if you're gonna have HP ice over stone edge I'd just make it all out special. seems like a waste to put attack EVs in just for one move.

For those evos, you can just GTS them, trade for some random thing like a Bidoof and then retake them and they'll evolve. Just ask for something like a Level 10 Palkia or Dialga so the trade won't happen.

Also going to try THUNDERPUNCHING Electivire. Didn't want to split EVs into SpA just for Thunderbolt for like a few Pokes. HOPEFULLY IT WILL WORK OUT GUYS

Gengar will run wild in the Old Chateau if you have any of the GBA games entered.

max spA electivire does more damage with tbolt than max Atk electivire does with thunderpunch. However, max attack electivire probably does more damage in general, because he learns a wealth of fantastic physical attacks that give him incredibly broad type coverage. and if you're maxing his attack, you definitely want to give him thunderpunch over thunderbolt.

Yeah, the main thing is that Bolt would do more damage, but then focusing any EVs and stuff on SpA would make everything else weaker. There might be a few Pokemon that have the Physical Defense and would hurt Electivire somewhat without have Bolt over Punch, but I would probably just use something else in that case.

Though I'm undecided on what I want at this point. Probably anything that I bred for pretty decent IVs and natures and movesets and whatnot will be assembled into Team Ndi and then I'll try to make my team from whatever else.

Gravelers will give defense EVs.
Crobat's best bet are speed and attack EVs - try going after wingull (not pelipper), buizel/floatzel, zubat/golbat, ponyta, stunky, murkrow, pachirisu, and buneary (not lopbunny) for speed EVs, and shinx, gyarados, or kricketune for attack. I forgot what else gives attack EVs. Check some online pok�dex for more.

I really didn't check this team for anything other than Pokemon that fit TEAM NDI STYLE so I really don't care if it's competitive at all. Mewtwo has no gender, so you can't breed it with anything. Same goes for most legendaries, I think.

Actually, the reason you can't breed it is just "because the game said so." There are other genderless Pokemon, like Metagross, that can breed with dittos.

Most legendaries are genderless but some, like Heatran, aren't (and yet still can't breed.)

But yeah, the bottom line is you can't breed legendaries, including Mewtwo. The only way to get one with good IVs is to save before you catch it and then reset every time until you get extremely lucky. Personally I would never have the patience, even with a master ball.

Guys, I've got an idea. Let's start pooling our EV training knowledge. As in good spots to do it. So far I've had a pain in the ass trying to come up with good spots.

The best ones I've found so far are:

Special attack: Old Chateau (if you go into the room where you can meet Gengar it's even better since that gives 3 EVs)

Special defense: Fuego Ironworks surfing for tentacools. Of all the places I've tried it's the one where 95% of the encounters are tentacool. I just wish you could meet Tentacruel sometimes to speed the process up a little. If anybody has any better suggestions I'd be glad to hear them.

I don't know if this counts..But fishing w/ Super Rod and Gyarados gives you a lot of attack.
My Electivire's last two level ups have gotten 6 attack each time

Geodudes are 80%ish at Oreburgh Gate. Around the same in the mines with Onixes/Geodudes too.

Just use Macho Brace and Pokerus and that 4, 10 Irons before and like it doesn't take too long.

Then again, I've only EV trained like 2 defensive Pokemon, so bleh.

HP seems to be a real pain, though. Can't really find a great spot for it.

Speed I built up with Zubats mainly. I'm not sure if the lower encounter rate/more EVs for some other Pokemon saves time or not but I was too lazy to whatever so I wouldn't really know.

The PokeRadar may help in some places since it seems like you chain more of the same Pokemon over and over. Night/day along with swarms can screw up EV training, though.

Have you tried Route 213? I've gotten tentacruel quite a few times there without too many wingulls/pelippers

For HP, it seems to be easiest to train at night on Route 210 (noctowl and hoothoot seem to be the most common there) or in the Eterna forest (wurmple). Cascoon/silcoon gives 2 def EVs.

Night training for Noctowl/Hoothoot may not be so bad, but I know they won't appear in the day.

Wurmples seem to be 30%ish, so it may just be better to HP train in the beginning of the game where I think it's 50/50 for Starlies and Bidoofs, which would actually be real good for anybody who need HP and Speed.

I think daytime the forest gives like 30/30/20/20 with Wurmples/Budews/Cascoon or Silcoon/Bunearies. So like HP/SpA/Def/Spd

I'm too lazy to check other EV spots right now.

