This is a little bit less of a request and more of an inquiry for those who are fans of the series/game or knowledgeable on ripping. So if this thread needs to be moved, I apologize.

So, I've been playing through Nocturne-- And I've noticed that there are literally a TON of really beautiful dark ambient tracks throughout the game that cannot be found on any version of the soundtrack I've seen. On that note, there are even a lot of cutscene pieces missing from the current uploads of the soundtrack as well. Perhaps the songs were over-looked because of how minimal they are? I would really love to get a hold of them though, and I'm sure some other fans of the game (or fans of Shoji Meguro in general) would as well.

The question here is-- why are there so many missing songs from all of the most up-to-date uploads of the game? Does anyone know where I might be able to get a full copy? I would actually make one myself, since I'm such a huge fan of the game. But I don't even know where to start on that sort of thing as I've never done ripping before, so it's currently out of the question.

Thanks in advance for the information, guys!

As far as I remember those PS2 Megami Tensei games from Atlus were using some encrypted files in their games, and apparently nobody could figure out how to access their contents. I tried searching for tools to open them a while ago, was really interested in extracting the cut-scenes out of the game.

Anyway this is probably the reason why nobody did a complete game rip of Nocturne -- because the files are heavily protected & coded.

Oh, thank you very much for letting me know about that. I actually wasn't expecting anyone to respond at all.
That's a shame though, that those tracks may not ever be reachable. There is some really pretty stuff scattered about.

But again, I appreciate the response. It's something I had been curious about for quite sometime now.

I have a few additional tracks that weren't on any of the soundtracks, if you're interested, i can upload them.

Shinjuku Medical Center (after conception) — bonus from sonymusic.co.jp
Amala Temple (final stage) — bonus from sonymusic.co.jp

What upsets me is that theres MULTIPLE battle themes.
And not just Multiple as in "different songs", but theres actually different versions of each battle song.

Example : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4qJUbpH78Mc&feature=relmfu

Like Large Map and Town Battle, theres like 7 versions of the songs, not to mention theres also the Shinjuku Hospital (After Conception) song which has 2 versions for each Annex of the building, Kabukichou's different realms, the ambience themes, the different Boss Intro themes etc.

It's going to be hard to find a FULL OST...

If you have a PSF2 player (Winamp) you can play these minipsf2 files, they include most (if not all) of the ambience and cutscene music. But theres no battle song variations because I believe the parts of the song change the guitar riffs wavs in-game at random.
http://www.noderunner.net/~llin/psf/packs/SMT3_NMCE_psf2
I use the HIGHLYEXPERIMENTAL plugin for Winamp if you're curious.

The thing is, the tracks in the game are about double speed, so a game rip with CD quality will be pretty impossible.

I had a copy of the same rip you linked and that contains most of the alternative tracks.
The guy who ripped it threw away some tracks (thinking duplicates) before posting the rip so it's possible the many versions of the battle themes were among them, ripped.

But it contains the rest:
Shinjuku Medical Center (After Conception): the 2 themes are essentially the same: one is a stripped-down version of the other.
Kabukicho: normal and mirage.
Many ambience and event music.
3 Kotowari boss intros.

I don't understand, mine's at normal speed.

I asked the guy (http://forums.ffshrine.org/members/hamhock-249117) to do another rip, including all the music there is.

Oh, what I mean by double speed, is the actual tracks in the game.
They're prerecorded at double speed and when played back they're slowed down, hence that strange low-quality.

I mean, listen to the music in the OST and the PSF2 rip, the OST is completely high CDquality.

Alot of tracks are remastered too, like the LARGE MAP theme for example.
On the OST the instuments have a strange vibratey tone to it, while on the PSF2 game rip, they sound rather flat.

So yeah, it's gonna be hard getting all the variations of the Battle themes (impossible in high quality since the tracks and the soundclips/riffs are sloweddown-doublespeed in-game) But all the ambience seems to be there.

In my experience all in-game music is lower quality (to conserve space) than their soundtrack counterparts (which are in most cases remastered).

I believe you, but how can you know for sure/prove that it was recorded at double speed? Because i would've thought they use sampling instead of one big stream, lower sample rate (frequency range) and lower bit depth.

