And you've reached the 1,000 gil mark. A very good spot to be at because you won't be leaving with less than that. Of course, I would expect though that you would want to play for more than that, so we continue for 2000 gil...

Which of the following music pieces is not from the original soundtrack for this game?

Ok Agent I await your return.

Agent0042
02-27-2007, 10:07 PM
All right, since you replied, I'll just go ahead and make a new post. Going for 4000 gil now...

Which of the following is not said by Kuja?

A.) "That is the dimension in which we are meant to live, as beings that transcend life and death!"
B.) "I will present you a marvelous display of my power. I am certain that you will be most pleased."
C.) "Its beauty becomes the great mother tree that lives among the stars!"
D.) "It appears we were destined to meet again."

M~C~P
02-27-2007, 10:53 PM
I'm going to use the Switch the question lifeline please.

Agent0042
02-28-2007, 04:57 AM
All right, we'll do that. Let's Switch the Question, getting rid of the current one and replacing it with one for the same gil value. I'll take care of the previous question first by revealing the correct answer. It was A.) "That is the dimension in which we are meant to live, as beings that transcend life and death!" Garland said that, not Kuja.

Trying this again, for 4,000 gil:

Looks like this one is a visual-oriented one. Which of these images is from the FMV Observing Lindblum? Is it:

A.)
B.)
C.)
D.)

Which of the following does not speak in the ATE "Baku And His Crew:"

A.) Cinna
B.) Blank
C.) Marcus
D.) Baku himself

M~C~P

Trapped, petrified, not around. That brings you up to 8,000 gil, which opens up the Ask Google/GameFAQs/FFShrine Main Site/etc. lifeline to you, which you can use to check any one document found from one of those to help you answer a question.

Trying a 16,000 gil question now...

When Kuja takes Eiko to Esto Gaza, Zidane wonders what he wants with her. The first thing Cid says in response to this is:

A.) He must be after her power <ribbit>...

D.) It can't be for anything good <ribbit>...

C.) His motives are unclear ...
D.) It can't be for anything good ...

No, I'm sorry, it was actually C.) His motives are unclear .... Well, you leave with a thousand gil and thanks for playing. You were a great contestant!

All right, this game is going to take a short hiatus, perhaps until after the weekend. I'd like to take a bit of a break from this. In the meantime, I'd like to encourage people to sign up for the "Twenty One" game over in the FFVIII section. I could definitely use some more players for it.

Agent0042

Not for a long time. So far, nobody has played twice. It is possible it might happen eventually, but I wouldn't be able to say anymore than that.

Possibly not at all, I suppose, considering it looks like you went and got yourself banned. I'm not sure I even wanna know how that happened.

03-07-2007, 12:08 AM
Shoot. That is the correct answer, but ROKI, you're not eligible currently. You've already played. I guess I should have made that a bit more clear. I still want people that haven't played before for right now.

All right, let's just try this again. Going with another Fastest Finger question of a similar nature:

Place the following music pieces in the order in which they can first be heard in the game:

A.) Mountain Pass - Conde Petie
B.) Frey/ija's Theme
C.) Feel My Blade
D.) The Four Medallions

Agent0042
03-09-2007, 11:34 PM
All right, here's the deal. We are moving to Tournament of Champions Edition. This tournament is open to any previous player who won a total of at least 32,000 gil in their first game. ROKI, that includes you. Basic gameplay is going to be the same, but the questions are going to be more difficult out of the game and you only get the regular lifelines, not any of the bonus ones that kick in at later gil values. Participation will be on a first-come, first-served basis, so if you know you're a previous winner of 32,000 gil or more, get in there quick. Leaderboard is on the first page. After this is over, if there's anyone else that wants to play, they can have a shot, but otherwise, it may be time for this to come to an end.

For 100 gil...

In this game, summons are learned by:

A.) Completing important plot points
B.) Winning a battle against the summon
C.) Equipping an accessory
D.) Equipping materia

ROKI
03-10-2007, 12:48 AM
Im a bit confused Agent, now who is playing? Barretboy?

Agent0042
03-10-2007, 12:50 AM
barretboy --- I decided to just make it first-come, first-serve, and barretboy was the first to sign up. I'll sign you up to be on after barretboy, though, if that's all right. If anyone else that won 32,000 gil or more wants to sign up, feel free to post it at anytime.

barretboy14
03-10-2007, 11:43 AM
I thought all previous winners were pitted against each other. :)

Maybe an idea for the future?

