Alrighty, lets get this going and see what happens. I have randomly drawn off all 128 bands, and only 1 will remain when its said and done. Its simple, vote for the band you want, BOLD your choice, and please give a reason why you've chosen that band.
Mention outstanding songs, albums, things like that. Remember, everyone can find and discover new music in this. Also, if you havent heard of one(or both bands) do make an effort to find some of their work to try. last.fm, torrents or something like that will help in this.
Battle 1:
Opeth: Opeth is an extreme progressive metal band from Sweden. Opeth adds several lighter elements to their music with acoustic guitar interludes, and influences from jazz, 1970s progressive rock, blues and folk on top of a fast, churning death metalesque sound.
Nominated by dr.tchocky(Pop Rocks).
vs
Jamiroquai: Jamiroquai was initially the most prominent component in the early-1990s London-based acid jazz movement, alongside groups such as Incognito, the Brand New Heavies, Galliano, and Corduroy. Subsequent albums have explored other musical directions.
Nominated by Ebichu.
Oh boy, JK is pretty cool and I grew up watching Virtual Insanity on the TV, and all those Lambos :swoon:. But Opeth is top-drawer and easily secures my vote. Easily the best Melodic Death Metal band out there. Albums like Blackwater Park, Deliverence and Still Life are a must for any metal fan.

Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds:Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds is a successful rock/post-punk band with international personnel. It was originally formed in 1984 by two former members of the Australian band The Birthday Party: Nick Cave (singer, songwriter) and Mick Harvey (drums). They were joined by Einstrzende Neubauten member Blixa Bargeld (guitar), Hugo Race (guitar), and former Magazine member Barry Adamson (bass, piano). With this line-up, the band recorded and released their debut album, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds - From Her To Eternity (1984).
Nominated by Trent.
Gwen Stefani:Gwen Rene Stefani Rossdale (born October 3, 1969) is an American singer, songwriter, fashion designer, and frontwoman of the ska/rock band No Doubt. One of her first breaks came when she performed a duet with Sublime. Stefani first experienced mainstream success with the release of 1995's Tragic Kingdom, which spawned hits such as Just a Girl, Spiderwebs, and Don't Speak. Follow-up albums did not match the sales of Tragic Kingdom, but were successful on different levels of popularity and genre.
Nominated by Gina.

Battle Three:
The Lillingtons: The Lillingtons (1995-2001, 2006-present) are a rock and roll band from Newcastle, Wyoming who made a mark on the world of punk rock. Considered a pop punk act by contemporaries, they self-released their first full-length album titled Shit Outta Luck in 1996. After a series of vinyl-only releases the band decided to change their sound, and in 1999 they went into the studio with legendary producer-engineer Mass Giorgini to record a new LP. The result was Death By Television, an album which took sci-fi movie-themed songs such as "War Of The Worlds" and "Invasion Of The Saucermen" and combined them with tracks that made references to other schlocky retro themes, such as "X-Ray Specs" and "I Need Some Brain Damage". The band would spent the next two years touring heavily within the underground punk scene.
Nominated by T66
vs
Black Sabbath: Black Sabbath are an English heavy metal band from Birmingham. The original band line up of Ozzy Osbourne (vocals), Tony Iommi (guitar), Terence "Geezer" Butler (bass), and Bill Ward (drums) is the same as the current line up (2007) although there have been shifts of personnel in between. Black Sabbath remain a dominant influence in the genre they helped create. VH1's 100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock ranks them second, behind Led Zeppelin
Nominated by Kailas.

The Frames: band based mainly in Dublin. As of late 2004, the band consists of Glen Hansard (vocals, guitar), Joe Doyle (bass guitar, vocals), Colm Mac Con Iomaire (violin, keyboard and vocals), Rob Bochnik (lead guitar) and Johnny Boyle (drums). Various people played drums during 2004, including Graham Hopkins who drummed on Dance the Devil, Burn the Maps and the band's latest album The Cost. On both versions of the album Fitzcarraldo the band went by the moniker "The Frames DC", to avoid confusion with a United States band. The band has existed since 1990 and is a survivor of Dublin's prolific early 90s rock and roll scene.
Nominated by me.
vs
PJ Harvey: Polly Jean Harvey, born October 9, 1969 in yeovil and raised in nearby corscombe (dorset), is a British singer-songwriter. She has recorded as a solo artist under the name PJ Harvey, but she began her career as part of a trio (with drummer Rob Ellis and bassist Steve Vaughan) also named PJ Harvey. Early material released by the trio on "Dry," "4 Track Demos," and "Rid of Me" was praised by critics for its raw blues and punk influenced lo-fi rock sound and dark, witty lyrics. After the trio broke up, Harvey released "To Bring You My Love," a blues-heavy album that expanded the range of her sound through the incorporation of strings, organs, and electronic sound effects. Her stage show became more theatrical, with Harvey performing in ballgowns, pink catsuits, wigs and garish and vampirish make-up.
Nominated by Ktulu.

