Since the old one is off the front page and was long and convoluted anyway. My anticipation for this game grows every day.
Who are you expecting to play the most, at least at first? I'm not assuming anything before I've had a chance to try everybody but the characters I think I'm most likely to spend a lot of time with:
Wolf
Dedede
Falco
Kirby
Lucario
Metaknight
From what I've seen I have a feeling Wolf is going to be my favorite character by far. He seems to be the closest in some ways to Melee Falco, who was easily my favorite in that game.
Characters I know for a fact I definitely will not ever play as, ever, as long as the earth turns:
Sonic
Snake
Sonic the Hedgehog
Yoshi
Ice Climbers
Game & Watch
Diddy Kong
Sonic
I hate Sonic. Everyone who hates Sonic, say so. If you don't hate Sonic and you say so I will beat you with Wolf when the game comes out. The first thing I am likely to do after unlocking Wolf is go into training, set the CPU to Sonic, and beat him up a lot. I am thinking Wolf may actually smash him so hard, he will be thrown out of the game.
Also, I don't know how many people here read Penny Arcade, they really aren't very funny these days. The funniest thing they've done in a good long while is insinuate that Pikachu was a really good character in Melee.
I'm just as excited about it as anyone. I'll probably finish paying off my pre-order Friday.
Anyway, I usually spend time getting familiar with all the characters in these games and there's no reason to think I'll do otherwise this time, even if I do find some of the characters a bit lacking.
I'm honestly fairly indifferent to Sonic, TK, although I can't see myself using him often. Snake looks like a huge pile of lame though. I imagine I'll do to him what you plan on doing to Sonic.
The characters I'll probably use most are:
Jigglypuff
Ice Climbers
Samus
Pit
Captain Olimar
Lucario
Luigi
I get really annoyed with clone characters, so I probably won't use any of the Starfox characters often. The same goes for Ganondorf and Lucas.
Am I the only person who just can't understand why Mewtwo would get the axe? It was never one of my favorite characters, but at least it had a unique moveset.
My guess is it was to make room for Lucario. Or maybe he was just such a mess nobody felt like trying to fix him.
Also, not sure if you know yet, but Wolf is very very de-cloned. He is vaguely similar to Fox but his moves are quite different, including his normals. He still has the blaster, reflector, and similar up B, but pretty much all his other moves do totally different stuff. His F and Dsmashes, in particular, are different from, and vastly superior to Fox's or Falco's.
Also: I will beat you up with Wolf when the game comes out.
Everything I've read about Wolf says he has exactly the same moveset, just slower and more powerful. Of course, I haven't been hands-on with it yet, so I'm not going to make claims.
Also: I will make Wolf my bitch.

I know, that's what was said at first, but it's been proven untrue both by <a href=

http://smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=139967>oodles of video footage</a>. Pretty awesome stuff. Also, "slower and more powerful" is pretty misleading; it makes it sound like he falls into the Bowser/Dedede realm of things whereas in fact he is quite fast.

God it is only 2 weeks away. As for the characters I will play it all depends. For the original SSB I played Pikachu and was pretty damn good with him. Once melee came out I played Marth and Link as my main characters. I haven't quite decided who my main character will be for Brawl but I have been looking at the Pokemon Trainer and that sounds like a blast.
The ones that look the most amusing to play are:
Poke Trainer
Link
Ike (if he is similar to Marth)
J. Peterman

From what I've seen I have a feeling Sonic is going to be my favorite character by far. He seems to be the closest in some ways to Melee Doctor Mario, who was easily my favorite in that game.
Characters I know for a fact I definitely will not ever play as, ever, as long as the earth turns:

I preordered at a gamestop (screw you, it's the closest gaming store to me at only a 10 minute walk), so I'm looking forward to the tournament/midnight release. I think I might have somewhat of a shot of winning the tournament, and supposedly the winner gets their copy for free so that's pretty cool. I couldn't care less about the regional/national parts of the competition though because I have no time for those and I will lose at them. :p
For the tournament, I'm trying to decide if I want to be a dick and spam down smash and stuff with Pikachu (since it's apparently the new Peach down smash?) or pick up new characters and try my luck. I'm leaning towards the latter, since it probably won't be filled with total noobs who are more likely to have trouble with a down-smash strategy, but we'll see I GUESS.
The newcomers I'm looking at for that are Dedede, Ike, Pokemon Trainer, Meta Knight, and Diddy... probalby leaning towards the last two since the seem the easier ones to pick up. But Dedede's chainthrow seems like good stuff. I'm assuming the tournament won't have the final roster unlocked, of course...
ON TO THE ACTUAL GAME
I'll probably use the following characters regularly:
Mario
Luigi
Peach
Bowser
Link
Gannondorf
Zelda and Sheik
Toon Link
Lucario
Jigglypuff
Pikachu
Pokemon Trainer (all 3)
Pikmin&Olimar
Snake
Sonic
Diddy Kong
Donkey Kong
King Dedede
Meta Knight
Kirby
Yoshi
Wario
Game and Watch
ROB
Falco
Fox
Wolf
Ice Climbers
Samus and Zero Suit Samus
Pit
Captain Falcon
Marth
Ike
Ness
Lucas
Actually that's just a smartass way of saying I'll play Random 99% of the time but I thought it'd be funnier that way but looking back it really wasn't worth the effort oh well.
In melee I randomed all the time and my best characters were Marth, Gannondorf, Ice Climbers, Luigi, Sheik, Doctor Mario, and Pikachu... and like everyone except Mewtwo and maybe Zelda and lately Bowser are right up there as second best.
D:
I don't like Sonic all that much but I think he's a good addition to the game.
I hate Snake, though. I mean as a character he's alright but there are least 100 better 3rd party characters to add over him and I definitley don't think he should've been included. :/

Does anyone else notice that Dedede's laugh at the end of his final smash sounds eerily like Kefka's?
Just a thought...
I was thinking I might stop by for the Gamestop tourney as well. I won't be at all surprised if there are people around here much better at the game than me, but I might get lucky and be in an area without any really hardcore players (and if I do, I'd probably find it fun to lose to them anyway, provided they aren't snobs). I was never very good as I never had the drive to study the advanced techniques in Melee, but since a lot of them don't exist in Brawl I might have a shot at it. I'm not sure who I'd use though. My main in Melee was Falco, and my second best was Marth, so if Marth isn't unlocked for the tourney I'll be rather out of luck for anything very familiar (Falco's pretty different).
But yeah, I'm not really worried about it anyway since I would not have any interest in going on to the later rounds. It would be a big waste of time and money since I'd have no shot at winning.

This match shows off how insane Dedede is. Fantastic edge guarding, tons of power, some of the best recovery in the game with a character who's already hard to KO, and longass chain throws. People are already screaming top tier for him. I think the developer has to have messed up on this one, there's no way they intended to make him that good.

He's not a bad player really, he had some pretty good moments especially when he was smacking Wolf while getting back on the ledge. Ike is just a really bad matchup for Wolf, he has a really hard time approaching. That's why he was doing so much fair and fsmash.
But yeah, it's definitely one sided and I only like it because it shows off Wolf when he's shining.

Well yes, it is indeed possible to KO King Dededede, so he will sometimes struggle to get back on the stage. But whose recovery is better? I can only think of a couple, like Pit, but Pit is easier to KO than Dedede. He easily in the top when it comes to hard to KO.

I don't know, I've seen Ike take on fast characters, just gotta use the right moves. =P
You sir, are biased!

Sonic's recovery is actually damn good. When played right he has an extra jump back to the stage. Plus his uB is frickin awesome since he can attack after.
Snake's uB is horrible, imo. Half the time I see it used he gets caught under the stage. ;_;
Other character's recoveries seem to be average when combining their secondary jump and uB distance.
I won't disagree with you about Dedede being one of the hardest to KO, hell he was made that way. That heavy fuck...
The trick with Dedede I've seen is knock him to the side and down, his inflate jump doesn't get too much height and his uB looks like a bitch to DI (much like Ike's actually...)
That's my take on random recoveries. >.>
It's not about fast. I'm not even sure what you mean by fast because Wolf is definitely fast when it comes to the speed his attacks come out but he is not especially fast when it comes to his dashing speed. The main reason why Ike is a bad matchup against him is, as I said, Ike has a terrible time trying to approach him. Watch the video again and notice Wolf's distance game, especially with his Fsmash and his lasers. If Ike tries to approach, Wolf can laser spam him and threaten to Fsmash while he is still completely out of range of any of Ike's attacks.
Wolf is definitely a contender for top tier, but so is Ike, and neither of them are clear-cut cases. There are a lot of contenders for top tier right now. I don't think Wolf is godly by any means, he's got his fair share of weaknesses. But it is agreed by pretty much everyone who is playing the game right now that Ike is a bad matchup against Wolf. It doesn't really mean anything about Wolf's overall status.

