I nominate Yoshi's Island DS...sorry, but the original Yoshi's Island for the Super NES had a perfect soundtrack compared to the sequel : (

DON'T BE! I fully agree with you on that! The soundtrack for it is very weak.....

The Original had awesome Boss Music in it, the DS one has nothing in it to give you the feel that your up against a Boss.

I am way too laxy to read all the posts but I would vote the themes in brawl from Animal Crossing drive me absolutely crazy... Oh and your video was removed?? what was it?? And about Yoshi's Island DS... I agree it wasn't near the music from the original, but It is not near the most annoying VGM.

I absolutely hated the main battle theme in chrono chross. It's so strange considering the rest of the soundtrack is pretty damn good. Also, I didnt care for ff VIII's main battle theme either. Man with a machine gun should have been the main battle them ;D

I agree with the earlier post on the "Birthday Cake" song from JSRF. It can make your ears bleed. However, even worse is some parts of the US "Sonic CD." It just didn't belong in that game, that soundtrack. However, there were songs on the Japanese version that annoyed me as well. Also, this might just be my GD-ROM but the Colosseum music on the original Soul Calibur for Dreamcast sounds like a looping audio crash. Again, it might just be my disc, but AAAAAAAARGH.

I hated Gilligan's Island music on NES. It loops over and over again.
The Super Mario Bros. Castle Theme when you try to fight bowser. Again it loops over and over again.
Rap music sucks ass.

The most irritating game soundtrack I've listened to in my gaming experience is from Need For Speed Underground 2, mainly because it's composed almost entirely of rap music. Darn, I've always had to switch off that godamn music player before playing the game. That's why I don't like these racing games much...

I absolutely hated the main battle theme in chrono chross. It's so strange considering the rest of the soundtrack is pretty damn good.

I thought more than half of the tracks of that game were mere average. CC has probably one of the most overrated soundtracks of all time. :ashine:

Seriously.

It would be easy to construct an endless list of bland and forgettable soundtracks, but few come to mind that are patently offensive to the ears. So here goes:

I would always have to turn the volume way down when playing "Glitter Gulch Mine" in Banjo-Tooie. Generalizing, any track that features a main instrument that is "plucked" is probably not on my list of favorites, particularly if it's a MIDI composition.

Yoshi's Story's main theme (as everyone else has mentioned) consists of lyrics that are incomprehensible, shrill, and highly repetitive, but this is quite understandable given the target audience.

Excitebike 64 had some great music, but the audio quality was horrendous! Some of the sound effects were seriously like nails on a chalkboard (such as when the screen would wipe black). Also, the theme that plays when you select your biker was a bit too noisy for my liking, considering that it starts out with about 4 different engines revving up.

Wave Race: Blue Storm had a decent soundtrack that was unfortunately marred by some terrible voice acting, depending on who your "coach" was. Like many racing games of the day involving voiceovers, it was also quite repetitive.

Lastly, "Samus Vs Space Pirates" from Metroid Prime (though I loved the rest of the soundtrack). I can tolerate "chaotic disorder" in music, but the blend of instruments used here is about as cringe-inducing as the real-life LRAD (ironically used to repel real pirates).

Glitch

Shit all of those are from Nintendo games, they were never too good at making music in my book... and man, "Samus Vs Space Pirates" I hated that track so much I always turned the music off whenever I was around Space Pirate premises.

Uh, no shit its different from western VGM's, ITS JAPANESE STUFF. I think games of stuff from JAPAN that's made in JAPAN are going to have the symphonic styles from, you guessed it, JAPAN, not western styles.

And way to generalize the entire anime fanbase. Only the worst of the worst 'dedicate their lives to it'. And being on a forums that's dedicated to a goddamn video game series (that's also made in Japan), you should hold your tongue when making a statement like that, because its very likely that not only are you making yourself look like a jerk, you're being hypocritical.

