, fine gentlemen and ladies, that this forum has been "well indexed" on the likes of Google for YEARS? Hell, it tends to be among the first results you get when searching for OSTs/VGM. It's reasonable to think that the Shrine has attracted the attention of those nasty legal folks [sarcasm, in case someone doesn't get it], too. They're keeping an eye on this place, we know for a fact there are guys working for the likes of Music Box Records and Varse Sarabande watching the Shrine.

2) Bit of history lesson: does any of you remember the original MEGAUPLOAD.com, the one with 45 seconds waiting times between downloads and captchas? There was a time, back when "Download Links" still was a single forum (not split into Video Game, Film/Television and Anime… Let's say around 2007) when MEGAUPLOAD links didn't even last a minute upon being publicly posted here… Hell, Download Links even had a sticky thread with the title: "Do not use MEGAUPLOAD!".
In short, the website had this place blacklisted and links were systematically terminated on their end.

3) I should have made this point zero, but humour me and remind me, what do we do around here? Illegally share copyrighted material, now, there isn't a single file-hosting website that doesn't warn you about how using it to illegally host material that doesn't belong to you is forbidden… So, keeping that in mind (and also knowing that "you" post your links for everyone to see, Shriners… Everyone, you're giving the aforementioned legal guys that roam this place an easy shortcut)… What the heck do you expect to happen? You best accept that your accounts, along with every file connected to them, are bound to get eventually terminated the moment you host copyrighted material. Some are lucky and last a bit longer than others, but with threads such as this? A massive collection of public links? I'm amazed they manage to last this long, given how file-hosting websites got the crap scared out of 'em when the original MEGAUPLOAD.com got seized.

I'm honestly surprised at how ignorant some of you sound: for fuck's sake, you've been illegally sharing copyrighted material on a rather famous board, with tons of users giving websites refbacks [whenever a browser traverses an incoming link from Site A (originator) to Site B (receptor) the browser will send a referrer value indicating the URL from where the user came… What does this mean? When you click a link from the Shrine, they know you're coming from FFShrine and if what happened in the past with MEGAUPLOAD is to be believed, they may very well choose to terminate the link/account just because of that], do you seriously believe you'd get to last?

And no, there isn't a safe way to share stuff illegally, anyone who states the contrary is full of shit… Every goddamn system has its drawbacks, on top of the big and evil DMCA takedown, of course.

Warlord500
09-28-2019, 07:45 AM
yeah if anything, these forums has been around for years and will probably continue to exist for many more years to come.

but what probably won't continue to exist are downloads links to our favorite VGM soundtracks, which is why i've been searching for my absolute favorite soundtracks and getting them before it's too late.

because if they do get taken down, the only hope is that someone got it before and reuploads it, always treat every link on this place like it's going to be removed or no longer available.

that being said i massively appreciate this place a lot, and i hope that it's old and new members share many more soundtracks and contributions.

I posted that in a moment of puzzlement without even considering the legal part. I don't know if this "protects" my account but labelling the folders with a language only you understand has been keeping my files "safe" in these 6 years. I don't know how much it can last though.

In regards to Leon's post, the most important thing in our world to me is the preservation of existing history and data (more important than encouraging creation of future works), so anything which stands in the way of that is morally reprehensible to me. I wish we could abolish copyright and create some sort of legally sanctioned Digital Library of Alexandria which catalogs all digitized media, and is available to all, so that every last VGM album would be preserved for thousands of years. It would have to be made in such a way that it could not be taken down, open-source, mirrorable, and decentralized on dozens of servers across the world, though at the same time the main server being paid for with taxes, and there would need to be harsh legal consequences for it going down, so that no one would ever be able to do so, outside of some mass disaster.

While not everyone here may voice it in the same way, I think the guiding light of preserving beloved soundtracks that the general public mostly overlook, or are willing to let be lost as sacrifice so that the status quo of copyright may be maintained, are why a large part of people here are willing to invest so much time into this. In 1000 years, no one will be praising the people who struck down copyrighted downloads, they'll be praising the people who preserved the works in as many places as possible, so that they couldn't be lost when inevitably the official stores go down, the artists fail to reupload their own works at other stores, the artists pass away, discs go out of print, become incredibly rare and expensive, or are a limited run by design, original recordings are lost by copyright holders, only lossy is available, soundtracks aren't deemed profitable enough to sell, etc...

if everybody with the means downloaded and seeded enough torrents, this would be a possibility. As we all know, any centralized hub or library is prone to shutdown or takedown, or physical disasters like fire/natural disaster. You even explained this in your 2nd paragraph, which basically contradicts your first. It's a rule of thumb that anything the government undertakes to do, it achieves the opposite and does so at greatly multiplied cost. The reason we aren't living in space colonies across the universe right now is because of relying on government to achieve anything.

likewise so-called 'artists' fixated on copyright laws, royalties, and protecting their brand are the anthesis of self-same title. They're simply desperate paupers demanding daddy government protect their stolen-profit stream.

