Yes, it was Princess Rosa in the play I was referring to, which, of course, is a reference to Rosa Farell, the main heroine and White Mage in FFIV (and Cecil's love interest).

I didn't consider the Dragon King Valvados being a reference to Barbracia in FFIV though, because the name 'Valvalis' in the original US SNES version was a mistranslation, so I don't think that was a deliberate reference.

Anyway, good job! Your turn. :)

I believe the monster in question is called a Skeeskee (besides Shake's model they also have a palette swap enemy on the Gaea Cliffs called a 'Headbomber' too.)

But I looked up the bestiary at the back of the guidebook to find it, so my answer won't count. :p

Cool.

In the item shop on the first floor of the Shinra Building there is a video monitor which shows an advertisement for 'Shinra Motor Mobiles' (which can be inspected by Cloud the first time you enter the Shinra Building in disc 1).

Excluding the 'Mako Engine' and the 'SS Wishbone Suspension System' shown at the end, how many cars are shown in the video? (Bonus points if you can name the model numbers for each car.) :D

Wow, to be honest, I completely forgot I'd asked a question here it was that long ago. :p

Anyway, your answer is right Gal :D There were indeed 3 cars shown in the video. Well done!

For those wondering, there are the cars shown (the type is more less what's written in bad English in the video): pA-86 short-wheel-based wide 4 wheel 2-seater; sA-27 light-weight 3-wheeled single seater; s-510 (new model) driver-only big sedan.

As for how I think these questions up, I really have to rack my brain to come up with some of these, especially trying to think of interesting questions people haven't already mentioned. It's not easy. :p

My question... and hopefully not a hard one.

What is written on the plaque on Jenova's head?

JohnnyMercyside
02-04-2011, 10:10 AM
Without checking, a guess is something a long of the lines of:

Copyright Squaresoft 1996 Made in Hong Kong

I doubt that's completely right though.

Enkidoh
02-04-2011, 10:47 AM
That's close, but the order of the lines is wrong, not to mention there was a big typo in the real thing as well:

It's Made in Hong Kong. All Rights Reserved 1996. Squer Company Limited.. And also all in caps (a screenshot of the image in question can be found here: )

Advent Childen, Last Order, and Crisis Core changed the words though to something more fitting though (the original writing seems to be a 'signature' of members of the development team or their sub-contractors, as scattered throughout many of FFVII's field backgrounds are the numbers '1996' and '1997', obviously alluding to the years of FFVII development.).

But I digress. :p

EDIT: I first checked the answer to this question with one of my own screenshots, but I couldn't be bothered uploading it so I just used the FF Wiki image instead.

Darth Revan
02-04-2011, 01:05 PM
The answer is:

"MADE IN HONG KONG"
"ALL RIGHTS RESERVED 1996"
"SQUER COMPANY LIMITED"

You were quite close JohnnyMercyside, but I have to give it to Enkidoh as he even got the spelling typo correct. Next question is yours Enkidoh.

EDIT: In Last Order and Advent Children, the plaque read:

"STRICT SECRECY"
"SCIENTIFIC INQUIRY SECTION"
"SHIN-RA COMPANY LIMITED"

As Enkidoh added to that change as well, extra credit goes to him (in rep points).

Yuffie - Throw
Red XIII - Fire?, Poison?
Cait Sith - Manipulate

JohnnyMercyside
02-07-2011, 09:17 AM
Withope is right I think, apart from Red, I'm sure Red comes with Fire + All. Poison is available in the same room you get Red in, but you can get it before going against that boss.

Withope
02-07-2011, 06:26 PM
I'm probably wrong about Red XIII. I just remember Fire + Poison being an integral part of that first battle with Red at the Shinra HQ.

Enkidoh
02-11-2011, 06:35 AM
That's most of the way there, but there is still one person you're missing and the materia this particular person is equipped with. I also seem to recall Yuffie coming to the party with Fire materia as well as Throw, but I can't remember exactly (I'll just say Throw is correct anyway).

Also, one of Red XIII's materia is incorrect (but Fire is right - he just has one more materia he joins the party with).

So, there is still one person still to get, and their materia. ;)

Any guesses?