It landed two critical punches despite being struck and killed my metagross. Is that even legal? I imagine it could happen in my diamond version as well.

OK, I think I get what you are describing here, but you really can't miss with aerial ace. It always hits, even if they've raised their evasion or lowered your accuracy. I really have no idea how this is possible.

I didn't say it missed. I struck it with aerial ace for two turns and it only had 1 HP left in both turns. It would ignore the damage with Focus Band (I mean, each hit was the finishing blow); it had god mode for those last two turns! That is soooo cheating. It's gotta be! What exactly do you have to put up with in the newer versions? D=

I also noticed once when I was testing out an absol and it struck a gardevoir with Faint Attack, doing very little damage. I used the netbattle's damage calculator and found that even with max HP and defense gardevoir still takes a good deal of damage from an adamant absol using faint attack (252 atk EVs). I noticed, however, that there was a button entitled "battle mod" and found that that gardevoir actually had over a thousand defense EVs to take so little damage from Faint Attack. It's this kind of cheating that is probably responsible for the AI's Rhydons never missing when they use Horn Drill on my pok�mon, unless I use Double Team 4x or more. (I wonder if the game hates me for abusing Swagger and Double Team in earlier days. o_O' )

The Japanese ones can be legit except Arceus and Darkrai, I think. Darkrai will be given out soon but from what I hear it will be banned from GTS simply because it has perfect IVs. May be wrong on this. Shaymin and Darkrai can be glitched through some E4 Surf Glitch on original copies of the Japanese Diamond and Pearl. All other copies have that fixed.

Team Ash seem like it has to include Sceptile, Charizard and Pikachu since those three were his main powerhouses. POWERHOUSES!

If you use a hacked pok�mon, does it really matter? Can you get banned from Wifi or something? I mean to say, what are the consequences of using one?

If the hack is something where the stats don't match with what they should, then I could see that particular Pokemon being banned or something. I've tested it out with a Deoxsys somebody traded me that I knew was hacked and GTS didn't let me trade it, but a Pakia that was definitely a hack but with normal IV values and such wasn't banned.

Of course, it's possible Nintendo gets smarter and such but I wouldn't know. WOULDN'T KNOW AT ALL.

Hidden Power is based off your Pokemon IV, which is determined once you breed/catch whatever it. You can't change it. They vary by type and power.

You either have to soft reset before you catch something or just breed over and over again with good parents for a good long to get it.

Does Stealth Rock have a catch to it? If it can do damage to anything, then the combo I thought up would become invincible. I was hoping that wouldn't happen because then people might consider this combo illegal or something. :(

Great! I've already thought out my team. If it works, it's going to be nearly unbeatable. If it doesn't work, it's probably going to be a total waste of time building. Especially the breeding Aerodactyls part. It's taking forever because only 12.5% of Aerodactyls are females.

Does anyone have a Larvitar? I want one...I'll trade for like any Pearl-exclusive that I can get my hands on (and I will try hard to get anything you want!) or one of the three legendary fairy thingies. Or a female Aerodactyl so you can start the breeding process with it....

Stealth rock will hit anything, but it will do very little damage to anything that resists rock (and similarly it will do extra damage to anything weak to rock.)

I feel I should warn you, though, there are no "nearly unbeatable" teams, and if you think you have one, it probably just means you're inexperienced in competitive battling.

Just picked this game up a few days ago (Diamond by the way) and I'm liking what I see. For the first time I've also been bothered to look at the current metagame. I had no idea about overused, ubers, between tiers etc.

At the moment, I'm just about to enter that Pokemon staple known as Victory Road. Feeling a bit underleveled though, my highest leveled Pokemon is only level 47 and thats my Empoleon.

40s is fine for victory road, you'll spend time leveling them there and when you get to the E4 you can just level your way through them until you can make it to the champ.

Yeah, with some good strategy and a well-constructed team, you should be able to plow through the champ with most of your pokemon in the upper 40s.

I beat them with Tail Glowing Manaphy the last time.

Thanks for the support TK and Prak, I managed to scrape through the Elite 4 + Champion a few hours ago. The pyschic guy (I don't recall his name) probably gave me the most trouble - the attack 'Pyschic' can be a pain. My Empoleon, Luxray and Dialga even struggled against the champion - Milotic inparticular was quite hard to beat.

I'll probably try to make a competetive battling team now, I've heard good things about Blissey and Skarmory.

Gible is in the basement of the Wayward cave in both versions. I have Diamond as well. From the visible entrance of the cave, go down and left (not while inside the cave), under the cycle road, and look for a hidden entrance by pressing up against the north wall. Gible is a bit rare.

