Isolated scores

One of my biggest interests are isolated scores from DVD and Bluray. As i don’t have a player for laserdiscs, this is not something i have been collecting. Anyway, i have made quite a few rips of these isolated scores myself and wanted to check how much interest there would be for uploads and perhaps also if any of you have something to contribute with as well. These rips will be uploaded in flac but those of you that are more interested in mp3 can always convert them yourself. With all the apps out there it’s not a big problem doing so. But remember! By doing so you will degrade the quality further!

As i mentioned, these are my own rips and i always try to squeeze the most out of them, but in most cases, that’s what it is: The rip itself and not any alternates and such making it one of those "complete" or "even-more-completer" rip that people compete with. It’s the music as it is heard on the isolated track and nothing more (exception – if there are any incomplete songs, i have tried to find a lossless version of those.)

Do you happen to have access to any isolated score i don’t? I’m always interested if you could make the original AC3-file available (or whatever format it would be in)

To clarify for those wondering:

An isolated score is simply the music as a separate audio track on the DVD/BluRay (as opposed to the regular audio track with speech and SFX). Sometimes there is only music, sometimes it has the composer’s commentary as well and if you’re lucky, those commentaries do not mix with the music. There might also be significant drops in music volume due to composer’s commentaries and those isolated scores takes a lot more work before they’re done.
Rips of the front or rear or any channels with sfx and/or speech are NOT isolated scores but "simply" something where someone has tried isolating the music from the speech and SFX.
This thread will not have any such rips. It will only be about isolated scores.

As far as the "lossless" go… all of this is flac which is as lossless as it gets. The source itself is seldom lossless. See the excellent explanations a couple of posts further down about this.

Neither DVD’s or Blu Ray’s have lossless music tracks. They are simply mpeg encodings, for example the BFI have some of the highest mpeg encodings at 320 kbps but a standard DVD is usually 192 kbps encoding. They are just mp3 soundtracks!

DVD uses lossy ac3 (dolby digital) enconding @ 192kbps when 2-channel and 448 or 384kbps when 5.1.. Dolby digital ac3 is WAY better than mp3, even at 192kbps. Blu-ray can make the use of lossless audio such as DTS-HD Master Audio and Dolby TrueHD, but as far as I know, only one label uses it when it comes to isolated score…

Secondly, DVD and Bluray can have lossless audio tracks. DVD permits LPCM audio which is lossless. Bluray in addition permits Dolby True HD, and DTS-HD which are also lossless codecs.

It is entirely at the discretion of the producer whether or not to include a lossless isolated track.

Do you Have the Isolated Score of Bad Boys I ?

When Lily approaches house, enters looks around, this cue is not isolated. Again, I use vocal remove. Could go on like this. Some sections are isolated, others are not. I spent many hours going through disc working to locate and find cues. Another example, Jack shows Lily unicorns, cues here come and go. After Lily touches unicorn, Jack goes off. Lily follows, finds him and very nice cue kicks in, which is not isolated.

This is interesting, during Darkness and Lily scene (when Darkness comes through mirror), music on isolated score, is not the music if you play the disc without isolated score on. Very interesting here. It is after this sequence, there is no more isolated score as film continues with musical cues…

This is the musical score presented as a separate audio track on the DVD. I’ve tried to identify the tracks and name them according to the official release, but it is not the "same" as the commercial release. And yes, there are tracks here not on the commercial release. However, if they haven’t been available previously, i cannot say. There might be someone else out there that also has ripped this DVD release.

Yes, the original audio stream for the isolated score of BTILC was DTS 5.1. The software used for ripping those audio streams: DVDs – DVD Decrypter, BluRays – tsMuxer (with the help of AnyDVD HD). Since i don’t have that much experience in editing surround waves, i converted the streams to stereo. Any Dolby Digital – Headac3he, Dolby TrueHD – eac3to with the eac3to more GUI (only one isolated score with TrueHD – Elfman’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory), when it comes to DTS i’ll be darned if i can remember what software i used, since i reinstalled Windows a couple of months ago and don’t have all the progs installed yet. I think it was BeSweet with BeSweet GUI, but don’t quote me on that. (making mental note: try and learn to make multichannel rips).
Rush Hour 1 would be interesting 🙂 if nothing else, i would be interested in the ripped audio stream. Unfortunately, The Corruptor is not one of the isolated score streams i have access to.

I don’t know the interest any of you would have in surround rips of these. The total size of the files would be much bigger and you would need a surround set to be able to enjoy it. I know FLAC supports it (i’ve made rips of the LotR surround discs and converted to flac and it plays just fine). Anyway, what i will be offering from the start is stereo rips of what i have.

May i enquire what might be the difference between the isolated score to Big Trouble in Little China and the LaLalaland release? – I am not sure if the LLL release was actually missing anything at all, but would be nice to see if the Isolated score is…. Different! Cheers!

As sparktank said, the major difference is that the sound is in DTS 5.1 (which i’m not capable to edit at the moment, future project though). The differences in tracks is mainly that some tracks on the La-La Land release are split in the rip and some tracks are a bit more different. Those are: Looking for a Girl, Goodbye Jack and Big Trouble in Little China. The La-La Land release also have the track Stingers Montage in addition.