I can think of three, the world map theme, steal the tiny bronco and the highwind theme. Oh wait there is also the scene where they sit on the centre of Nibelheim Something to with 5 years ago and again cant remember the name but I believe there is also a variation played when you see cloud in the Clinic.

If anyone knows the names please feel free to jump in.

Withope

So far you've got "Main Theme of Final Fantasy VII," "Steal the Tiny Bronco," "The Highwind takes to the skies," and "On that day five years ago." Those are all correct.

& no, "Off the Edge of Despair" does not include the main theme. Nice try though.

There are other pieces with the main theme in the game.

"holding my thoughts in my heart" is another. There are still a good amount that utilize the main theme.

I seem to be the only person who is answering this lol Im gonna take a guess and say its in world crisis at some point. Also from listening to it it sounds like its in Aeris's theme as well. Again only through random chance that it came on my ipod while it was on shuffle sounds like there is part of it in Anxious heart.

Edit: going by your Hint the only one I could think that would match would maybe Hurry Faster and weapon raid but now im pretty much just guessing.

Here's a few more (luckily I have the OST loaded in Winamp ;)):

Partially plays in Lifestream (the track that plays in Bugenhagen's Planetarium)
Who Am I? (track that plays at various times, usually when Cloud is grappling with his split personality)
Interrupted by Fireworks also includes a slight variation as well (the track that first plays during Cloud's date scene at Gold Saucer on the monorail)
Steal the Tiny Bronco! (self explanatory, plays during the FMV scene after defeating Palmer and the Tiny Bronco takes off).

And the Main Theme also appears at various times in both A World Crisis and Staff Roll (the end credits) as well. ;)

Withope
02-17-2011, 10:36 AM
It is in "World Crisis," "Who Am I?," "Interrupted by Fireworks," & "Staff Roll." Nice job!

I won't include "Lifestream," and I've even re-listened just to try to find something I missed, but I don't feel Uematsu intended "Lifestream" to share the main theme. They both have similar melodies, but they just sound different. Maybe he did intend it, but I just don't hear it.

Ohhhh, you guys are soooo close.

Another hint: I'm willing to bet you've heard one of these pieces a lot - on the third disc.

Enkidoh
02-17-2011, 02:15 PM
Is it Continue (the 'dead music'/game over theme)?

I admit, I have no idea what else it could be, as the only other tracks that feature the main theme in disc 3 that I know of have already been mentioned.

Im guessing it was in none of the ones I mentioned in my previous post?

Withope
02-18-2011, 08:46 AM
Thus far this is what we have...

Baby Boink:
6 - "Main Theme of Final Fantasy VII," "Steal the Tiny Bronco," "The Highwind takes to the skies," "On that day five years ago," "Holding my thoughts in my heart," & "World Crisis"

Enkidoh:
3 - "Who am I?," "Interrupted by Fireworks," "Staff Roll"

More hints: There are two more pieces left that include the main theme. Both of them are on the darker side. Again, one of these pieces is heard a lot on the third disc (of the game. not the OST), and the other is heard when you find out that "this guy are sick."

You may think that Baby Boink has already won BUT WAIT!!!! I am now accepting extra credit to this question! =0 So really, Enkidoh you could tie him (if you get both correct and you get the extra credit).

Hint for extra credit:
This form of the main theme is not on the OST. You can only hear it within the game.

Agent0042
02-18-2011, 02:33 PM
I don't know, but I would like to say that I like this format of question - having multiple answers and awarding the credit to whoever gets the most, with possible bonus credit factored in. I'd like to see more questions like that.

Enkidoh
02-18-2011, 06:08 PM
Well, the only track I can think of that the second clue alludes to is Underneath the Rotting Pizza (the track that plays in the Sector 5 Slums, including that infamous scene), but it doesn't sound anything like the Main Theme to me at all.

As for the first clue, is it the alternate version of Those Chosen By the Planet? (the tolling bell theme with the added string movement, that often plays during cutscenes? - that last clue gave it away, because it's indeed not on the official OST CD album, but is available in the PSF rip of the OST. ;)).