Their albums have sold in colossal numbers; the total is now estimated at well over 150 million copies worldwide, with the 1980 album Back In Black selling over 21 million in the US alone and 40+ million world wide. The band has had two distinctive lead singers, and fans tend to divide its history into the "Bon Scott era (1974-80)" and the "Brian Johnson era (1980-present)".

The Unicorns: The montreal-based Unicorns were originally formed in December 2000 by Nicholas Thorburn (stage name Nick "Neil" Diamonds, as well as a host of other aliases) and Alden Penner (stage name, Alden Ginger; Elvis Presley's fiance when he died was Ginger Alden). Dream Theater: Dream Theater (often abbreviated to DT) is a progressive metal and rock band, formed by three students at the Berklee College of Music in 1985. In the twenty years since their inception, they have become one of the most commercially successful progressive bands since the height of progressive rock in the mid-1970s, despite being relatively unknown in mainstream pop and mainstream rock circles. Their two highest selling albums are 1992's "Images and Words", which was awarded a gold record and is consistently regarded as a seminal progressive metal release; and 2005's deeply conceptual "Octavarium".

Cher: Cher (born Cherilyn Sarkisian on May 20, 1946) is an American actress and singer of Armenian descent (from father's side). She rose to prominence in the 1960s as a member of the duo Sonny & Cher, then as a solo artist when the duo ended in 1974. She has sold over 100 million records worldwide since the start of her solo career. In a career that has now surpassed 40 years, Cher has established herself as a pop icon. She is one of the most enduring entertainers of her time, having sold over 100 million records.

The drummer may have immense, unmatchable talent to your ears but I've heard better to my ears: Paice, Vinny Appice and Cozy Powell. Nobody has the same set of years so in the end it's a matter of opinion.
The Vocalist is the same kind of thing but slightly different, I don't like his voice at all, again I've heard much better, better IMO that is: Ronnie James Dio, Joe Lynn Turner, Bruce Dickinson, Rob Halford, Ian Gillan.
The drummer just fails to stand out to me, that's why I missed him out, it's all opinion in the end, it's not as if you'd get shot for thinking otherwise. I think...
The Keyboard + Guitar combos in DT remind me of 80's Deep Purple after Blackmore left (Steve Morse sucks, bad btw, so it's not hard to black him out)

Tool: Tool is a progressive rock band from Los Angeles, California. Tool is most noted for combining hard rock with progressive structures, strange time signatures and lyrics that range from anger to philosophical matters. Currently the band consists of: Danny Carey (Drums), Justin Chancellor (Bass), Adam Jones (Guitar) and Maynard James Keenan (Vocals). Formerly included Paul d'Amour (Bass) who left the band over "creative differences."
vs
Django Reinhardt: Django Reinhardt (1910-1953) was a gypsy jazz guitarist from Belgium, who managed to develop a highly individual and virtuosic style of jazz guitar despite losing the use of two fingers in a caravan fire. His guitar wizardry and ear for melody has provided the standard against which many modern gypsy jazz guitarists (such as Martin Taylor) are compared today. Reinhardt was also a member of Quintette du Hot Club de France, where he played with violinist Stphane Grappelli. He has been highly influential, particularly to the worlds of jazz and guitar, and has been cited as an influence by the likes of Chet Atkins, Les Paul, Carlos Santana and Charlie Christian, to name but a few.

Battle 9:
Bob Dylan: Bob Dylan (born Robert Allen Zimmerman on May 24, 1941) is an American singer-songwriter, musician and poet whose enduring contributions to American song are often compared, in fame and influence, to those of Stephen Foster, Irving Berlin, Woody Guthrie, and Hank Williams. His place in American and European culture in the 1960s through to the present is unique. Much of Dylan's best known work is from the 1960s, when he became an informal documentarian and reluctant figurehead of American unrest. Some of his songs, such as "Blowin' in the Wind" and "The Times They Are A-Changin'", became anthems of the anti-war and civil rights movements.
The Underwolves: The Underwolves shot to fame with their genre-bending '96 single "Nine Lives" on Dorado sub Filter (home to DJ Q and The Amalgamation Of Soundz) and were promptly signed to Island. Unfortunately, their debut album Under Your Sky languished in major label limbo while Island was bought out not once but twice (the label is now under the Universal umbrella). Finally reunited with their work, the Wolves approached Munich's Jazzanova. With their keen ear for the unique, the German collective of nu-jazz DJs, producers, and remixers was more than happy to release the album on their JCR imprint.
Never even heard of the Underwolves, so Bob Dylan by default.

Tokyo Jihen: (Tokyo Jihen) The Tokyo Incidents is a Japanese band created by Shiina Ringo, after leaving her solo career. The band's debut single was released in September 2004. Shiina had always wished to work with a band and selected her band members while working on her last album, Karuki Zamen Kuri no Hana. The tour band was first introduced as Tokyo Jihen during her Sugoroku Ecstasy tour, featuring guitarist Hirama, PE'Z keyboardist HZM, drummer Hata, and familiar bassist Kameda.
vs
Frank Zappa: Frank Vincent Zappa (December 21, 1940 - December 4, 1993) was an American composer, guitarist, singer and satirist. In his 33-year musical career, Zappa proved to be one of the most prolific musician-composers of his era, releasing over 75 albums (including live performances) during his lifetime, almost all of which consisted of original compositions. He was also a renowned electric guitarist and a gifted producer-engineer who self-produced almost every recording he made after his 1966 debut.