Ok, next upload is Papillon (tried downloading and unpacking it). There is an original CD release of this that you might want to find. Check it out here:

It’s the Universal France 15 track release and clocks in at 46 minutes 18 seconds. It has some of the tracks with a slightly different arrangement. Also there are two tracks there not present in this isolated score. The main reason for that is that they weren’t in the isolated score 😉 so, for you completionists out there i suggest you try and find that release. The two tracks are:

What this rip has extra are 4 source cues, so if you want it all… This might make a nice 2CD set. With that said, here’s the isolated score:

I believe this is only the music from the CD played from start to end, plus an extra track at the beginning and minus the songs. It’s not an isolated score as such, in that the music plays at the correct time and place in the film, but it’s still a separate audio track with the music and it will be as such i present it here. If you want better quality music, get the official CD and then add the first track from this (or anyone elses) rip 🙂

I actually bought the BluRay of this movie not long ago, but it says nothing about an isolated score on the back cover. Naturally i had to put it in my BluRay-player and check for myself. And what do you know… it HAD the menu choice of an isolated score in the special features. I didn’t even know it was there 🙂 I will look in to this some more when i get the time. Thanks for the heads up.

I have the CD, plus an expanded score (with forest sounds included) I located on the net. Have gone through DVD using vocal remove spotting various little cues here and there. I’ve noted 30 cues.

Example: Cue 4. Use – section (3 a) I copied from dvd using Vocal Remove. This cue is not on dvd isolated score. Name this cue: Darkness Speaks of Unicorn. Re-do this cue on dvd: 00:05:14:41 to 00:05:16:71.

In capturing cues, they are not something anyone this board would want. But for me, they are better than having nothing, or so called ‘Complete’ scores, (limited edition, "20th Anniversary Edition") which does not have music as heard in the film.

Can post the cues here as I spotted them with notations as I did with the example cue 4, that would bore you to sleep…

The next upload will be Alien, both the BluRay and the DVD version of the isolated scores, both theatrical and original versions. That means 4 different versions since they really are different between the BluRay and the DVD release.

And here they are, all 4 different isolated scores from Alien by Jerry Goldsmith. Don’t ask me WHY they differ between the DVD and the BluRay because i just don’t know. Perhaps someone else can shed some light there? What i do know is that they ARE different and that some tracks on the isolated DVD version is not present in the BluRay version due to licensing issues (track 13 in the Theatrical DVD version for example – End Titles (Symphony No.2 (romantic) Howard Hanson))

It’s the Universal France 15 track release and clocks in at 46 minutes 18 seconds. It has some of the tracks with a slightly different arrangement. Also there are two tracks there not present in this isolated score. The main reason for that is that they weren’t in the isolated score 😉 so, for you completionists out there i suggest you try and find that release. The two tracks are:

I have the recording sessions, OST and Bluray isolated score and all I can say is, it’s not complete. Some stuff is only available in the film version mix on the isolated score, and Elfman talks over those cues. I think one was where the museum is introduced, the one Dolarhyde visits.

Perhaps i wasn’t clear enough 🙂 whereever Elfman talks i used the official release to try and repair it. I didn’t mean i used entire tracks. And when i say complete, i mean complete isolated score. Not complete as in "i have tried to find every piece of music related to this". This is in fact the name of the thread – Isolated Scores. And don’t take this as criticism, i am just trying to explain where i’m taking this thread.

The rest of what i’m saying is directed to all of you out there:

I wish people could be a little more specific than just saying "Re-up. Links don’t work". Haven’t you been able to download the files for at least a couple of days? It’s no wonder the links don’t work during the most traffic heavy days and hours (weekends and daytime/evening Europe/USA).
If you can tell me in 2 or 3 days that the links haven’t worked at all during that time, i will be happy to re-upload or fix the links, but for now you will just have to wait. Remember, this is not me hosting the files but free servers. You get what you pay for and i’m not prepared to pay for the pleasure of making these files available. If anyone can find a more reliable alternative than the ones i’m using, please do tell and i will use it right away.

I too desire more clarity with regard to "links don’t work" – there’s a big difference between "file host has died / file has been deleted for copyright claim" and "file host says come back a bit later" – I think folk believe we’re piracy automatons who live our lives to buy CDs and spend 24 hours-a-day uploading and reuploading to a thousand different file hosts so that Mr "I MUST HAS THIS SCOAR NAO OR I IS DYE!" can save himself a short wait…

First – This is an isolated score with composer’s commentaries, so i had to fix that as best i could. Davis’ voice carries over into some tracks.

Everybody needs to learn that a lot of these DVD’s with/without isolated scores take time to rip. The one’s without take a LOT of time to edit to get something every close to an isolated score.

Look, I’ve no argument against you sharing your rip’s; only against your calling them Isolated Scores. They are not, and neither are they FYC releases. They are rips.

Here’s an isolated score i didn’t even know i had. I wanted the first X-Files movie on BluRay (Fight the Future, which in my opinion is a better movie) and when i found it at the store for a reasonable price, i bought it. When the weekend came and i was about to watch it, i discovered that i had bought this one instead… and then disappointment set in 😉 Anyway, someone here at these forums asked for the isolated score to this one. As far as i knew, my version of it didn’t have one. It didn’t say so on the back cover at least. However, i decided to put the disc in the player to check what extras it had and what do you know… it HAD an isolated score and now i present it to you.

This was a weird isolated score. It was and it wasn’t isolated. It clearly said in the disc menu that it was isolated, but it turned out it had small SFX here and there. Mostly footsteps and such and i have tried removing them as best i could, but they are present on some occasions.

Read my first post on what an isolated score is. *I* don’t make isolated scores, it’s the publishers of the Laser Disc/DVD/BluRay that do. I’m assuming you mean a rip of front and/or rear channels, but that’s not an isolated score. Even if i could make a rip like that, it wouldn’t belong in this thread. Sorry

I don’t think he can, but that raises an interesting question : I never heard of a DVD or BR of a TV Show with an isolated score, does anybody know if that exists ?

