my bro would have been pissed if they did not put falco back on the game
i'm just glad they choose to add more characters to the game even if some are joke characters and low tier

Well, Super Smash Brothers Brawl received the highest score possible from Nintendo Power, scoring a perfect 10.

i have this game reserved, why because i bet 100$ that there will not be any copies available for the general public, so RESERVE your copy now if you haven't done so already; i need to trade some old games in so that i don't have to pay out of pocket; tournaments have already been announced at participating gamestops!!!!!!!

It's the hype factor. The most exciting part of seeing spoilers for a new game is all the cool, interesting, and unique unlockables. SSB64 had a starting roster of 8, with 4 unlockables, total of 12. Melee had a starting roster of 14 (15 w/ Sheik counted), and 11 unlockable characters, making a total of 24 (25 w/ Sheik)... almost double the starting characters, almost triple the unlockables, and over twice as many total characters. Sweet! Brawl has a starting roster of 21 (23 with ZSS and Sheik, 25 with them + pokemon from PKMN Trainer), and 14 unlockable characters, making a total of 35 characters (37 or 39, depending if you count alts as other characters). Note that there's only 1.5x as many starting characters, only 3 more unlockables, and only 10 more total. Quite a lame improvement compared to SSBM's leap.

But the biggest blow is that, while yeah there only 3 more unlockable characters than melee (still that's 14 unlockables!), only Toon Link, ROB, and Wolf aren't returning characters that we expected back - Snake and Sonic, too, but they were already announced. Ness could count as unexpected, too, but that could go etiher way. Melee's unlockables contained a whole NINE newcomers. That's nine characters to get super excited about when the game was launched. Brawl only delivered three and were are all expecting Brawl to improve on Melee in every aspect. That's where the problem lies. It improved it in most ways, but when they were saying the roster is "larger than you can imagine" and stuff like that, it's hard not to be a little dissapointed.

I'm already at the point where I'm mostly over the dissapointment, though; I just wanted to explain myself better. If it were up to me, I'd rather see a large diverse cast of Nintendo characters than the roster we have, but that doesn't mean I don't still expect it to be the best game I've ever owned (since Melee is definitley my favorite game ever for now).

Which reminds me, I remember once someone saying they should use a Hanafuda character from Nintendo's pre-video game cards, and I totally think that would be an awesome character. I'd also have loved to see Miis as a playable character, considering how much fun messing with just names can be with friends in melee... but oh well...

edit: I just realized my post sounds a lot like "lol numbers are different so it's worse" but basically to make a TL;DR version: I like unexpected surprising unlockables and Brawl has such a small number there that it is dissapointing.

I see your point. I guess I am just not at all in the mindset of caring about unlockables. The overall number of new characters in the game is completely satisfactory to me, so whether they are unlockables or not doesn't factor in. In fact if anything I think I'd rather have the new characters not be unlockable so I can try them out sooner.

It is somewhat odd about Mewtwo not returning, I agree with that. I'm not a big fan of his so I'm not bothered by it but they already had him from Melee, and it certainly would have been nice to see a version of him that doesn't suck horribly, since logically he should be pretty good.

Still, if it was a choice between him and Lucario, I'd easily take Lucario. The only thing that could have pleased me more when it comes to Pokemon is Gengar.

There is a Super Smash Bros. Brawl tournament, I wish I could join in that but even if I did I probably wouldn't get far. Anybody else read about it?

Overall winner gets a crystal Wii and home theater system and other stuff.
and whoever enters gets a $10 best buy gift card
