Hello all

This is my first post. I found this forum by accident, whilst I was looking for Joe Hisaishi soundtrack, Princess Mononoke/Mononoke Hime. It was really different compared to other soundtracks, I have.

I was wondering if anyone has anybody knows anybody knows any other soundtracks like Mononoke Hime. I have tried Joe Hisaishi's Porco Rosso, but it just doesn't conjure up the same feelings.

For example track 33 - The Legend of Ashitaka Theme. It is so sweeping and powerfull, you are not human if you don't have tears of joy streaming down you face.

I'm going to check out spirited away. If there are any other anime composers who do powerfull music, I should check out then please let me know, I'd love to get into anime soundtracks. So far I only have hollywood ost composers. I pretty much have eveything by Thomas Newman and Hans Zimmer.

Thanks for any recommendations you guys may have.

Welcome to the forum!

(most of the threads in the download sub-forum that I'm linking to have the majority of their download links in the first post of the thread, but you will probably want to browse through the various pages of the threads, as there will most likely be a lot of stuff posted throughout the thread. It's also always a good idea to thank for uploads and remove images when you quote others' posts)

I would check out the Hisaishi Rapidshare (Thread 52217) thread or the Hisaishi Lossless (Thread 70244) thread. He's got lots of albums you probably haven't heard. I really like the Howl's Moving Castle soundtrack and image album. Spirited away is one of his best.

Definitely check out Yoko Kanno. There is a collection thread of her stuff here: ( I would start with Vision of Escaflowne, Wolf's Rain, Please Save My Earth, and Brain Powered)

Thread 44707

You might have to wade through some J-pop you may not like, but she has some great compositions. I would check out these Yoko kanno orchestral selections albums someone made in the downloads forum:

Thread 66395

Masamichi Amano and Kousuke Yamashita are great as well.

I'm still very new to the Anime music world, but this is what I like so far.

Also, I think you will enjoy the Big Orchestral Action Thread (Thread 57893) , the Film Score/VGM Hunt Thread (Thread 40522) , possibly the Lossless anime music (Thread 66456) thread.

Those last three alone have more music than you could listen to in a solid year, and lots of it is great. Welcome once again, and happy listening!

Many thanks for your help Jakob, especially the Yoko Kanno recommendations.

So far I'm only collecting music, but I am so tempted to see the films as well. It just a case of having free time.

Who would have thought, hearing a piece of Hisaishi's music on youtube would lead me down this road?

You're welcome. All of those threads contain only music. It must have been the "Film score/VGM hunt thread" that confused you. That one is film soundtracks and video game music (vgm) that people are looking for.