Withope
02-19-2011, 01:27 AM
@Agent, ya it could be cool to start using this format. I was trying to think of a 2nd place prize. The only thing I could think of is...after my question is over and someone wins 1st prize, the 1st prize wins the next question. But the 2nd prize winner will receive a hint (within a private message) from me for when I have the next opportunity to ask a question. Buuut I might be making this more complicated than this has to be =0

@Enkidoh, "Underneath the Rotting Pizza" is indeed correct. & trust me, it does incorporate the main theme.

I apologize if I wasn't too clear, but I am requiring 2 that include the main theme, and 1 that will count for extra credit (so it could be 3 in total). It isn't the variation of "Those Chosen by the Planet" for either the required variation or the extra credit variation.

Hint for required variation:
You hear this piece in the crater along with one other main place in this game...

Hint for extra credit variation:
You could hear this variation of the main theme - in this game, or you could hear some Chopin, Mozart, or Liszt - in this game - if you really wanted... Oh, and it won't ever me on a PSF file. You have to play the game to hear it.

Enkidoh
02-19-2011, 04:24 AM
Well then, there's only one other piece I can think of that matches that, and that's Reunion, which indeed plays in only two places in the game - in Whirlwind Maze during the scene where Rufus, Scarlet and Hojo discover that big lump of materia that encases Sephiroth (and where Cloud gives the Black Materia to him). It also plays in the Northern Crater at the end of the game if you take the left path, and then left again.

I also remember now that the Main Theme also shows up in the background of the FMV sequence for the 'final battle' after defeating Safer Sephiroth (along with a few other tracks). But that's a long shot.

Withope
02-19-2011, 06:28 AM
Ok. Those aren't correct, but here are two big hints...

Hint for required variation:
There are two pieces that regularly play on the world map. One is "Main Theme of FFVII" & the other is...?

Hint for extra credit variation:
Think Nibelheim, think Tifa's Final Heaven.

Enkidoh
02-19-2011, 02:46 PM
Ah, that's the Great Northern Cave, which to me sounds nothing like the Main Theme (it's much darker in tone for one thing).

As for the second one, all I can come up with for that second clue is Anxious Heart, the piece that plays in Nibelheim (and a few other areas). which someone else already mentioned and you never mentioned if it was right. so presumed it wasn't, hence why I never mentioned it - although I'm puzzled by your reference to Tifa's level 4 Limit Break, because the piece of music you have to play on the piano to receive it is just the Main Theme anyway (apparently you can also play Highwind Takes to the Skies there as well, but I don't think that gives you anything.

Anyway, I think this question has gone on long enough as everyone else seems to have given up, so right or wrong just tell us the answer Withope. ;)

Withope

"The Great Northern Cave" & playing the piano in Nibelheim are both correct.

Here are all the spots that the main themes plays...
Main Theme Of FFVII (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6UARM4q7hHU): Self explanatory
Underneath The Rotting Pizza (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J8o9gGOKEg4#t=00m30s): 00:30 - 00:55. Listen to the string section. It shows off the Main theme of Final Fantasy VII. The melody and key signature are altered, but it is very much a variation of the main theme.
Who Am I? (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2vbudyTPelE): Right off the bat you can hear it. It's just in a different key signature and different time signature.
Holding My Thoughts in My Heart (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hf3CJZAAz2g): Different time signature and a bit embellished.
On That Day 5 Years Ago (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ALEwLnq1ZrI): Right off the bat. Different key signature.
Steal the Tiny Bronco! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gvIyaygeMW0): After the intro, it shows up much like in the fashion of "The Highwind Takes to the Skies."
Interuped by Fireworks (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Pi9xgOXvTs#t=00m56s): 00:56 - 01:13. This one I was a bit reluctant to adding as a variation of the main theme. But the more I listen to it, the more I see it.
Highwind Takes to the Skies (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0dnl6NoEVdo): Pretty obvious. The A section of this piece is certainly a variation of the main theme.
The Great Northern Cave (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eAReag1yzEY#t=02m45s): 02:45 - 03:02. Sad and desolate. Altered melody but certainly a variation of the main theme.
World Crisis Part 1 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2_nnuO2QTEk#t=00m38s): 00:38 - 01:48. I love this. The main theme (Cloud's Theme) intertwined with Tifa's Theme. I would so love to hear an orchestra version of this entire piece...
World Crisis Part 2 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2_nnuO2QTEk#t=05m03s): 05:03 - 05:30. Different time signature. Altered melody.
Staff Roll Part 1 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lgb6peaKCSc#t=02m30s): 02:30 - 03:12. Very much in the style of "Highwind Takes to the Skies."
Staff Roll Part 2 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lgb6peaKCSc#t=06m01s): 06:01 - end. Very climactic version of the main theme...as it should be.

