I do miss turn-based battles and world maps as well. I hated FFXII with a passion, but it was mainly due to the story and characters rather than battle. The battle system and hunts were actually quite fun but the lackluster music and story did not help. I miss the older days for sure, but I am extremely hopeful for XIII. *crosses fingers*

I agree with you. I never played XI because it simply isn't final fantasy (an MMORPG? Seriously?). I thought FF XII's battles were fun once I got used to it (I did like the gambit system) and the overal gameplay wasn't too bad, but the dull story just killed it for me. And the guns, I hate guns.

Last really good Final Fantasy I've played was IX, though X was pretty good (but the ending killed it).

You do know there is a one month free trial period for FFXI right? Give it a try before flaming it.

I never played the older Final Fantasies, but I have to say Final Fantasy XII was the best RGP I ever played, on any system. The game is immense and deeply enthralling, completing all the hunts was a real challenge. I completed the game twice, and now I hear Zodiac System has been translated into English. So it seems a third time is in order.

I hope 13 really gets back to basics, the fighting looks turn based which is a plus, i loved the world map and i've been listening to all the music from 7 to 10 the last few weeks because i'm downloading 7 this week and i can't wait to play it :P

As far as I've seen FFXIII has no world map, is extraordinarily linear (as in straight hallways with unavoidable fights from cut scene to cut scene) and the combat while turn based is a far cry from the battle systems we've seen in the past.

Are FF Games getting worse? I don't think so, I think they are just changing and we are growing up. The changes differentiate them from the old games, and we in some ways are longing for days gone by.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

They have been getting worse for the past 15 years. And yes I know this has been discussed to the bone in this topic, but I do not care, I'm drunk.

Curse modern FF seriously. The last Final Fantasy I played was 8, and there was no freedom within it whatsoever. Maybe the dialogue boxes gave that imression but they did not have anything to do with the game itself. Sure the old games were pretty linear too but atleast they did not cheat you like that. And the cardgame was total bollocks too. I'm not going to get into that game or 7 that deeper because all that would accoplish is rectal bleeding on 97% of the users of this forum.

FF10 and downwards were the best but ff12 and the new ff12 for the ds and dirge of cerberus were not as good
they changed the battle style which i think ruins the game
any opinions reply to this thread

I am with you 100% on this one. I loathe the new battle system in FFXII. I miss the true turn based style of the older games in the series.

BTW-- much love for your icon ^_^

Yes I can see this as well and have to admit that I am one of the influenced. I suppose in a way I wanted a new game without much change...lol but I don't think anything can make me actually say I like FF XII bu I do hold out hope XIII is better.

Are you telling me you actually tried to play in sequence? I'm impressed. Yeah, FFII's plot is pretty paper-thin and the battle system is really weird, but I'm willing to give it a break, given that it was still so early on in the series.

Nah, I played 10, 10-2, 9, 3, 4, 7, 8, 6, 1, 2, and then 5. I didn't finish 2 or 5, too boring.
