Serious? It's the reason for what it's better to give in PMSorry, but that wouldn't work for me for two reasons. First, my job often takes me away from my computer for days at a time (I was gone both Thursday and Friday just a couple of days ago, but it's often considerably longer, as much as a week.) and would be unable to answer requests for PMs during those times. Secondly, I've already attracted somebody's attention to get a complaint in the first place. They need to see that I'm out of business. If I publicly declare that "links are still available via PM", then I'm basically announcing to the world that I've merely taken my operation underground, but it's still functioning, and the complainer(s) might therefore feel that further action is necessary.

Direct link vs PM link, that's the question.

I prefer in PM but true, I take time to send link but the complainer (s) will not have all my links etc

Btw, I think we know who is doing that, so for a while, don't up stuffs.

I think you should think again before you make a decision. I was in a similar situation a few times. I lost files from 2 mega acounts but every time I doubled the number of accounts. Now i have one premium + 20 free.

Man this piracy life is a constant struggle, so don't give up. Take a few weeks of rest, make a new strategy and return please. We need any good poster here and you definitely are one of them.

Many great uploaders have already left shrine. European edition eg. still share only few of us.
You want to know reason?

1) ADDS and digital edition

If someone buy cd and then share here cdrip labels can live with that but if someone fucker share suspicious digital downloads before label start with cd delivery that's huge problem. Nobody likes that someone like Bart makes money before label sold any copies. Therefore, we have several productions banned here like varese.

2) Exchanging across messages.

It's nice to have private group like you have one but only if group members contribute from time to time for all. At the end this is sharing community. I had one group before open my blog but we never stop with sharing on shrine.

Since this is thread for supporting BobtheKnob, I don't want more ruin this topic with 'advertisement shitheads'

Mega doesn't give the info who's complaint.Actually, in this case at least, they did. They told me the complaint(s) were from the email address, "[email protected]". So I looked up the domain, "umusic.com", and it's Universal Music. So somebody at Universal Music filed the complaint with MEGA.

Well, as I have a chance to get over the shock somewhat, it's starting to sink in that lorddsp might be right, that PMing is the way to go. And then I could also include password encryption with the rar files, as you suggest, Calidoran.

I expressed a concern earlier about PMing, that my job often has me away from my machine for days at a time, but I suppose I could simply include a proviso/caveat about that in my posts and simply let people know that they might have to wait a few days after they post their request for a PM - but that it would get taken care of and they would get their request filled. And then beyond that I suppose they would just have to deal with it.

I'm going to take a while off, however, and mull this over.

(I do still have offline backups of everything I ever uploaded, plus text copies of all my thread posts here, so I do have what it takes to restore everything with adjustments for a PMing system.)

My own account was affected as well. This is the first time any file's been taken down off my account due to any sort of copyright notice, but it appears that this happened to a great deal of users at once.

And yes, even considerably non-obvious files were removed.

On behalf of bobtheknob, I want to send my sympathies. FFShrine's collective amount of classical music is largely owing to you, as is a decent amount of what I've gotten. I only hope that you'll be 'back in business' soon. :)

If you want to protect your MEGA files the best way is to use 4-5 different MEGA accounts alternately.
Or try another hosting site, but I still think: MEGA is the best.

Indeed I have. I had asked two questions, one somewhat related and the other not. It kind of spiraled from there.

It's a shit situation, but what can we do really? Music companies have proven to really love their copyright, and that's what happened here (at least from that one piece of evidence).

I'll say this again: We've been too lucky. So much "luxury," so that when something bad starts happening, we get scared in exaggerated ways really. It'll all be "fine" eventually.

Though, I will say that my two MEGA accounts haven't been effected whatsoever. Being that I'm a much smaller user, it makes sense. What helps is that a chunk of what I've posted is live concert material, which is much easier to keep up.

And I have done so, with the result that I'm going to start using a PM system after a week or so off. I've been sharing the End Title Suites to all the Harry Potter movies (which are a LOT higher profile than any classical music) longer than anything else I posted here, but I've been doing it via PM because of the Patrick Doyle part of the music, and in 9 months of throwing PMs every which way for it, I never had a problem, so I can only assume that I'll have a similar, if not even better, experience with classical music.

Some of my links were down, even one was a DMCA takedown, no one reupped (I do not reup links, and most of them are all gone when i got a ransomware virus two months ago, so deleted everything. Two or three my other links, certainly, were reported by a user simple because I gave him the link to buy the cd on a request thread, no one reupped those either. But most of my links are still up, until now....and will continues available until they get deleted

When use trackers you not only download but in 90% cases you seed too. That's problem my friend.