Anyways. That would mean Enkidoh and Baby Boink are both tied. The first or you 2 to tell me the key signature of "Main Theme Of FFVII" will be rewarded the next question.

Okay (racks brain to think of a question that hasn't been mentioned yet).

Name all the various variations of the Chocobo Theme which appear in FFVII. This includes the themes used in Gold Saucer as well, or which simply have the name 'chocobo' in their title.

Bonus points for those who can name which of the above themes includes a homage to a well-known 60's rock song in it's melody, including the name of the song that it references and the band who wrote it. ;)

Agent0042
02-23-2011, 04:04 PM
"Racing Chocobos, Place Your Bets"
"Cinco de Chocobo"
"A Great Success" (I don't know if you're counting these, but they are chocobo-related)
"Tango of Tears"
"Waltz de Chocobo"
"Electric de Chocobo" (This is probably the rock song, but I got nothing on the rest of that.)
"Farm Boy" (again, if we're going chocobo-related)

Enkidoh
03-06-2011, 07:54 PM
Well, it's been a fortnight with no further takers, so I'm going to just give it to Agent seeing as you got most of them. :)

You missed Fiddle de Chocobo though (the track that plays during the actual Chocobo Races, as well as in the Races lobby), although you did even remembered tracks like Farm Boy (the Chocobo Ranch track), and the variations of the Fanfare that play at the end of the Chocobo Race that I also indeed was looking for, on account of me trying to be a smart arse and hope no one would think of them. ;)

And Electric de Chocobo was the one that indeed has a well-known 60's rock song in it's melody - the surf track Wipeout! by The Safaris (Uematsu has stated in interviews that he is a huge fan of classic 60's American rock and roll and a lot of his music features references to the rock and roll era, Electric de Chocobo being one of them).

Anyway, good job! Your go Agent. :D

I'm pretty sure it was because they were rebelling against the Shinra and chasing down Sephiroth.

Actually, Topopoz correctly answered it in the second post in this thread ;):

I think it's in the northern crater the first time you visit it before cloud gives him the black materia, in the part of the whirlwind maze, but you can't fight it there since the game is incomplete, you can only encounter it on the gold saucer and it has 15000 HP.

in the Sector 7 Slums, just out the front of the Pillar that Reno blows up there are two guards guarding the southern route.
Where does that route connect?

Enkidoh
04-10-2011, 11:02 AM
It leads to Sector 6, specifically the gate next to the playground where Cloud and Aeris see Tifa in the chocobo carriage exit from. Speaking to one of the guards reveals this (along with a few other things).

Sorry for the late posting 7alentine, I've been feeling ill the last few days.

Anyway, here's my question:

Which Enemy Skill is the only one that you can cast even after completely exhausting your MP? (in other words, the spells costs zero MP to cast). As well, what effect does the spell have, which monster can you learn this spell from, and where in the game are they located? (the last two should be obvious once you know the spell) ;)

Agent0042
04-11-2011, 10:01 PM
I believe that's the Goblin Punch. You learn it from the Goblins on Goblin Island and it's a non-elemental that's basically like a physical attack. Except, I think maybe it does better damage if you use it on an enemy of a higher level. I think there's some such special condition, but I'm not sure if that's the right one.