I have two, actually: Space 1999 and Red Dwarf. Both will be uploaded and presented here, but i’m not giving any promises as to when…

Come to think of it, i believe Caprica also has isolated scores. And of course the Twilight Zone from the 50s and 60s.

It might be listed under the special features, it might be listed under the different speech alternatives and in some cases, it might not be listed at all as in Goldsmith’s The Mummy.

How is this then different from the release by "Those that cannot be mentioned"? Well, there is a small part of the track "I Like You" that is not present in the isolated score and then the track "Escape (reprise) that is not present in the official release. And there you have it.

Interesting experiment this turned out to be, btw… lots more has asked for a link to the Escape from the Planet of the Apes isolated than has clicked Like or (dare i say) boosted my rep. Wonder why that is so hard?

Despite how slow the Alien movies are, I’m finally making my way through the series and so far Aliens is my favorite. You simply can’t go wrong with Cameron. However, I like H.R. Giger’s original alien design than any of the others.

I have to confess: I have big problems connecting to a score of a movie i don’t enjoy. And this is a movie… let’s say i could enjoy it as an action movie, but as a part of the Alien saga? Nope. There is a technical chance, but as it’s not an isolated score in technical terms it will not appear here (check my first post on the definition of what an isolated score is). I might get around to trying to isolate the music from speech/sfx though and make a new thread in that case. I’ll let everyone know when i have checked the bluray…

I have found an old post on other forum about that, but the link is dead, and files were not lossless.

Either there is or there isn’t an isolated score. You can’t create one afterwards, that’s not an isolated score but a fanrip of either the front or the rear channels. Read the first post for a better definition of it 🙂

Edit: Wrong of me… It was the track The Wedding from the score Deep Impact. Have a listen to the first 20 seconds. That piano piece is heard throughout the Bicentennial Man score and he actually did Deep Impact before (1998) he did Bicentennial Man (1999). But i knew i recognized it… 😉

That is the one thing about the ISO stuff, they are the music exactly as heard in the film. For those who want the film edit, that is ggod news. But, if the track fades out early etc in the movie, it will do so on the ISO too. Especially with the source music cues, as was the case here.

I beg to differ. I almost never leave a track untouched, but try to fix the volume inconsistencies you mentioned earlier (and of course noise reduction). However if a track should fade as you also mention… that is something i don’t try to correct. Should there be composer’s commentaries that mix with the music, i try to use the original release to repair that in order to get the tracks as close to what’s really heard in the film.

In short: I put a LOT of work into my rips of isolated scores. Not just – RIP IT, SPLIT IT, LEAVE IT 😉

Time for the 4th installment in the Planet of the Apes series – Conquest. An isolated BluRay score by Tom Scott. Can’t put any links here because of the other almighty record company. What i can do is compare what they released with what was on the isolated score. Theirs has a running time of 38:40 and the isolated has 45:20. Some of the tracks from the official release has combined some of the tracks from the isolated to longer ones and one or two are shorter in the official release. What i can’t understand is why the last two tracks in the isolated aren’t in the official release at all. Perhaps someone else can shed some light on that?

Well If you listen to the main titles on the Danny Elfman & Tim Burton 25th anniversary set, there is a slight but noticeable difference. There is a short clip of another instrument right before the main theme starts that i didnt hear on the DVD Track.

Just a little piece today… This is the poem that Tim Burton wrote and later inspired him to make the movie The Nightmare Before Christmas. It’s not an isolated score as such, but still ripped from the DVD. The poem is narrated by the great Christopher Lee and the music by Danny Elfman and i thought it’s good enough to share 🙂 Enjoy!

I also have this DVD. I wouldnt have thought to rip this though… I do like Christopher Lees Narration. Fits perfectly with the story!

I wish Disney would release a music only track for Nightmare… They do have a isolated music only track on the Meet The Robinsons Blu-Ray, so its possible.

There are more differences (as you already have noticed, i presume). All the song parts on the official release are instrumental parts on the isolated score (that’s what i’m working on right now). I’m trying to mix the official release with what is on the isolated, but they are different so it will take some time to mix. Almost done though 🙂 perhaps tomorrow.

The last 2 tracks aren’t from the isolated score but from the original version of the film with mono sound, hence the lower quality of the sound. I thought i’d incorporate them into this anyway. The original version of the film was screened before a test audience that didn’t like the somewhat more "un-happy" ending and so the bosses got cold feet and changed that to a more suitable Hollywood style ending.

There’s no official score from Michael Kamen’s Frequency. The score that we know from years is from the promotional score and an isolated score

I’m following every single event of your isolated score project, and I’m in awe. This is really
cool, and kudos to you for all the hard work! This is a project to stay.

But instead of focusing on scores we already have, may I suggest a soundtrack title by a
popular film composer that cries for an expanded treatment since its commercial release
in 1983?

I’m thinking about

BRAINSTORM by James Horner (1983)

The CD is just 30 minutes long, while there are still some 20 minutes of commercially
unreleased music in the film. Also, the whole album was a re-recording – a fantastic
one, but it’s sometimes quite different to the score as heard in the picture. The End
Title version as heard in the picture by the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra is far
superior to the album version recorded with the LSO.

This is one of my all time favorites. Please take "Brainstorm" into consideration. This
score is the ideal candidate for your isolated score project.

What’s funny, the first Blu Ray hits stores in just a week:

But I’m not sure if it comes with an isolated track or not. There was also a laserdic,

You can’t have isolated music only for a portion of the score, at least I don’t think so. It really has to be a separate element for the whole thing, made as such by the producers of the disc.

I just re-watched the film, for the first time in many years, compairing OST and the music
in the film, making notes. I could give you a complete breakdown, but it’s tricky.