Oh, I tried ripping the tracks myself, but alot of them were SUPERFAST in raw format. When I tried getting the different Town Battle themes, I noticed the guitar riffs (the bits in the song which change with each version) they were all seperate soundfonts/clips. Also I noticed the lack of alot of songs presences as only their "soundfonts" were there instead of the actual song, So I KINDA came to the conclusion alot of the songs like the ambience are actually MIDI instead of prerecorded like the Boss Battle Theme (which was also a superfast clip)

Nothing against Nocturne, it's a great game, but the ingame audio quality on the game is rather... "clouded" if you haven't noticed.
Alot of SMT games on the PS2 have crisp clean quality music which sounds well... identical to their OSTs, which makes Nocturne's stand out a bit (It did come out much MUCH earlier, so it's understandable).

Here's my (unfinished, yet untagged) PSF2 + streams rip (you need Hightly Experimental and vgmstream): Mirrorcreator (http://www.mirrorcreator.com/files/IPHCSEJU/SMT3_PSF2_STR.rar_links) (df (http://depositfiles.com/files/blit3bjbq), fsh (http://freakshare.com/files/5cekwy39/SMT3_PSF2_STR.rar.html), wu (http://www.wupload.es/file/2683010957), ut (http://uploaded.to/file/m707xbnt))

Unlike the other PSF2 set posted above, this includes every single track, classified and no duplicates.
I've included a .txt with the track names/descriptions and game ordering.
Maybe you guys will have some use for this.

Unfortunatelly parts of the battles still don't play (like the riffs) due to how they are stored/played.
(basically the game plays one MIDI track with two different sound fonts mixed at once, but PSF2 generator lacks this feature and the author doesn't seem to care to add it. Theoretically one could hack them together, but it's time consuming).
Also, the reverb is wrong (better than the other set, but still off). I can't quite get it to sound just like the game with any of the settings.

@Dag: Thanks !

No sound effects?

There was a Maniacs Chronicles edition, that featured Raidou? When was that released?

Have you replayed the game just to confirm the tracks?

N0535_MIDI011B_6F Thor -Magatsuhi- is included in the note but the file is missing.
N0626_MIDI0176 Dante Enters (unused) is i think when Dante jumps from the top of the Mantra HQ. You can hear the swooshing sound.
N0429_MIDI002A Encounter ~SMT~ (unused) is a stripped-down version of TALK (i know it's based on Encounter), i don't know if it was used, but i think it's highly possible.
N0601_MIDI015D_01 Ending - Demon (unused) how do you know its title if it's unused ?
N0000_48TEST.ADB Test (unused) i've never heard it but it's great!

I read in some FAQs that there's a Demon Ending and a True Demon Ending (with the Lucifer fight). I did everything to trigger a demon ending except go to the very bottom of the Labyrinth of Amala to trigger the True Demon ending, but in the end, instead of the simple Demon ending i got the Neutral ending. Which leads me to believe there's only one Demon ending. What do you guys think?

I played around with my old saves, debug room and Youtubed some parts to fill all tracks. I'm pretty confident it's all correct.
Maniacs Chronicle was released in Japan with the deluxe edition of the 2nd PS2 Raidou game --since (I presume) they didn't have the rights to rerelease the game with Dante, they swapped him with Raidou.

Sound effects and area noises (WHOOSH and such) I removed (except the "encounter" S.E., it's classic). Anything you miss?

- N0535_MIDI011B_6F: this was just a sound effect (WHOOSH), I deleted it but forgot to update the file. (the game packs S.E.s with music, so there were a lot of those WHOOOSes)
- N0626_MIDI0176 Dante Enters (unused): the game version should be N0630_MIDI017A_58. This one starts slightly differently (it's very minor)
- N0601_MIDI015D_01 Ending - Demon (unused). Just a guess, but since this was packed near the other endings it made most sense. The ending uses a very similar track (I think it was N0521_MIDI010D_01), maybe they messed up and choose the wrong file.

The demon ending is somethere on youtube (it sucks though).

Sounds, like when you use healing items, healing magic, status clearing/inducing items (both in-battle and in-menu), status clearing/inducing magic. I was really looking forward to those.

It wouldn't hurt to just dump all SFX -whatever they are- into a folder and i'll sort them out.

I'll add the demon sounds too if you want (HEE HO!)