As for the question, I'm pretty damn sure the answer is

C.) Equipping an accessory

You do need to complete certain points in the plot but that doesn't automatically give you the summon, you still need to equip the jewel.

ROKI
03-10-2007, 12:27 PM
No problem Agent, I was just a bit confused :) Gd luck barretboy

Agent0042

A.) Clowns On A Dark Night
B.) The Rally
C.) Vivi's Shopping
D.) Treno Tradition

barretboy14
03-11-2007, 01:50 AM
C.) Vivi's Shopping

As far as I remember you just get a free kupo nut. You don't need it but it helps later on in the game. You definatly have to do clowns on a dark night as thats the jesters. ATE's are easily my weakness. :crosses fingers:

Agent0042
03-11-2007, 02:28 AM
Wrong

Wow, no, I'm sorry. The Vivi's Shopping ATE actually is mandatory. You need to have the kupo nut because it's necessary in order to free the moogle that's "Kupo for kupo nuts" so you can get the bell to progress in the game. The correct answer was actually D.) Treno Tradition. This ATE is totally optional --- the Treno tradition is pickpocketing. If you select this ATE, Dagger gets her pocket picked, but it opens up the opportunity to get an accessory later on. It's totally optional, though.

A shocker, barretboy14 leaves the Champions Edition with nothing.

ROKI, if you're ready to check in, we can begin your game.

B.) Monev
C.) Morrison
D.) Chimomo

ROKI
03-13-2007, 02:01 PM
This is too risky to guess so I go for Switch the Question

Agent0042
03-13-2007, 06:42 PM
Whew, all right. I'll Switch the Question on this one. First, let's take care of the previous question. The correct answer was B.) Monev. He's a save moogle and has mail for Mognet, the other three are all Madain Sari moogles.

Trying again for 1000 gil...

In Daguerreo, there's sales clerk and young man that are having a debate. There are a total of three and you're asked to choose who you agree with. If you side with the young man the most, you get a Flare card. Which card do you get if you agree with the sales clerk the most?

Agent0042

Well, Ceidwad_yr_Arfau is up next in the queue for the Champions Edition, so Ceidwad, if you're ready, we can begin.

Agent0042
03-16-2007, 08:49 PM
Champions Edition only right now, Enya --- you had to have won at least 32000 gil the first time to qualify. I'd be glad to have you in first thing though once that's over.

For right now, we welcome Ceidwad_yr_Arfau back to the Hot Seat. He was one of the earliest players and won 250000 gil.

Let's get going! For 100 gil...

Which of the following characters had a long-lost lover who like her was a dragon knight?

A.) Eiko Carol
B.) Freya Crescent

Well, kudos to you Kaeso Brutius for getting the right answer, but perhaps slightly less credit for ignoring the rules and posting an answer when you aren't in the hotseat.

I believe it's in the rules that I'm allowed to use that answer anyway Agent?

I'll go for C.

Agent0042
03-16-2007, 11:35 PM
Well, I tried to get to that in time, but I don't know if it worked or not. Ceidwad?

Edit: Yeah, it's down in the rules. You got yourself a freebie. Stand by...

C.) Flare and Meteor, Correct

Ceidwad

So I'll go with A, please.

Fanboyishness will get you far. You're not very far yet, you have 300 gil, but you're going for 500, 12 questions away from the million gil.

A.) Taharka

A.) Lost Continent
B.) Outer Continent
C.) Mist Continent
D.) Forgotten Continent

Ceidwad
03-17-2007, 08:32 PM
This one's a baffler, as I'm sure they were all continents in the game........

What lifelines do I have?

Agent0042
03-18-2007, 12:24 AM
It's a baffler because I screwed up and by the time I realized it, I was already AFK and didn't have a chance to get back on. We'll pull it and replace it with another at no cost of a lifeline.

For 1000 gil...

Who says the following --- "You're not a very creative interrogator."

A.) Baku
B.) Morrid
C.) Kuja
D.) Beatrix

Oh, and for the record, your lifelines are 50:50, Switch the Question and Phone a Friend. (No others for Champions Edition.)