Battle 10:
Weird Al Yankovic: Alfred Matthew "Weird Al" Yankovic (born October 23, 1959) is an American musician best known for his parodies of contemporary radio hits. His lyrics depend largely on the satirizing of popular culture including television, movies, food, music, and news stories. Though parodies earned him his fame, Yankovic has recorded a greater number of humorous songs with original tunes. Some of these pieces are pastiches (or style parodies), where he chooses a band's entire body of work to emulate rather than any single hit. Most of his albums include a medley which juxtaposes the choruses of various songs in a polka style to accordion music.
vs
The Andrews Sister: The Andrews Sisters were a group of singing sisters: LaVerne Andrews (contralto; July 6, 1911-May 8, 1967), Maxene Anglyn Andrews (high harmony; January 3, 1916-October 21, 1995) and Patti Andrews (lead; born February 16, 1918). All were born in Minnesota to a Greek immigrant father and a Norwegian American mother. “Patty Andrews, the lead singer of the Andrews sisters group was born in Mound, Minnesota on February 16, 1918 in a house that occupied the property where The Gillespie Center stands today.

Clap Your Hands Say Yeah!: Clap Your Hands Say Yeah is a Brooklyn and Philadelphia based indie-rock band consisting of Alec Ounsworth, Lee Sargent, Robbie Guertin, Tyler Sargent, and Sean Greenhalgh. All the band members attended Connecticut College,in New London, CT. Their debut album, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, recorded by Adam Lasus (Yo La Tengo - Genius + Love = Yo La Tengo/Helium - The Dirt of Luck), was self-released in 2005, receiving attention from numerous MP3 blogs and a favorable review from Pitchfork Media, who gave the band a "Best New Music" commendation. The ensuing demand for the album was so great that the band was visibly forced to repress the CD, as the initial production run was too small. David Bowie and David Byrne have recently been spotted at some of the band's shows, garnering them even more press. Most recently, they received praise from Rolling Stone as the 'Hot New Band' for 2005. On October 3, 2005, they were signed to Wichita Recordings in the UK.
vs
Jeff Buckley: Jeff Buckley (17 November 1966 - 29 May 1997) was the son of musician Tim Buckley and Mary Guibert. The influences of artists as diverse as dith Piaf, Nina Simone, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, and Led Zeppelin may be found in Buckley's music. His textured, dynamic voice and personal, powerful lyrics, commanding stage presence, and rich and unique orchestration have made his 1994 debut album Grace, regarded by many as a modern rock classic. Highlights include 'Last Goodbye', 'Lover, You Should've Come Over', and his cover version of Leonard Cohen's 'Hallelujah'. Jeff passed away in a drowning accident in the Wolf River, a Memphis, Tennessee tributary of the Mississippi River, on May 29, 1997.

Super Furry Animals: Formed in Cardiff, Wales in 1993 by Gruff Rhys (lead vocals, guitar), Huw "Bunf" Bunford (guitar, vocals), Guto Pryce (bass), Cian Ciaran (keyboards, electronics) and Dafydd Ieuan (drums), Super Furry Animals (also known as "SFA", the "Furries" and the "Super Furries") are a welsh rock band, with leanings towards psychedelic rock and electronic experimentation.

Her debut album Norah Jones - Come Away With Me sold 18 million copies worldwide and won 8 Grammy Awards in 2003. Her second album, Norah Jones - Feels Like Home, with folk tendency, is the highest-selling album in the history of Blue Note Records with over a million copies sold within the first week. Battle 14:
Rage Against the Machine: Rage Against The Machine is an American rock band noted both for its diligent political conscience and for its blend of hard rock and rap. By the time point of the band's break-up in 2000, Rage Against the Machine had become one of the most popular political hard rock bands of all time, and certainly of the 1990s. Following the break-up of the band, Tom Morello, Tim Commerford, and Brad Wilk formed Audioslave with singer Chris Cornell, formerly of Soundgarden, which recently disbanded. The band is now at least temporarily reunited for a series of concerts. Rage Against the Machine drew inspiration from early metallic instrumentation, as well as rap acts such as Public Enemy, and Afrika Bambaataa.
vs
Grandaddy: Solar-powered space pop combo Grandaddy was formed in Modesto, CA in 1992 by singer/guitarist/keyboardist Jason Lytle, bassist Kevin Garcia, and drummer Aaron Burtch; although a noisy, lo-fi approach characterized early recordings like 1994's Grandaddy - Complex Party Come Along Theories, with the 1995 additions of guitarist Jim Fairchild and keyboardist Tim Dryden the group's sound expanded exponentially over the course of subsequent efforts including the unreleased Grandaddy - Don't Sock the Tryer and the 1996 EP Grandaddy - A Pretty Mess By This One Band.
