Okay, let's get started! Alexandria12 welcome to the Hot Seat!

Alexandria12 is with us now in the Hot Seat. He's from New Jersey. He joined us on the Shrine last month and is a moomba fan. He enjoys various interests such as movies and football.

D.) "Sephiroth sux!"

Alexandria12

And thanks, I'll keep that in mind.

Alexandria12

The summon obtained just before Queen Brahne's death, which turns out not to be helpful against Bahamut, is:

A.) Odin
B.) Madeen
C.) Leviathan
D.) Atomos

Alexandria12
12-22-2006, 07:21 PM
C.) Leviathan

I felt so bad for Garnet there. With that, she would've been directly linked to the death of her own mother :(

Agent0042
12-22-2006, 09:24 PM
<font color="red">Correct</font>

Well, you've reached the 1000 gil mark, which means you won't be leaving with less than that. You still have all your lifelines and if you reach certain gil values, some fantastic new lifelines will be kicking in.

For 2000 gil now...

Which of the following is not an actual location in this game?

A.) Conde Petie
B.) Esto Gaza
C.) Dalmasca
D.) Bran Bal

Alexandria12
12-22-2006, 09:27 PM

<font color="red">Correct</font>

That is indeed in FFXII. "I'm Captain Basch von Rosenberg of Dalmasca!" :D

Now, going for 4000 gil...

Which of the following would be a reasonable description of the events of Lindblum Falls FMV:

A.) Following an unsuccessful rescue attempt, Queen Brahne summons Odin to destroy Lindblum. Zidane, Dagger and Vivi can only watch in horror as the town is destroyed. Dagger attempts to use summon power, but it's meaningless against the destructive force they're witnessing.
B.) Following Zidane, Dagger and Vivis' exit from the area where they receive Ramuh, they watch on in horror as Queen Brahne uses the stolen summon power to wreak havoc on another town. The eidolon known as Atomos wreaks havoc, but spares the main palace and a good portion of the town.
C.) Following Zidane, Dagger and Steiners' exit from the area where they receive Ramuh, they watch on in horror as Queen Brahne uses the stolen summon power to wreak havoc on another town. The eidolon known as Atomos wreaks havoc, but spares the industrial district and a good portion of the main palace.
D.) Following Zidane, Dagger and Freyas' exit from the area where they receive Ramuh, they watch on in horror as Kuja commands an attack on Lindblum. His powerful summoning lays waste to the town, such that it will never be the same again.

Alexandria12
12-24-2006, 06:11 AM

When I first read this, I was stuck between B and C, but then I realized that C stated the Industrial District was spared, which is incorrect because after Atomos' attack the Industrial District is completely obliviated and inaccessable for the rest of the game.

In this Final Fantasy game, what role do the iconic characters Biggs and Wedge serve?

A.) Member of the Alexandrian military
B.) Biggs and Wedge do not appear in this Final Fantasy
C.) Servants of Kuja
D.) Nobles in Treno

Alexandria12
12-27-2006, 02:44 AM
Um........I'm gonna just dive recklessly into this one and guess:

B.) Biggs and Wedge do not appear in this Final Fantasy

I really don't remember them being in this game...which is weird cause IX had most other familiar references...

Agent0042
12-27-2006, 03:40 AM
<font color="red">Correct</font>

Despite this game being basically packed with references, Biggs and Wedge do not appear, making this the only major FF game since VI in which they don't show in some form or another.

You're playing for 16000 gil now and I'm pleased to announce you now have access to the Ask Google/GameFAQs/FFShrine Main Site/etc. lifeline. If you need to use this, you may consult any one document you find by browsing through the listings on one of those sites. All I ask is that once you choose one, you stick with it. If you want to use this, just go ahead and use it and let me know that you did.

Now, for 16000 gil...

From Artemicion to Mogrika
Mogrika! I’m in trouble...
I used too much.

What was it that Artemicion used too much of? Was that...

A.) Superslick
B.) Danphro's Tonic
C.) Unusual Potion
D.) Elixir

Alexandria12
12-27-2006, 04:45 AM
Oh this I know without a doubt. That would be:

A.) Superslick

Oh, and I never said it before, but I hope you had a great holiday season!

Thanks yeah, doing good.

Well, you now have access to Double Dip. If you use this, just give me two answers, if either is right, you advance.

Now if you get this right, you can't leave with less than this. For 32000 gil...

There's a ladder in the area with the married moogle couple. This leads to an area where you can fight Grand Dragons and Garudas (in the forest) really early in the game. This location appears in your menu as:

A.) Cazedil Plains
B.) Mosphoran Highlands
C.) Popos Heights
D.) Bentini Heights

Alexandria12
12-27-2006, 09:18 PM
I am going to request to use my 50/50 here. Hopefully that'll help me out enough to jolt the correct answer from within my mind!