Though, I will say that my two MEGA accounts haven't been effected whatsoever. Being that I'm a much smaller user, it makes sense. What helps is that a chunk of what I've posted is live concert material, which is much easier to keep up.

I should've kept my mouth shut, because most of the links are down on my end as well.

New thread or old-thread-with-a-bump-post?

If the mentioned troll has another account here, and he have a history of unresolved things with you, I'm afraid that you doing a futile job by re-up your collection under the same nickname. I think you'll lose them again regardless of which hosting site you use. I don't believe that it will help nickname change because you share specific classic things. If you decide to take this step (re-up collection) only remains to hope that this jerk does not have anything personal against you.

It's very likely to be either powaquatsi or his pal thx-1138 (either their first account or now a dupe one).
I never had a beef with powa but as soon as I talked to thx-1138 about harassing Bart Oss one of my links (Home Alone 2 LLLCD) was reported and I had to take it down to be safe.
This NEVER happened to me before and it was one of a handful of public links (I share everything via PM).

It's very easy to track them down, assuming you have the time to do so.
Just go into the logs, find either one of their IP addresses (or multiple, if they're smart enough) and check the logs every so often to see if they return.
Even if they -say, I don't know- go into a public library or report you from work or something, the IP range will always be the same.
Then you'll still know who it is and you'll be able to block them. Hell, you can block the entire range if it gets out of hand!

If only for the sake of forum tidiness I would suggest editing the OP on your original threads. You can always bump the last page yourself once you edited the OP, so it will appear on the first page again. Then people will start noticing, look for latest post on your username, find their way back to other reuploaded threads, etc etc. Or you can put a link of sorts in your signature to point them in the right direction that you're reuploading? On the other hand, if you use new threads then you can put a search link URL in your signature that points people to a list of your latest started threads, and then they'll see all of your reups :) if you start your new threads with the word [REUP] it will be EVEN EASIER :D :) It's getting confusing now... do as you wish :p

Back to the actual topic, I also do think that you should just edit your original posts to reflect the change in method of sharing. You do have a very well established history. We wouldn't want the bad guy to win by completely starting over. Thus, just leave the threads open to keep them going! That way, more people will recognize your value and importance in Shrine by looking at everything that has been established in the past that keeps on running!

It's your final opinion that counts the most though.

Thank you for informing us all. I'd rest easier knowing that the takedown notices were due to legitimate copyright claims, not some user having an immature fit, reporting a very large number of links, presumably with the intention of "if I can't share music, no one can".

Well guys, I think that I have FOUND the answer!! And there is no need to keep this private. In fact, I WANT every person on this forum to know all about this, because then whoever caused this will know that they can have 1000 accounts here at FF Shrine, and they'll STILL be caught.

MEGA has a little-known feature (I'm not sure if this feature is available in free accounts, unfortunately) where you can instantly copy a file in your cloud folder merely with a right-click and it doesn't increase the size of your storage. This is because MEGA simply gives you another listing of the same file, rather than duplicating its content like Windows would do on your local hard drive.

In my new MEGA account, I've already uploaded the files for the Runnicles/Atlanta Carmina Burana (which I'll be posting in just a little while, using PM sharing), and they total around 5.6 gigs. I copied every single one of those files just as an experiment to see what would happen to my storage size, and it stayed exactly the same. You would think that it would increase to 11.2 gigs (5.6 x 2), but nope, no change.

Why is this important, you ask? Because this means that I can pick one file out of every download package as a tool, and every time somebody requests a PM with links, I'll create a new copy of one of the files with one quick right-click, generate a new link for that new copy, and then share it with the other person as a part of the package.

This mean that there will be at least one file link in every PM I send out to everybody that is unique and that nobody else will ever receive, and it will have no effect on my storage size, plus it will only take as much time as one or two mouse-clicks to do it.

And then, if I have anymore links disabled, all I have to do is go back through my sent PMs, find who received the unique link(s) that got disabled, and there's the culprit.

And I will report that person to the moderator and will post threads screaming it to the heavens above letting every person here in this forum know who that person is so the moderator can find all their other usernames with any duplicate IP addresses they have and ban them for life.

It will take a little extra work on my part, but I think once I do this a few times and get the hang of it, it'll become like 2nd nature to me.