7alentine
04-11-2011, 10:22 PM
close, Agent0042 but not quite, it does more damage the closer you are in level to your opponent, clocking out at around 7000 if you're the exact same level as your opponent. useless after disk 2 imo, most enemies aren't above lvl 50 from then.

i'd still give it to Agent though

Enkidoh
04-11-2011, 10:59 PM
Yeah, Agent's answer was correct, although your info was also right 7alentine (it was only really useful the earliest in the game that it was possible to learn, which was as soon as you gain the Highwind in disc 2). Really though, I always just considered Goblin Punch a back-up attack for my weaker characters if I ran out of MP (namely, Cait Sith).

Anyway, it's your turn Agent. :)

Agent0042
04-11-2011, 11:07 PM
And I considered Goblin Punch useful if I just wanted to do a physical attack, but my character was at their Limit Break.

Okay, according to the "Mog House" game, how old is Mog? There are two different answers, I'll take either or both answers.

Enkidoh

I, kinda cheated and looked at my screenshots as I couldn't remember for the life of me what it was, so I'll mention both: according to the Mog House minigame Mog is 'pipapopupo' years old in moogle years, which is supposedly the equivalent of 28 years of age in human terms.

Exactly how long moogles live for though is anyone's guess.

What is the time shown on the archway clock in the square in Midgar's Sector 8 in the opening FMV scene?

7alentine
04-14-2011, 05:54 PM
12:10, im guessing am by the fact its dark.

Enkidoh
04-16-2011, 04:08 AM
That is... correct! :D

Interestingly, when Cloud later heads through there after bombing the Number 1 reactor, the clock appears to say 2:35 am, yet when Cloud is on the train a few moments later, the train announcer mentions that their estimated time of arrival is 12:23 am. I guess Midgar's clocks aren't very accurate. :p

Although you may not know you're doing it, there is a way to alter Bizarro Sephiroth's stats and Safer Sephiroth's stats - prior to battle (And no, I'm not talking about hacking the game. This was intentional by the creators). Also you can affect how many parties fight Bizarro Sephiroth based on what you do prior to the battle.

So what do you have to do (or not do) in order to modify these bosses' stats - prior to battle?

Also, what do you have to do (or not do) in order to change how many parties fight Bizarro Sephiroth?

I'm counting this question in terms of points, so there are 15 points possible. If anyone achieves 8 or more points, they will be rewarded the next question. 2nd place gets this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IxAKFlpdcfc).

JohnnyMercyside
04-18-2011, 10:03 AM
I don't know the official formula, but it's something like your average party being below level 50 for 3 characters, your average party between 50 and 60 (I think) for 2 sets of 3 characters, and 60+ for 3 sets of characters.

This is excluding Aerith and it only includes Vincent and Yuffie if you aquired them in your party.

I'm not doing all the official rules but that should get me at least one point! ;)

Ah yes, nice hint, if you defeat the head as well as the dody it chips some health off Safer Sephiroth.

And another thing your revealed answers remind me of is that if you have one of either Vincent or Yuffie you can't get 3 parties, you have a maximum of two. And if you have neither you can't get more than 1 party.

Enkidoh
04-20-2011, 04:12 AM
The only thing I heard in regards to that was how many parties you use to fight Bizzaro Sephiroth is based on how quickly it takes you to defeat Jenova SYNTHESIS - the faster the battle the more parties you have to defeat Bizzaro (meaning the slower you go the easier the next battle is).

I presume level also has something to do with it too but I'm not sure.

Actually, I'm pretty sure when I played a low level game (only fighting bosses/set battles) I only got one party. Well then, I have no idea who you're thinking of because Zack was the only one mentioned as having been born and raised in Gongaga in the original game - Cloud and Tifa were both from Nibelheim (Vincent also resided here too during his time with the Jenova Project, but his hometown was never mentioned), Aeris from Icicle Inn (although raised elsewhere), Barret was from Corel, Red XIII from Cosmo Canyon, and Yuffie from Wutai.

This is based purely on the original game - information from the Compilation doesn't count in this thread.

Uh, I don't know where you got that information from 7alentine but Cloud has always been stated in all official Square propaganda, Compilation titles and the original FFVII as having been born and raised in Nibelheim - he grew up living next door to Tifa after all. If you still doubt this, this is Cloud's official history which clearly states he was born in Nibelheim: http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Cloud_Strife

great question.

here's my guess...

shadow flare, chocobuckle, and pandora's box

Actually... Shadow Flare has appeared in earlier FF's.

