Raidenex recommended forcing everyone to vote every round or be disqualified.
Charlemagne recommended having a trusted pool of voters. I think this is a pretty great idea, but it would eliminate a lot of good new voters that we could get.
I think I have come up with a rather ingenius solution to try for the next round so tell me what you think:
Each persons vote is worth a different amount depending on how many times they have voted before. I made a formula which i think would work well for this.
Example: Smokey has voted the most out of any person here with 37 votes throughout all the rumbles. Since 37 is the highest number of votes from any one person at the moment, I use it as a denominator.
Smokey's vote would be worth 37(the current number of votes he has made) divided by 37 (the highest number of votes by any one person).
Hogan's vote would be worth 33 divided by 37.
A person who just came in and voted for the first time would be worth 1 divided by 37.
This makes everybody's vote counts, but makes regular voters count quite a bit more, it also rewards constant voting. Let me know if this is the way you guys want to do it.
Rapture
01-08-2005, 11:49 AM
Hey, that is a pretty good idea, if you can handle all that maths - coz I couldn't. My votage would be pretty crap though coz I only started voting when Milkman took over.
My vote goes to Final Fantasy X.
And on the next subject issue, phew RPG's is/was a really long catergory, maybe we should stick with 16 max for each catergory, that way it doesn't appear to "drag" on.
I think action/adventure or driving/related.
Zikan
01-08-2005, 01:28 PM
Well, that would mean that Newbs that want to become serious voters at first get a small portion of the pie. THis might discourage them.
secondly, this would mean that the more serious voters get the games they want. Not very fair as this means that games that smokey wants in might not be reflected by wants of all the other voters, voters who have less votes then smokey. not that games that smokey choose are bad, is just that they might not be waht the majority wants..........
I personally think that it is a bit undemocratic. Anyway, vote goes to Final Fantasy X
Rapture
01-08-2005, 01:42 PM
Yeah, I know this may seem like a contradiction but on the same page, n00bs who subscibe to this thread may WANT to become serious voters, and to make their vote count, want to get loads of votes in, thus it could ATTRACT them to the rumble iykwim.
Even if it is maybe a bit n00bist I am happy whatever we do personally.

Well, that would mean that Newbs that want to become serious voters at first get a small portion of the pie. THis might discourage them.
Or, like Zikan said, it could encourage them to post more often.
secondly, this would mean that the more serious voters get the games they want. Not very fair as this means that games that smokey wants in might not be reflected by wants of all the other voters, voters who have less votes then smokey. not that games that smokey choose are bad, is just that they might not be waht the majority wants..........
Not really. It would mean that more serious voters have a better chance of getting the games they want. Which I think is good. The more serious voters don't just vote on things because of hype or bias (for the most part) and so their opinion is usually more justified. Smokey's vote would only be worth a very small percentage more than another regular voter, so what smokey wants to win could be easily cancelled out by just a couple votes for something else.
I personally think that it is a bit undemocratic.
All democracies in the world have an age limit that you must reach before you are able to vote. This is to ensure that the voters are mature enough to be well informed of the candidates. That is what I am going for here as well, but instead of eliminating the possibility for the "younger" crowd at ffshrine to vote at all, their vote still counts but just a bit less.
Hey, that is a pretty good idea, if you can handle all that maths - coz I couldn't. My votage would be pretty crap though coz I only started voting when Milkman took over.
The math is no problem for me, I've already written up an Excel Spreadsheet that would take care of all of that. As for your vote counting less because you were running it before, I don't quite think that's fair, so I gave you a bit of a bonus because although you didn't vote in those rounds, you were participating, so don't worry about your vote counting low.
Edit: Also just as a note, I went through the past RPG rumbles and calculated them using this formula. For the most part the outcome was the same, except for a few key battles. These are the battles that the outcome would have been different:
Diablo VS. Neverwinter Nights
Super Mario RPG VS FF7
KOTOR VS FF6
FF7 VS Morrowind

Now lets move on. Start nominating your choices for best Platformer. These are games like Super Mario, Metroid, Mega-man, or Contra. Some of the newer games of this genre are Jak and Daxter, Rachet and Clank, and Klonoa. Start naming names guys. Super Mario Bros. 3
Super Mario Bros.
Donkey Kong Country
Jak and Daxter
Crash Bandicoot

Sonic and Knuckles
Sonic the Hedgehog
Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time

I agree, I think allowing one game per series would be for the best unless another game in the series shows a distinct difference in gameplay (as with Super Mario World to Super Mario 64).
So far the list I'm thinking of is:
Super Metroid
Castlevania: Symphony of Night
Rayman 2
Spyro: Year of the Dragon
Super Mario 64
Super Mario World
Donkey Kong Country
Jak and Daxter
Crash Bandicoot

Just one game per series unless drastic change in gameplay (example Super Metroid to Metroid Prime. Echoes isn't a big change from Prime, so not listed.
Also, I'd prefer Mega Man 2 over any in the entire series.
Agreed and changed.

Well, there is 16 on that list up to now. If Tomba is agreed to, then we are going to have to boot the amount up to 32, or maybe reduce some, becuase I can't think of any numbers which half in to even numbers between 16 and 32.
In any case, I agree with every title on that list, and I can't really think of any more that will do well in this rumble.

I want to leave the list at 16 this time. 32 took way too long and got boring really quick. Hopefully this will keep things fast and a bit more exciting.
Any more disagreements need to be brought up soon.
These are the changes to the Rumble that I have made:
Each persons vote is not worth the same. The more you participate in the Rumble, the more your vote is worth. I have a handy-dandy vote-worth calculator that I will be using to figure up the scores (hopefully this will add a bit to the excitement as well because just because something has more votes does not necessarily mean it's going to win.) This way hype will not be as big of a factor as it has been as well.
The Rumble will be updated every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 10pm my time, which is Central Standard Time in the states.
Before we were attempting to keep the discussions to a minimum and just focus on the battles. I don't like this, and I would like to promote discussion more. Try to justify your reasoning for voting for the game you voted for. If you disagree with something somebody said about a game, feel free to comment on it. In depth discussions about games are encouraged.
That's pretty much it. All battles are still random, remember to bold your choices.
Rumble will start on Wednesday the 19th.

Round 1, Battle 1
Metroid Prime: As intergalactic bounty hunter Samus Aran, your quest is to explore Tallin IV and stop a crew of evil space pirates. This sequel to the SNES gem Super Metroid features a new first-person perspective and updates the action to full 3D. The action revolves around exploration, puzzle solving, and, of course, firepower. Old favorites like the Freeze and Wave beams will be available, along with a new arsenal of sci-fi weaponry.
Castlevania: Symphony of Night: Take control of Alucard as he plumbs the depths of Castlevania to search for the cause behind its sudden reappearance. Along the way Alucard can re-aquire his vampiric powers as well as using weapons, potions and other magical items. But he'll have to conserve his energy for the long battle against hordes of hideous undead and other minions of darkness.

Metroid Prime. I only bought this on the weekend, and I haven't stopped playing it since - one of my favourite games on the GameCube. Although the controls took a little getting used to after months of Halo 2 and Half-Life 2, I was zipping around as a little ball in no time.
This game is completely different to what I expected - before I purchased it, I would have thought it belonged in the FPS category. But this game is a platformer through and through, and it's a game that captures the feel of the 2D Metroids perfectly.
