The list is for what I don't have in Emerald. My Pokedex is maybe 20ish caught 60-70ish seen in Diamond right now, but mainly because some of the Japanese players are being nice and making GTS offers like Starly for Chimchar. This is probably the first time I've played through Pokemon with a party including all three starters. Though now my Staraptor has become an HM slave.

And as for Smokey's question... I personally have been very close to playing the game nonstop since I got it, only taking short breaks... and I don't know how Garamond got as far as he did. The fellow is a machine, apparently.

Traded Pokemon from Japan get nearly 2x experience in battle.

That's mainly what I'm using with Infernape/Torterra/Empoleon. That along with Staraptor gave me enough to pretty easily go through every Gym so far with little trouble. That, and I'm really not catching Pokemon and more concerned with just seeing them so I can get the National Dex faster so I can just import what I already have.

Whatever you trade should be fine. Now that I have my False Swiping Sceptile that I use for catching Pokemon it's really easy to get what I want.

I think I've gotten all the Pearl exclusives that are new Pokemon, though. It's just Glameow/Evolved Form, Palkia, Mismagius, and Shieldon, I think.

Turns out it has a neutral nature, which is great for going through the main game. A+

As long as the natures isn't one that does -ATK or -SATK to a Pokemon that I need knows ATK or SATK, I'm usually okay with it. I just had Infernape and Empoleon dominate everybody with Torterra doing the occassional attack here and there when I played.

Staraptor became a HM slave. Sad, really, because he was really good when I did use him.


EDIT: Japanese players are really nice. They just traded an Aerodactyl for the Magikarp that Wattson sent me. I'm going to see if I can relay yours off for something now.

Yeah, I love Staraptor, and I'm definitely loving not having HMs on him. Close combat + flying stab covers almost everything and he is fast and hits hard as hell.

He was good for me, but my others were about 10-15 levels higher than high because they got nearly double experience because I got them from some Japanese players.

So, like, he was... my flying HM slave. And the Fog Clear one.

My preferred flying HM slave is Pelliper, since you can teach it fly, waterfall, and surf, and now it's able to learn fog clear too.

OKAY GUYS, the company place thing that I ordered Diamond through emailed me today (well yesterday) and said that they have sent all of their pre-orders out. SO YEAH, I should have it earlier than I was expecting ^_^. GREAT.

Also: How long before any of you d00dz and d00detz are gonna be interested in competitive battling? It'll be a long time before I have a real competitive team that's all properly bred and EV trained, but I will be putting something together in the meantime to try playing people with (I accept no responsibility for losses because it will not be optimized for competitive strategies!)

well, like I said, my first team isn't going to be bred/EV trained either, so hey. But yeah, in general, playing on Wi-fi I really only intend to play for fun. Serious competition I'll reserve for Competitor.

If you want I can send you a Pokemon with Pokerus to help you out. EV training isn't a pain at all, it took maybe half an hour for me to EV train my Tyranitar in Emerald, but the IVs were pretty bad. Like 13 ATK and SPD and like 7 HP while being Adamant with like a 30 SATK. Stupid IV values.

EV training is no problem, it's just breeding I hate the process of. I will do it though, it's just that I'm not going to spend a lot of time experimenting with it. Whenever I establish a team on competitor that actually works, I will attempt to duplicate it in the game.

Hey, also, question about GTS. If you have to have seen something to request it, how do people request things like Jirachis and Manaphys and whatnot? Are they all people who have already gotten them somehow and just want another one or something?

Anyway, I should be able to transfer Pokemon from my GBA carts to Diamond within the next couple days, so if you haven't gotten one still, I should be able to send you a Suicune at that point (you can keep it if you don't mind a clone, which I assume you don't), but I don't think I have any of the others you are looking for unfortunately.

Maybe once I get that scorpion pkmn (forget the name at the moment....toughest little sob to battle w/ though, b/c even at lvl 30, he's getting the crap stomped out of him by lvl 20 wilds....grrr) to evolve into his dark/dragon evolved form....and getting a few other dragon pkmn caught, leveled and evolved.

I've gotta say that the Shinx evolution train is pretty powerful, though when played right. It's one solid voltage source when battled with smartly. Charge + any good electric move does solid damage to any pokemon that doesn't have electrical resistance...let alone woe to any gyrados (sp?) that it happens to battle.

