... Here's a little, bonus tune, about collecting real cool stuff ! ...

Skullmonkeys

by The Neverhood, Inc., for PlayStation (31/01/1998)

Composer : Terry Scott Taylor

179,9 Mb .rar – I never use password, and encourage you to use this soundtrack for whatever you want (spread it, upgrade it, remix it, etc.).

NB : I favor mobility and feeling over technical perfection, thus why the MP3 format, why there can be some sound effects, and why some tracks aren't top notch quality. However, I will only post here what I consider to be my best albums so far, leaving the rest available on my YouTube playlist if you're interested.

Some tracks of this album were recorded using ePSXe. I played the game on a real console and was satisfied with the result, but feel free to look somewhere else for a better quality. I'd be glad to update my work if you have any source to provide, for I don't have what's necessary to record on real hardware.

What's missing for this to be perfect ? By my standards, better rips of each 1st version of levels music, and Klaymen's voice when he falls. And Universe Enema ?

IMPORTANT : Main source for this album was a lossless .ape rip of the ost (http://vgmdb.net/album/6901), which you can download from this russian link (http://narod.ru/disk/5639773000/Imaginarium%20-%20Songs%20from%20the%20Neverhood%20%5Blossless%5D .rar.html).

Imaginarium – Songs from the Neverhood also covers The Neverhood (PC) and BoomBots (PlayStation), which I haven't fully played yet.

I was convinced this game was lost to time. I'm glad to see I am not the only one who remembers this gem.

That Bonus Room song still makes me laugh way too hard. Thanks for the upload.

happy kitty :)

yey

never played this due to not having a console... I loved The Neverhood I only ever played a demo of that too though, as back then most games weren't sold very often in the UK and the shareware buy ones always wanted you to call american numbers and stuff, none of it was very accessible for a little girl to buy really lol... I only played the neverhood properly with an Ebay version later like 10 years later... so much has changed now

games i really remember playing when tiny are doom when I was 6 (off a shareware CD and played it in DOS SHELL) and mr blobby and the Dizzy prince of the yolk folk adventure game and Discworld on floppy discs... I think my parents kind of bought them to try stop me playing the "inappropriate" violent games off the shareware CDs that came with magazines hehe... didn't do me any harm though at all, in the least, I worry for the future generations now "microsoft family safety" is built into computers with windows 8, it's so Orwellian... I think future generations may not be as open minded due to having the internet censored for them too..

...It's sad.

but yeah skullmonkeys makes me happy

i just like saying the name

skullmonkeys

like catfish

or meowfish

or kittypotato

if the new Alice game hadn't been made in China I wonder how much better it could have been... I may be being a bit nationalist but I definitely prefer british humour and horror, so many countries just have no sense of when it's just getting cheesy instead of funny... the people who were members of the original "The Neverhood, Inc." are one of the wonderful wonderful exceptions :)

what is the difference between this and the russian lossless link? because I went straight and downloaded that as I avoid mp3s whenever I can hehe

Main album in this thread is the Skullmonkeys MP3 one with the tracklist. The two other links ( russian link or mine ) provide the .APE lossless ost available on vgmdb.

Yeah, Skullmonkeys may be one of the most overlooked gem I know of. Actually I even wrote a review (http://www.jeuxvideo.com/articles/0001/00015766-skullmonkeys-test.htm) for a French website, hoping more cool people would discover it.

I personally played the game when I was, maybe, 11 or 12 years old, at a friend's house. He didn't warn me about the Bonus Room...
Awesome memories... trying to beat Joe-Head-Joe without weapons, writing his pattern and restarting over and over...

That is not what I asked, I already said the russian one is lossless o_O What is the actual difference between your one and the russian one other than it being lossless? Is there no difference, when you say "main source" you really mean "only source"? Cos Russians (unlike Spanish) are people too, some are quite nice actually, they deserve credit if they are the actual ones who did the ripping :)

The russian rip helped me to create the main Skullmonkeys album. Apart from that, I decided to give the link for those interested in the actual lossless, entire and official ost (which is very different is you check both tracklists, because it covers three games and not just Skullmonkeys), and because two links are always better than one, I simply uploaded the same lossless ost on my account in case the russian link gets down. I'm talking about source when I'm talking about the MP3 Skullmonkeys album, so no it's not the only source.

oh so which files are not sourced from the russian one? I'm confused what the point is if they are already in highest quality on that link?

... did you at least take the time to compare both tracklists ? and do you know these games ? We have about 50 tracks for Skullmonkeys on the main link, and about 30 tracks for Skullmonkeys in the ost, therefore all the others can't be sourced from the lossless ost source. Plus, as I say in the NB, there are people like me who clearly see what is the point in choosing MP3 over lossless formats (mobility, for example). I used the lossless source simply to provide the best MP3 quality I could for the main album, but unfortunately, the official ost doesn't cover everything, so I had to find or record other sources. That's as simple as that.