Ceidwad
03-18-2007, 03:21 AM
I'm pretty sure that's Morrid while Steiner is asking him about the airship in Dali.

Given the importance of the question, I'll go 50:50 please.

Agent0042
03-18-2007, 03:54 AM
All right, we'll put this one on 50:50, leaving one wrong answer and the correct answer:

Who says the following --- "You're not a very creative interrogator."

A.) Baku
B.) Morrid

Ceidwad
03-18-2007, 01:59 PM
Ack balls, it was between Baku and Morrid, but I'm not using any other lifelines at this stage, so let's go for Morrid.

B) Morrid

Agent0042
03-18-2007, 10:16 PM

Your instincts were right. It's one of my favorite lines in the game, really, mainly because of Steiner's reaction to it.

All right, you've reached 1000 gil, so you can't leave with less than that. Let's continue with a 2000 gil question...

Which of the following is the river that flows right by the South Gate? It's one of the locations you have to view from the telescope at the top of Lindblum Grand Castle. Zidane comments that "You can get to the gate by walking along the river."

A.) Yawlny River
B.) Aerbs River
C.) King Ed River
D.) Ceebell River

Ceidwad
03-19-2007, 04:04 PM
Yeah, Steiner's reaction was quality, as was Steiner's scripting in general throughout.

Well, this is a difficult question.

Aerbs Mountains and King Ed Plains are both locations in the game, which leads me to believe the river may be named after them. Yawlny rings a bell with FFVIII as in Yawlny Canyon(?) on the Galbadia Continent. However, it's possible they may have regurgitated the name in FFIX, so I can't rule that out.

Ceebell is the only one that does not ring any bells with me.

If pushed, I'd say Aerbs river, because the Aerbs Mountains and South Gate link Lindblum to Alexandria. King Ed Plains is in Burmecia as far as I know.

I think I'll take a chance on it and say B.) Aerbs River. I'm only about 80% confident, but as I can't leave with less than 1000 gil I may as well go for it and I would prefer to save my lifelines for a question where I am totally clueless.

B.) Aerbs River it is, please.

Agent0042
03-20-2007, 12:36 AM
Wrong

All of your logic was pretty much right, except that, well, the river is the Ceebell River.

Well, you leave with 1000 gil. Alexandria12, you're up next if you're ready to claim your spot.

Alexandria12
03-20-2007, 02:19 AM
I'm ready to play!

Ceidwad
03-20-2007, 01:26 PM
Damn. That will teach me to use my lifelines in future.

Oh well, thanks Agent and best of luck to you Alexandria12.

Agent0042
03-20-2007, 11:10 PM
All right, Alexandria12, let's play. Remember, only the big three lifelines for Champions Edition --- 50:50, Phone a Friend and Switch the Question.

For 100 gil...

At the very beginning of the game, what does the Rat Kid want out of Vivi?

A.) For him to find a very important person.
B.) For him to be his slave.
C.) For him to perform in his show.
D.) For him to leave and never come back.

C.) Cleyra
D.) Gizamaluke

Alexandria12
03-21-2007, 03:17 AM

The strange effect of Ipsen's Castle when it comes to battles is that:

A.) All physical attacks take twice as long to perform.
B.) By default, all monsters have Reflect status.
C.) The more you attack a monster, the lesser the damage becomes.
D.) Strong weapons are useless --- what are normally your characters' weakest weapons do the best damage.

Alexandria12
03-21-2007, 03:49 AM
D.) Strong weapons are useless --- what are normally your characters' weakest weapons do the best damage.

Funny story - seeing as FFIX was my first games of the series, and I hadn't played much outside of the platform/racing genre, I didn't take too many precautions on my first play through. I got into a habit of discarding most of my previous weapons whenever I got a new one, and ended up keeping only the two prior to my new weapon, at most.

Needless to say, I got screwed up real bad at Ipsens...and once synthesizing became available, LOL.

The ATE "Life Cycle" concerns which of the following:

A.) Vivi discusses the future of the black mages with Mr. 288.
B.) Garland considers the cycle of souls in relation to Terra.
C.) Quina wants the black mages to surrender their chocobo egg so s/he can eat it.
D.) Regent Cid reflects on the destruction of Lindblum.