Edit: I watched the video again, twice. I also watched other fights between them to see if the Ike player just had a bad run. My view still stands that the Ike player sucks. Look up the Wolf and Ike battle with Zjiin and Daddy and there's a better fight.

Yes it is enough. Mewtwo and Lucario have one move in common and it isn't even that similar - Lucario's Aura Sphere seems miles better than Shadow Ball was.
The rest of their movesets are completley different and if you looked at any gameplay footage of Lucario you would see that.

As far as I know it's decent at best. I'm just guessing all those people who think it's awful have no rhythm or don't know that they have to hit buttons in time with the final smash.
Peach's could also be okay if you have items turned on and get a home run bat... it seems it's definitley the most situational FS since you don't want to use it unless you have pretty high damage.

Diddy's is pretty tricky to control by the looks of things. People seem to end up flying under the level and find it difficult to recover. DK's is pretty good if you catch your opponents close by. Peach's makes your opponents quite vunerable so it's usefull enough.
All in all, no ones final smash seems to suck hard, aslong as you know the best way to use them.

the first few videos are unremarkable, but the Kirby ones are pretty awesome, if only to see Kirby kicking some ass. He definitely seems to be improved since Melee, which is a huge relief to me. thats great news for kirby. even though i played well with him on melee, alot of people considered him a joke character; because he did seem watered down. now lets hope that the cpu ai doesn't play stupid with him and give him A BAD name ......again. BUT ON ANOTHER NOTE gamestops will be offering brawl at a price of 9.99 with the trade in of two select wii games;
ONLY $9.99 i am going to trade in metroid and dbz!!!!!
I'm pretty sure people didn't regard Kirby in Melee as a joke character because he was poorly controlled by the AI.

Yeah, but I don't have a car and this one is like a 5 minute walk from me (it's on campus) and is also the one I preordered at, so I wouldn't want to have to leave the other location to get back here at midnight to pick it up.

I'm up working on a paper now because I spent most of the night playing matches against my roommate.
I've gotten used to the new feel of this one, although I initially didn't like it, being a melee whore. I wasn't really happy with the disappearance of wave dashing or l-cancelling, but they made some other additions that I think counterbalance these (perfect shielding [think parrying from SF:3S] and the ability to shield mid-run primarily). I'm not sure how I think about the buffering system that makes you turn around when you land if you pushed back in mid-air. It's not hard to compensate for it once you know it's there and it does give you the ability to land facing either way now, but the previous system felt more natural (this is keeping in mind that the best explanation offered for this change was to compensate for lag online). I know i've seen people dash dance, but I can't do it for the life of me. Oh, and tripping sucks. On the whole though, the additional characters, items, and sheer amount of content make this game pretty addicting in a soul-crushing way.
Wattson: I posted my friend code a little earlier in the thread if you want to play some time.
TK: I'm a little behind on unlocking characters, I think. I've only unlocked Captain Falcon (sadly not as good), Marth, and Ness. My girlfriend is visiting her mom this week and I have less work so, I should be caught up soon.

Fo' sho'.
I think your reactions to the game are pretty much the same as mine. The big thing I miss is dash jump cancelling, since I learned it about 2 weeks ago in melee and it became a big part of my gameplay. Oh well.
I managed to dashdance as squirtle today. It required going about 4 times as fast as dashdancing in melee, but I went for a good 5-10 seconds without tripping at all. Not very practical though and it really is uncomfortable to shake that control stick back and forth so fast.
Oh yeah, and perfect shielding was in melee; it was harder to do but a successful one against a projectile (items etc.) reflected it. Level 9 CPUs in that game had inhuman timing and could do it all the fucking time, though.
I'm starting to really like how easy it is to grab items in this game. I grabbed a pokeball thrown at me while I was in the air today and thought that was pretty dang sweet - even better than reflecting it to steal the pokemon like you could in melee.