I think my party may be too slow now. Hopefully that Jolly Chimchar I just bred helps things. Decided that I'm going to use Infernape and probably Jirachi and a Manaphy. I checked Jirachi has a neutral nature but his IVs look pretty good. Infernape, not so good IVs but not exactly HORRIBLE, so whatever. Manaphy, I have like 16 of them in my box, one should have a decent nature.

Also, I may be ready to actual real type battling within a week or so. Maybe. For my fun Shiny party, I just need to EV train my Deoxys and Eeveelution for a 3 way party with Shiny madness.

I'm looking for Shinies, so if you guys got any just tell me.

And whenever anybody needs to EV train I can give you Pokerus Pokemon to make it much quicker. As in getting 8 EVs in one battle.

Each Pokemon has a 1/8129 or so chance of being Shiny. It will look different and sparkle when it comes into battle.

I was lucky enough to get a Shiny Beldum which became a Shiny Metagross when I evolved it.

My other Shinies I've traded for, and I'm looking for starters. Specifically, a Shiny Chimchar. I've got some Shiny Legendaries, but they're either hacked, cloned, or at level 100 and impossible to EV train.

That's interesting. Is it noted anywhere in their summary data? Also, do they always stay Shiny after they evolve and is it possible for them to become that way when they evolve?

Shinies stay shiny when they evolve. They will look visibly different than normal Pokemon and have a star in their summary data indicating that they are indeed shiny Pokemon. It is impossible for a Pokemon to become shiny afterwards, though. Some people literally spends days soft resetting to get shiny starters and legendaries. They used to be determined by IV values in the Metal generation, but are just randomly decided upon now.

Manaphy's IVs are decent, around 20ish for everything. Good enough.

For a 1/8000+ chance, that's not even something I would do for days. I hope

It's not, but some people are crazy and want to do it anyways. The thing with 3rd gen games is you can clone your shinies to no end. Can't do that with Diamond/Pearl, at least just yet.

And getting a good nature with your Shiny is even harder, not to mention IVs and whatnot. Most they're just for show, unlike in the 2nd gen where they had to have a set IV set that was actually pretty decent and with no natures, you didn't have to worry about that at all.

Like my Infernape went +24 in one battle for ATK or something after EV training for a few minutes with Pokerus/Macho Brace

Have you tried EV training a Pok�mon then dumping it in a PC box before it levels up even once? That worked on GBA, but I won't be able to find out for myself if it works on DS anytime soon. =\

how teh fuxorz did you do it. I was planning to do that for when I eventually catch mesprit since you can see that one without having to catch it, but I don't get how you could get Uxie and Azelf in your dex without catching them (or KOing them which obviously I don't want to do.)




And those are all really good sweepers. I'd pick two, and include Cresselia like you're thinking about. They are all physical-only sweepers for the most part except Infernape, so I would pick Infernape to special sweep and one of the other three for physical. (And I'd pick Weavile but biased because it's a favorite. But seriously, choice band + stab pursuit = broken.)

I caught Azelf and Uxie with Dusk Balls at night after using Hypnosis and other stat stuff. Got them to pretty low HP. 4x catch rate with Dusk Ball in night is super.

Though if you want I can send you over those if you need the dex data.

I'm leaning towards Weavile or Electrivire because I like those two the most, but I may just go with another Special Sweeper entirely over Infernape. I know Scizor may not be all that good, but that's a Pokemon I've always wanted to use ever since G/S/C and I never did, so I may test him out as well. Just because I like Scizor.

Oh, I already caught them. It's actually not that awful, I used timer balls. I just hate the process especially because battles take a little longer this generation than they have in the past. Anyway, that answers my question! I'll do the same thing for catching Mesprit when I get around to it. There is a whole fuckload of cloning I need to do in emerald actually. All my linoons for pickuping, a bunch of leftovers and choice bands and of course master balls, and lots of other pokes I want to migrate and also want to keep in emerald.

I sure wish there was a cloning trick in LG/FR, it would make things so much easier. ;_;

My main ADV cart is Emerald, so I really have everything I want on one game.

I'm pretty sure Dusk Balls are better than Timer Balls. I think Timer Balls max at at 4x, while Dusk Balls stay at 4x during the night/dark places. Pretty sure. Timer Balls take like 30+ turns before they even reach 4x. I've heard that Quick Balls or whatever work pretty well, but haven't tested it myself.

The only thing I'm really cloning now is Rare Candies and the like, so I can just level up my Pokemon real fast after EV training them.

I honestly feel like the cloning process for rare candies actually takes longer than leveling up a team of pickup pokemon and getting them that way.

Unless there is some cloning process in D/P that I'm unaware of besides the Ditto trick.