Agent0042
12-27-2006, 09:28 PM
Okay, let's do that. Let's take away two of the wrong answers, leaving one wrong answer and the correct answer...

For 64000 gil now...

What are the names of the two Burmecian soldiers in the Active Time Event titled The Rally? Where those...

A.) Dan and Hans
B.) Doyle and Jones
C.) Doyle and Gray
D.) Tieran and Crawford

Alexandria12
12-28-2006, 06:36 AM
I think I'll ask you to Switch the Question on this one!

Agent0042
12-29-2006, 04:58 PM
Okay, sorry for the delay on this. Let's do that. We'll Switch the Question, replacing it with one I hope you'll consider to be of similar difficulty, but hopefully more suited to your knowledge of the game...

The correct answer for the previous question was C.) Doyle and Gray.

"Besides, I'm here to stop the person who is sending you off to fight!"
This line was said by...

A.) Zidane
B.) Freya
C.) Dagger / Garnet
D.) Cid

Alexandria12
12-29-2006, 11:49 PM
Zidane

I think he says that to black mages at some time...but I'm not sure.

And good thing I didn't stick with the other question, cause I thought Burmecian Soldier Dan was in that ATE.

Agent0042
12-30-2006, 02:14 AM
<font color="red">Wrong</font>

Ouch. You were right about the context of the quote, but you were wrong about who said it.

Dagger: Um... Excuse me...
Black Mage No. 32: Why are you here!?
Black Mage No. 192: This is our village!
Black Mage No. 32: Yeah!
Black Mage No. 192: You forced the little guy to guide you here, didn't you!? That's all you humans ever think about: using us!
Dagger: You mean about Vivi? That's not true! It's just that I was surprised to see black mages other than Vivi who could talk, so... Besides, I'm here to stop the person who is sending you off to fight!

Well, it was fun having you play the game, Alexandria12. You exit with 32000 gil.

And now, we go to another Fastest Finger question...

Place following Active Time Events by reverse order of when they appear in the game:

A.) It's So Big!
B.) Hungry Bryan
C.) My Fault
D.) Team

Alexandria12
12-30-2006, 08:10 AM

Let's get this started right away. For 100 gil...

Which of the following is an actual line from this game?

A.) Just one more thing. The people and the friends we have lost, or the dreams that have faded --- never forget them.
B.) Ooh soft!
C.) Because you are a puppet
D.) Dontcha wanta Fanta?

UltimateFFFan
12-31-2006, 10:17 AM
That'd have to be B) Ooh soft! as Zidane cops a feel of Daggers backside as they are climbing onto the cargo ship.

Agent0042
12-31-2006, 04:59 PM
<font color="red">Correct</font>

Any FFIX fan would know that line.

For 200 gil now...

The moogle who gives you tutorials is known as:

A.) Mogster
B.) Mog
C.) Mogrgana
D.) Kuja

UltimateFFFan
12-31-2006, 06:31 PM
Once again, easy the answer is A) Mogster from the "Teach me Mogster" ATE's

Agent0042
12-31-2006, 06:43 PM
<font color="red">Correct</font>

Moving along on this easy stuff now, for 300 gil...

The final, final boss in this game is:

A.) Kuja
B.) Garland
C.) Necron
D.) Sephiroth

UltimateFFFan
12-31-2006, 07:25 PM
hmmm, I was thinking D) Sephiroth for a while, like every other FFVII ZOMGFANBOY's would think, but no, I'm going with C) Necron

Agent0042
12-31-2006, 07:55 PM
<font color="red">Correct</font>

ROTFL.

Well, you've earned 300 gil and you're playing for 500 gil. One more question after this and you'll be assured if exiting with no less than 1000 gil.

So, for 500 gil...

The play that Tantalus performs at the beginning of the game is known as:

A.) Wishing Upon a Star
B.) I Want to Be Your Canary
C.) The Heart of a Princess
D.) A Day in the Life of Royalty

UltimateFFFan
12-31-2006, 07:57 PM
That's B) I want to Be Your Canary by Lord Avon

Agent0042
12-31-2006, 07:59 PM
<font color="red">Correct</font>

One more right answer here and you've got yourself 1000 gil!

Which of these is never a Friendly Monster?

A.) Ladybug
B.) Yan
C.) Mu
D.) Grand Dragon

UltimateFFFan

D) Grand Dragon

Agent0042
12-31-2006, 10:44 PM
<font color="red">Correct</font>

Well, you've reached the 1000 gil mark. From here on, the questions start getting a fair bit tougher, but remember, you have three lifelines to help and more kick in as you progress up the ladder.

Going for 2000 gil now...

The ATE Gwok-Gwok! How Infuriating is about what?