You ignore that your "stance" is also morally reprehensible, when looking at the current state of things, that is. That hub, that database would be a dream… The reality of things, though, is different: what we have are multiple individuals, among them there are those that composed, arranged, performed the music we illegally share here… Not to mention the folks that took care of everything that goes into the creation of the CD/DVD/Blu-Ray.
Yet, here we are, pieces of shit that … For all intents and purposes (especially with regards to the most recent releases), are potentially depriving these folks of the income they earned. Let's not kid ourselves, please, for every person which is so passionate to buy an actual copy of the album there are hundreds… Thousands more who are more than happy to stick to their pirated copy.
I'm all for changing copyright laws, but the copyright holders have every right to strike down any illegally provided download link they come across, to say otherwise is completely asinine. They have a right to protect their work.

I'm not going to comment on the preservation of things, that sounds completely dumb to me: death is the price we pay for getting the chance to live; it may come a day — if we're lucky, long after our departure when not a single soul will know that we once existed, because there will be no evidence of it.
Everything which is connected to us is bound to eventually disappear. Accept that not even what we create can escape this fate, it is all going to disappear at some point, stuff is bound to be lost. The idea itself is laudable, mind, but you can't preserve everything.

preserving VGM soundtracks is a long distance dream in all honestly, even though there's massive preservations of VGM roms and isos floating all over the internet, the music of those games is much harder to find and preserve.

and when it comes to copyright and whatnot, users here have a choice of wether to share their hard bought OST or not, to respect the composers who made them in the first place, and IMHO while copyright exists to protect many peoples hard work, let's not forget that some people abuse copyright to an insane degree.

as i have said before, this place will exist (for how long no one knows) but the download links that are often posted here won't continue to exist for a long time, evident by this OST collection's massive deletion of links, before this happens to any recent uploads the best thing one can do really is downloading what's left and store it in all media storage methods possible, online and offline, another solution would be to upload them to archive.org, as they are exempt from DMCA takedowns, that's what i can think of.

that being said, this place is truly superb, if only it wasn't so unstable at times (couple of days ago it was up for sale for some strange reason) and the community is truly awesome, it's nice to know you kind folks, truly nice

While I appreciate your work as a moderator and keeper of the forum, your opinions are, at the least, completely wrong. Copyright itself is a crime against the public. Since no such thing as 'intellectual property' can be proven to have ever existed.

On point #2, preservation is the only thing we have to keep civilization alive and moving forward, and in the event it collapses or is destroyed, the remnants can be discovered and learned from later on. This has happened before, as an Italian like yourself should know.

I guess you weren't aware of the great efforts undertaken by many mostly Italian intellectuals to discover and establish the very theories and practice of music which we rely on to this day by parsing ancient Greek and Roman texts, combined with those kept by Christians and universities and also even recovered from Arabia, to improve theory and practice and eventually be inspired to create the 'nuove musiche' which is still the basis of modern music (having led to the propagation of practical harmony used by the likes of Corelli Vivaldi Bach Handel et al).

The idea that maintaining and propagating our history is meaningless because life inevitably ends would inherently end the project of civilization as an effort at all; in other words, barbarism.

1000 years in the future is much too time to predict what'll happen and I doubt our precious rips will survive that long.

Oh, I am aware of that stuff, I studied, after all. I just no longer care about preservation of whatever constitutes the human civilization, for a multitude of reasons. Okay, let's keep it to music: so much of it has already been lost, so many doujin and obscure video game+Anime+movies music releases that were once — solely available as 128 kbps MP3 files (or encoded at worse bitrates, even) have disappeared from the Web years and years ago, scattered around countless boards not dissimilar to this very one. That alone would be enough to state that on a technical level, the preservation project a few of you seemingly dream of has already failed.
Let's humour ourselves and move onto a more general level: some of the worst threats to the preservation of music have already been evidenced by you and the other user, Vyse, still… Let's expand a bit on it, or risk repeating a few points.