Alexandria12
03-21-2007, 11:45 PM
I was debating using a lifeline on this, but after some more thought, I'm positive that Garland never has an ATE (or so I think). And I don't remember Vivi discussing the future of the black mages in an ATE. I think they only discuss what "stopping" is...which could be considered future. I don't recall Regent Cid reflecting on the destruction of Lindblum in an ATE. I thought that was always an in game event.

Oddly enough, the Quina one is the only one I distinctly remember. Maybe cause I thought it was so funny, haha.

Um...what the hell, why not. My final answer is:

C.) Quina wants the black mages to surrender their chocobo egg so s/he can eat it.

You worked it out, and yeah, it was funny. Quina is often amusing.

All right, now going for 2000 gil, ten questions away from the million...

Kuja's "secret palace" is buried on which side of the same continent as the Black Mage Village?

A.) Eastern
B.) Western
C.) Southern
D.) Northern

Alexandria12
03-22-2007, 10:40 PM
OK, I have an vague idea of which side it is. Even though this is basically a "freebie", I'm going to go with 50/50 and hope that the other one I'm debating about it knocked out!

Agent0042
03-22-2007, 10:51 PM
All right, let's put this one on 50:50:

Kuja's "secret palace" is buried on which side of the same continent as the Black Mage Village?

A.) Eastern
D.) Northern

Alexandria12

Yes! I was debating between East and South.

A.) Eastern

Which of the following is not a possible result of using Freya's Six Dragons ability:

A.) Nothing whatsoever happens
B.) HP/MP of all party members is halved
C.) HP/MP of all party members is reduced to 1
D.) HP/MP of all party members is fully restored

Alexandria12
03-23-2007, 01:57 PM
Ugh, I'm gonna use another lifeline...this is getting desperate! Please Switch the Question!

Agent0042
03-23-2007, 08:58 PM
All right, I'll Switch the Question. We'll get rid of this question and go with a new one. First, let's reveal the correct answer --- it was B.) HP/MP of all party members is halved. (Yeah, it's a pretty unreliable skill.)

But you switched out of that one, so let's try another for 4,000 gil:

What is the name of the Card Freak in Lindblum?

A.) Gon
B.) Gerard
C.) Frank
D.) Olive

Alexandria12
03-23-2007, 10:35 PM
A.) Gon!

Whew! That paid off! I knew this one cause I was freaking addicted to the card game and I used to go to him all the time. And nab stuff from the treasure chests. And check up on the bird nest...

Agent0042
03-24-2007, 05:04 AM

Sixteen is also the age that Garnet becomes at the start of the game and the age at which eidolons can be extracted. Playing for 16000 gil now, two questions away from the next "safe" level. You still have one lifeline available to you --- your Phone a Friend. For 16000 gil...

Which of the following Blue Magics can Quina learn by eating a Yan?

A.) Mustard Bomb
B.) L5 Death
C.) Auto-Life
D.) Twister

Alexandria12
03-25-2007, 03:58 AM
I know it's definitely not A or B. Mustard Bomb might be from a Veppal or whatever that red, flying fish is. I think I got L5 Death from a Dracozombie. I know that Yan's use a Snort ability, but that's not really Twister.

Actually, I think you can get Twister from those red dragons in gulug mountain?

I'm gonna go with C.) Auto-Life. It was my gut feeling from the beginning because it's one of those abilities that's always considered pretty invaluable.

Agent0042
03-25-2007, 04:25 AM
Correct

Auto-Life can be learned a lot earlier in the game and you can learn as an ability, but if for some reason you don't have by that point, Quina can learn it from a Yan. And a useful ability it is to have against them.

Okay, you're doing really well, definitely a fair bit better than anyone has don on the Champions Edition so far. You're going for 32000 gil, a really great level to reach since if you get this, you can't leave with less than that. Let's see the question and the answer choices...

On the Key Item Moogle Suit, if you examine it in the inventory, there's a message from a grandma expressing that she feels the suit is "well-made" and that her granddaughter would love it. What's the name of the granddaughter?

A.) Daphne
B.) Ilia
C.) Tina
D.) Sally

Alexandria12
03-25-2007, 06:12 PM
B.) Ilia

Sorry, but that was so easy for me. Every time I was in Alexandria I would go in that house and speak to the grandma who was weaving. And I think Ilia's actually in the house down by the fisherman dock?

