I'm not listening to it through WinAMP. I'm listening to it through GoldWave because I need that music to edit into the Star Wars soundtracks.
ahh... it's working in Windows Media Player, so I can record what I need to into GoldWave, or open it in Audacity and re-output it into WAV.

STATUS REPORT
Some time has passed and I'm pretty busy with my diploma right now, so progressions will be slow till end of April. Just to warn you.
- Ghost Recon: Advancedd Warfighter -
As already confirmed by Kataah, this rip is extremely time consuming because the segments don't follow any sane pattern. I'll have to guess which one belongs where. I've decided to rip this game in the background and open a gate again. OrangeC is ok with this. Will need at least two more months for the rip.

Hey Alpha,
Not sure if it is possible for you to rip, but I wanted to request content from the new Resident Evil 5 DLC... songs from "Lost in Nightmares", "Desperate Escape", and "Mercenaries Reunion"...
I know JBTND already got his request in, but I wanted to inquire if it was possible for you to do so (computer application tools-wise, I mean).
Thanks.
Edit: I read one of your stipulations from the first post that you only take "western" composers... not sure if my request meets this stipulation... but I guess I'll let you be the judge of that.

UPDATE
Finally finished! This took me so long because the score had plenty of duplicates I had to search and delete, which was extremely tedious. Especially for the movie sequences, which sometimes fade into the middle of some track. But in the end I found three tracks that were apparently cutscene-exclusives.
I decided to split the rip in two parts: The Expanded XBox 360 Score and the Radio Stations. I didn't leave the single stations in whole but split them to search through tracks. You'll need a gapless player (like Winamp) for them.
Once again, this should be the most complete rip out there. =)
These are the bonus tracks I ripped, edited and included:
intro music without SFX (edited from the Credits)
two unused tracks from the official soundtrack
an early demo cue from the teaser trailer
five other trailers
"Runnin' Wild" by Airborne (the song from the 'Run Wild' trailer)

Hi,
Thanks for Bad Company! It's got great music.
I was wondering, why is it that 80% of your mp3s are 24khz? Either the ones on Xbox are that poor, or the PS3 version is a lot better. I know for a fact that all the music in the PS3 version sounds great on my standard TV.
I know for a fact, Bad Company 2 is at 48khz. I'm sure this game is also.

Wrote myself a little BMS script that splits the layers. After adding a stop marker at the end, those interleaved VAG files can finally be decoded with MFAudio
set INTERLEAVE 0x1000
set JUMP INTERLEAVE
math JUMP *= 2
get FILESIZE asize
append
set OFFSET1 0x800
for i = 1
set WTEST OFFSET1
math WTEST += INTERLEAVE
if WTEST <= FILESIZE
log MEMORY_FILE OFFSET1 INTERLEAVE
math OFFSET1 += JUMP
else
if OFFSET1 < FILESIZE
set WSIZE FILESIZE
math WSIZE -= OFFSET1
log MEMORY_FILE OFFSET1 WSIZE
endif
break
endif
next i
append
set OFFSET2 0x800
math OFFSET2 += INTERLEAVE
for i = 1
set WTEST OFFSET2
math WTEST += INTERLEAVE
if WTEST <= FILESIZE
append
log MEMORY_FILE2 OFFSET2 INTERLEAVE
append
math OFFSET2 += JUMP
else
if OFFSET2 < FILESIZE
set WSIZE FILESIZE
math WSIZE -= OFFSET2
append
log MEMORY_FILE2 OFFSET2 WSIZE
append
endif
break
endif
next i
get NAME1 basename
string NAME1 += "-layer1.vag"
get SIZE1 asize MEMORY_FILE
log NAME1 0 SIZE1 MEMORY_FILE
get NAME2 basename
string NAME2 += "-layer2.vag"
get SIZE2 asize MEMORY_FILE2
log NAME2 0 SIZE2 MEMORY_FILE2
This script extracts 2 VAGs out of each Gamecube ZSS too. But as they aren`t recognized in ADPCM players and vgmstream I guess I have to add 00077777777777777777777777777777 into their ends too...
OrangeC
04-11-2010, 07:46 PM

Mind that you'll maybe need to adjust the interleave for MUA2. The script has some problems with the last block but the music is playable. Of course it's not stae-of-the-art coding and it's extremely slow but it works... Remember to put a 0x00077777777777777777777777777777 at the end of the files for MFAudio.

