I dunno how many Harry Potter buffs go here, but a question mainly for them.

So… for those of you that read HP (at least book 4 GoF), remember the "veela" beings, which are not considered human, but resemble beautiful women (and were unfortunately ignored from the film)?

And considering vieras in this game are practically a similar idea, minus the fact that they look like playboy bunnies, and that R and L are interchangeable in Japanese, so as far as any of you know does that word actually represent something? Or is it just a coincidence?

The only thing I can think of is venus… lol

If you want to talk about references regarding races, I think Star Wars is really the way to go again as far as this game goes. I mean, come on, an evil Empire that subjugates races that aren’t human?

To be honest, I think the only ressemblance it shares with Star Wars is that both have an Empire in it.

The comparison is way overdone IMO.

Besides, the Archadian Empire isn’t exactly ‘evil’ any more than Rozzaria, Dalmasca, or Bhujerba are. Sure, Vayne and Cid are pretty ambitious, but hardly rotten to the core. That’s one thing I liked about FFXII. It deviated somewhat from simply being ‘good’ against ‘evil’, as is used in so many other RPGs.

Yeah, that’s true that it isn’t really "evil" as such.

It happens a lot. Just like in Digimon S.1, they had an old character named Gennai who, in his younger days, used to swing a lightsaber and sport a little plat-ponytail… see the Gennai-Jedi connection? The Japanese devs sometimes take things from outside of their country because, well, most of Japan’s people have probably never seen those kind of things and wouldn’t know better

Then again, this is Star Wars I’m talking about