You're thinking of power-shielding (at the right time), I think. Perfect shielding is when you shield right before an attack (this is most useful against physical attacks). Your shield turns blue and it makes a different noise if i'm not mistaken. When done correctly, this basically takes away what little lag time is left from shielding and the knockback. For example, if i'm smash attacked and I shield it normally, I'll be pushed back from the hit-stun. If, however, I perfect-shield, i'll be able to drop the shield and attack almost instantly before the opponet has recovered from the move's lag-time.
I could be wrong, but this is what I read at the dojo. I've also seen videos of people doing it. If this particular technique was in melee, i've never come across it. =/

In general I dislike techniques that require as much technical precision as wave dashing and l-cancelling. It's not that I'm not willing to put the time in to learn them if I really want to, it's just that it's a pain in the ass and I'd prefer that time practicing the game was spent on strategies and stuff. But more than that, my favorite thing about Smash is how it is so simple and yet so deep, and I think the fewer insane techniques there are to learn, the more that is the case. So yeah, I'm pretty happy that they are gone to be honest. I might try to seriously compete at this game if I think I can get good enough and it will be nice not to have to bother with those.
My brother and I literally played subspace emissary all night last night. That thing is a pain in the effing ass. I mean, it is awesome, but I really wish that there were quicker ways to unlock stuff. And the maze at the end is INFURIATING. Oh well. The important thing is that I finally unlocked Wolf, so now I can play as him, and so far I'm really liking him. I'm still adjusting to his terrible 3rd jump, but his smashes and aerials are just killer, and I love the fact that his laser can inflict melee damage as well as ranged. Plus his howl is just the coolest thing ever.
My secondary is supposed to be King Dedede but I need a lot of practice with him. He's just such a different play style for me it feels really awkward. He is just too cool not to use though. Right now I'm still better with Kirby, who I am liking a lot. They took away all the things that sucked about him in Melee and gave him some of his advantages back, like a good forward smash.
Anyway right now I am taking a quick break before going back into the fray. My brothers and I have all done nothing but play this game since we got it so I still haven't even had a chance to find out my code but I'll post it as soon as I get a moment. It will be fun to play you guys. I have no idea how good I am since I only ever play my brothers. I'm pretty sure Kubie and Wattson will both trounce me!

Keep in mind I don't have every character yet, but so far she seems the most mobile to me. Good areials, good tilts, her down and side smash compliment one another, and her over-b packs a punch. She is the closest thing in this game to what Sheik was in melee, for me at least. I've also noticed that she does well against King DDD, which seems promising.
Nice matches last night btw. The last few were really enjoyable once the lag seemed to diminish to a pretty-playable level. I think the game can record matches for two or three minutes. I wish I had recorded the Pit/ROB match. The Snake/Wolf battle was also pretty sexy. I'll be online a lot this week if you, or anyone else in here for that matter, want to play.
also: can I decrease the lag by speeding up my connection? if so, how would I go about doing that, buying a new wireless router or whatever? should I put a lock or password on it so people nearby can't leech? would leeching cause the lag to be worse for me than it otherwise would be on my connection? I just want to maximize the experience because i'll be spending an absurd amount of time playing it.
Kubi, I definitely recommend encrypting your wireless. Of course, if anyone's really determined to leech from you, they will break it, but the average Joe would just look for another open network or give up. More drain on your connection will, of course, translate into lag, so securing it should be a high priority.
I should be able to start playing online tonight (no damn houseguests to get in the way for once), so I've copied all the friend codes listed in this thread. I'll get mine and post it once I get home from work.
I'm having a lot of fun with the game so far, but I haven't made near as much progress in unlocking things as I would have liked, mainly because there's always been someone around to get in my way. I still need Game & Watch, ROB, Jigglypuff, Wolf, and Toon Link.
My favorite characters aren't shaping up quite like I expected. I expected to use Meta Knight quite a bit, but I like Pit a lot more. Zelda, Diddy Kong, Olimar, Pit, and Yoshi seem to be my best characters to date. I only suck with a few of them: Dedede, Marth, and Ike. It annoys me quite a bit, I must say, that I'm not half bad with Snake, who is the one character I wanted to avoid spending time with, but TK will be happy to know that I have opted to neglect Sonic completely.