To keep it simple and short: There’s almost no music in the first 40 minutes of the movie,
just some subtle scoring (short cues and no real difference to the OST). The second third
features the well-known music from the OST, without any recognizable differences. It’s
the last 33 minutes of the movie, however, were things get interesting. There’s a whole
unreleased, 4 1/2 minute cue were Horner introduces his computer action music and it is
performed in a different, unique way not featured on the OST. Some short, striking choir
bits for the terror tapes involved, and interesting original cues for the Final Playback
montages (slightly different compared to the OST). Same goes for the End Title. Most
sequences are littered with dialogue/sound, some are pretty clean.

An isolated score would be terriffic, but something tells me that we won’t get one with
the upcoming Blu Ray. Perhaps we have more luck with one of the two laser discs that
exist, one made in 1991, and the other one made in 1998? Of course, I don’t have ’em.

In the meantime, I’m trying to extract what I can.

Edit: I would say that if i do this surround rip in FLAC and upload it, we’re talking about 1,5 GBs. And unless you have a surround system with 5.1 speakers, it would be a total waste of time downloading that instead of the stereo version.

Well, here it is, finally. The isolated BluRay score for X-Men First Class. What bugged me about this isolated score was that it doesn’t start until 2 minutes 7 seconds into the film, when clearly there is music starting already at 48 seconds. I played the entire film listening only to the isolated score just to check if it was out of phase or something, but nope… For some reason they didn’t include that first piece of music. I had to rip the original audio track and use the front channels in order to get it and that’s why track 2 – Poland, 1944 has some SFX. Usually i don’t like that, but for the sake of completion on this one i chose to include it. However, i also included the orginal (from the isolated track) 2 – Poland, 1944 as an alternate track 44. Those of you that absolutely can’t stand SFX, just remove track 2 and replace it with track 44.

I guess the reason why the ‘Poland’ track is not part of the isolated music is that the music is by Michael Kamen from the first movie, and not by Henry Jackman.
The Iso scores contain only ‘original’ music, right ?

That was my guess as well, some licensing issue. If that is the case, could you or someone else point me to the correct track? I would LOVE to use that instead of the one i lifted with SFX in it and make this isolated better.

Edit: Actually, the isolated score should contain the music only – period. But as i said, licensing issues…

It is simply an edit of the first track of the "X-Men" album called "Death Camp".

Yes… been sitting here comparing myself. And you can clearly hear it’s an edit, which would explain the absence of it on the isolated track. Too bad that they didn’t use it straight off though 😉 would have made it much easier for me. Well, then i guess i will leave my upload as it is because using anything from the first film would mean not using what is available in this film.

Not much difference i guess. I have included that what he/she calls "the first cue in the film. Which is actually Kamens music from the beginning of the first X-Men." And that has also been established here. So if you can stand some sfx (that i explained about in my post), you will get some additional music.

Otherwise there shouldn’t be much difference other than i have split the music differently. Instead of a 10 minute track you get 3 tracks that flow into each other seamlessly. Instead of one 20 minute track you get 5 tracks that flow seamlessly into each other.

Edit: And i don’t call it a "Complete score". I call it for what it is – an isolated score from the BluRay release

First of all, read my first post in this thread on what an isolated score is. There are a lot of misunderstandings as to that. I don’t isolate a score, i rip isolated scores. There’s a difference 🙂 2nd, if you have understood what an isolated score is, then you would have to find out if Maniac Cop 3 has an isolated score by checking the web. I have browsed through the links i have and can find no info on an isolated score on that DVD so i guess you’re out of luck. 3rd, i would have to have the DVD, which i don’t, but perhaps then i could tell you if it was possible to do a rip of either the front or rear channels to try to get the music that way. Unfortunately again, the best available sound for this one (which i can find info on) is stereo, which would make it all but impossible to do a decent sounding rip of it. It’s always a bit easier if the release has surround sound.

I’m not sure what you mean here. Do you have one rip of Glory isolated and think the sound is bad in that one, or do you have MY rip and think the sound is bad in that one?

Again, do you mean MY rip? I always appreciate feedback on my rips but i would need a little more to go on than "the sound is bad". What is bad about it? Is there too much noise? Hiss? What? I could try to make an improved rip of this one, but it would help to know what i should improve. And as Music_Lord says, it might be that the original isolated music track on the DVD just isn’t good enough. Sometimes the level of sound on these tracks are so low that when you raise them to be able to hear better, that produces a LOT of background noise and removing that without affecting the overall sound quality is tricky.

But give me some more precise feedback on my rip (if that’s the one you mean) and i’ll see what i can do. But you have to remember, this is not factory produced CDs where i have access to excellent sources and excellent equipment to work with. I’m just a happy amateur who happens to love doing this.

I just listened to it and i have to say i can’t find a lot of distortion and background noise. And as i said, sometimes you have to raise the volume level to the extent that it produces background noise. The question then is – Should i leave it or should i try to remove it, and if so, how much? I’m not saying this is the case with this one, to my old ears it sounds ok.

Give me irrefutable proof that these are the best programs and i’ll learn how to and then start using them 🙂 but i’m not changing just beacuse someone thinks they’re better. And they way you put it, if that will be the case it sounds like you want to steer clear of my rips.

They focus on providing information on bit-for-bit audio copies.

Still doesn’t answer what you currently use.
DVD Audio Extractor is not a program mentioned anywhere on that development site.
Neither is some other low-end program similar in nature to DVD Audio Extractor.

But for you to not answer my question as to what you are using, the way you put it, I have complete lack of faith in the competence of your will to understand technology.

Someone is taking things way to serious. Calidoran is doing everyone here a service by ripping and editing these isolated score and here you come along and call him and his efforts worthless for not using the exact tools you want him to use. If you’re not a troll you’re doing your best to emulate one. Lighten up.