Look, i like anime. I know most of the games suck and their music is mediocre. But i'm not like "ZOMG ITZ AWESOME GIVE ME FANSUB TORRENT NAO!!!!!" So don't come on here and say "LMAO ALL U DRONEZ WATCHIN THIS SHIT PATHETIC LOLOLOLOL" and think that you're any better.

I'd have to go with X-2's soundtrack. I mean sure there are worse games with worse soundtracks (NES games for example). But the thing with X-2 is it tricks you. It starts out with the beautiful 'Eternity - Memories of Lightwaves' but EVERY other song in the game is terrible (except the band member's reprise of Eternity). So X-2 wins the 'most annoying game music' just because of it's deception.

I go for Koudelka's battle themes, I can't stand them XD, the game is supposed to give you some fear, but when you enter in a battle the music it ruins it all the atmosphere, that's my opinion, besides that, none other game comes to my mind, and I partially agree with the battle songs of Chrono Cross, the boss battle theme (between life and death) doesn't sound like boss battle, sounds more closely to a chase. The other battle songs are OK except "Dragon God", at a certain time of looping this song becomes hateful.

arthurgolden
09-18-2009, 04:52 AM
Ha. Koudelka's music is all right if you listen to it on its own. Not a "disaster," as it's been called. But I agree. In-game, going from the atmospheric walking-around music to the sharp plucked-string song is odd, to say the least.

It actually reminds me of The Spoony One's review of FFVIII when he talks about the music in one of the Laguna flashbacks and then shows clips from Star Wars Episode One...

Just looked it up and it's Part 9, found here: http://www.spoonyexperiment.com/category/final-fantasy-viii/

The town music from King's Quest V. It is just horrible.

I generally dislike most of the music in Super Mario Galaxy. I don't think it's bad music, but I really don't like most of it. (I do like the Bowser/Bowser Jr. level and battle music.)

Pretty much all of the chocobo music from the Final Fantasy series. Final Fantasy VII is particularly egregious given how many chocobo songs there are.

Terminator 2: Judgment Day for SNES/Mega Drive. It has only one BGM that is repeated for 8-9 stages. Actually, this track is terrible, but it borders on "so bad it's good" territory ( YouTube - Terminator 2 Judgment Day SNES Music - In Game (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QDUybpdCTGE) ), something that can be also said for the intro music to Last Action Hero which is a bit similar ( YouTube - [Intro][SNES] Last Action Hero (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gEb6wCbmD4s) ) Trashmania :)

Street Fighter IV(With the exception of Sagat and Rose's themes), SSFIV, SF X Tekken, the US Sonic CD soundtrack. And I don't considered licensed music in EA games soundtrack worthy, (I've had arguments about this in the past) and most FPS games have the most dull and generic soundtracks ever. Although I prefer Japanese made soundtracks over American made, there is a handful of good American stuff, notably Mass Effect 3 and the Halo series.

Rayman 3 - incredibly dull and nothing stood out to me, except for the Hoodstomper boss, Teensie Highway and when you're fighting Hoodlums (being a fan of funk music)

I Don't know, I really was dumbstruck how lackluster the Los Santos Rock Radio Playlist in GTA V was and is. Sure, there's "Danger Zone" (side-note: can GTA VI have Cheap Trick's "Mighty Wings"?), but UGGGHHHH, Yes's Way-Overplayed "Roundabout," just come-on! I even asked my old man and he said he BARELY ever heard it even when it was new, so why play it all the time, Rockstar? Sorry if it's just me, but my brother's copy must just hate us both, since it always plays the boring/moody/unfitting music more.

Pretty much any song that's basically a 5 second loop played over and over again (It's bad if you're going to be hearing it for at least a few minutes before another song plays, like during a stage). A couple of examples that I can think of would be Joke's End from Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga & the Stage Select theme from DuckTales 1 (The original game for NES and Game Boy, not the "Remastered" remake).
