You will get neither here. As is expected of the rest of my gamerips, I will organize each new set of music into a coherent soundtrack, with album names you would expect in a commercial release, as well as my high quality covers.

I respectfully call horseshit on that. Before Brower came along, minus the cinematic work by Jason Hayes, World of Warcraft had very bleh music. It was very ambient in nature, with little in the way of recognizable themes or good melody. I am not saying that it is Mozart now, but it is very easy to see the difference in quality between Pre-The Burning Crusade and The Burning Crusade. The music has only gotten better and better with each expansion pack, and it has reached an all new height with "Rage of the Firelands".
Pleasure. I was tired of just having a mess of files on my music HD. And I was bored between awesome stuff while on vacation, so I decided to keep myself busy. 😀
I am now going to lie down and die now.
Russell got good orchestral and sound engineering skills, no doubt. But given that the music department of blizzard got huge boost in budget since WOW, I feel hiring someone with the talent to create something totally original can help counter balance someone like Russell.
I am now going to lie down and die now.
Hey!!! Don’t die.
But anyway, great that you are updating this thread 🙂
Thanks for the update!
Aww, there’s some problems.
First of all 4.1 has multiple same tracks included, and the order seems wrong too. 4.2 has "Bethek" from 4.1 in it, it shouldn’t.
And finally, none of the tracks have fade out :<

Okay, so I JUST saw this post. Sorry for the two month delay in an answer! :p
Anyways, I just did a quick listen of 4.1 and 4.2. I see no idea where you are coming from saying Bethek is in 4.2 – there is no track that sounds even remotely like it whatsoever. Can you specify which file you are referring to?
As for the multiple same track issue in 4.1, it’s more like the same theme but with differences that plays in different areas. And yeah it’s not chronologically right…but the dungeon wasn’t linear! For the most part, you could do it in whatever order the raid desired, although there was a set suggested route. So, there was no "right" order in this regard.
As for fade out, I don’t ever do fade out, and I don’t think I ever will. I try to preserve the tracks in-game as much as I possibly can. Somewhat contradictory considering I merge several of them into themes, but I try.
But seriously though, Brower does some pretty decent stuff. 4.2 had some good stuff, and 4.1 opens up with a piece I [i]know[i] you will love. If you don’t, I will eat my own shoe.
I just read this, and all this time my mind had omitted has been misspelled. Thus me trying to defend Brower with some of his previous work.
Also, I JUST realized I have been misspelling Brower’s name all this time. Goddamnit!
Would be awesome if we could talk you into doing Warcraft 3: Reign of Choas and The Frozen Throne as one massive rip making it a complete collection. There is no official soundtrack for Warcraft 3: TFT or even the EP’s complied together.
I can send you links on youtube for some of the obscure stuff if you wanted.
What program do you use to get this music?
Does this rogram work for all blizzard games or just World of Warcraft?
When you are looking for the patch music is all of it in a certain folder?
Where do you get your amazing cover arts from for all of the complete rips and patch rips you do?
WoW 4.3.14890 MUSIC: "Darkmoon Faire" (Darkmoon Island and Darkmoon Forest) – YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UXFYB2tN3kE&feature=related)
Like, for instance, a lot of the fun pieces for the Darkmoon Faire appear to not be included. Is this intentional?

Well, it wasn’t in the patch file – each patch is pretty much an archive file, an MPQ. I took ALL of the music files from the patch file. So, that obviously was not in there.
EDIT: I found the Darkmoon Faire music – they were in a different folder in the same .MPQ that I had overlooked somehow. I’ve edited them in, so I am uploading the updated version now.
I got a few questions Doublehex,

Does this rogram work for all blizzard games or just World of Warcraft?