In FFIII it was a Geomancer ability, which appeared randomly in caves/dungeons.

In FFV, mix two Dark Matters together.

In FFVII, of course it was a Enemy Skill.

In FFVIII and XI it's known as Dark Flare.

Chocobuckle also appears in FFVIII, though it's only available via completing Chocobo World via the PocketStation.

I know that Pandora's Box, L4 Suicide, Magic Breath and Beta are unique to FFVII alone...

Agent0042

That's the Gelnika - Shinra's heavy transport plane.

Meltigemini
05-09-2011, 08:17 PM
I think the inventory limit is 500 and you could have 16 x 8 equipped at any one time so 628?

(I don't think it's possible to get 8-slot armour or weapons on disc 1 so you can't equip any more when Aeris is alive)

Enkidoh
05-09-2011, 11:36 PM
Actually, both the Four Slots and Edincoat have eight materia slots and can both be gained in disc 1 (Four Slots you can find while still in Midgar for one thing), plus most characters have weapons with eight slots on them that can be gained in disc 1 too so the 'no more materia' for when Aeris is alive statement isn't really correct.

But I'm too lazy to check it.

I'll let someone else take a question, but just wanted to refer to the point above - I may be wrong but I think Edincoat only has seven slots, and the Four Slots definitely has... four slots. =\

Even if both were to actually have eight, you couldn't have 9 x 8 armours with eight slots, so you still couldn't equip as much materia on disc 1 with nine characters as you can on disc 2 with eight.

Looks like I was completely wrong anyway so never mind. ;o

What is the last boss you fight before being able to obtain the Aqualung enemy skill?

Enkidoh
05-19-2011, 10:02 AM
Technically it would be Demon's Gate at the Temple of the Ancients, however, I guess you could always hold off the Wutai sub-quest with Yuffie til then, in which case it would be Rapps.

But as far as the storyline is concerned, the last boss you fight prior to the Jenova LIFE battle is Demon's Gate.

7alentine
05-19-2011, 10:16 AM
aah yes, but is that the first enemy to use Aqualung? ;)
no... it isnt.

Doh! You're right, silly me forgot you can first learn it from Harpies on the quicksand surrounding Gold Saucer and the Corel Prison on the world map (but only in the buggy). :p

So I guess then Dyne would be the last boss you'd fight before you can first access that area in that manner to learn Aqualung. :)

At the very beginning of the game, after Jessie opens the gateway in Sector 1 to the bridge leading to the Number 1 Reactor, there is an overhead sign in the service area beyond the gate that flashes several messages when Cloud runs through the area - what are the three things the sign displays?

Thanks Enkidoh:)

Let's say that you are using a cheat that eliminates all the battles in game (no random encounters and no boss battles). When will you get stuck and unable to proceed with the plot, unless you turn it off?

Enkidoh
06-11-2011, 07:07 PM
It would freeze the game up within the first ten seconds of the start of the game, as the player is thrown into an automatic (and easy) battle against two MPs right after the opening FMV as soon as Cloud moves forward on the platform.

JohnnyMercyside
06-13-2011, 03:42 PM

Yep, as JohnnyMercyside said;) Sorry I didn't word it good enough.

JohnnyMercyside
06-15-2011, 09:34 AM
I really don't know to be honest... assuming all battles are void (therefore winning each forced battle by default) and playing the game as normal, I can't really see a moment where the game will be able to stop. Unless we're talking about something like Fort Condor or something like that.

Enkidoh
06-15-2011, 07:03 PM
Hmmm, then following that idea the only one I can think of is that it would probably muck up the Battle Arena at Gold Saucer - namely, when you have to fight there to get the Keystone in disc 1. Bypassing the battles would probably cause the game to hang as the program is waiting for an instruction that will never come.

Other than that, I have no idea.

Szczepan
06-18-2011, 01:22 PM
Interesting ideas you have here, but that's still not it. Ok, time for some hints:) That moment happens on 2nd CD and does NOT happen because game freezing or hanging on a certain point. It's just a time, when you have to enter into a random encounter to proceed to another location.

