THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA (Production Click Tracks) – http://www.mediafire.com/?qh4djuuvhtkkjxk
These tracks, up until a few years ago, were used on all productions and cast recordings of the show, and are basically a form of pre-recorded pit-orchestra supplementation. Typically, during performances the conductor will don a pair of headphones to keep the orchestra in time with the tracks (he receives a metronome click in one ear and a mono version of track in the other), which incidentally, also includes the Phantom and Christine’s pre-recorded vocals on the title track (this is never performed live due to the complex staging involved and the use of doubles during the first half of the sequence).
Finally, both were replaced with newer, more rockier versions a few years ago now, but still make a nice piece of listening nostalgia for any long-term fans of the show!
Anyway, next up are three song instrumentals from a couple of Lesley Garrett albums (originally), that utilises the original show orchestrations:
1, Think of Me
2, All I Ask of You
3, Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again

Finally, here’s a number of song instrumentals from the 1993 TER London studio cast recording that again features the original show arrangements played by a 40-piece symphony orchestra. The track list is as follows:
1, Overture
2, Think of Me (abridged)
3, Angel of Music
4, The Phantom of the Opera (minus the official production click track)
5, The Music of the Night
6, Prima Donna
7, All I Ask of You
8, Entr’acte
9, Masquerade (abridged)
10, Point of No Return

Update – here’s a complete set of instrumentals from the Japanese 10th anniversary cast recording. Be advised however, the quality is pretty awful (mono tracks and an annoying sonic disturbance on what’s left of the higher frequencies).

Thank you for bot Phantom and Evita 🙂
No otherwise I’d have put from the 2004 film version (Joel Schumacher, Gerard Butler, Emmy Rossum etc). I’d love the title song from that, which must be out there somewhere along with the others. Oh well!
I love your posts. I’ve always wondered in the back of my head why these haven’t leaked sooner… I mean, I have to imagine there were practice demo’s handed out and then backups for the orchestra of the big performances and I knew these had to exist. Between this and the actual orchestral sessions for the albums are my holy grails.
I know it’s unlikely, but if you had anything for the sequel to Phantom, Love Never Dies, I’d love some stuff from that!
They’re not rare at all and are all over sites like Piano Files. I don’t mind posting them but be advised, the quality is not that great at all, plus, they’re all in mono with an annoying sonic disturbance on the higher frequencies.

The general process for any cast recording is the orchestra is always pre-recorded first, the cast members are then given an opportunity to practise in the studio with them before their voice is recorded alongside them. Some orchestra sets – particularly the one created for the Canadian cast recording from ‘Phantom’, have been re-used many times for different international cast albums, whereas for shows like ‘Les Miserables’, a new set is created each time there’s a new cast recording produced.
More recently, a set was created in-house by the theatre company responsible for the 2008 ‘non-replica’ Polish production of the show, some of which, have since found their way onto the net (I’ve got 9 of them in varying quality and format – i.e. the incomplete orchestra stems for two of the tracks in particular). However, I know all 13 tracks are out there in .wav format, it’s just a case of finding the source or someone close to it to get the tracks at that lossless quality.
Finally, tracks from various cast albums do get leaked from time to time after copies are run off for TV/promotional purposes. Over the years, I’ve been extremely fortunate in picking a number of these up for shows like ‘Miss Saigon’, ‘Chicago’, ‘Wicked’ and ‘Hairspray’ (sometimes just two or three tracks, sometimes the complete set) and am always on the look out for more!
I know it’s unlikely, but if you had anything for the sequel to Phantom, Love Never Dies, I’d love some stuff from that!
I’ve got two live orchestral instrumentals for both the title song and ‘Til I Hear You Sing’ from that (once again, originally recorded for a Lesley Garrett-type Silva Screen album release), some bits and pieces from act one of the Australian release, and a fair amount of stuff from act two of the same release. However, these particular ones are in Windows Media Format only and if there’s sufficient interest, I can get and post them in an original lossless format. Incidentally, like ‘Phantom’, ‘Love Never Dies’ also had a click track produced for one of the songs in it – ‘The Beauty Underneath’, which I’d love to get! I did have an excellent source who could have given me a copy during the show’s London run, unfortunately, I never got into it until after that run had finished and by the time I did, he’d already given back everything he had to do with the show including the track – argh!!!!
I dunno if it helps but I know that a good friend of mine posted this: Thread 121020
It’s not much new, but it’s all ripped from the blu ray so its good quality.
I would love anything additional you could post on it. It’s been growing on me as of late! I prefer the Australian production, but I know they, especially for the Film, reused a lot fo the same studio recordings as backing for newly recorded stuff or on its own for the songs.
He’s also really good at audio editing/cleaning so if that upper frequency can be removed or cleaned, I bet he could do it!
Thanks again!
Thanks again!
The tracks are far too low in quality for anything to be done to improve them – plus, it’s impossible to remove the sonic disturbance as a professional sound engineer told me it’s as a result of them being re-encoded at very low MP3 setting a few times over! They’ve been crushed to death in other words!
What exactly are these 1999 backing tracks? I have a set of full show orchestral tracks from the Japanese touring production (used 1992-2007ish, also used in the 1992 and 1999 Japanese cast recordings), which infamously never used an actual orchestra, and the quality is pretty bad. Just wondering if these are the same tracks.
Yeah, I’m referring to those tracks. I don’t have a copy, and would really like to hear them, as it is as accurate to the show orchestrations as you can get.