So guess what guys! There is a new simulator out that includes D/P: <a href=http://shoddybattle.com/>Shoddy Battle</a>. It runs on Java and is very incomplete at the moment (plenty of moves are either missing or glitchy), but it is usable and a lot of stuff works right. I've been having a lot of fun with it as I've been dying to test out ideas for movesets and EV spreads I've had but didn't want to make in-game because I didn't know if they'd work. So far my mixed attacking life orb Lucario is working pretty well, though I don't think I've played anyone very good yet. I also managed to KO two Pokemon and badly hurt a third with my taunting and CMing Mismagius. Even Blissey couldn't stop it because no chance to use softboiled! Unfortunately it did not fare so well against DD Gyarados. =(

So anyway check it out if you like and maybe we could have a battle or two. I can already tell that I like the D/P metagame much more than ADV. It moves faster and stalling doesn't really happen much if at all.

As I said, Munchlax isn't in the list of Ditto mate-able pokes, at least in the Prima Pokedex. Further, its entry states "egg has never been discovered."

Munchlax isn't in because it's a baby Pokemon. You have to evolve into into a Snorlax to breed it.

I never battled anyone using that strategy either, and I'm not quite sure if Foresight+Close Combat would work. WonderGuard only negates damaging moves like Close Combat and FlameThrower, but the pokemon itself is still vulnerable to moves such as Toxic or Will-o-Wisp and Weather conditions such as Sandstorm and Hail. I wouldn't label it as cheating, I think it just forces the opponent to use non-damaging moves just like Taunt forces the opponent to use damaging moves only. I'm pretty sure Nintendo foresaw the abuse of this strategy, but neglected to act on it due to the fact that it isn't unstoppable.

About EV training....how does it work? After feeding my Typhlosion 10 Calciums and 10 Carboses, how many Gloom and Staravia must I battle to reach Typhlosions maximum Sp.Attack and Speed? (Assuming Typhlosion is holding a Macho Brace)
Gloom = 2 'Effort Points' in Sp.Attack + Macho Brace = 4
Staravia = 2 'Effort Points' in Speed + Macho Brace = 4
How many 'Effort Points' equal an EV point, and how can I tell if I'm EV training my Pokemon correctly?

Well I can't really find a way of seeing it in-game, so I tend to note it down in a notebook somewhere where I am with EV's on each of my pokemon. However, I tend to prefer splashing dollars on the vitamins.

For the vitamins, I'm not sure but I think you can only add a maximum of 10 of same vitamin, plus the fact that you have to use it on a fresh pokemon, who has not yet went into a battle.

To answer y'all's questions:

EVs or Effort points are ontained through battle like mentioned, and having a macho brace doubles the amount gained from battle. You may notice an increase in your pokemon's stats after level up or after dumping them in a PC box. For every 4 EVs gained, the stat that gained these points will go up by one point, meaning if you defeat two staravias with a buizel, your buizel's max speed stat will increase by one point. A pokemon can have up to 255 points (+63 to that stat), though you want to avoid going over 252 because you'll waste three points by going to 255 (252 divides evenly by four and 255 doesn't, so three points will not contribute). Any pokemon can have a maximum of 510 EV points altogether. For typhlosion, for example, it would be typical to give it 252 points into speed and 252 into SpAtk, with the remaining four into HP or something.

Vitamins each give 10 EVs to a stat as long as there aren't already 100 EVs in a stat. If you give your Typhlosion 10 Carbos and 10 Calciums, it will have 25 addtitional points on speed and 25 on SpAtk. You can still give 10 of any vitamin to any stat even if there is already 9 EVs in that stat (if there is nine, then after, let's say, 9 Carbos there will be 99 speed EVs, so then you can still give one more carbo - not that this actually matters or anything, just giving you the math so you understand better). You can give 10 vitamins to more than one stat to a maximum of 51 total vitamins (which equals 510 EVs), but I do not recommend this.

DragonWings mentions the easiest way of keeping track of EVs - write 'em down. Additionally, a power item (obtainable at battle tower) such as a power anklet will not only double EVs but add +4 EVs to a stat at level up. The power anklet, for example, gives +4 Speed EVs at level up. So again, you go and beat up four staravias with the power anklet on and your pokemon will get 20 EVs to its speed stat. (4 staravia x 2 Spd EV each x 2 + 4 from power anklet = 20 Spd EVs)