I will upload it sometime in the future, can’t say when though. It’s not something i have ready for upload right away. Have to rip it and edit it first. But it will come 🙂

The quality of these aren’t great to start with, remember they are from 1959 and onward. I’ve tried cleaning them up as best i could from noise and also some speech and SFX. Even though this is supposed to be an isolated score, they are there although very faint, but you could still hear them on occassion. Enjoy nevertheless 🙂

Important fact : for those who think they already have some of the scores because they were already released in the 80s on LP by you-know-who – and then in the 90s on CD – they must be aware that those LPs and CDs consisted of rerecordings done after the season was over. The musicians’ rules at the time allowed previously recorded music to be included as music stock library only for the season for which it was first intended. To be used in following seasons, the music had to be recorded once more and that’s the re-recording stuff you actually can hear on the LPs and CDs. This is the reason why no Season Five scores appeared on the TZ CDs : Season Five was the last season and so there were no need to re-record anything for Season Six.

Well, i did some checking… and i can’t find any info on The Town having an isolated score. Which leads me to believe you don’t know what an isolated score is. In any case, this is not something i can help you with.

I was wondering if anyone has the new release of Bye Bye Birdie – I was surprised to see it has an isolated score and would love to hear it! It also reminded me of my search for the background scoring for another musical film – Thoroughly Modern Millie – Elmer Bernstein’s only best score oscar winner! I hope someday that gets an isolated score release as well.

I will never order another Twilight Time release FROM SA, never before have i had suck a horrible customer service experience. I pre ordered As Good As It Gets at their outrageous 29.99 price plus shipping for what is essentially a bare bones bluraywith the isolated score being the only reason why i went ahead and ordered at that outrageous price.

when my order arrives the bluray case feels light, but its still sealed so i open it and there is no disc. i contacted them and was given a run around, andthen told to email another person, who essentailly sent me back a go F off email response. and refused to replace my disc. needless to say I contacted paypal ,as i used my paypal debitcard to order, and asked what my options where for a company that sent me out a product that was missing the item from the case, and refused to replace it. they said for me to file a claim and escolate it, I did and paypal sided with me and refunded my money, and i sent back the empty case with a nice little letter telling them what they can go and do with that case. 🙂

Looking for the E.T. LIVE Isolated score from the 2002 special edition DVD. This Isolated score is the recording of John Williams conducting the score live in the theatre durring the 20th anniversary world premiere in Los Angeles. complete with Applause and cheering.
would love to have that as it doesnt appear its making the transition over to the bluray set(just the featurete about it is), and I sold my DVD a while back.

Final Edit: Just listened to it. It’s in surround and by removing the center channel, i can get rid of the speech. However, both the front and rear channels are filled with SFX and sometimes the speech bleeds over even if it’s faint. I’m not up for putting more work into this, sorry.

That’s too bad with how Screen Archives handled your order you speak of. And I do not plan to pay the unacceptable high prices for the Twilight Time Blu-rays. I would have liked to get Mysterious Island and Journey To The Center Of The Earth, (now sold out), but I am hoping that the studios that released the films will sometime in the future put out these titles on BD with a more reasonable price. There is no reason that they could not sell abundant quantities of either title, precluding any need for a limited unit release.

Sorry for the rant… it’s just that considering the amount of time i put into these isolated score, it would be nice to get either appreciation in the thread itself (comments, "Likes" or some "Boost" to my reputation) or at least some constructive criticism… I have quite a few more isolated scores that i could share, among them the rest of season 1 of Twilight Zone plus that i just ordered season 2 as well from Amazon. I COULD make an effort to rip all seasons of Red Dwarf and season 1 of Space 1999, but i’m not so sure anymore…

But now, to all those of you that DO post a reply and show your appreciation: THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!! You know who you are and it’s for all of you that i keep posting here.

This is my favorite score of all time. I can’t wait to hear your rip as all but one I have come across have speed issues resulting from the PAL conversion.

Since it’s a region 2 DVD, there is always the speed issue. But it’s not that hard to correct. Can’t promise anything, but i’ll at least start working on it during this week.

eac3to can re-encode audio to different framerates. It’s switches for -speedup and -slowdown can adjust to the different framerates.
I have not had to use that function too much to throw in personal experience.
Most of the material I work with is NTSC standards.
But the very few times (less than 3) where I had to use the conversion, it did come out perfectly without errors.

Yeah, my apologies about this. I am still waiting on my partners in crime who have been really busy over the summer with work, family and other issues. I didn’t expect there to be such a long wait.
This is such a big project that I want things done right so that it leaves no room for further update(s). The album is ready, the artwork is not. My friends are great artists and I know they’ll come up with something good. The next decent window of release would be Halloween which is the first anniversary of my original album release … I just hope to have good news for you guys soon

I agree with moviemusicsi. I would be perfectly happy with just the isolated music for Fright Night. So yeah, officially requesting the isolated score for Fright Night if you’re able to share it. Thanks.

Now your Aliens film version is a real masterpiece I really enjoy having that. It was a dream of mine to listen to the score track by track as it was used in the movie. I finally got a bluray rip (mp3) someone posted few weeks before yours and yours sounds much better than that one. Sound was so tiny and thin I didn’t even have desire to listen to it again (much). Yours really blew me away compared to that one; it’s what I say is the real deal; best we’re gonna get it seems. The film version of the escape in the vents is a must hear track for me; my favorite new piece along with drop ship. There was yet another Aliens rip posted few weeks after yours with some tracks I think ripped from the bluray but yours still sounded far better to me; sharper, louder, and fuller. Anyone intrested in movie version of Aliens should ask Calidoran for it; it’s a rarity.