I think I read somewhere (smash boards?) that the Wii's internet usage for brawl is insanely low, like 2-3 KB/s. So to lower lag, it doesn't really matter what internet connection you have... But someone leeching off your connection definitley puts a strain on it, torrenting while playing puts a strain on it, having the wii be a far distance from the wireless router puts a strain on it...
I don't know much about wireless routers but I don't really see how having a new one could help?
I'm using the nintendo wifi usb connector myself, and since I installed it here saturday the wii has connected amazingly fast to the internet, but I haven't gotten a chance to try out any wifi matches in Brawl yet so I can't claim to
know anything. I might be on a lot today, we'll have to see though.
Oh, and if you were wondering, to save a replay you hit "Z" (if you're using gamecube controller) int he results screen. It shows two buttons on the bottom of each character's list of stats - the left is record replay and the right is your A equivalent... if that helps you find it.
@TK
Zamus is just incredibley fluid to use. She's up there as one of my favorite newcomers. Like, Squirtle is definitley my best at this point, but she's in the top 4ish. Her juggling ability and air control are definitley high up there, and she is fairly strong on the ground too. Her speed is amazing, and she's got the range on some of her moves that Marth wishes he still had. Her only real downsides that I can see are that some of her moves are a little weird/seem weak, and how she has a terrible final smash, both because the move itself sucks and that it makes her Samus, who seems really bad this game to me.
Also, I'd just like to say that I don't think wavedashing was all that hard to get down in melee. SHFFLing was nearly impossible for me since I can barely short hop to save my life, but I got wavedashing down after practicing it for a little while. Once you learn it, it just becomes second nature to do, and it really doesn't seem that technically challenging to me. Moot point now, but thought I'd throw that out there. The only characters I used wavedashing regularly with were Ice Climbers and Luigi, though - it certainly isn't an end all be all skill, and I certainly have lost while doing it to friends who don't.
OH yeah, I beat all 41 solo events on hard yesterday, except for the elektroplankton one, which I beat on easy since it wasn't an interesting challenge and it doesn't even seem beatable on hard. :/
from what I can see you get no control over the random wi-fi battles at all. It is a shame.
Kubirio and I played last night and at first the lag made it almost unplayable, but after a while the connection seemed to stabilize and we managed to get some smooth battles in. So yeah, if anyone's getting lag I recommend waiting it out for a few matches to see if it improves.
Kubie: I agree on the matches! Those ones you listed were definitely the best. I got a lot more interested in playing ROB after that.
After playing Kubirio as Zamus I can see what people mean about her. The distance she gets was really messing up my defense, as she was often able to jump in safely. A big part of my Wolf strategy is trying to control distance with Wolf's great ranged game so that people can't effectively approach, and other characters with good range make this much more difficult, so I will have to try to learn some new strategies against her. I also experienced this to some degree with Snake. I was winning that battle at first and then Kubirio turned it around by using grenades to shoot over Wolf's lasers while just out of range. That was really intense, I think we were both getting towards 200% by the time it finally ended (I lost).
Wattson, do you know if there is some way to transfer captured replays to an avi or something? That would be really kickass. I was planning on recording matches after I get my video camera fixed but directly recording the match and saving it to my PC would be so much better.
And yeah, you are basically right about wave dashing. I could do it about 50% of the time and I never rigorously practiced it, so I'm sure if I had it would have become second nature without that much trouble. Really it's just that I think it contributes to overly complicating the game. I find simplicity to be more elegent.
Shuffling, though... I could not have done that to save my life, and I was really relieved when I heard it wasn't in Brawl and I wouldn't have to learn. That is more a case of me not wanting to put the time in.

Once again I can play tonight. I'm in chat so let me know in there or IM me on AIM at Mosrite Mecha.
Also, I have hardly used the Wii before this game came out so I'm a bit out of the loop but basically does it take any regular SD card or do you have to have an official Nintendo one? I would assume if it's SD it would take any but Nintendo can be kinda fascist about stuff sometimes. Also does anyone know how large the file size tends to be for movies you've captured? Like, if they were at say, 5 minutes?

I need to go blow off some steam or something. I've just spent the last 20 minutes (maybe longer, I might actually be under-exaggerating) trying to join a brawl with Swami (I think). I keep getting disconnection errors.
Everybody is having problems connecting right now. I looked up the error code and it's probably just the servers being down or overloaded. Give it a few hours and it should hopefully fix itself.