Enkidoh
06-19-2011, 08:02 AM
I just realized it would make getting Yuffie impossible for one thing, as you naturally have to get into a random battle to fight her in order to recruit her.

But you can do that at any time in the game, even disc 1, so I don't think that's what you're after (such a cheat wouldn't crash the game in that regard, only rendering it impossible to gain Yuffie).

The only other thing I can think of is at the Corel Reactor, where as Cid you have to fight two Shinra Attack Squad troopers before Cid can jump onto the locomotive to chase down the coal train carrying the Huge Materia - as the battle is initiated by speaking to the soldiers guarding the reactor, skipping battles would effectively cancel this out - making the troopers remain on the map and hence blocking your forward progress.

Szczepan
06-20-2011, 01:48 PM
That's still not it;) Ok one last hint - it happens before waking up as Tifa in Junon. If nobody will get it till tomorrow, I am giving it to Enkidoh for having interesting ideas and trying hard ;)

Enkidoh
06-20-2011, 04:20 PM
Hmmm, I did think it could be the Jenova DEATH fight in Whirlwind Maze, but I couldn't remember if it jumped to a cutscene following the end of the battle or just continued on the normal field map, so I didn't mention it. Other than that, I have absolutely no idea.

when you jump through those wind barriers and hit the gush of wind, you are forced to fight Wind Wing.

Szczepan
06-21-2011, 05:54 PM
Ok it's time to reveal the answer:) Do you guys remember the giant icicles in Gaea's Cliff, not long before Schizo? You had to battle them to make them fall and make way to another location:) When you were getting close to them, the random battle occured with them and some bats, but with "no battles" cheat it is impossible to initiate this battle and make them fall. If you can't make them fall, you are stuck.

Ok, as I've said earlier, next question goes to Enkidoh.

Enkidoh
06-22-2011, 06:19 AM
Doh! That's right, I remember them now - I'd completely forgotten you had to actually 'fight' those in battle to make them fall. Good question Szczepan. :)

Besides Shinra soldiers, various mechanical weaponry and Rufus, who is the only other Shinra employee to use a gun in battle?

JohnnyMercyside
06-22-2011, 11:45 PM
Palmer?

Enkidoh
06-23-2011, 09:52 AM
Palmer is correct! He uses a 'Mako Gun' which basically just fires magical attacks at you.

It's odd how the Turks don't use guns in battle, instead preferring hand-to-hand attacks. But I digress.

Your go Johnny. :)

JohnnyMercyside
06-23-2011, 02:03 PM
My first thought was Reno but of course, he uses a rod so it couldn't have been. Good question :)

What does the acronym PHS stand for?

Enkidoh
06-23-2011, 06:11 PM
Party Hensei System - apparently 'hensei' means 'changing', so basically it means 'Party Changing System'. In any event, it's a mobile or cellular phone, hence the ringtone when you use it.

I read many years ago that the PHS was an actual real type of phone then available in Japan, but that might have just been hearsay by gullible fans.

You probably remember Mukki, a muscular man with moustache and also Cloud's close friend since the Honeybee Inn incident ;) You can also meet him in two other places after escape from Midgar. One of them being Costa del Sol and another...

That is my question. Where is the another place where you can meet Mukki and why is he there? :)

Enkidoh
06-25-2011, 05:53 PM
Isn't he found drinking at the bar in Costa del Sol? If I remember rightly, he mentions during the scene with him in the Honeybee Inn that he's planning on taking a trip to a 'cabin out in the country', so I guess that's where he was planning on going to.

I know, you gotta love those character sprites not changing, reminds me of Luly being "pregnant" in FFX-2 :D

Question - There are three characters with physical disfigurements in the game. Who are they and what part of the body parts are disfigured?

Enkidoh
06-25-2011, 10:28 PM
Well, Red XIII is missing an eye and has a prominent scar across his face, and Barrett and Dyne both lost their lower arms to a Shinra soldier's rifle fire, grafting guns to them (Barret lost his right arm, while Dyne lost his left).