I don’t make isolated scores, i rip isolated scores. I will quote myself from the first post in this thread where i explain exactly what an isolated score is:

To clarify for those wondering:

An isolated score is simply the music as a separate audio track on the DVD/BluRay. Sometimes there is only music, sometimes it has the composer’s commentary as well and if you’re lucky, those commentaries do not mix with the music. There might also be significant drops in music volume due to composer’s commentaries and those isolated scores takes a lot more work before they’re done.
Rips of the front or rear or any channels with sfx and/or speech are NOT isolated scores but "simply" something where someone has tried isolating the music from the speech and SFX.
This thread will not have any such rips. It will only be about isolated scores.

So, basically, what i’m saying is that an isolated score is a feature on some DVDs/BluRays. You can enter the menus and chose to watch the entire film with nothing but music (or sometimes with composer’s commentaries) because there is a separate audio track for that. Some people try their best at ripping either the front or the rear channels of a DVD/BluRay and then removing the speech and sfx as much as possible. This is NOT an isolated score. Check out that first post for links to sites where you can check what films have isolated scores. As far as i can see, Prince Caspian doesn’t have an isolated score. I would have loved to rip it if it had an isolated and that goes for the entire series 🙂

1. The way you said it made it sound as if you didn’t know what an isolated score is. Check out the definition in the first post in this thread.
2. I searched for any release of the film and the only one i could find was a region 1 DVD release. Which is not easily available where i live.
3. As far as i could see, that region 1 DVD didn’t have an isolated score. The only other way would be to rip either the front or the rear channels of the DVD and that’s assuming it has surround sound. If it’s only stereo, it’s all but impossible to make an acceptable rip of it, meaning without speech and sfx.

I hope that explains it further. And btw, you should try to chose your words a little more carefully 😉 that is if you don’t want to sound like what you said you feel like now… You came barging in, all new to the thread, and made a request (more like a demand) and expected it to be ready in a week. Perhaps you could have started by asking if anyone had it? And then checked the first post where all the main info is. And perhaps even my personal info where i list all the isolated scores i have besides the ones that are already uploaded.

In any way, sorry i can’t help you with this one.

Are you sure you have the isolated score? It says it’s not to be released until tomorrow. I see you have a 10 track version in your Maurice Jarre folder, but that’s the regular CD release and i can’t find any other folder…

Oh, he had it shared in Soulseek. One BIG wav-file. More than 1 GB in size. I started downloading it but didn’t have time to get more than 380 MB of it before he disconnected and left. And when he was back, he had removed it from his shares.

To release a bluray and have the gall to call that an "isolated score"! 🙁 It’s everything BUT isolated! I can have it converted to flac and uploaded for those of you interested to hear for yourself. Should this in fact be the case, that they call this one isolated, i will definitely NOT buy anything from Twilight Time with the risk of being ripped off like that… POTENTIAL BUYERS BEWARE

Warmbutter DVD’s are hard to come by. Usually a very exclusive clientelle only and then very hard to find pirates.
Warmbutter scores have been talked about a bit in the past few years but with very little access or releases.
No one’s really been able to get their hands on a Warmbutter release. I think only a couple expanded scores made it.

With the permission of Calidoran, here is a link for the isolated score of As Good As It Gets by Hans Zimmer. I have added the Art Garfunkel song that plays during the end credits between the two cues that play during the credits because it sounded weird to me without it, but feel free to remove this song if all you want is the orchestral score. There was one cue (track 36) that was on the isolated score but I could not hear playing in the movie…not sure what the deal is with that. I’m still considering buying As Good As It Gets from them.

I saw a request for Big Trouble In Little China isolated score from the BD.
I have that BD and can rip the audio in 5.1.
I can do a FLAC 5.1 release.
I won’t do a stereo downmix or even an MP3 downmix as it’s literally the same as the LaLaLand release when it’s in stereo.
The only difference is that the LLL release has an extra track for sound effects: hits, stingers, etc.

I just got a 2TB external HDD, so now I have the room to do more audio work.
I can rip the movie and then break it down into segments and do the work necessary.
I’ll try to get it as close as possible to the LLL tracks.
It should take me about a month.

I also have a few requests that someone please rip the 5.1 AC3 of The Corruptor from the Region 1 DVD, it contains a commentary by the composer, Carter Burwell as the isolated score.

I’m not looking for a custom soundtrack. I’m looking for the complete AC3 from beginning to end.

The DVD I have has suffered irrepable damage.

Also if anyone can provide a complete rip of Lalo Schifrin’s "Rush Hour" from the Region 1 DVD, that would be great as well.

The region 1 DVD claims that it has an isolated score, but it’s still riddled with Elfman’s commentaries, speech and sfx…

I don’t get why they do that.

Rush Hour 1 is like that. When there’s no music or commentary, they’ll play the audio from the film.

Although, for some isolated scores, I get why there’s SFX in the score.
Someone on one of the commentaries said that sometimes a composer will do some of the SFX instead of the audio engineers. This is to ensure that a proper balance is maintained between the sfx, dialog and score.
I believe it was Lalo Schifrin that said that on the Rush Hour 1 isolated score/commentary.

Tomorrow Never Dies isolated score has a few sfx, but not too much. Only about 2-3 cues.

I should also mention that i have done absolutely nothing to this one, because i just don’t have the energy for it right now. This one is "as is", which means the wav-file i downloaded is the "isolated" score from the ENTIRE film, from beginning to end, no cuts, no splits, just a wav-file app. 1 hour and 48 minutes long. I might do something about it in the future, but i make no promises.