I used MPQEditor to open the .MPQ files that holds not just the music, but pretty much everything in a Blizzard game. Blizzard has been using .MPQ since…well, for most of it’s history. I think it started with the original Diablo. So, yes, MPQEditor can be used for any Blizzard game – even the beta of Diablo III uses it.
When the patch is first released, they are given their own .MPQ. However, once the next big patch rolls around they are merged into the bigger .MPQ’s, like Sound or Art.
As for the covers, I made them myself. I may not be an expert, but I know some ways around Photoshop. The toughest part is finding a good piece of artwork that is not "limited" by the logos. 4.3 was interesting in that there have been NO wallpapers released for it! All of the other patches in WoW’s history were given a wallpaper weeks beforehand. So I had to go with a screenshot.
Patch – Media – World of Warcraft (http://us.battle.net/wow/en/media/wallpapers/patch?keywords=?view&view#/hour-of-twilight)
Didn’t say they were removed, though, so it could be technical difficulties.
Didn’t say they were removed, though, so it could be technical difficulties.
Must be. They are back now.
Thanks so much for all the music!!!
Thanks so much for all the music!!!
I have no interest in it – there is practically no good music in it! All of the good ones (all…2 of them) are in the OST.
Now, what would be the best "complete soundtrack" for the base game of WOW to accompany these? Is there a complete version that matches the great work Doublehex has done with his releases (regarding completeness, editing, naming, etc.)?
It might be nice to have it complete as well, even if I’ll never listen to most of it… after all I guess I won’t listen to all the expansion music all the time either – after a while you just have your favorite tracks and stick to those.
Also because you have done such a good job with the added patch music, have you considered doing uploads for any of the old zones or any dungeons? I say this because new music was added into the game when cataclysm was released, but it was never released on the official soundtrack. For e.g "Dun Morogh" and "Tanaris" has some very nice ambient music that isn’t available anywhere. Also there has been music added into the pvp battlegrounds that isn’t available anywhere else aswell.

Yeah, there are many really good tracks that where added
Otherwise great job, thankfully someone could give us a great soundtrack that isn’t that mess Blizzard made available…
Unfortunate because I would really like to hear these.

its not as good as Doublehex stuff but I guess it will have to do. You can just rip it from youtube.
I’m getting this, too. Others haven’t, so maybe it’s occasionally up, maybe it depends on region.
Either way, I’m bookmarking this thread, so I’ll check back for 5.1 as well as 2.1-2.2-2.3.
Many thanks, Doublehelix!
Yeah I know. Don’t mean to seem impatient. Sorry Double, you know I love you much 😀 😀 😀
Haha, held back the release for a wallpaper! But thanks nonetheless.
Edit: listening to it right now. Thanks again

Also, any chance for a better cover for Call of the Crusade? It’s the wallpaper, but AR looks funky.
PS – Hella good job. I <3 music, especially scores. So this music rocks, besides running while I play WarCrack. ;p

I meant to ask if you are planning to upload 5.2 music when it’s out. I know it’s not out yet… 🙂
Perhaps half the patches did not add the music, but it’s still such a thing was.
And yet, where you can download gamerip the original World of Warcraft with numbered tracks, as for example at Doublehex ?
———- Post added at 10:03 PM ———- Previous post was at 09:37 PM ———-
Well, kinda good news, I looked through some OLD backups & I do have patch 1.11 & 1.12. Bad news is, they are the EXE installers, so I’m not sure how to extract anything from it, let alone on my Mac. ;p
You can for example, take a copy of the client, open the program MPQ editor, make a couple of screenshots from the audio content, and then the patch.
And after you installed the patch, you can re-open the client the above mentioned programs and compare the screenshots contained in the client audio files.
Sounds crazy, but maybe something good, this is.
Only just saying composition broken. They need quality glue like Doublehex.
And if possible, rename them to the correct name.

Thanks!
Thank you for the rips!
Untrue!!! Damn it sucks being a completionist. ;p
The folder image in there is 50% done – I just need a logo from some official source. I don’t feel like withholding it like I did with 5.1 Landfall. So, this patch had the second largest content of music behind 3.3’s Fall of the Lich King. It’s understandable why – Blizz put in a new daily quest zone, an epic quest that has players running all over the place, and an absolutely enormous raid.
Anyways, I would like to make note that I have added a Paypal donation button to the very bottom of the opening post. I have been out of work for a year now, and I am quite understandably running low on funds. So of course, anything you guys can spare is appreciated. You don’t need to send anything my way!
Enjoy the music guys. I’ll see you for 5.3.
No, Classic had 12 major content patches.
1.1 "World of Warcraft"
1.2 "Mysteries of Maraudon"
1.3 "Ruins of the Dire Maul"
1.4 "The Call to War"
1.5 "Battlegrounds"
1.6 "Assault on Blackwing Lair"
1.7 "Rise of the Blood God"
1.8 "Dragons of Nightmare"
1.9 "The Gates of Ahn’Qiraj"
1.10 "Storms of Azeroth"
1.11 "Shadow of the Necropolis"
1.12 "Drums of War"
At this point, going back and dividing the Classic audio into individual patches would probably be kind of a pain in the ass, but if anyone wants to go through each patch and organize the music as it was introduced, gamefront.com has manual patch mirrors for all of Classic, from 1.1.0 to 1.12.1.
World of Warcraft | Files | Official Patches | Game Front (http://www.gamefront.com/files/listing/pub2/World_of_Warcraft/Official_Patches)
You’d just start out by installing from the original retail discs (I’m not sure offhand what game version they have, probably 1.0.1), and then start manually patching from there.
What are your guys thoughts on HearthStone: Heroes of Warcraft?