As long as I can I hear it. Same thing for the combat music too (Which, I absolutely can't wait for because the combat music is the best. Alright I've recently downloaded and listened to NFS5 Compilation rip. Man, it's great! Quality is just great! Oh my god, these tracks from PC make me happy!! I asked you to include PSOne track because I didn't hear them in my game (you know those damn 5 in 1 compilations =) ) but I had heard from many sources that the soundtrack is different from the PC version. And you know what? It's nothing but a big disappointment. The only thing I want to do when tracks by Thomas Colin & Manuel Lauvernier start playing is to skip'em all. Sad, but true. Piece of crap which just don't suite the game setting at all!!! And what is more sadder is that PSOne tracks quality is MUCH more better than the brilliant ost from pc version! F***ing EA!! So I give 6\10 for the music (thanks to the crap from Thomas Colin & Manuel Lauvernier, but delete it and you'll get 9\10 xD) and 10\10 for the rip quality. Really great one! The best I've seen so far. Great work indeed, Alpha! And thanks again! ;-)

Alot of it is unreleased Attack of the Clones material, which is even more odd considering that some of this material doesn't even appear in the film, something that hasn't occured since (all subseuqent games use the film mix of Episode II's music) - it even appears in the promo OST too. As for Soule's music, there is definitely quite a bit. But I can't recall which music that is.

Its amazing how much they left out of the OST.
Just a side note, 158 - Music_Combat_Heavy_06 ~ mix.mp3 is "Chaos Eater" just with a intro and a different ending.
178 - Music_Action_09_Main.mp3 is "Keeping Pace"

Question: I'll have a request when the gates will be open, but I don't know if the music of this game was composed by a western or eastern composer (I'm French and don't even know the difference)... how do I know this information / where can I find it? In case you know him and directly have the answer, the game is Spider-Man (2000, released on PSX, PC, N64 and DC) and I believe to remember the name of the composer was Tommy Tallarico, do you know him?

please can you try to do a complete score rip for MEN OF VALOR? The music is by Inon Zur, some in ogg 48, some in .sab format. You will notice one sab archive, as well as additional individual tracks in sab, possibly interleaved, as some play in intermittent chunks over other background sound. Maybe you can decode these? There is also track info in corresponding .sob text files. So this is a job worthy of IRD.

As I said I don't care if a game has already been ripped or not as I want to make sure no tracks are missed. And in case of OrangeC's BF:BC2 rip - that's only the Xbox 360 version, so there's plenty of room for better quality or additional tracks in the PC version.
Would it be possible, if it's not much to ask, for you to rip the loading themes of multiplayer with FX?

I've changed my overall ripping style thus only saving the unedited original files to speed up the procedure by several hundred percent
Surely it will but will this actually be ripping? Some games don`t even have their files packed (for example a folder titled "music" with RWS inside) so all your job here is to download the game, then copy and upload original files. Surely that sounds like a great favor for people like me who download games (I have ripped only 1 Xbox-360 game because ISOs 7 GBs each seem too time-consuming for me while I`m able to download one such image a month at speed up to 1MB/s) but your wish to speed things up can also lead to the following (this possible flaw applies even more to your streamed thread as I don`t know if you check out whether every source file pack is convertible with specific tools you recommend or not):
You know that HCS team which uploads
only the unedited original files
and such ripping style sometimes results in ridiculous cases when some sets uploaded months ago cannot be converted even with the latest vgmstream version! I came across a few of these myself.
Also while
original format OR TAK compressed (
http://www.thbeck.de/Tak/Tak.html) wave files (whichever is smaller in size)
(all others who complained about OGG in your collaborative thread will be able to convert from lossless to any lossy format they prefer without a necessity to convert from lossy OGG –q10 to another lossy format)
no looping
(need in different number of loops of one track for different persons was expressed in DoDoRay9000`s thread too)
no segment combining
(ingame interactive cues can play in any order without loss of feel of coherent music so that you need to give people an opportunity to combine the 1st segment with 2 loops of the 5th and to end this "track" with the 7th. Your rip with segments combined according to your taste can simply lack the mentioned "track"! Or some people would even save these short cues as individual tracks and simply change playing order in their players so that they resurrect truly interactive music as it is in the game)
are OK for me I think that many casual visitors would find this too labor-intensive for them. Many folks complained about your OGG standard back in VGM legacy thread but I don`t remember many complaining about quality which includes looping, fadings, numbering and so on. Some people can say: "I asked you because I know that your rip will have looping, fadings, numbering and
quality what VGM legacy stands for
but you force me to do nearly all the work myself!"
It remains the fact that while Killy was arguing with Kataah whether converting MP3 to OGG is bad or not and editing files is needed his unedited Clive Barker`s Jericho rip was downloaded lesser times than Kataah`s edited one.