I suppose, since I’ve been searching for this for over 10 years the answer will be ‘no’… Anyway, it still would help me further just to know how difficult this would be.

As far as i can see there is no isolated music on that release. The only audio is "English Dolby Digital 2.0 mono, French Dolby Digital 2.0 mono, Italian Dolby Digital 2.0 mono and Spanish Dolby Digital 2.0 mono. Which means that trying to isolate music from that will be very difficult. And as i said, no isolated music as a separate audio track. Sorry…

I have not seen any blogs cover isolated scores.
Just the retails and some bootlegs.

It would make for a nice development.
It’s hard to find information on isolated scores, let alone if they exist or not.

I would be all for a blog.
Reviews, technical specs, info if there’s SFX in it or a commentary by the composer. And also DVD/BD region.

Blu Ray for Night of the Living Dead (1990) (Twilight Time)

I had no idea about this.
I will try look for a BD Remux with the isolated score.
If I find one, I can demux the isolated score and work on tracks.

But it will take time. About a month’s work if I find one.

I’m currently working on doing Big Trouble In Little China from my BD.

Update on John Carpenter’s "Big Trouble In Little China" isolated score (in 48kHz/24 bit depth/5.1 surround sound).

The audio is extracted (bit-perfect, using eac3to and ArcSoft version 1.1.0.0 to extract the DTSHD-MA).
Have the audio broken down into smaller tracks rather than a single track, closely resembling album tracks.
Just need to go in and break them into actual tracks and insert silence where needed.
Some of the tracks in their current state only have less than a second of silence in between cues, so that might cause some issues with devices with poor buffering settings.
After that converting to FLAC.

Also considering doing a downmix, since the Sampling Rate is higher than the LaLaLand CD (48kHz VS. 44.1kHz) and also the bit depth is significantly higher than the LLL CD (16 bit VS. 24 bit).
The downmix FLACs in 48/24 should greatly improve the listening experience for those technically equipped, or who wish to do any editing of their own.

I’m afraid some will be disappointed in this then… not sure what i will do: Post it with or without source music. If i decide to go with score music only, it will be short – about 28 minutes. I think that is what i will upload and then if there’s demand for it, i guess i could upload a version WITH source music. Anyway, uploading today or tomorrow.

Edit: I found and downloaded the OWM version. Not sure what the source is there. Some tracks have people cheering so i assume it’s the DVD, but then there are tracks that are definitely not in the isolated score. I might try ripping the films regular audio track (with speech and SFX) and see if i can get something from there. But the listing above is the isolated score audio track, straight from the BluRay and has no SFX or speech whatsoever…

… and here we have it: The isolated score for Chariots of Fire. I don’t know if i have heard any scores that are quite as uplifting as this one. The main theme makes you want to go out and run. Rightaway. Abraham’s theme (here present in the tracks Lost and of course Abraham’s Theme) is quite romantic and very beautiful. If it fits the persona of Abrahams i leave it up to you to decide. The theme for Eric Liddell is almost as heroic as the main theme and we first catch a glimpse of it in the track 200 yards. It comes to full in tracks 16 and 17: Eric’s Theme and Glory.

What to say more about this isolated? It’s short (at 28 minutes) so if you were expecting more, get the excellent official release. Also i would say the official release is more orchestral. This is (i think) only synth driven. Not that it’s a bad thing. If you watch the film, you will not notice it as much as if you only listen to this isolated.

Sit down and listen to this one. It will only steal 30 minutes of your life. Or rather, sit down and watch the film if you can spare another 1??? hour. The music is inspirational, but get the film to accompany it and you have something that’s almost a classic.

I think they put the recording sessions in as the isolated score because what’s in the isolated is not quite what’s in the film (as you can hear in the End Credits). Some tracks in the isolated are definitely not played in the film, if you compare. I also found this in MP3 somewhere on the net, not sure where but it didn’t have any track titles (i made those up), only slate numbers which i included. Anyway, the score and film as such has its merits 🙂 not all together good, but not all together bad either. I would have liked to hear what Morris could have achieved if he would have tried to develop the viking theme in Coming Attractions.

Wise decision. Twilight Time’s releases can be a bit… (what’s the word?). What they released when it came to Enemy Mine by Jarre would not qualify as an isolated score in my book, but that’s what they chose to call it. I can only say that if i had ordered something like that, expecting an isolated score and then got what i got… let me put it in this Gollum-ish way (since it’s that time of year): "Twilight Time is not my friend"

Granted, at least I know I can always buy those on ebay, but I am in absolutely no hurry to pay that much money right now. Maybe later, but not now.

Yes.

It’s a 1:1 copy of the movie as it is on the Bluray disc.
The movie is copied to MKV or other format without any transcoding. The same for any audio streams selected.
Typical remux size is anywhere from 20GB to 55GB, depending on well the transfer is.
Some movies I’ve seen are only 16GB when remuxed (Immortals was).
The resolution is full 1080p (1920×1080 with black bars) and full bit rates (20-35mbps).
The audio is mostly lossless: DTS-HD Master Audio/Dolby TrueHD/PCM
Some movies, however, don’t offer a lossless audio track will offer lossy DTS audio (DTS-HR…High Res…which is still lossy)(DTS-ES).
Or offer the lossy AC3 core audio (AC3@640kbps).
Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior is in AC3@640kbps, the one I have anyway. I don’t know if there’s another pressing out there or not with lossless audio, but I’m still happy with what I got.

Most 1080p rips you’ll find online are down-converted versions.
Resolution: 1920xVariableHeight (with cropped black bars)
Bit rates: 8-14mbps
audio: lossy DTS core/lossy AC3 core

They’re okay if you’re just going to watch a movie.
But if you have the high end hardware to fully utilize the lossless audio or you want to do some editing, it’s best to get the lossless audio and never ever ever work with the lossy audio.