tk you no added me yet
Toon Link is the most broken obnoxious little piece of shit ever and I want to KILL HIM.
Really? I haven't unlocked him yet, due to not having a lot of time to focus on it. How is he broken?
Hynad
03-13-2008, 08:06 PM
LOL, TK just have problems with his short size. Toon Link is great!
He has 3 projectiles, all of which are completely spammable. His smashes and tilts have tremendous range and KO power, especially his fmash which can KO Wolf on final destination at barely over 100%. His aerials also have good range and power and his spike is by FAR the best one in the game, it sends him down at lightning speed and he actually bounces off an opponent he spikes, allowing him to easily return to the stage. He even bounces off you if you shield this move and lands with no lag, so there is no risk for him to abuse the hell out of it. On top of all this he is not a particularly light character and has decent recovery. I can't think of any other character for whom it is so easy to rack up damage, but can also KO at such low %s. He is difficult to approach because his normals have such great range and sweeping coverage, but also cannot be camped out against since be beats almost everyone when it comes to projectiles.
Even a reflector does nothing against him. He can simply camp out and shoot at you and let his shield (the one he holds) stop everything you reflect back, and he also has the ability to throw bombs directly in front of you instead of onto you, in which case the explosion will still hit you and go right through your reflector.
It's definitely not me either, a lot of people are complaining about him on smashboards.
Well, that blows. There always seems to be something to shatter the balance.
On the other hand, I don't want to make it sound too insane. There are some people who are of the opinion that TL isn't really broken and people are just overreacting and that may well be the case. The way this game is played is going to change tremendously and many of the characters people thought were the best in Melee when it first came out (Roy is a great example) later turned out to be vastly overshadowed by others they had written off to some extent (Falco and Peach are great examples of this). It also could be that Wolf is a bad matchup against him and other characters have a lot less trouble, though one person in my Wolf vs. TL thread on smashboards said something like, "don't worry, every character has trouble with TL, not just Wolf."
So I dunno, time will tell. But for now my hatred has been directed mostly away from Sonic to this little buttfuck.

I wish wolf wouldn't yell out "RAUL" every time he up smashes but it's been a good course of lols so that's cool BEANS. Also I discovered against a friend tonight that apparently wolf can chainthrow just as well as dedede can, which is also pretty sweet.
The more I play the less I'm sure of who my main is. :'(
I'm finding Sonic and Snake both a lot more fun than they seemed they would be. Squirtle and Metaknight are pretty up there as my best two, though... but Dedede is sweet when I can use him right. I think I'd probalby have to include Marth on that list it's just I never use him because I used him too much in melee.
Does anyone know if the Elektroplankton event is even passable on hard? I've done it on normal just fine, but I really can't see it doable on hard, and it annoys me since I've now done every other solo event and every double event on hard difficulty.

I don't THINK Wolf has a true chain throw, but maybe you have discovered something previously unknown! I assume this is with his downthrow?
yeah, downthrow -> dashgrab -> downthrow -> dashgrab etc etc
just like dedede's
and just like dedede's it doesn't always work if your opponent tech's properly or rolls out of the way... or maybe I'm just too slow with both of them.
BUT
Wolf definitley seems to have the potential to chain throw, and it has worked in most of the (admittedly few) times I've tried it.
edit: with further messing around today I'm not sure it's good enough to even call a chainthrow. It works on opponents who are dedede-slow or are sheeps and don't know how to play, but the other 95% of the time it just doesn't cut it (or if it does work, you get hit in between each throw - not sure how that example ended up working, it was weird, but it happened).
Oh well!

so far ike has been pissing me off especially when my bro picks him ( he's already at 200 ko's) sonic's been getting under his skin though so it serves him right for annoying me with ike. suprisingly i'm good with yoshi. ive beaten the event battle on the hard difficulty. they made that BITCH mario fast and huge, and you have to face snake and sonic. if it wasn't for marth and his precious counter, i'd still be stuck on those pieces of shit!!!!!
the olimar mission on event battle is a pain in the ASSS! too you'll really enjoy it. then there's getting whooped by minions on the intense difficulty of subspace maze. i'd like to see you sorry pieces of shit out there beat up on tabuu on that difficulty!!!!
Beating Ike: use someone with a spammable projectile and use that to give him a difficult time approaching you. This will make it easy to predict his attacks and either shield grab them or dodge them and hit back. As much as possible you want to take advantage of his lagginess: he is one of the easiest characters in the game to punish for mistakes.
My brother also plays Ike sometimes, and he absolutely cannot even begin to touch my Wolf with him because I use this strategy.
He gives me quite a battle when he uses Metaknight though. Metaknight is a super huge pain to fight. That tornado move is infuriating.