- Sometimes the original recordings/master tapes may be lost/not "survive" the passing of time or, again, accidents/natural disasters;
- Other times, even the composer doesn't keep copies of the music he/she wrote.
- This point has been subtly hinted at just above, but not everyone cares about this in the same way. I'm sure we've both seen it happen countless times: composers that keep their music encoded in MP3 format, dead torrents of "collections", closed FTP servers or, to hit a bit closer to this place and, well, the lossless VGM thread… Failed replacements.

EDIT: No matter how much effort you put into archiving, it may all disappear due to stuff out of your control, so, why bother? I already know the answer, still, it may all be for naught… Blame/Fault wouldn't necessarily lie with you, either.

Hahahahahahahahaha! Dear Lord, here I am, almost 4:10 AM around here and I'm laughing in front of a monitor, kind of brings back memories of happier days.
Please, stick with me and the Shrine a bit more, let's see what happens here: someone posts a re-upload request in a thread… More often than not, that poor user gets ignored. It doesn't matter that a few other users who posted in the thread are still active nowadays and are known hoarders of lossless encodes… The user won't get a re-upload; now, before someone erroneously picks this as the chance to jump at my throat, I'm not blaming any of those users, the reason(s) why they choose to refrain from re-uploading are theirs and theirs alone (plus, as I love to say myself: nobody owes anyone shit around here), I'm just using this example to illustrate the state of things: it's every man for himself around here. We get what we want, then we leave; re-uploads are way rarer than it would seem.
We're supposed to all work together and preserve music to the best of our abilities? Sorry, can't see that happening in the foreseeable future.

Also, maybe it's due to the fact that I've contributed art to computer games that have ended, without fail, illegally shared on torrent websites, but I do think that artists, regardless of the type, should have some way to legally protect themselves (and what could be their source of income)… If they can achieve that by getting a link to an illegal download of an album they released two days ago deactivated, so be it.

Well, I don't mean to say that 'the entire body' of the works (including doujinshi, demos, tapes. etc,) of things like you mention even could be preserved, and I never would claim such a thing. I think its clear that any any point in time, most of the things we would consider worth preserving are almost certainly lost, and only certain better kept or simply lucky artifacts survive.

As commentary, I'll just add that probably between all of us, various fragments of these smaller things exist and can be shared. That's the good of the community aspect here. I know I have lots of random things that probably I never even wanted but just download for the hell of it cuz I saw it might become rare one day.

"Oh, I am aware of that stuff, I studied, after all. I just no longer care about preservation of whatever constitutes the human civilization, for a multitude of reasons. "

I find this a baffling statement without qualifications.

": No matter how much effort you put into archiving, it may all disappear due to stuff out of your control, so, why bother? I already know the answer, still, it may all be for naught… Blame/Fault wouldn't necessarily lie with you, either."

Well, I would like to challenge that fate if possible. I don't like the idea of a world where everything resets every generation. I think we tried that for like a million years before discovered civility as a species.

I know for a fact ive done way more than I ought to to upload, re-upload, answer requests etc. on this forum, but I won't pretend the people asking weren't grateful. The real reason Im always harping about torrents and other failsafes is just because of the mental anguish that must be overcome for anyone to actually answer these type of requests, due to our lazy nature.

Personally I couldn't care less if any downloads are taken down for whatever reason. I just think that better business models would proliferate much more and more spare income would exist for customers if we weren't chained to the copyright cartels from the beginning.

As we all know the corporations gain vast legal protections to pilfer from the public and incentives to invest beyond their means constantly, gained from legal corporate charter provisions, copyright being just one egregious privilege. You can blame the rise of statism and false enlightenment values in the 18th century for that - whereby a powerful and 'rightful' central state can dictate a nation and grant its bastard children, corporations, superior rights over average persons as both will profit in tandem as per the original royal charter and joint-stock companies.

In the past artists relied on a few rich patrons, but now they are relying on many poor ones. It would be great if there were many rich patrons instead. Who would bother trying to enforce a certain sales method for their games and CDs it they could more easily incentivize patrons and donations for more rich work instead? The flawed Malthusian model of the world has been at the core of this fallacy, of scarcity over abundance. While resources appear scarce, human ingenuity is infinite and could spur on infinite growth for all of us and not just for certain central banks and the nations they control.

But in case anyone finds Medarock, feel free to share that.

I don't want to give up on mixi just yet. There's been times mixi hasn't (re)uploaded albums for 3+ months. However, I am bit concerned mixi and Trypetide have both been offline all this time. I did manage to download mixi's albums that were still available (which isn't much), but I'd like to get everything that mixi uploaded since they are so limited and hard to find.

Anyways, I noticed I was missing the Rage Racer Remix + extra disc in my collection. Did anyone happen to grab it before the link went offline?