I'm at the point where I just Rare Candy 12 a day.

Fight Elite 4 for fun after EV training with Lucky Egg and then candy it when it's too high of a level.

I don't know of any cloning trick in Diamond/Pearl, except that glitchy may not work GTS thingie where you have to corrupt your data.

To rare candy twelve a day, wouldn't you have to individually clone each one in Emerald, then migrate them to pal park, then catch them? It just seems really counterintuitive to me. And mind-numbing.

I'm attaching them to Pokemon I don't have in DP from Emerald so I'm going to catch them anways. I've already gotten all the Choice Band/Lucky Egss/Master Ball I need so it's just candy time. Catching them in Pal Park is actually pretty simple.

Cloning items are pretty simple, though. I usually clone like 40+ candies at a time, it takes like a minute or two to do it.

You use Move Item and attach everything to all your Pokemon. Save. Take all the items back, go to that lady and then say blah blah, don't save and then soft reset.

You don't have to clone Pokemon to clone items.

To save even more time, just leave the items on the pokemon if you're going to clone a lot.
Then it's as simple as saving it, take the items off, and resetting.

I'm glad I never actually got to any hardcore breeding in emerald cause boy I'd be pissed if I wasted all that time cloning one at a time.

And I'm pretty sure 3rd Gen Dittos can't do the Everstone trick either.

That's not entirely true. A pokemon freshly hatched at level 1 and the same pokemon freshly caught at like level 98 will have the same stats at 100 if you EV train them both the same way. That is, if you ignore IVs and Natures....

It has nothing to do with level-ups. It's entirely about EVs. The only reason a trained Pokemon will have better stats at the same level than one caught in the wild is because every time you make it fight another Pokemon, it gains EV points in a particular stat from that battle. If you were to level a Pokemon up in the daycare, for example, and then get one in the wild at the same level, their stats would be the same except for whatever differences are inherently in their IVs.

IVs are a number from 0-31 in each stat a Pokemon has that they are born with and never change. A Pokemon with 31 IVs in attack will always be able to have a higher max attack than one with any less. This basically allows for variation within the same species, so that two Pokemon EV trained the same way still will not be exactly the same.

Yes, but it does not make a difference if you start training them at level 50 or level 1. Levels are irrelevant.

as for your question, I'm not sure I totally understand what you're asking. But in terms of EV training, all that matters is the species of pokemon you fight, not the level. i.e. if you fight ten zubats you will get the same amount of speed EVs regardless of whether they are level 5 or level 50.

I recommend reading the FAQ I linked to on page 7. It will tell you everything you need to know about how Pokemon training works.

Got a Blissey I'm okay with. Like 22/23/24 for HP IV, 3/4 HP IV, 30/31 for DEF and like 28+ for everything else. I may breed some more for a a somewhat better HP IV but I'm fine with what I have now. I've already spent enough time for that Blissey.

Like every Zubat you face gives you 1 Speed EV. IV/DV should be the same thing. Serebii uses IV, Smogon and others use DV. 255 max EV for each value, 510 max total. Each 4 means +1 for that stat. Each IV/DV value basically you'll have x more stat at level 100 for what your IV/DV value is. Breeding with good IV/natured Ditto is the way to go. Had some really good ones I caught in Diamond/ported that really makes things a lot less time consuming.

smogon uses IV too so far as I know.

Some of there forum guys use DV, PsyPoke's calculator calls it DV, Serebii uses IV. It really doesn't make much of a difference except it can confuse people. Like I think Serebii uses DVs to describes the set of values for IVs/EVs and the such, so whatever. I've seen it mainly referred to as IV in my TERM OF SERVICE SO I AM JUST SAYING BOO

Well, if you do not want your pok�mon to level up as quickly but still attain EVs, then yes, battle those lower level pok�mon instead. Otherwise the levels of the pok�mon you battle against do not matter. Evolved po�mon in the wild will give more EVs, sometimes to more than one stat, but some evolved pokemon may give you EVs in areas you may not want.

-Recieve a Pikachu with Surf and Volt Tackle from beating Pokemon Battle Revolution. Transfer it to your DS and evolve it into Raichu with a Thunderstone.

In theory I guess once you get a pikachu/raichu with Volt Tackle you can then use that as a male with a female pikachu/raichu and Volt Tackle might be passed on, without the need for a Light Ball, but I don't know for sure. If you do need a light ball either way you can just give it to the male pikachu/raichu so that the female can pass down natures with an Everstone.
