Is FF IX simply a 3D version of the FF classics, 1-6?

Well even though the battle system is pretty much the same the character,story,and some mechanics of the game are different so I’d vote no

Well, you’ve got black mages and white mages.
And also you’ve got the whole attire systemwhere you have hats, and add-ons etc.

Ya but even though those are the same the characters and story are different making it a different game if it were just a 3d version of 1-6 there wouldnt be Garnet there would be Celes and so on

The whole idea of FFIX was to be a game to show loads of the stuff from the previous games. Which can be obviously seen in loads of places if you know where to look.

FFIX is an independent game with an independent story, set in its own world, with its own rules, its own characters and so on.

Of course there are the usual parallels and in-jokes. But they’ve been there before and shouldn’t be worth mentioning anymore.
FFIX doesn’t have more to do with the older games than any other FF game… Well, certainly not enough to justify calling it a 3D-version of the older games.
It isn’t even 3D.

Final Fantasy IX is a sort of salute to a lot of the older FF games, but it’s not a remake.

If you really only like the more futuristic FFs, like 7 and 8, you might not like it so much- it takes place in a fantasy-ish world.

If you like the older FF games though, you’ll really love it- it uses the traditional 4 person battle system, and has a very classic story.

I personally love it, and recommend picking it up. ^^

Actually, "The Lord of Idiots" implies that you are, in fact, the top, or supreme, idiot. Your original question is if FFIX was a remake of I-VI, which is quite, in my opinion, stupid. For one, FFIX is entirely it’s own game. For two, it would be incredibley odd to remake six games, one of which hasn’t been released here in the US, as a single game.

I also fail to see any similarities between FFIX and FFVI.

It’s funny neither of them will ever win and it’s pointless anyway because it’s only a forum and you can just ignore what others say. But then they don’t get that.