A.) Cid is infuriated by being an oglop. He wants to continue work his new airship, but can't because he just can't think well.
B.) Baku is infuriated by Cinna's antics. He seeks help from Regent Cid.
C.) Zidane and co. are infuriated by the Alexandrian military's treatment of Regent Cid.
D.) A group of Alexandrian soldiers are infuriated that Lindblum has "an oglop for a regent and buffoons for soldiers." Their commanding officer orders them to "Find the regent."

UltimateFFFan
01-01-2007, 02:22 AM
I remember this ATE fairly well, and as I remember it it's D). I can remember something to do with Cid being annoyed at being an oglop, though I don't think it was an ATE, so I'm going with D) A group of Alexandrian soldiers are infuriated that Lindblum has "an oglop for a regent and buffoons for soldiers." Their commanding officer orders them to "Find the regent."

Agent0042
01-01-2007, 04:00 AM

Which of the following is never used by Ozma?

A.) Mini
B.) Curse
C.) Meteor
D.) Ultima

UltimateFFFan
01-01-2007, 04:06 AM
Damn, a question I can't think of the answer to.... What were my lifeline options again?

Agent0042
01-01-2007, 04:10 AM
UltimateFFFan --- your lifeline options are all described in the very first post in the thread. Something I think everyone that's doing one of these should do. A quick review --- for the time being you have 50:50, Switch the Question and Phone (PM) a Friend available to you. If you need more detail, see the first post.

UltimateFFFan
01-01-2007, 09:51 AM
I think I'll use my 50:50, I'm fairly sure it's one of 2 answers so I'm hoping it will eliminate one of them.

Agent0042
01-01-2007, 04:15 PM
Okay, let's do that. Let's activate 50:50, taking away two wrong answers and leaving one wrong answer and the correct answer...

For 4000 gil... Which of the following is never used by Ozma?

B.) Curse
D.) Ultima

UltimateFFFan
01-01-2007, 05:09 PM
Oh I'm ashamed now... I've just realised how simple the answer was. The only person who ever casts Ultima in the game is Kuja during his Trance, therefore the answer is D) Ultima

Agent0042
01-01-2007, 05:36 PM
<font color="red">Correct</font>

Yeah, you figured out my little trick. All right, let's move on for 8000 gil now...

"A-Are you part of Amarant's posse?"

Who says this to who and in what Active Time Event?

A.) Four-armed Man to Dagger/Garnet in Pursuit
B.) Four-armed Man to Quina Quen in Memories by the Water
C.) Four-armed Man to Eiko Carol in City People
D.) Four-armed Man to Quina Quen in City People

UltimateFFFan
01-01-2007, 11:49 PM
Hmmmmm, I think it's D) because as I recall there's a line in City People where the Four-armed Man says: "Maybe Amarant hired him to look after the girl?" and I'm sure he's talking about Quina. So I'm going for D)

Agent0042
01-02-2007, 04:02 AM
<font color="red">Correct</font>

Yep, that's the one. He thought Quina was part of Amarant's "posse."

Okay, you've won 8000 gil, which means you just gained access to an exciting new lifeline --- Ask Google/GameFAQs/FFShrine Main Site/etc. If you want to use this, just go ahead and browse through of any those and then select any one document to consult and then let me know that you used it when answering the question.

For 16000 gil now...

Which of the following was not one of the signs Eiko told Professor Tot in regards to why he was a "nerdy philosopher?"

A.) His Beard
B.) His Nerdy Hat
C.) His Thick Eyeglasses
D.) His Way of Speaking

UltimateFFFan
01-02-2007, 04:07 AM
Oh this one is easy, I remember the line said by Eiko. It went something along the lines of:

"number 1, your beard, number 2, the thick eyeglasses, number 3, the nerdy hat, all signs of a nerdy philsopher"

So the answer I'm going for is D, Way of Speaking

Agent0042
01-02-2007, 05:01 AM
<font color="red">Correct</font>

While Doctor Tot may have a scholarly way of speaking, that wasn't one of the reasons Eiko gave as to why he was nerdy.

That's 16000 gil, so you now have access to Double Dip. If you want to use this, just go ahead and use it and select two answer choices you believe may be correct.

Well, you're playing for 32000 gil. If you get this right, you won't leave with less than that. Let's take a look at the 32000 gil question. Ah heck, let's go with another in the style of the last question...

When Amarant asks Zidane "What motivates you to do this?" which of these is not one of the three possible answers you can select? Is it:

A.) ... ... ...
B.) I don't know
C.) I do everything for Dagger
D.) To find out what Kuja is after

UltimateFFFan
01-02-2007, 11:21 AM
Ooooh, that's a toughie. I think I'm going to have to use my Ask GameFaqs lifeline. I'm going to use the game script faq.

After searching the game script, the answer is A) ... ... ...

Nice question Agent, hopefully they're all as interesting as that from now on.