is the game music actually in mp3? as, straight from the game data?
Oddly enough, yes. Once you get past the initial mpq file all of the music is in mp3 format, named, and for the most part, tagged by what composer wrote it and what expansion/patch it was made for.
Would like to get them, especially the 3.3 Fall of the Lich King.
Would appreciate a reupload if you have the time.
I had requested to get the complete series (like this one) – Thread 92765 reupped as well but I guess people don’t have those either.
Craaaap. It has! I’m downloading it now. It’ll be done when it’s done.

You didn’t miss much. 5.3 only has two new tracks of music.
Two new tracks? I can’t even find ONE.
MUS_53_Wrathion_C_02.mp3
Check in wow-update-base-16844.mpq. It’s literally just over 3 minutes of music though, and they’re pretty much just slight rearrangements of tracks from 5.2. I’m guessing Brower and his guys were just too pressed for time to get more done. 5.2 had the most music in a patch since Fall of the Lich King, and 5.4 is already on PTR.

They are still nowhere to be found.
I really want those soundtracks and you still have the dead peejeeshare links up. Considering that the last time you posted here was earlier this month, I thought you’d have corrected this by now.
(I don’t mean to sound like you owe it to me or anything. Frankly, I should be posting my reams of soundtracks on this site. I just don’t know how to.)

Yeah, you’re right. I zipped it up before Blizzard gave us a wallpaper. But the placement of the logo was so bad I couldn’t even use it. So I used a fanart.
5.1 – "Landfall"
5.2 – "Rise of the Thunder King"
5.3 – "Escalation" & 5.4 – "The Siege of Orgrimmar"
It’s a hard call for me, but I think I have to go with the Landfall, such a fantastic patch for music.
MoP, in my opinion at least, has had some of the best music written for this game. It’s melodically strong, thematically rich, and instrumentally diverse. I can’t wait to see what these guys cook up next.

WoW 3.3 – Fall of the Lich King
#28 – Battle for Gnomeregan – 5:23
#29 – The Echo Isles & Darkspear Trolls – 14:06
WoW 5.4 "Th e Siege of Orgrimmar"
#23 – Timeless Isle – 7:11 minutes
Sorry dude, I just saw that this was posted. I’ll see how I can manage. Do you know if there was a patch number it was associated with? Or should I associate it with one of my prior release?
Here is an amazing track that was missed, this was in 5.4
Timeless Isle Music – Patch 5.4 World Of Warcraft – YouTube (http://youtu.be/7jqj6ACgT1c)
7:11 long, so epic.
Well, any idea what the file name of this was and the location?
These sound, note for note, like Valley of the Four Winds tracks. A few of those were scattered in the directory that had 5.4’s pieces (Same file names and everything). I’m pretty sure you’ve already arranged those, so I don’t think there’s anything to really rip.
In general, the music I got from the patch 3.3.5, but since patch 3.3 has a rip, then I think it would be logical to associate this music with patch 4.0.1.
Well, to name a rip in the following way – "The Shattering"
Because these events occurred before the cataclysm.
Go to this thread (http://forums.ffshrine.org/f72/doublehexs-world-warcraft-expansion-rips-those-who-138896/#post2418858), you shall found what you seek !

31 tracks were found for 6.2 in the Draenor music folder. I did not go through and clean up the names as I do not have the time right now. I encourage to extract the files yourself or download the zip, rename them accordingly, and share here with others.

Who wrote the music for Fury of Hellfire? Russell Brower? And thank you for leaving the tracks separated.
Russell Brower is what I found for the composer to Fury of Hellfire
Does it tell you when you rip the music out of the game? Or are you using another source?
Also… I made these to replace the iffy quality ones that come in the zips for my own collection.