good advice tk; which reminds me there is an event battlle where you pick ike against two diddy kongs. and all they do is evade your moves, until a giant dk comes out of nowhere and tries to kill you; thats why i hate diddy!!!!!!!!!! i also hate it when the cpu gets caught in ikes final smash sometimes

Prak: Where is your FC?
TK: I tried Wolf at a local brawl get-together and really liked him more than Fox or Falco. His blaster is annoying, and he has great range with his f-smash. I'd like to put my Ike against your Wolf some time.
I played some three-player matches with Garamond and Marvin a few nights ago with little to no lag. That was really fun. My internet was down yesterday, and I missed my online tourney. =(
Anyways, i've got nothing else.
I'd like to put my Ike against your Wolf some time.
Even after I already slaughtered it once before? :P
I am totally down for this though, we should play some more anyway. And yeah Wolf is really killer and tons of fun to play. Right now my hardest matchups with him are against Metaknight and Olimar, other than that I have a solid strategy for everybody.

Still have Boss Battle on hard-intense left, and have to do Classic, All Star, and most target smashes as every character, so that's a significant amount left... but besides boss battle nothing is really challenging. It sucks, though - we did All Star with every character and got every final smash trophy, but we did it co-op, so now I have through it all over again solo. Yeah, at the map screen hit the cancel button (depends on your control scheme) to where you can choose "Save" "Back to Map" "Quit" and "Stickers". Select "Stickers" and on the bottom right you will see which character is currently selected and you can scroll through the various ones who have joined your team. After selecting your character, on the right hand side of the screen would be your list of stickers and on the bottom shows what the stickers effect does. It's like a customisation feature.

Those were some nice matches, TK. JFTR the first three where I competely sucked didn't count as I was on the phone with my g/f. Lame excuses aside you play a pretty decent Wolf, much better than others I've seen. I think you should incorporate his dash A more into your strategy. It's great for starting combos. Also use his side B to get near your opponent since actually getting the right conditions to knee him is only by chance. Plus they see the move and they usually dodge, which gives you time to recover from the lag the move generates.
I must admit though, I did laugh quite hard when I beat you with Sonic, I imagined you must have ben annoyed.
Not really. My hatred for sonic is largely a superficial thing. You closed that match with a pretty supurb edgeguard and I was more pleased to see such a thing in motion.
Sorry, I totally disagree about that side B move. I think if you've found it effective for getting near your opponent you've just been playing people who aren't familiar enough with Wolf or can't play. It is way too laggy and very unsafe for just about anything but recovering in my opinion.
And no girlfriend phone excuses. :P

I'll admit the lag can be a bit of a killer for moves like that. What really gets me the most is when I play Wolf, I'll get slapped off the edge but I had pressed A when I'm still on the level. When that happens the lag causes me to do a neutral air which usually ends up in a bullshit point for whoever knocked me off.
My favorite part about basic brawls is I can kick so much ass with Dedede, Wolf, or Sonic that after 2 or 3 consecutive matches, the other three opponents will ignore one another and only come after me. Noobs is funny. ^_^

I pretty much unlocked everything for this game already. I have all of the characters, all of the stages, all of the music, thanks to an effective CD Factory that I created, and all modes. All that's left for me now are some trophies and some stickers.
Playing online is fun, at least for a little while, then the lag starts to set in and the countless dropped connection. I consider myself to be fairly decent with Ike, sometimes winning an online 2 minute brawl with a +7 score and not a single Smash Ball used, maybe that's nothing fancy at all. Well I mean I knew how to dodge it for a long time, but I never figured out the timing until I sat down and practiced against Tabuu once yesterday (took a couple of deaths though). Nowhere near as hard as it might seem, but in boss battle it's annoying as hell to fight through the first 9 and make one tiny mistake against Tabuu and then you have to go through it all over again.
Corneria is just a random CD.

Edge guarding is when you've gotten your opponent off the side of the stage, but they can still recover, so you jump out over the side and attack (usually with an aerial, but in some cases, like with Fox's reflector, specials can also be useful for this) to keep them off until they die. It is tricky and takes a lot of practice; you have to know your character's recovery very well so you will be sure that you don't jump out too far in pursuit of an enemy and kill yourself in the process. In learning to do it you will probably die a lot of humiliating deaths. It is very worthwhile though, because if someone does know how to do it and you don't, they already have a tremendous advantage over you.