Oh, and one other thing: In case you're concerned about listings for that one file really piling up in my cloud listing, MEGA also has a feature where I can set an expiration time limit on any links that I share - say, one week for example - and then every once in a while, I'll go into my cloud folder, find all the files whose links have disappeared (which is quickly obvious from the way the MEGA set up their interface), and simply delete all those file listings. That will keep things from piling up too much, but like I said earlier, it will never have an effect on the amount of MEGA storage that I'm using.

Yes but with your CC they have your name, it's largely more direct than tracing the IP until the ISP and asking the ISP to give the name of the account etc.

In my country, only the police / juge etc could ask the ISP about names behind IP.

In fact, each person's FF Shrine username will be a part of a password they'll need in order to open the files. If that doesn't prove to everybody that BobtheKnob isn't kidding when he says he's tracking the way everybody uses my links on an individual basis, then I don't know what will.

And I'm not going to have to track down anybody. The very instant even just one of my links gets disabled because it's reported, I'll immediately know exactly who was behind it.

There's was no limit to pm because i've had to manually approve new registered members because the email system is still waiting to catch up. I've changed this now, new users still need 2 posts to pm.

The first two rules are very important. If Bob lives in a country where one can come and take him with his computers at breakfast time, he must think carefully.

I'm not paranoid. I have one half-private place for rare vinyl rips and I know very well what all leech are able to use. When stuff start to 'leak' from site You can choose to ban nickname or IP address. If i ban IP address (which is better option) then fuckers come back again with IP Hider. Sometimes in order to get 1 certain link only, they tried 2-3 IP hiding software!!!!

Right now i'm logged from one US IP just to show how it works.
If someone had another account be sure he use IP Hider Pro or a some more complex software.

There's not much you can do in any case. If someone is banned they'll just come back using a completely different username and -as zvonko says- with a tool to change/hide their IP address.
Safest bet is to hand everything out via PM and to adhere to the advice/rules that CdS posted. Good value.

Yes, MEGA said the complaints were from [email protected], which is Universal Music. It appears that somebody here at FF Shrine went on a rampage to gather up as many publicly posted links as they could gather, and then turned them all in for takedown. That's why, in my new system, every link I share only goes to one person and nobody else will ever get that link (unless the person I give it to shares it). The links of mine that were taken down were ALL of the threads where I openly posted the link(s).

Random aside, 9 MEGA accounts later, I've utilized for a sharing group I'm a part of (sans FFS). On this account, I have only [openly used it for and] posted 3 links/threads on FFS. Only THOSE THREE in particular, have received a takedown. All the 100+ other links are still very-much viable.

I think that, right there, is enough to tell me.. ie: I can |R|E|A|D| pretty well!

I got 5 more takedowns today, and they were again from public reuploads where I did a handful of requesters a quick favor or my publicly shared film edit of the X Gonna Give it To Ya song in Deadpool. All of my PM-ONLY links are still viable. I don't care who's doing it and how but it's definitely no coincidence that everyone got hit in the past week or so. It's definitely a coordinated strike (if we can call it that).

Hmmm. FFShrine might have been "blacklisted" as a consequence of a user's actions (the one which has been referred to as troll), eh, just throwing this out there. The old MEGAUPLOAD hasn't always been a viable option around here, in the past, why? Stuff hosted there started to get deleted real fast. What happened, to put it in simple terms, is that the website checked from where the visitor of a certain download link came (well, think about how certain communities or websites go and identify: visitor from Google, Yahoo Search, Bing and you get the idea)… Clicked from forums.ffshrine.org? Whatever got hosted had a short life for a while, in some instances the deletions happened within 15 minutes.

Sooner or later it has to happen, anyway… The (complete) deletion of the stuff hosted on our accounts, I mean; it's either because of someone with a bone to pick, or because of the folks managing DMCA-takedown requests.

While I don't doubt that someone is partially responsible for this most recent tragedy (being sarcastic here, in case you can't tell), you folks seem to forget that: 1) these forums are still well indexed on the likes of Google and 2) there are thousands of users linking to download threads on the likes of Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr… Someone might have taken notice of it.

Agents of copyright holders won't pick an obvious name. They'll look like any other leecher.
There are hundreds of users who don't talk and just leech.
They look like anyone. They blend in seemlessly into the community.
But, maybe, they are even the ones who post "thanks" and give you reputation.
As a means to mark you.
They can check their own post history to always find you the fastest and keep track of your activities.