Agent0042
01-03-2007, 01:14 AM
<font color="red">Correct</font>

Glad you found the question interesting. And yeah, "... ... ..." is really more of a Squall response.

dramatic music plays, lights go all exciting and then dim

Well, you've earned 32000 gil which means you can't leave with less than that. You're now just five questions away from one million gil.

Going now for 64000 gil...

At the end of the game, you can have a scene with Zidane and Lani in which she explains what became of her. What two party members must not be present in your party in order to trigger this?

A.) Amarant and Eiko
B.) Steiner and Garnet/Dagger
C.) Amarant and Garnet/Dagger
D.) Garnet/Dagger and Eiko

UltimateFFFan
01-03-2007, 01:29 AM
I remember this. It's in Madain Sari, you can only approach Lani if Amarant and Garnet are not in your party so I'm saying C) Amarant and Garnet/Dagger

Agent0042
01-03-2007, 04:03 AM
<font color="red">Correct</font>

Either Amarant or Garnet will cause her not to be there, probably because of her history with either character.

Okay, that's 64000 gil, which means you've now gained access to Ask the Experts. So all the lifelines you haven't already used are now in play. You're going for 125000 gil now. Let's take a look...

The Ragtime Mouse asks a series of trivia questions. Which of these isn't a correct question/answer combination? (In other words, somewhere in here, I either made up the question, or an actual question is paired with the wrong answer.):

A.) The Theater ship Prima Vista uses Mist as its energy. --- True
B.) The 15th Lindblum War started in 1600. --- True
C.) Burkmea Cable Cars have been running for 8 years. --- True
D.) "I Want To Be Your Canary" was written by Lord Afon. --- False

UltimateFFFan
01-03-2007, 04:28 AM
That's D)

I remember this one specifically because I answered true then thought noooo! it was Lord Avon not Afon

EDIT: Hold on, should your post read isn't a correct question/answer combination?

Agent0042
01-03-2007, 04:42 AM
Yes, it should have. And so you get the freebie on that one --- yes, D.) is not the correct answer.

UltimateFFFan
01-03-2007, 11:13 AM
Hmmmm, hold on. There's a question in the game about the 15th Lindblum War, and I'm fairly certain it started in 1601, and therefore the answers false, so I'm going to go for B)

Agent0042
01-03-2007, 04:30 PM
<font color="red">Correct</font>

And I was glad you caught the mistake before it ended up causing any major problems. Good eye.

The eidolon Carbuncle can be customized to cast a number of protective statuses on your party, depending on which gem you have equipped. Which of the following is a correct name / ability / gem combination?

A.) Moonstone / Pearl Light / Vanish
B.) Ruby / Ruby Light / Shell
C.) Emerald / Emerald Light / Shell
D.) Moonstone / Pearl Light / Protect

UltimateFFFan
01-03-2007, 08:41 PM
I can do this from the process of elimination:

It isn't A) as Diamond Light causes Vanish
It isn't B) as Ruby Light causes Reflect
It isn't C) as Emerald Light casts Haste

Therefore it must be D

Agent0042
01-04-2007, 01:14 AM

01-04-2007, 03:22 AM
Okay, let's do that. We'll Switch the Question with one that I hope you'll find to be of equal difficulty.

Okay, question discarded. The correct answer was C.) November 13, 2000.

Let's get another question. For 500000 gil...

Well, I've tripped up people on the Chocographs before and I thought it was a good trick answer. But you're a good player and you know your stuff.

Well, you've done it. You've gone further than anyone here has gone before. Now all that's left is to claim the bounty and win one million gil. But I'm certainly not going to make it easy on you. You have one question left, but you still have a fantastic three lifelines available to you --- Phone (PM) a Friend, Double Dip and Ask the Experts. Unless you're like 100% sure of your answer or something, it might be a good idea to at least utilize Douple Dip (and the only reason I say that is because with the others, there's always a chance you could be given bad info.)

Well, for <font color="red"><blink>One Million Gil</blink></font>, let's take a look at your question...

Which of the following was not a major staff member for Final Fantasy IX? Is that:

A.) Hiroyuki It&#244; - Director
B.) Akio Sakai - Producer
C.) Hideo Minaba - Art Director
D.) Ciomi - Lyricist - "Melodies of Life"

UltimateFFFan

Now if only I'd left my 50:50 lifeline til now. Use 50:50, then use double dip. Can't lose. lol. I think I'm going to have to use Ask the Experts.

Agent0042
01-05-2007, 02:11 AM
Okay, let's do that. We'll go ahead and Ask the Experts and see if they can help you out on this one. If it doesn't work out well, then you could always "Phone" someone not on the panel and Double Dip's still available. Of course, if push comes to shove, you could walk away if you so desired.

So, let's activate Ask the Experts. The panel currently, for lack of any recent volunteers, is still Joey, Enya and FF1WithAllThieves. I'll dash off a PM to them and we'll see what they come up with.