Ah, ty, TK and Gara. I've done a bit of nosing around and found out a bit of things to try. I'd been edge-guarding quite a bit without even knowing what it was. Usually it wound up being some silly timed Smash shenanigans or an aerial attack, if my guy had good recovery moves, like Samus and Link. Now that I've a clue how to do things properly, I might be slightly (and I do mean slightly) better than a complete noob, roffle.

[QUOTE=TK;1025955]Edge guarding is when you've gotten your opponent off the side of the stage, but they can still recover, so you jump out over the side and attack (usually with an aerial, but in some cases, like with Fox's reflector, specials can also be useful for this) to keep them off until they die. It is tricky and takes a lot of practice; you have to know your character's recovery very well so you will be sure that you don't jump out too far in pursuit of an enemy and kill yourself in the process. In learning to do it you will probably die a lot of humiliating deaths. It is very worthwhile though, because if someone does know how to do it and you don't, they already have a tremendous advantage over you.[/QUOTE
and beware folks, cause the wolf can hunt the fox with an edge guarding dair spike just like falco!!!!!!!!

I wish I had more than one wavebird to make an effective cd factory. I have a similar stage designed for getting cds/stickers but it is just absurdly bad.
I wish that I could upload a picture of my CD Factory for you, it's super effective to the point where it's able to contain all of the bags and they're constantly being pounded, it flows like a dryer.
I prefer to use Yoshi for this becuase of the way he hits the bags and he always picks up everything. Using a turbo controlled and fastening the A button means you can go off and do something else without paying any attention to the game at all. ^_^
Oh, I didn't notice Garamond's post. Gara, I think you are referring to what is typically known as edge hogging. Hogging is when you hang on the edge to stop another person from doing so, because only one person can hang on a ledge at a time, so if the person can't get fully back onto the ledge they will fall to their doom.

Nah, I know how to design one, but I lack the equipment (extra wavebirds and/or turbo controllers) to make it effective.
Instead I have a large tube with one square of fighting room and just have me (and as many friends who are willing to do it) and computers duke it out there with sandbags on high... usually fast brawl with high gravity. There are treadmills leading into the pit and there's like 3-4 fally blocks so it's very difficult to get out.
Usually we can get a cd every 5-10 minutes doing that method, but it's very boring and requires a lot of hitting A so it's not super effective.
Today I just got over 250 songs, though, so that leaves, what, 28ish or so?

hmm, intresting method. I'm gonna try something like that. I have a turbo controller so I can properly pull it off.

TK, I get to play with the big wigs at Nintendo like Masahiro Sakurai and Shigeru Miyamoto.
We invited Yuji Naka to join and were playing the original version before some of them rights to certain characters were you know.
Like Geno Shigeru was like "Masahiro, don't worry. Those cats at Square will do this for me."
But they had a Pokemon battle (Pokemon are real, but only a few people have them, and only in Japan). Yōichi Wada won so no Geno in the game.
They wanted to put in Dr. Mario but Yuji Naka insisted that they didn't, because he felt Sonic wouldn't stand a chance against two Marios but would be quite the match for just one.

So to my great dismay, my roommate asked for his Wii back. I was borrowing it until my girlfriend came back with ours. What really pisses me off is he said, and I quote, "Dude, I don't care how long you borrow it, just take care of it." Yeah he's allowed to change his mind, but he said this TWO days ago...
I also know for a fact he rarely touches his Wii. Maybe I'm just venting, but anyway the main point I'm trying to make is I won't be able to Brawl with anyone for a while. When I do get my Wii back though, I will have a different FC and Brawl FC, so we're going to have to do this whole exchange thing again.
I get my MGS Essentials Collection tomorrow, though, so I'll be tided over until my girlfriend comes home. I'm kinda sad though, I won't be able to Brawl TK for a while, and he was the only actual decent player I've faced.

Roffle, why did you add me when I've freely stated that I'm terrible at Brawl? Or did you wanna laugh at me, too? ;)

No laughing intended, seeing as you admittingly stated you weren't any good, I wanted to play for sheer enjoyment. You know, there's more to games than intense competition, especially Brawl. :)

Sadly, no.... I can always ask my g/f to buy me one, but I don't think that'd be too smart at the moment. :/

She's going to try and visit for my birthday next month. As for permanent it looks like late May/early June.
When she visits though, I'm demanding she bring the Wii back with her, so when it does happen I'll give you a heads up as well as an updated FC. :D
