Lost Crime (“Rosuto Kuraimu”): This 2010 film was inspired by a 1968 incident in which a lone robber, posing as a motorcycle cop, stole 300 million yen from a bank. The heist, the biggest in Japanese history, resulted in a massive police investigation, but no convictions. The film is not a documentary, but a tense drama revolving around the relationship of two cops investigating the crime—one a wise veteran and the other a tough young rookie. Oshima’s score toggles between agitated suspense and moody noir. The 4 classical pieces for piano (Chopin) are no doubt a reference to one of the other characters in the film—a talented pianist who works at a ritzy night club.

29 tracks (some short) on Avex CD# RZCD 46594. Released in 2010.