Corrected the aspect ratio of all the images, cleaned up the text formatting so it’s consistent, inserted some missing artists, altered the look of the main release artwork so it’s noticeably different from the patches, replaced some of the placeholder artwork with official patch art, and created album art for the original versions of WoW and Fury of Hellfire.
If you notice anything wrong, please let me know.
.
It came from when I ripped the music using the CASCViewer, so I just kept it.
Good to know, thank you.
Here they are:
WoW 5.1 – Landfall (https://mega.nz/#!boBClK5L!jmhpsOnsMtnT49guaekBWUA2jhS3y9sRSyMYHxEEefM)

Just an FYI to all. All the game music can be extracted using the CASC Viewer (from 1.0 to present).

Why not FLAC? Well it is simple. The rip is only 160kbps MP3s. FLAC would be a waste of space. I would wait for the official release to grab a FLAC copy then.
Why not 320kbps MP3 or higher quality? The files are a direct rip from the game files. They were encoded as 160kbps. You can convert them to 320kbps but that would be, again, a waste of time and space.
I’ve got to say, I love the amount of thematic reprisals in Legion. I’m hearing things from just about every expansion. The new material is fantastic too. Anduin’s motif has got to be one of the finest themes I’ve heard all year.
Edit: There are several tracks labeled as being from 6.2, are they updated versions of the original audio or was that just a mistake?
Thanks for posting this. I haven’t looked into these WoW stuff in ages. Was surprised to hear a seemingly full ensemble present in just about every random cue I sampled. They used to reserve live musicians for special moments only.
Another surprise is the presence of a track by Tracy W. Bush, whom I haven’t heard a note by since the first WoW game launched 12 years ago. It is clearly recycled from WarCraft 3 but still good. Wish he’d make a return to Blizzard like Jason Hayes did. The old team used to deliver more quality tunes than this… army they have got assembled right now. Though Neal Acree’s still going strong.
These are only album covers, there is no music in this post. 😉

Update log:
2018.08.15 – Fixed all broken links and re-uploaded all artwork with a laundry list of changes, corrections, and tweaks. Updated the list of cover to include up to Battle for Azeroth patch 8.0.1.
2017.03.11 – Corrected Level 70 Elite Tauren Chieftain artist name on both Patch 2.x & Patch 2.1.2’s credits (no S at the end of the group name).
2017.03.08 – Added Shelly Guidotti to Patch 7.1’s credits. She co-authored "Winter Holiday" with Edo Guidotti. Aww…
2017.03.04 – Removed Derek Duke from Patch 1.11’s credits and created new covers for Patches 1.5 & 1.12, which is when the "vanilla" PvP music was actually introduced into the game.
2017.02.20 – Recreated Patch 2.1.2’s cover with artwork from that time period (official Blizzard logo). Minor text alignment fix on Patch 6.2’s credits.
2017.02.14 – Added Glenn Stafford to Patch 1.1’s credits.
2017.01.12 – Added cover for Patch 7.1.5: "Brawler’s Guild" (Official Blizzard patch art).
2017.01.09 – Completely rebuilt the entire collection from scratch. I have lost track of how many enhancements and corrections were made, every single cover has been improved in some way. Either higher resolution artwork was used and/or it was realigned or the credits for that patch were corrected (yet again), based on my research into what music was added to WoW and when. There are a number of new additions as well:
– Patch 2.1.2: "Power of the Horde" is when the Elite Tauren Chieftains concert was added to Outlands, prior to becoming a feature of the Darkmoon Faire, featuring the song "Power of the Horde".
– Patch 2.2: Voice Chat! is when the inn and tavern music got overhauled. Prior to that patch, there was a very small amount of music repeated across the different races’ rest areas.
– Patch 3.3.3: "Obsidian Sanctum" apparently saw missing music added to the Obsidian Sanctum instance during the last days of Wrath of the Lich King.
– Patch 6.1: The Garrison Update was a bit of mystery (Look further down this thread for a dedicated post about it), but the tl;dr is that there was only one piece of music added for that patch; "Invincible", from Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne. The rest of the music used for the Garrison jukebox already existed in-game.
– Patch 7.0.3: Legion’s cover has been finally finalized.
– Patch 7.1: Return to Karazhan’s cover has been added.
2016.09.12 – Corrected the artists on Patch 5.4, added expansion version of Warlords of Draenor. (Single largest number of artists tapped for an individual expansion’s soundtrack – Only three WoW artists did not have their music featured in WoD: Joseph Lawrence, Jeremy Soule, & Matt Uelmen.)
2016.09.11 – Updated Patch 1.1 & 1.x’s logo with a sharper version, added missing artist David Arkenstone to Shadow of the Necropolis patch cover (Fire Festival music added in patch 1.11), Created two different covers for Patch 1.1, 3.0.3, and 5.0.4. One containing the artists featured in the music released at the launch of those expansions, and one containing the artists featured throughout that entire expansion.
2016.08.29 – Added artists to The Garrison Update covers, removed the title from the Operation: Gnomeregan & Zalazane’s Fall faction covers and created a generic cover with a title.
2016.08.21 – Uploaded covers for World of Warcraft in-game music rips. These covers fix a lot of errors with DoubleHex’s own music archives such as crediting the wrong artist or attributing music to the wrong release patch. It is assumed you know where everything goes.
If you spot a mistake, please let me know and I will fix it as soon as possible.
All of the songs can be heard here (The YouTube page has a rundown of all the tracks): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6BIplmlzF-Y
Oddball selection. A lot of the tracks have alternate titles to what they are called in-game or the official soundtracks. Tracks like Stormwind, Ironforge, Orgrimmar, and others are the old versions from the original version of WoW. Whereas Gnomeregan is from Operation: Gnomeregan and later Cataclysm and The Zandalari is from The Thunder King, as opposed to Rise of the Zandalari.
I assembled a tracklist of all 40 music rolls added in patch 6.1:

The music is linked below. Some notes first though:
– Admiral had mentioned that maybe some of the music from the jukebox is different. I didn’t notice anything but feel free to reply if you see any changes from the old songs
– the garrison jukebox music has been labeled (gjb) next to the song title since many of them share names with previous songs but are in fact medley’s from the games
– Eternal Holly Brew 03 sounds wildly different from the other Eternal Holly Brew variations
– the third brawlers’s guild song is listed as a song but it’s more just a note

Whats the decryption key?
I specifically chose no decryption on the site so it would be easy to download. Which link are you having trouble with?
7.1 link is telling me i need a decryption key
Okay, I updated the link. See if that works.
It still tells me the same thing
When I logged back into Mega it said the file was decrypted. Weird. Hopefully I fixed it and updated the link again. Let me know if it works.
I feel I should mention that Neal Acree has been uploading a series of previously unreleased tracks to cinematics from the game on his youtube channel. This is stuff that pretty much isn’t rippable unless you wanna get into tricky audio editing.
Edit: He’s also taken requests before, so if there are any tracks you’re itching to hear, it might not be a bad idea to leave a comment on one of his more recent videos.

World of Warcraft 7.1 – Return to Karazhan (https://mega.nz/#!6w4n2LYY!BiSrj3JkGW_3R7ZzKBrHn3-dAIcTErlmLW0gv-tKfus)
Why MP3? Only way to extract it.
Why not lossless? It is encoded as 160kpbs. Saving it in lossless would be a waste of time/space.
– let me know if you see any problems and I’ll try and fix them
– Thanks to MAeron, Admiral, and Enforcer to help keep the WOW music alive!

I have the ToS logo, I’m waiting for Blizzard to release official artwork I can use for the background. And I’m going to wait for Patch 7.2 to be released to the public. Also, please make sure people know that your zips are ripped from YouTube and not the actual game files.
Some of these, especially the longer ones (like Cathedral of the Night and Shackled) seem to be several smaller songs or variations of the same song joined together.
Yes, this is how Blizzard has formatted the music in WoW since the beginning. The game has scripts to tell it when and where to play what music, for how long, in what order, etc. The idea is that you randomly here one of the variations of a song at a randomly chosen time. It also depends on what you’re doing in the game.
Sure thing.
Is there a drop in audio quality? I don’t know much about audio fidelity. I just really like WOW music and am sad they don’t release it.

Probably not since it’s 160kbps audio. Though the files are VBR, so it doesn’t take a lot of redubbing before the highs and lows turns to complete garbage. Also, I’ve spotted cutting errors and other oddities in the music uploaded to YouTube vs music extracted from the game.
Blizzard does release limited CD versions of the soundtracks for each expansion, but most people would never get the opportunity to buy them. And the final tracks are medleys of only the most prominent songs they wrote, nor do they include the different variations you can hear while playing the game.
The amount of music featured in World of Warcraft is staggering compared to most games so it is a shame that there’s no official way to enjoy it elsewhere.

