Hey guys. Niki here. Thought I'd start a topic for this long winded project of mine.
Several years were spent collecting and listening to the music of every single RPG, ARPG and Tactical games ever released on the SNES. Obscure SNES RPGs is the result of those long listening hours over the years.
There will be 6 volumes total, each packing around 4 hours of music.

Just wanted to thank you for sharing this thoughtful project. As someone who does not want the work of countless great obscure composers to go to waste I thank you and applaud you for your work.

Thanks man means a lot. Wouldn't be possible without the amazing and dedicated work of all those semi anonymous dumpers over at snesmusic and other places. These people are true unsung heroes.
Cheers ~

Wow, I just started listening to the mix and it is fantastic.
I am wondering, are you intending to release any sort of liner notes or general thoughts on the collections? I am not requesting them! I am simply interested in knowing are you intending to do so.
I have checked out your website as well and its a wealth of "vintage" VGM thoughts and collections, etc... Just back again to give more thanks.

Glad you're enjoying it !
I would love to. I like sharing my thoughts about stuff as you've maybe seen from the saladedemais blog, but I lack time nowadays. The compilations aren't even optimal and I would have liked to work more on them but that project have been going for years and I finally decided I would use this semi quiet period I'm going through right now to finally release it, out of fear it's gonna be another 10 yearsif I don't. So, short answer is nope.
I strongly encourage people to go check out the full soundtracks of the games they notice. Choosing is hard and tastes are different. I've already had people tell me they would have picked different tracks for this or that game. I just didn't see the point of releasing 20 gigs of full soundtracks mostly already available in .spc format. ^^
Glad you enjoy the older content as well. Saladedemais goes way back but we're not super well known. :)
Thanks for all the nice comments everyone ~

I hope this is good quiet time, my best wishes that you can have more of them, then, neekee. And thank you for these collections, I am looking forward to taking a listen next week.

Sorry for my piecemeal commentary, but as I consume the playlists I reach new levels of appreciations.
I do love all the music I've hear so far, but I have neglected to praise you for your album art. I think they are breath-taking and truly artistic. As someone who collects game screenshots and pixel art, they are fantastic. The latest one is particular evocative and I feel like I could write a short story based solely on the image!

Oh thanks, but they're simply screenshots from some of the games featured themselves. ^^
Vol.1 is from Traverse, Vol.2 is Hajimari no Mori, Vol.3 is Dark Half and Vol.4 is Jyutei Senki.
Cheers everyone !

This has been an amazing set. I'm surprised by how 'modern' some of this sounds, like PSX-PS2 era almost. Wow. Thanks so much for putting all this together!
out of all of these, what would you say were your fave 5 obscure RPG OSTs overall? I listen through some 16bit era RPGs myself and some of them are so boring to trawl through. So it's fantastic that you went through all these and picked up the most listenable ones! SO MANY unknown Japan-only RPGs. I'm like, ugh.... WHy does it sound so good, yet I've never heard of 90% of these titles?

Glad you're enjoying it. And yes, many of these are actually pretty late in the SNES era. Many titles from 96, 97 and even 98 ! Guess that could be one of the explanation for the (sometimes) great sound quality.
Out of actual discoveries on my end, I would say both RPG Makers, Last Bible III, Momotarou Densetsu, Hajimari no Mori and Daikaijuu Monogatori II were big highlights.
Among some I included that I already knew beforehand, I'd say Tengai Makyo Zero and Lagoon. :)

I am glad you did this- It makes more people aware of those RPGS on the SNES that are unknown and obscure. Dark Kingdom and Dark Half are my personal favorites.