Oh, and P.S. --- yeah, I've been waiting for somebody to try that, but so far everybody's blown their 50:50 before Double Dip became available.

P.P.S.: Each member of the panel gets 24 hours to respond. I will report their responses back here at the thread.

Pos

You can use me on the panel again if you like.

Agent0042
01-05-2007, 04:32 PM
Okay, UltimateFFFan, all members of the panel have reported in. The results were mixed, but I think you'll be pleased, overall.

Joey was the first to report back. I think you'll be very excited to know that he said he was 100% certain that the answer is B. Akio Sakai - Producer. He said that he and some of his friends were just talking about the movie "Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within" the other day and Sakai is a producer for that movie, not for Final Fantasy IX. In fact, he says he actually looked it up because he got into an argument with his friend. His friend had said that he thought Sakai was a major producer for other Final Fantasy stuff, but it turns out he wasn't.

FF1WithAllThieves was next in. He answered D. Ciomi, saying that it looks like a fake name. He admitted, though, that he was "taking a shot in the dark."

Enya reported back an answer of D. Ciomi. She said that she is aware of him/her being a staff member for that position, but can't imagine him/her being a major staff member. However, I personally should say just to clarify that I consider every position I posted to be somewhat major, so I wouldn't choose the answer on that basis.

So there you have it. Joey gave you B. with 100% certainty and the other two gave you D., but admittedly not on strong grounds. You could go with either answer, or go on your own. It would probably be a better idea, since you have it, though, to Double Dip it. You can also Phone a Friend, although I'm not sure if that wouldn't necessarily have the chance to do more harm than good. It's up to you.

UltimateFFFan
01-06-2007, 02:40 AM
I'm certain D is not the answer, as of your reasoning Agent, and if I recall correctly from FFIX's credits, wasn't the producer Hashimo or something? I remember that cause I remember a friend saying, hey look, that guys surname is Hash lol. On that basis, and with Joey's backup, I'll say B) Akio Sakai - Producer.

Thanks guys for the help. Here's hoping I'm right :crossfingers:

:) Thanks again for playing!

Well, we're back now with UltimateFFFan and he's agreed to a post-game interview. So let's get started...

Agent0042: What is your favorite aspect of Final Fantasy IX?
UltimateFFFan I think my favorite part is the fact that for the first time since FFV, you could finally have two player controlling in battles, so you didn't have to worry about every single member of your party, you could stick to what characters abilities you knew best. I believe me and a mate had it so I was using magic and he was using physical attacks in the final battles. (I was Vivi and Dagger, he used Zidane and Steiner) that and it was back to the 4 players per party. I also liked the Trance idea. Very inventive IMO, rather than sticking to the usual "Limit Break" which anyone could use, make it only a power only available to a certain few people. That and the fact that a lot of the "old" monsters were bought back made FFIX my favorite FF for a long time. I also liked the rope skipping, very addictive. I spent a good 10-12 hours just trying to get the key item from it just for the sake of completion, LOL.

Agent0042: Who is your favorite character in Final Fantasy IX?
UltimateFFFan: In FFIX my favorite character has to be Freya. She has that air of mystery about her, and it's a real shame that Square didn't develop her story in any way. I especially found it annoying that when you went back to Burmecia, before Gaia becomes covered in Mist, you couldn't do anything other than fight pathetically weak monsters. It would have been more interesting to have an extended plot for Freya and Sir Fratley developing.

Agent0042: Congratulations on winning one million gil. What did you find to be some of the toughest questions and what about those questions in particular was challenging for you?
UltimateFFFan: The toughest question in my opinion was the one concerning the Ragtime Mouse questions, mainly because of the way they were worded but the most challenging questions are always the ones where you doubt your knowledge on the subject, and for me that question was concerning the US release date. I did know the answer, but I was stuck between two possible ones. I'm glad I chose to use my Switch the Question, because I would have chosen the wrong answer.

Agent0042: By winning one million gil, you've certainly earned your name of UltimateFFFan. How long have you been playing Final Fantasy and which Final Fantasy games are your favorites?
UltimateFFFan: I first started playing Final Fantasy, shortly after FFVII was first released, and I was hooked on that. Yes that's right, I got hooked on RPGs by playing FFVII, and just like every other fanboy at the time, i refused to believe FFVIII could be any better, even when I played it, I still believed VII was a better game overall, but since IX, X and X-2 have been released I came to see the error of my ways, and now regard FFVII as a classic, but only as a building block for subsequent Final Fantasies. I had FFVIII and IX and X bought for me as Christmas and birthday presents but since have purchased all FF games myself. I also own a copy of every single FF game ever released with the exceptions of FF3 (Not the US FF3, the EU version), FFXI as I don't see it as a "true" Final Fantasy, more as a WoW clone and FF:CC as I didn't have a GameCube at the time, however I am thinking about buying one, simply for the sake of completeness.