Okay, gotcha. So we’ll probably have to wait till Inforcer uploads them from the CASC viewer. Thanks for explaining. 🙂

Ooh, shoot guys. Did anyone manage to download Neal’s videos? It looks like all his WoW cinematic music is gone.
Checking his Soundcloud page, his stuff there’s been purged too. He was the only one who was able to give us clean audio of these tracks, but I’m guessing a higher up didn’t like him doing it.

thanks four your effort though
Once CASC viewer is updated beyond 0.21, we should be able to get the music to 7.3. At least in the past when a new WoW patch is released, CASC viewer needs to be updated in order to extract the new music. Likely to do with the "listfile.txt" that someone else creates. That is my guess.

I had this done when the game first came out, but I hard time with a cover for it, and I kept on putting it off and off until my hard drive crashed. Had to redo everything, but it is coming out for real this time.
So stay tuned for that.
Inforcer seems to know about CASC, at least more than the rest of us do. Maybe try to hit him up? I’ve tried and couldn’t get it to extract anything, let alone music.
MMO Champion also will include music when assets are updated within the game. Here’s an example (https://www.mmo-champion.com/threads/2405386-Battle-for-Azeroth-Beta-Build-26871-Music?highlight=music).
What I found is that Inforcer’s rips had drastically changed the name of the files that are in the game already. The same goes for MMO Champion. I don’t know what is up with that.
Thanks to a user at MMO champions for the share. Only changes I have made are adding information to the ID3Tags. The ones I have received from MMO Champion, I have only altered the ID3 Tags. Otherwise the file naming is exactly at MMO Champion. It is strange why the files there are different from yours DoubleHex. BTW, is there a site where you get the latest listfile for the CASC viewer by chance? Seems like the one I have is way outdated, so I have been differing to others to grab the rips.
listfile (right click on "download" and go to "save file" or similar on your browser. Txt file is about 60 mb)

CASCExplorer (the viewer)

CASCExplorer Basic Instructions for Music Extraction (at least, this is what I do)
*Make sure to have the PTR version of WoW installed on your machine*
Step 01 – Download CascExplorer and extract it to a folder of your choice. Desktop is fine.
Step 02 – Download the listfile.txt above. Save it to the folder you created in step 1. Overwrite the listfile when prompted.
Step 03 – Run CASCExplorer
Step 04 – Click on File -> Open Online Storage -> WoW PTR. The program will download files it needs and eventually loads the listfile.
Step 05 – Navigate to Root (Read Only) -> sound -> music
Step 06 – Dig deeper from there for certain music files. Otherwise hightlight all and right click mouse. Go to extract. Follow last bit of steps and you should have all the music from the game in the folder you created.

Music in archive not full
Do you know what’s missing?
In other news, I did a complete do over of all the other soundtracks. ALL. OF. THEM. I’ll start releasing them in batches leading up to the BFA release.
Also, I got a complete soundtrack of The Old Republic I need to get out.
Oh. My. God.
I found out about this thread and its amazing scores last week. Awesome music. Do you need covers for the scores? I came up with some cover artworks by my own, so if you are interested, feel free to use them. I tried both a "framed" version (with boxes at the upper and lower side) and a "clear" version ??? both have their pros, but the framed version uses more of the key art. I have done those covers for everything from Mists of Pandaria till Battle for Azeroth. Will upload them tomorrow.

Does anyone know if there are patch soundtracks for the classic World of Warcraft anywhere? Seems like I can’t find them, just a Complete Soundtrack for the basic game.
That’s easy to explain: I took the main composer of every Soundtrack to put him on the front. If you check other albums you’ll see that’s a common way to name composers. Some of the WoW albums have 5 or more composers who worked on it – I dropped their names in favor of a nice looking cover.
Is this official? Didn???t find anything on that last week other than Stafford being the guy named first at the soundtrack preview of ???Before the Storm???. Where did you get your info from?
Derek Duke is the music director of Blizzard, but Glenn Stafford was the lead composer for BFA. Derek Duke hardly contributed to the score. Why would he get mentioned?
Thanks for clarifying, Doublehex!
And many thanks to all of you out there keeping the music of WOW going! (Doublehex, Inforcer, Carthinius, Amiral, MAeron, & Reidor to name a few)

Don’t thank me for the music, I’ve just posted album covers. Speaking of which…
My album artwork post has been repaired: Thread 91741
Right-click and save image for 500×500 JPGs, Right-click and save link for 1000×1000 PNGs. Imgur is getting rather testy with directly linking to images now, if you get sent to their website instead of it just loading the image, let me know.
And some more custom covers!
Those are really cool. They look like book covers.
Thank you! 😀 I like your covers, too ??? and kudos for putting all composers at them, I know I chose the much easier way. 😉
Did the plan to reupload the previous patches, releasing them in batches leading up to the BFA release, plan fall through? Or are they posted somewhere and I missed them?

