So, this is a little something was cooking up for a day or two. The other night my internet went out so I turned to clean up some junk on my computer and noticed I had downloaded a FLAC copy of the official Sonic Mania Plus Original Soundtrack. Up until this point I was using !!!!!'s "Sonic Mania Expanded Soundtrack" as the main presence of Sonic Mania in my music library, and, personally at least, I find it rather lacking in the face of the superior options that have become available since then. It didn't take but a moment to notice it was missing a few things I thought it ought to have if it's gonna be considered "complete".
The official soundtrack for Sonic Mania Plus is missing:
Green Hill Zone Act 1
Green Hill Zone Act 2
Chemical Plant Zone Act 1
Chemical Plant Zone Act 2
Oil Ocean Zone Act 1
Oil Ocean Zone Act 2
The little intro theme played before Checkpoint from the trailer that is a remix of Mega Drive/ Genesis Sonic 3D Blast/Flickies' Island credits song.
Checkpoint (the theme by Nitro Fun & Hyper Potions used in the Debut Trailer for the game)
The Sonic Mania Adventures Special Remix tracks being released on YouTube from the official Sonic the Hedgehog channel.
& Knuckles Ending (A remix of The Horizon from Chaotix by Tee Lopes for the secret & Knuckles ending)
As everyone knows by now those stage themes were probably omitted because Masato Nakamura maintains the rights to those compositions and sega probably just didn't want to pay him more royalties for releasing them on a soundtrack again. So... it was just Sega cheaping out, who would've guessed? \_(ツ)_/ Shame they'll cheap out on soundtrack releases but won't cheap out for harmful DRM practices, right? >_> (Funny coincidence, like a day after I wrote this they removed Denuvo from the game on Steam. Yay.)
So there I am, sitting there offline, trying to figure out what to do about it and came to the conclusion that I would only be satisfied by having my own version of the soundtrack. And when I do this, I try to do them right. I ended up making a list of tracks and what order I wanted them to be in and added it to my todo list for once my internet came back. Slept on it, next day the internet was back so I got to work.
So, after some downloads, audio comparisons, I found that the best quality rip online is the ones from this thread here on ffshrine (Thread 225984) and decided to use it as the main source for the audio in this custom soundtrack album.
Most of the tracks are sourced from a FLAC rip of the official Sonic Mania Plus Original Soundtrack CDs.
Green Hill Zone, Chemical Plant Zone, and Oil Ocean Zone tracks were sourced from rips done from the Nintendo Switch port.
& Knuckles Ending was sourced from the PC version audio.
Checkpoint was sourced from monstercat's Bandcamp page in FLAC.
Sonic Mania 25th Anniversary Debut Intro sourced from the webm copies of the video on YouTube.
Sonic Mania Adventures Special Remixes were sourced from Jun Senoue's THE WORKS III flac rip by Bizargh (thanks!)
So, the end all be all is, I did this work for myself, so I could have a copy of the Sonic Mania soundtrack that meets my *cough* unreasonably *cough* high standards.
but I figured since I've done it before I'd share my work here in case anyone else may benefit from it. That said, I hope you guys enjoy this little upload and remember to support the artists by buying a copy of the official releases if you can!
