Also known as "Covert Ops: Nuclear Dawn" in North America, Chase the Express was a game released in 2000 for Playstation. Just looking at the album cover, it’s not hard to imagine what kind of game is Chase the Express, action-driven with hints of stealth and some puzzle moments to diversify the gameplay. The plot is your typical run of the mill hero saves the day from a terrorist attack, although the story and action is developed inside a train, so the atmosphere is pretty tense throughout the game.

Well, now the music, what first caught my attention about this soundtrack was the composer, Toshiyuki Watanabe. I already knew the great skills at writing orchestral music of Toshiyuki Watanabe, so when I purchased this album, it wasn’t a risky purchase at all. The soundtrack revolves around the main theme, almost every track contains fragments of said theme, in some places in dramatic sequences or in frenetic cues and even in sorrowful pieces. I think Toshiyuki Watanabe is very talented at writing themes and this is no exception, in this score he shows all the versatility of his main theme.

Also, I’m not goint to lie, this album is far from being perfect, tracks from 12 to 18 are mostly additional recordings with little interest as standalone material. To some, perhaps, can rub the wrong way the fact that some tracks incorporate SFX’s, distorted guitars, or electronic beats into the music. What can I say? You can’t please everyone.

You know, when I was checking my folders to see if I had the FRONT MISSION EVOLVED soundtrack to include in my collection thread, I came across this particular one, and I’m actually glad I did because I partially ignored your post, and if it weren’t for me discovering that I had this in terrible, terrible quality, the "partially" would have had turned into "completely", so I’m thankful fate worked its magic on me. Of course, I’m thankful to you, too for the share…especially the FLAC. 🙂