Agent0042: Have you seen Who Wants to be a Millionaire? in any of its forms on television and if so, what do you think of it?
UltimateFFFan: I've seen the UK edition of Who Wants to be a Millionaire, and in my opinion it was a brilliant concept to begin with, however since it's conception it has lost popularity in the UK dramatically since the scandal involving Major Charles Ingram using an audience member to cheat his way to 1 million pounds. However, I still enjoy watching the show, as I believe it is a good test of my general knowledge.
Agent0042: Thanks for the background, there! I never knew that about the British version. I've only had the opportunity to see the U.S. and U.S. syndicated versions myself and fortunately there haven't been any scandals involving those.

Agent0042: Do you have any thoughts on any changes or enhancements for future stuff on the game?
UltimateFFFan: I like the game as it is, perhaps introducing a rule to prevent people from using 50:50 followed by Double Dip as I see this as a way of cheating. Also, it would be nice where I "unlocked" other lifelines, if you gave the contestant an option of 2 lifelines which they could have, but can only choose 1 to "unlock". This would add another level of difficulty to the game, because if I had the choice of Ask the Experts or Switch the Question, and I chose switch the question, then needed ask the experts later on, you'd be really kicking yourself for it. And thank you Agent for the game and this interview. If there's anything else you want, just let me know.
Agent0042: Thanks! Well, the Double Dip / 50:50 was a thing on Super Millionaire, so I kinda like the idea of somebody having a free question if they're smart enough to use it that way. In a way it's a challenge because if you blow your 50:50 early, you can't do that later. And choosing between lifelines --- interesting idea. I may consider that.

Okay, here we go. barretboy14 is with us now in the Hot Seat. He's been with us on the Shrine for a little over the year and has designated himself the Shrine Vicar. He's fifteen years old and has been a valuable member of these boards. Well, let's get started. For 100 gil...

B.) Mr. 56
C.) Mr. 32
D.) Mr. 1000

barretboy14
01-09-2007, 05:17 PM

B.) Swords and Rackets
C.) Flutes and Lances
D.) Flutes and Rackets

D.) Mus

The special item that grants your chocobo certain abilities, such as scrounging in mountain cracks and floating up to the Air Garden is:

A.) Red Pepper

I don't get what you're asking me, could you rephrase the question please.

Agent0042
01-13-2007, 04:38 PM
Okay, one of those items isn't available in shops until much later than the others. I.E. --- just as an example, perhaps maybe you could get one of them in Dali, whereas there would be another that isn't available until, say Esto Gaza. So three of those are like Dali-ish items that you can find in shops really early on and one isn't. Which one of those isn't available until way late in the game?

barretboy14
01-13-2007, 05:15 PM
Thanks agent. I'm tied between 2. Butterfly sword and Zorlin Shape. I don't remember the butterfly sword. Mithril gloves were available from quite early on. I'm sure needle fork was from Lindblum. I'm going to go with

B.) Zorlin Shape

because I think the buttefly sword may have appeared in a chest.

A.) Regent Cid

Just checked this thread out awesome idea guys!

barretboy14
01-13-2007, 09:39 PM
hmmmm it has to be either
C.) Minister Artania
or
D.) Doctor Tot

It could have been Minister Artania in Disc 3 when Brahne dies or Docter tot whenever.

I'm going to use my lifeline ask the audience.

Agent0042
01-14-2007, 01:06 AM
The Ask the Audience lifeline is no longer available on this Millionaire game. It was replaced a while back with Switch the Question. You may use that if you like. You also have 50:50 and Phone a Friend available.

barretboy14
01-14-2007, 11:07 AM
I'll use switch the question, I thought the strike through Ask the audience meant UFFan had already used it in his game and you had just forgotten to take out the tags.

Agent0042
01-14-2007, 10:40 PM
Nah, used lifelines are listed at the top under the current playing name.

Okay, so we'll go ahead and Switch the Question, replacing it with one that I hope you will find to be of about equal difficulty, but perhaps more suited towards your knowledge. First, let's take care of the previous question. The correct answer was D.) Doctor Tot.

Okay, trying again for 8000 gil...

Which of these is not an actual battle theme from the soundtrack and used in the game? Is it:

A.) Successive Battles
B.) The Fierce Battle
C.) You're Not Alone!
D.) Battle 2

barretboy14

Agent0042

And you now have 8000 gil. That means you've gained access to a new lifeline --- Ask Google/GameFAQs/FFShrine Main Site/etc.. If you want to use this, just consult any one document found by checking out one of those. My only caveat is that I ask that once you choose the document you want, you stick with it. And let me know when answering the question that you used this lifeline.

Okay, playing for 16,000 gil now, good luck...