That makes plenty sense for those like myself who want to attempt their own rip, based on your research. That would be fantastic, Alpha.
As for looping, I like to use an editor to create a reverb at the end of the cutoff point of a loop track by first smoothing the end, then adding 5 to 10 seconds of silence, then making the reverb. This creates a smoother close than having to deal with a fake dial-down fade. Of course it must work together with the structure of the loop and if there is enough musical body in the track.

I`d like to ask the last question: there`re some (I`ve seen just three of them in my life but there may be more) games without interactive music but with tracks artificially divided into parts. For example in Halo - Combat evolved every track consists of 15-sec snippets (but they all play in specific and invariable order, that`s why I don`t call it interactive music). HL2E2 developers have gone further, these snippets are as tiny as 1- or 2-sec!
So if you make a streamed rip of such game will you leave everything as it is (HCS team made its own version of Halo music rip (
http://www.hcs64.com/manakoAT/vgm_db/roms.php?system=13&set=1120) and it actually resulted in 674 files) even if there`re thousands of MP3s like in HL2E2?

alpha,
regarding your textfile of the tracknames for MEN OF VALOR music.sab, did you just rename the .sob textfile or did you make the list of tracks more readable, iow without all the code gibberish inbetween? I managed to use TOWAV on the archive to extract all the files, but I want to try to match up the tracks with the wavs. It is possible that they fall in the same order as the packed data. The ones that are only 5Kb in size represent the oggs, maybe.

I won't lose this time!
Say, could you do a full rip of Namco Museum Battle Collection?
The Menu Themes, everything!
That would be awesome!

Is the gate still open?
If so, may I request for you to rip Syphon Filter: The Omega Strain?

Now I have a better request, but Ol' Chap Gerbur most likely got the spot...

Hoho!!
Thanks, Alpha23!
The game I'm looking at is Gran Turismo for the SONY PlayStation.
The game has both Western and Eastern composers after I took a quick look. Since Alpha23 said 'Western Composers only,' I'm only interested in the Western tunes.
Is this ok?

Wow, that's a damn short request! I'll see what I can do... Next time please write at least a whole sentence - it just sounds nicer. ;)
At least get me download links for all platforms!
Oh, sorry. No disrespect intended. I just was just trying to be meek with the request since I know it's a lot of work, and a lot of people don't seem to appreciate that fact.
And download links? You mean for ISOs? I'll see what I can do.

I already linked to the vgmstream sourcefourge page (the link behind the format). Use that and Winamp's DiscWriter plugin to convert the files.
I'll always link to the appropriate conversion program with the format in the release post.
OHHHHH...
I didn't know that's what that vgmstream whatchmacallit was for...
Well, after diving deep into the channels of the Search Engine 'Bing,' I finally struck gold...well, platinum and titanium in this case!
XA files can be converted with Foobar2000!!!

Hey Alpha.
I might start to sound annoying now but if the gate is still open, can you make a streamed rip of Syphon Filter: Logan's Shadow for the PS2 (
http://www.amazon.com/Syphon-Filter-Logans-Shadow-Playstation-2/dp/B003L5AR5E)?
If you rip this, then you won't need to rip the PSP version as they are exactly the same game.