Big Trouble In Little China is proving difficult.
There’s little to no breaks of silence in between music cues.

Looks like breaking it down into splits didn’t work.
I added split points where it was audibly quiet on my speakers.
Which is completely different when viewed in Adobe Audition.

I will have to re-rip this into a w64 extension and view the whole movie as a single file and work from there.
Kind of sucks.

The "tracks" I had for 6 and 7 on the Bluray turned out to be Track 6 (combined) on the album.
Reripping today and pin pointing more accurate "album tracks" from the single wave file.

I might as well view the LaLaLand album in Adobe Audition to get a better idea of what I’m looking for rather than time cues.

I have practiced on some music tracks with changing volumes in my time, where I select specific areas with my cursor and normalise different percentages until I am satisfied with the level, and repeat until the whole track is done. Granted it is hard work and time consuming, but if the volume changes aren’t too gradual, then it works.

Sorry dude but I don’t do things by halves, only wholes. It’s my way of creating a definitive collection, eliminating anymore multiple albums claiming to have missing tracks.

The amount of work needed will be huge with like 128 tracks and more than 258 minutes of music, so please be patient.
Silva Screen will release portions of the score this year.

But only the US-Version has an isolated score, not the European-Set…hope you know 😉

I do, that’s why I ‘ordered’ the US set instead of buying it in my country 😉

Edit: Ok, what hypersleep scene are you refering to? The one in the beginning or the one at the end? And are you refering to the theatrical version of the music or the one that Goldsmith originally composed?

Edit2: Ok, i am assuming you mean the hypersleep sequence at the end before the end credits… The end credits themselves (in the original version) use music from ‘Symphony No. 2 (‘Romantic’) by Howard Hanson. And as it says at IMDB – "Incidental music from ‘Symphony No. 2 (‘Romantic’)" is used in the film so i think that’s what’s playing when Ripley is doing her monologue and signing off thing. What i can say is that it’s not present in any of the isolated tracks.

Checked my DVD… i listened to it with the regular sfx/speech audio track and there was no music except Goldsmiths. I listened to it with both isolated score audio tracks and no music except Goldsmiths. Sorry…

Yellow Submarine is something i don’t have yet. Can’t promise i will get it either. I do have the Big Blue, but not a version with isolated score. So, sorry again 🙂

Are there any isolated scores for Miklos Rozsa scored movie? I read somewhere there is an isolated score for Double Indemnity which would be a great score to hear.

The only isolated score i own by Rozsa is Ben-Hur and that is a gargantuan project that i haven’t started yet… Otherwise i have some useful links in the first post in my thread that you could check for further info.

I will try to upload one every now and then. The good news is that i have bought all 5 seasons on bluray and so have access to all available isolated scores there. The "bad" news is that there are LOTS of them so i could go on uploading one every now and then for a looong time.

Perhaps this is another case of thinking an isolated score is the same as a rip of the rear (or front) channels and trying to isolate the music… which it’s not.

Audio commentary – Music commentary: composer John Debney (on selected scenes)

… says nothing about him commenting on an isolated score. And there is a 2 DVD version:

So basically, track 1 is new, track 2 is different and the songs are missing. If you want the best quality (true lossless), get the CD. I can upload my flac rip of the isolated score (though that will not be true lossless) if people really want it. But it will be a "send me a request through PM" since Varese did the official release. Any requests for the links here will be very much ignored.

The Bluray I have in mind hits the streets on Feb 12, 2013. I’m sure someone will do a rip then. The Bond Bluray box set doesnt seem to have an isolated score track – at least not in my country.

You could use DVD Decrypter to rip the AC3 audio track from the DVD and then EAC3TO to convert the AC3 to preferred number of channels and format. Try it, it’s both fun and interesting 😉 Otherwise i guess i could upload my rip of it (flac from the lossy source). Another alternative is to get the Numenorean CD release of it which is essentially the same.

I have Tomorrow Never Dies on Blu-ray. Bought it back when it came out (it was a store-specific exclusive)

The isolated score track on it is only one incremental step up from the DVD release in terms of quality:

The DVD was Dolby Digital 2.0 at 192kbps.

The Blu-ray is Dolby Digital 2.0 at 224kbps.

224kbps is the next level up before the maximum bitrate for 2.0, which is 384kbps.

So it’s not (in my opinion) worth the minor difference in bitrate to rip it from the Blu-ray disc.

Future Shop is basically Canada’s version of Best Buy, though we also have Best Buy. Best Buy got a few of the other Bond Blu-rays as well. They were spread around as store specific titles in places like that and Walmart.

I don’t have Passion of the Christ… sorry if you got that impression of what i said. And full HQ MP3? That in itself is a contradiction. The DVD source of this is lossy from the start and to rip it to MP3 would degrade the quality even further. In short: There is no such thing as full HQ MP3 😉 If i had the BluRay (which i don’t), i could rip the End Credits in full HQ, but in order to keep it full HQ i would have to convert it to flac or any other lossless format…

Also, wanted to check how big interest there would be in surround versions of my isolated rips? Of course, all does not come with surround sound, but those that do… The problem here is that unless you have a surround setup, you will not have any use for them. And also – they are BIG. Working on X-Men First Class right now, mostly for my own pleasure and i have reached half way. The combined file size of it is 444 MBs for 46 minutes and 12 seconds in FLAC. Almost 10 MBs/minut of music which is about the same size if you rip an ordinary stereo CD to uncompressed wav-files (if you want something to compare with).

Let me put it this way… if you had bothered reading this thread of mine – you would have found them. It’s been a while since i posted them but they do still work…