The ATE "Dagger's Feelings" features Dagger/Garnet and which other character or characters:

A.) Zidane
B.) Eiko
C.) Nobody else is involved.
D.) Eiko and Vivi

barretboy14
01-15-2007, 10:51 PM
I'm pretty sure no-one else is involved. I vaguely remember it being in Madain Sari by the summon wall. She is talking to herself...

So my answer is

C.) Nobody else is involved.

My only caveat is that I ask that once you choose the document you want, you stick with it

I'm a little confused, does this mean that I can use the document from that point forward, because that sounds a little to easy

Agent0042
01-16-2007, 12:03 AM

No, you only get to use it for one question. What I'm trying to get at is once you've decided on one that you think looks good, if you look through it and it doesn't seem to be helping you, it's too bad. You're stuck with that one. In other words, you choose to look through, say the Chocobo FAQ and nothing in there answers your question, you're outta luck.

Okay, 16000 gil means you have access to another new lifeline, Double Dip. Again, if you want to use this, you don't have to let me know in advance. Just choose two answer choices and say that you're using it.

Going on for 32000 gil now. If you get this right, you can't leave with less than this...

Which of these names is not an actual citizen of Conde Petie, but rather a name I made up? Is it:

A.) Carl Knowledgegiver
B.) Shanis Gatekeeper
C.) Harold Pathknower
D.) Bryan Rootrunner

barretboy14

It has to be

A.) Carl Knowledgegiver
B.) Shanis Gatekeeper

because I remember Harold and Bryan in an ATB, I may be wrong but I am definatly leaning towards one of these. There was a gate so there must be a gatekeeper, knowledgegiver just doesn't seem to match the simple conde petetan(?) civilian. Im going to choose

A.) Carl Knowledgegiver

Which of these Cid phrases does not appear on a Chocograph piece, hinting at a possible location for the Sky Garden:

A.) Wanderer, head west of the Mist Con... reach Alexandria Plains... See what rests there.
B.) Courageous one, head southea... on the outer... to reach Kuentis Peninsular. See what lies there.
C.) Cautious one... head to the east of aways Canyon on the forgotten Continent... See what lies there.
D.) Dreamer... Head to the ocean in the center... all continents. See what awaits you.

The sky garden, I assume you mean the chocobo air garden place.

Dreamer - I'm sure this one was one of them
Courageous and Cautios seem valid as there is a black shadow at the appointed place.

The wanderer one - it sticks out to me as incorrect, I don't know why. I'm going by instinct on this one. :Crosses Fingers:

Agent0042
01-19-2007, 06:26 PM
All right, Gummi Bears seems to be rather tied up and it doesn't look like he's going to report in, but our other two panelists have reported back with what seem to be fairly solid responses. Both UltimateFFFan and Enya say that they own this soundtrack. They both seem very certain that the answer is A.) Vivi and the Black Mages. Enya notes that there is a track called Black Mage Village on the original soundtrack, but no "Vivi and the Black Mages" track on either.

You can accept that answer, you can go with one of your own, or you can still use another lifeline if you'd like more help.

It's my bad, so I'm going to go ahead and allow this. The good folks at Allied Final Fantasy Communications will get Enya on the line. Well, you've really done an amazing job here. You've earned 500,000 gil. You're playing for one million gil!

You've managed to hang on to two lifelines --- 50:50 which allows you to eliminate two wrong answers and Double Dip, which allows you to select two answer choices when answering. Consider that carefully for your one million gil question:

Based an interview with Hironobu Sakaguchi, which of the following was not true about the development of Final Fantasy IX:

A.) A more "techno" feel was initially considered for the game, similar to Final Fantasy VII and VIII.
B.) The characters were initially smaller than the versions used in the final game.
C.) The developers liked the idea of having a main character that "likes girls."
D.) The game was conceived as having "warm colors," as opposed to the "colder" colors of Final Fantasy VII and VIII.

barretboy14
01-21-2007, 08:28 PM
I hung onto it for a reason.

I'm going to have a large serving of 50:50 followed by a dribble of double dip. I just created the recipe for free gil!

Instant win huh!

If I didn't have the two lifelines I would have gone for a stab in the dark and went for B.)The characters were initially smaller than the versions used in the final game.

Agent0042
01-21-2007, 08:30 PM
:) I had a strong inclination you were planning to do exactly that. Smart cookie.

All right, here's your 50:50:

It's time to start the next game whenever the game manager feels like starting the next one. I still have a little outstanding business to take care of first and, also, I like to schedule a bit of a break after somebody wins a million gil --- because A.) So you can bask in their glory, B.) Because sometimes it's nice to have a break.

Post-Game Interview with barretboy14:

Agent0042: How long have you been playing Final Fantasy IX?

barretboy14: I got it for my 10th birthday (15 now) so five years and I still enjoy replaying it.