Does anyone know if there are (or were) any separate soundtracks for the patches/chapters before The Burning Crusade? Had no luck in finding anything.
Officially released? There is the World of Warcraft Soundtrack which was bundled with the Collector’s Edition of the game and sold at conventions. Much later there was Taverns of Azeroth, which only includes the music they added to rest places between the launch of the game through the end of The Burning Crusade. World of Warcraft The Burning Crusade Soundtrack also includes the suites for Ahn’Qiraj and Naxxramas. And the World of Warcraft Mosaic album has "Zul’Gurub Voodoo" mixed in with the music for the Zul’Aman raid. That covers most of the patch music added before The Burning Crusade, but not quite all of it.
Ah, thanks for your elaborate answer! 🙂 I was thinking about the "non-official releases" like the soundtracks done for the patches in later expansion sets, like 2.1 Black Temple and 2.3 The Gods of Zul’Aman. So, they are the first ones anyone did?
1.1 = All the music from the base game: Zone/climate music, city music, battle music, one-off tracks for things like magic, mystery, spooky, being dead…, the music for the instance Gnomeregan (The only instance with unique music until patch 1.9), and generic inn music (including "Undead Dance").
1.5 = The first batch of PvP music.
1.6 = Darkmoon Faire music. (Funny, because this patch’s headline feature is the raid Assault on Blackwing Lair… but that just recycled existing music.)
1.7 = One track; "Zul’Gurub Voodoo".
1.9 = Ahn’Qiraj instance music, and a lot more mystery music.
1.11 = Naxxramas instance music.
1.12 = More PvP music.

Only the handful of rips mentioned before. But I’d like to see your cover attempts at the pre-Burning Crusade patches, and more bar-less variants!
Sorry for being piss poor at communication. Between work, writing, WoW grinding, and real life, I find it harder and harder to stay on top of things.

Fret not. Real life comes first. 🙂
Looking forward to the BFA collection when you release it.
Question. Are you still planning on re-releasing the previous WOW soundtracks, but simplified?

Question. Are you still planning on re-releasing the previous WOW soundtracks, but simplified?
That would be great!
No, but that sounds like a fun project.
I assume you mean you want to augment the CD soundtracks with game files for whatever music and variations are missing. The official soundtracks are not 100% like the in-game tracks. Some of them might be re-arranged or from different performances and I know some of them include ambient sound effects (especially tracks on the Taverns album).
It is not simplified. It is done without any of the bullshit, with the different musical pieces woven together in a more natural way.
Whatever you want to call it. Is something you still plan on doing? Do you want any help? I’ve got audio editing software.

Yea. Like right now I know the Stormwind track is made up of Stormwind Intro/06 and Stormwind 07 (06 is the same as the intro moment, just faded in and out), Ironforge is Stormwind 02, Sacred is Stormwind 03, etc. This way I can tell which in-game cues were never released on CD. I might post my results when I’m done if anybody’s interested. One thing I realized so far is how dynamically compressed the OSTs are, so much so that the lower bitrate in-game versions almost sound like different songs.
I’m interested. Would love to have someone tell me what I need to mix together, because the mixing shouldn’t be too bad on my end.
As promised: Me attempting to do some more covers for the pre-Burning Crusade patches. Please note that I found it difficult to find nice images for them, so I ended up using the ones Blizzard provides in their WOW timeline. If you have any better images, feel free to drop me a link!

Nah that was the only one. That was when I realized there was only like four songs added to the game in that patch.. felt kind of weird putting together art and id3 tags for just that. So then I started going back to see how much music was added in each patch which is what has sidetracked me currently. But I make art like that for every video game rip I make for myself so eventually I’ll do the other patches too.
Grab it here -> https://github.com/WoW-Tools/CASCExplorer/releases
I normally would upload it, but I need to do some cloud storage recovery. Will post it eventually unless someone else beats me to it.