Agent0042
03-25-2007, 09:58 PM
Correct

Yeah, you're right. And after the devastation of Alexandria, Ilia expresses that she doesn't care whether or not she has new clothes, she's just happy that her family is alive.

All right, you've reached the 32000 gil mark, which means you can't leave with less than that. Going for 64000 gil now, five questions away from the million.

In the third floor area of Daguerreo, Zidane finds a number of books, one of which a scholar blocking a path is after. But which of the books that Zidane finds is the scholar after?

A.) Mist Engine Illustrated
B.) Beyond the Mist
C.) Book of Magic
D.) The Eidolon and I

Alexandria12
03-26-2007, 12:00 AM

I seem to recall the book titled D.) The Eidolon and I. Here's to hoping my memory is correct!!!

Sorry for making you wait so long on this one. Let's continue now with a question for 125000 gil...

Which of the following Tetra Master cards can only be attained by playing the Rare Phantom in Memoria?

A.) Frog
B.) Airship
C.) Mog
D.) Hades

Alexandria12
03-27-2007, 04:57 AM
Oh God, I think there was one that had an inventory of all frogs, but I'm not positive if that was the Rare Phantom. Weren't there around 4 phantoms that you could challenge?! Mmmm...I keep going back and forth between A and B...

I'm gonna use my last lifeline, Phone a Friend. I'll try BarretBoy14 since he was one of the millionaire winners and seems to have a good knowledge of the game!

Agent0042
03-27-2007, 09:02 PM
All right, let's do that. I'll get barretboy14 "on the line" --- I'll give him the question and the four possible answer choices and let's see if he can help out.

Agent0042
03-28-2007, 09:04 PM
Alexandria12 responded as follows:

I'm pretty sure that it is either Mog or Airship as I studied the locations for each cards for ages when I was trying to get every one (although I failed ). I know for sure that you can get the airship in a chocograph thing. It's a prize. So my answer whichI'm about 80% sure of is Mog. Good luck Alexandria your doing great!

So he seems to be leaning towards two answers, but with a strong probability on Mog, stating that Airship can be gained by Chocograph. So you can go with that, you could still go on your own, or you can walk with what you have currently.

Alexandria12
03-28-2007, 11:12 PM
Hmm, dammit. I wasn't even thinking about Mog.

Um...well, 80% is better than anything I was leaning towards, haha.

C.) Mog

Agent0042
03-29-2007, 12:43 AM
Correct

Nice one. Using that lifeline paid off, you're up to 125,000 gil. Three questions away from the million. Oh, and yeah, there were four phantoms around to challenge, but only the Rare Phantom carries the Mog card and it can't be gained by any other way.

All right, here we go. Trying for 250,000 gil...

Which of the following accessories, in addition to the special effect it provides, also raises magic-related stats (i.e. Magic, Magic Def., etc.), but not any others?

A.) Glass Buckle
B.) Promist Ring
C.) Maiden Prayer
D.) Feather Boots

You're out of lifelines, so no shame in walking away if you that's what you feel would be best to do. Even at this point, you've set a hard mark to beat for the Champions Edition.

Alexandria12
03-29-2007, 01:23 AM
Well, I think I'll bow out gracefully at this point. There are just too many things up there. I remember each accessory name, but I don't remember specific stats for them (other than Feather Boots cause that's an easy one, haha).

So, I think I'll stop here!

Thanks for giving me the opportunity to play again, Agent! And many thanks to Barretboy for getting me through that last question!!!!

Good luck to whoever is up next.

Agent0042
03-29-2007, 04:21 AM
All right, congrats on making it up to 125,000 gil. I must say, you did especially well, considering that you used two of the lifelines fairly early on. The answer was C.) Maiden Prayer --- it increases Magic, Magic Def. and Magic Eva. stats.

Here's where we're at right now --- all of the following are still eligible to join in for Champions Editions --- UltimateFFFan, noon, FF1WithAllThieves, MeruRikku and Almond Joy. If any of those are reading, now's your chance to play again. Just stop on by and let me know and you're in!

Agent0042

There's no new thread, and this one is done for. If somebody else wants to start a new one and can actually do a good job maintaining it, go ahead. But there's really no point to keep reviving this one.