Agent0042: Who is your favorite character in the game and which character(s) do you feel could have used more development?

barretboy14: Steiner is my favourite character. At the moment anyway. Everytime I play it I enjoy another characters story more. As I got older I understood the characters a bit more and I started to understand why they reacted the way they did. If you had asked me, say, after my first play through, I probably would have said Zidane or Vivi. Zidane because he's the hero who can do just about anything and he was like my first idol and Vivi because well he's Vivi.

I don't think any of the characters needed more develpment. All of their stories were portayed nicely, slowly progressing through everyones story. I think it would have been nicer if their stories progressed a bit through the game a little. For example Freya's story was all crammed into the Lindlum, Bermecia and Cleyra stage and then was forgotten for most of the game.

Agent0042: What's your favorite aspect of Final Fantasy IX / where you feel it excels compared with other Final Fantasies?

barretboy14: Two words. Old School. It bought the magic of Final Fantasy back to the older games. One other major thing. The soundtrack. Best in the series in my honest opinion.

Agent0042: Do you have any thoughts on how the game could be improved / changed for future editions?

barretboy14: I'm assuming you mean the millionaire game not Final Fantasy 9 (Why would you change that?). I think you should be able to choose 2 of the 3 super millionaire lifelines. Or have to make a final winnings sacrifice to have the option of all three. Not unlike what UltimateFFan mentioned.

Agent0042: Yeah, that's what I meant. And yeah, maybe I'll consider that. It took quite a few people before I got a million gil winner, though and then I got two in a row. So I guess it might be worth considering to add in some more challenge.

Agent0042: How will you spend your winnings? :D

barretboy14: Hmmmmm. First I'm going to buy myself a little estate not to far from Alexandria and create a hall of champions for all of the FF9 millionaire winners. I'll also buy a bright blue airship/ship!

A.) First Act: The End of Ugly Desire. It's showtime! (Iifa tree, big Bahamut showdown)

Zidane's Theme is heard when you board the airship in Dali. D.) A Face Unforgotten is Fratley's Theme. And finally, A.) The Skirmish of the Silver Dragons plays towards the end when there are, well, all the Silver Dragons.

My apologies for the mistake there, Enya. Come on over to the Hot Seat!

Only one pro has come out, and that's ..::RObSKi::... He is now officially timed out of the game. ..::RObSKi::.., here's how it's going to work. You have an open invitation to return, but only if you're going to be available to play. You only get one more shot at this. And, in order to keep things fair, you revert back one level. I think that's only fair, given how long this question has been open. You have up to one week to return, longer if you check in, but somebody else is playing at the moment. Anyway, you can come back if you're available and there's no active game open.

But in the meantime, we really need to get on with another Fastest Finger question. It's an easy one...

Place these methods of transportation in reverse order of when they become available:

A.) Blue Narciss
B.) Invincible
C.) Hilda Garde III
D.) Gold Chocobo

Yeah, I thought he had a good shot too.

M~C~P, sorry, not correct. I'm afraid you're ineligible until the next Fastest Finger question. To anyone else that wants to play --- remember to read the question carefully.

Yeah sorry, I have had no time to go online so far this week. If I can return to the game at any time then I'll be able to visit the forums at least once a day from now on. Sorry again.

No, sorry, but still not right. Very close, though, but no cigar. I suppose I'll give this till sometime tomorrow, or rather later today. If nobody has it by then, then I'll just post a new Fastest Finger. But barret is right, this one really wasn't intended to be that challenging.

~Sigh~ Oh what foolish mortals they be I would answer it but I don't want to play and I am not 100 on my FFIX knowledge so I will give a hint one post so far has the answer in the wrong order for the first 2 think about when you can complete Side quests as soon as possible in relation to the plot for the right order. And this is your only hint from the Codex.

Never mind, let's just move onto a new question. The correct answer was Invincible, Gold Chocobo, Hilda Garde III, Blue Narciss. You get the Blue Narciss first, obviously, that's the ship. Then the Hilda Garde III is created, using parts from the Blue Narciss. Then, and only then, you get access to the Gold / Flying Chocobo, because this chocobo can go pretty much anywhere the airship can. So it wouldn't make sense for it to become available before the airship, and the game purposely makes the chocograph needed to get the upgrade unavailable until after you get the HGIII. And then, finally, you get the Invincible, but lose the Hilda Garde III. And, of course, I asked for them in reverse order.

All right, let's try this again. Place the following characters in order the order that they first have dialogue in the game, starting with the earliest:

A.) Regent Cid
B.) Queen Brahne
C.) Baku
D.) Doctor Tot

Okay, everyone, M~C~P (or "Master Control Program") just joined us this month, but has already racked over 400 posts. He hails from England and has started the Kingdom Hearts Rumble here at the the Shrine. He describes himself as a "normal kind of guy" and sounds like he may be a bit sporty, based on his interests.

Well, I'm assuming you know about the rules and the lifelines, and if not, they're all described in the first post in the thread. So let's get started.
