Massugu Ni Ikou ~ Michiru Oshima (lossless/flac)

Here is Oshima’s music to a series of animated family films about a talking dog named Mametarou and his adventures with his devoted owner, Ikou, at school, in the park, or out shopping (Mametarou has a special fondness for watermelon). It’s also about Mametarou’s doggy girlfriend (Hanako) and his continued attempts to get rid of Ikou’s boyfriend whom he is jealous of for the attention he gets from Ikou.

"Massugu" began as a graphic novel, then a direct-to-video animated series in 2003. It moved to TV in 2004 for an additional 5 episodes. Michiru Oshima composed the music for all of it and this CD includes 20 tracks from the 2003 video series and 28 from the 2004 TV series. The music is charming and tuneful and features several waltzes for accordion and orchestra. A few tracks are quite short (10 seconds!)

The Japanese seem to have a fondness for stories about cute dogs and "Massugu" is just one of several puppy films with music by Oshima.