10, Point of No Return
why are there only 3 tracks i a file?
You’ve been duped as no permanent or touring version of the show has ever used pre-recorded instrumentals other than the ‘overture’ and ‘title song’ click tracks! What you most likely have is the leaked set created for the 1999 Japanese 10th anniversary cast recording (a completely different set was used for the original 1992 version, which you can easily tell if you just listen to it LOL). I’ve seen this set all over the net labelled as one thing or another (including the original London cast recording), but be assured, that’s what they are and that’s what they’re from!
Several people who have seen the tour have told me the same thing; there was no orchestra. Some stops in the early engagements (Osaka comes in mind, don’t have my videos onhand to check) had an orchestra, but eventually they only used these tracks. And I have made several comparisons with the 92 and 99 recordings, with minor tracking adjustments, they have the same backing tracks. Maybe you’re referring to the 1988 recording?
ETA: Osaka used these tracks aswell. A friend confirmed that the original Tokyo sit-down production used backing tracks aswell, those can be heard in the aforementioned 1988 cast recording. Compared those aswell with the audio from the TV broadcast video. I think all later Japanese sit down productions had a real orchestra, (The production’s official listing has several sit-down productions at the Shiki company, it’s not a continuous production) videos from 1996 and 2007 have ones.
In general, POTO in Japan is a strange creature. The original didn’t have an angel at all, Phantom had a magic pegasus instead, and the whole production was small scaled to the extreme. No jumping Raouls. Recent phenomenon have been the ill-fitting disgusting costumes copied from the US versions.

Yeah, I’m thinking the original 1988 cast recording. Thought the 10th anniversary one was the only one after that etc. Also, I’m surprised the various unions would allow them to use instrumentals as opposed to live musicians – it certainly would never happen here in the UK or on Broadway.
Anyway, here are my tracks, see if they’re the same as yours:

Those are the same ones, altough in slightly better quality. The ones I have seems to be the most common copy.
There are really no unions for performers/players in Europe and Asia, as the business is not really even comparable to UK or Broadway. The original Tokyo production was scheluded to run for 6 months, but they kept postponing the closing and eventually produced that touring production to satisfy the demad. The Copenhagen production had some backing tracks for some songs to make the sound more smooth and lush, only for about four songs or so though.
There has been several occasions where the licence holders have actually required the companies to use backing tracks to make up for the small orchestras. So yeah, there certainly is a difference.
Thank you for all of the backing tracks you’ve shared here and in other threads!
It would be even better if it was the movie instrumentals/recording sessions I was sharing though! My holy grail – everyone has one!
As for the digital noise removal, I see what you mean, it’s not like it was ripped with some sort of error, it’s just bad transcoding. That can’t really be fixed as you said 🙁 Still, this is something I’d listen to even though it’s mono and like this. It’s amazing. Love it!

Do you know you’re bloody right?! Have just downloaded a copy of the 1992 Japanese cast recording and it’s the same instrumentals only complete this time. Obviously, they re-used them for the 1999 10th anniversary cast recording and if the rest of what you say is true, then it’s possible the set does exist somewhere on the net in much better quality and in stereo to boot! I’m convinced Japan’s the area to concentrate on, so it’ll be a lot of searching using Google translate to try and track them down. One things definitely for sure though, the set we both have was transcoded down from a higher quality version and a few times at that, so is not the original source file! Thanks again for the information 🙂
Not for users with only one post 😉
What about for me, or JustinHoskie with 38 posts?? Please? 😉
That’s a false pretense that everyone has something to share.
It’s like this whole trading bullshit.
Most people have nothing to begin with.
This thread has really declined.