Technically Tifa should have a big scar across her abdomen as well (where Sephiroth slashed her), but she doesn't for some reason. ;)

Enkidoh

Stop me if this has been asked:

Which character can you go on a date with during the scripted Gold Saucer event and How do you get the "secret" two?

Meltigemini
07-03-2011, 12:10 PM
Aeris, Tifa, Yuffie or Barret.

The game's set up so that you're most likely to get Aeris but if you keep treating her badly (call her slum drunk etc) your compatibility with her falls and you're more likely to get Tifa. Again though you can raise your compatibility with Barret through things like saying his snoring kept you up. Also choosing not to take Aeris or Tifa with you when you have a choice of party (and saying no to them) will lower compatibility with both to the point where you will get Yuffie as the date. If you haven't found Yuffie yet then you will get Barret.

There's a lot more that goes in the background but basically it's all about compatibility and the worse you treat Aeris and Tifa the more likely you are to get Yuffie or Barret.

What is the fifth place you MUST visit after leaving Midgar? So that means Fort Condor doesn't count, or other areas you can avoid.

Withope
07-11-2011, 09:07 AM
The ship

Enkidoh
07-11-2011, 11:50 AM
I think it would be Costa del Sol, as technically the Chocobo Ranch is optional, as it is possible to run across the marshlands on foot and beat the Midgard Zolom (or fight and defeat it) without relying on a chocobo (which I infact have actually done).

Of course if you count Junon as two separate towns (the village and the Shinra base) then the Cargo Ship would indeed be the fifth area.

But I prefer the former answer. ;)

JohnnyMercyside
07-11-2011, 01:55 PM
Enkidoh is right with Costa del Sol, the order goes like this (with the italics being avoidable areas):

Kalm - Chocobo Ranch - Mythril Mines - Fort Condor - Junon - Cargo Ship - Costa del Sol

Enkidoh
07-11-2011, 05:30 PM
Besides the Chocobo Races, where is the only place in the game where you can find a (non-battle/ride-able) white chocobo?

JohnnyMercyside

Mideel isn't it? A baby chocobo?

Enkidoh
07-12-2011, 02:47 AM

JohnnyMercyside

What enemy uses a move called Aurora Fence and what does it do?

Darth Revan
07-13-2011, 04:24 PM
It's used by Bizarro Sephiroth. IIRC, it can revive and restore HP on opponents. Has a interesting effect that it misses targets who aren't ko'd, but removes their status effects... I think.

JohnnyMercyside
07-13-2011, 05:19 PM
Yeah, it's a weird one you're right. Your go Revan. :)

Darth Revan
07-14-2011, 12:19 AM
Ok, following in the same vein as JohnnyMercyside's question... Combo is a four stage hit attack. The second, third and fourth attacks 'may' incur a status effect. What are those status effects and which enemy uses this?

Meltigemini
07-16-2011, 01:04 PM
The enemy is Lifeform Hojo, the statuses I'm not so sure about but I'm thinking poison, sleep and confuse...

Darth Revan
07-16-2011, 02:12 PM
The Status effects are: the Second attack may inflict Poison; the Third attack may inflict Darkness and the Fourth attack may inflict Sleep. The enemy which uses this ability is indeed Lifeform-Hojo N. For getting the name of the enemy and two of the negative status effects, the next question is yours Meltigemini.

Meltigemini
07-17-2011, 09:06 AM
Carrying on with this theme, name two enemies which can use the Blaster attack.

Enkidoh
07-17-2011, 10:25 AM
Well, I know Blaster is a traditional ability of courel-type enemies throughout the series, so I'm going to say the Cuahl which is their badly mistranslated name in FFVII. Other than that, I don't know - maybe one of the Weapons?

Um, that question you answered Shadowboxer is so far in the past the original poster basically abandoned it, so it's no longer relevant - the actual question which is current I posted my answer for, which I was awaiting confirmation from the original poster (Meltigemini).

I don't mean to sound harsh, but try to keep to the rules of the thread (namely, wait for confirmation from the previous question's poster before posting your own question, unless a long time has passed and the original poster has since disappeared). Also, only post one question at a time - this isn't an examination of FFVII Trivia. :P