Why MP3? Only way to extract it.
Why not in higher quality or lossless? MP3’s extracted are only encoded at 160. Be a waste of time and space to re-encode them any higher without have the lossless source to begin with.

Was there any new material released with 6.1? It’s the one major patch I’m missing from 2.0 to present.
Are the vanilla expansion rips still out there somewhere?
Technically, one of them is new. Not new new, but new to WoW: Invincible. The track was first heard in Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne, and it was referenced in other tracks throughout Wrath of the Lich King, but 6.1 added the full song to World of Warcraft for the first time.
Actually, the track heard in Warcraft III is different. Invincible is definitely based off it, but it’s a separate recording and piece of music all together. 15 years on and it’s still my holy grail for Warcraft OST stuff. The closest we have is a pretty decent recreation.
Sadly Deggial’s Links for 8.1 and 8.1.5 have expired, so these are missing.
About those covers from 1.X: Great Job! But does that mean that all those patches had their own music? I only have the 1.0 Main Game with 29 Tracks (Track 11 is missing, why? O_O) and after that there is already 2.0 Burning Crusade, then 2.1 etc… where would one get Rise of the Blood God and Ahn’Qiraj and that stuff?
Save me Deggial! You are my only hope! (or anyone else who has that music available, but from what I have seen Deggial seems to be some kind of authority in this regard)
Thank You! 🙂
So this is 8.1 and 8.1.5 combined? Or is there any additional in plain 8.1. And is there any track besides that small music box track with the theme of "Daughter of the Sea"?
If you talk about these ones: https://lensdump.com/a/world-warcraft-original-patches.8UrZ2, I am pretty sure I made them per request and there is no real album behind them. So no, you didn’t miss anything. 🙂
The first retail release of World of Warcraft is 1.1. This version has all the open world music, the city music, mood music, and the music for the Gnomeregan dungeon and the Day of the Dead holiday (…okay).
The next music added to the game was in 1.5, the Battleground update. It finally introduced Battlegrounds to the public servers and with them some (but not all) of the classic PvP music.
More music was added to 1.6, which was headlined by the Assault on Blackwing Lair raid. Ironically, that raid just reused existing game music. The new music was part of the (old) Darkmoon Faire which also introduced in this patch. Shame you can’t hear it in-game anymore (unless you’re playing Classic), it has a very relaxing Renaissance vibe against the current Darkmoon Faire’s haunted house motif.
1.7 introduced the Zul’Gurub raid, and with it a single song (Zul’Gurub Voo Doo) that plays during that raid.
1.9 introduced Ahn’Qiraj and all the music for that raid. It also added more mood music under the category "mystery".
1.11 introduced Naxxramas and all the music for that raid.
1.12 was another PvP update, specifically for the Western Plaguelands open-world battlefield. With it, more PvP music was added to the game… and the last time PvP music would be added to WoW until Cataclysm.
Blizzard cobbled most of this music together into the retail album for World of Warcraft. You get to hear all of the broad strokes, but many of the variations that exist in the game to this day are not there or only heard for a brief moment. They also added tracks that have never been heard in game, or which were only heard during cinematics. A bit more of the vanilla music was in Taverns of Azeroth. Though that album’s music is mostly from The Burning Crusade – the period of time when all the taverns got their music overhauled and expanded.
I still don’t know if I have everything from Warlords of Dreanor. There is a Folder with 19 Tracks which seems to be the "official" one ("03 – Times change" is the cinematic) and another with 85 tracks, starting with "02 -A Siege of Worlds" and ending with "86 – Blackrock Foundry". Are the Patches included in that?
Sorry, I never played the game (just WC 2 and 3) and like to use the music in PnP-RPG-Sessions as background.

So basically instead of ripping music in-game can be done from this youtube playlist: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLW868HfwGgCMhScTxVd1I4hOEwJYwDr3u just using a Youtube to MP3 converter.
The Youtube Audio is around 160-192kbps, rip I’ve downloaded from the links are in 192kbps but after analyzing them they are a bit lower (maybe 160), so it is the same.
Just giving this info because some of the older links doesn’t work anymore, so it can help someone 🙂

Also 8.0 music, separate tracks to download: https://www.mmo-champion.com/threads/2405386-Battle-for-Azeroth-Beta-Build-26871-Music