I don’t mind re-upping for users that have a post count running into double figures. Any less than that – particularly those with a post count of 1 is bloody joke in my opinion.
So, my three three uploads, the two I’m actively working on, the five or so I’ve been preparing, the few more I’m thinking about finding time for, all the time and effort I’ve put into my Lux Radio Theater edits, finding info on them (which isn’t particularly easy), and all the time and effort I put into my Music Behind the Magic upload, including spending about a month painstakingly transcribing all the lyrics and song notes included with the set, matching every single period… Is a joke? I just wanna be sure before I re-evaluate the time I’ve spent on everything.
Also, I apologize if I sound a bit snippy. I’ve been unable to find this anywhere else, and I’m dying to get it. No hard feelings. 🙂

I’m on about posts NOT uploads. Also, these tracks are quite readily available online – the bootleg Japanese tour tracks/1992/1999 cast recording set are on MP3 Skull for example (where I first came across them by accident), the 1993 TER London studio cast tracks together with the ‘Lesley Garrett: A Soprano in Love’ three are on iTunes and Amazon.

POTO Complete Show Instrumentals (Download Link)
Here’s the complete set originally produced for the 1992/1999 Japanese cast recordings (on top of being used for the Japanese touring production in place of a pit orchestra).
Zippyshare.com – The Phantom of the Opera (1992 Japanese Pre-Recorded Orchestra Set).rar (http://www69.zippyshare.com/v/80502690/file.html)
Once again, I think this bootleg originated from a cassette tape copy given to cast members to practise with and appears to be of the left hand channel only. I’m assuming therefore the right hand channel had the vocals in them, which is why it wasn’t included.

Re-up pleaseeeee 😀
Is it possible to re-upload this again? thank you so much!
POTO pre-recorded.rar (http://www.mediafire.com/download/a6vjanj5rkic3t2/POTO_pre-recorded.rar)
Japanese 1992 and 1999 pre-recorded orchestra tracks (also used for the Japanese touring version). Once again, these tracks are very low quality (MP3 128kps) and in mono.
I want to post here for comparison "Final Sequence"
Is it worth it to restore the rest of the songs?
Maybe someone has the recording in better quality?

The only thing you can do to this set is run a predictive noise reduction plug-in to remove the analogue crap from it and that’s it. Certainly don’t even bother trying to enhance it in anyway as all you’ll do is just enhance all the noise and imperfections in it. Finally, there doesn’t seem to be a better quality set of this available anywhere as I’ve been searching high and low for it for sometime now with no luck whatsoever.
Could i please may have these tracks? 😀 REALLY BIG PHAN!!! 🙂
The aforementioned link still works. FYI.

Yeah, it’s the Japanese touring set (they performed the show to these tracks instead of a live orchestra), which was also used for the 1992 and 1999 Japanese cast recordings. I got this set from someone on youtube originally and have been after a much better quality one and in stereo for some time now.
this is the best I’ve ever found sadly. Hopefully the good ones will see the light of day sometime soon.

The only other ones I’m aware of being out there are a few from the 2008 Polish cast recording, 9 from the non-official 1993 TER recording, 3 that Silva Screen did for Lesley Garrett, the original and newer overture and title song click tracks, the 2004 film tracks that I did and shared on here and that’s about it.
Finally, they haven’t recorded an orchestra set for years now, preferring to use and reuse the Canadian cast recording ones instead.
2) what this about the canadian cast recordings ones? Being from Canada I love anything related to that production…

More info on these tracks. They were produced by the Shiki Theatre Company in Japan not just for use on the 1992 and 1999 cast recordings, but also to give out to new cast members to rehearse with. Seeing as the show has been running for 25 years over there now, it’s a wonder that this is the only bootleg to have leaked from it. Undoubtedly there are others doing the rounds, probably on Japanese forums, so if you’re a dab hand at Japanese, you might just get lucky!
I’ll do a separate thread for these and will post them in FLAC.
Thanks very much 🙂 I so appreciate that
Could I trouble you for the 25th Anniversary tracks? Please and thank you 🙂
I’d love to hear these UK tour ones!
I for one would love to hear the Polish ones! I love the arrangements the production used. One of the few things I do like about that production, had the, uh, pleasure to see it live, but that’s another matter. 😉
Oh crud. 🙁
