Sorry guys, somebody filed a copyright complaint with MEGA, so I’ve had to take down all of my links. Hopefully at some point in the future, I’ll be able to get back at it.

Those of you who were able to download my stuff, please feel free to share it with other people, but I’m going to have to go off the radar for a while.

Serious? It’s the reason for what it’s better to give in PMSorry, but that wouldn’t work for me for two reasons. First, my job often takes me away from my computer for days at a time (I was gone both Thursday and Friday just a couple of days ago, but it’s often considerably longer, as much as a week.) and would be unable to answer requests for PMs during those times. Secondly, I’ve already attracted somebody’s attention to get a complaint in the first place. They need to see that I’m out of business. If I publicly declare that "links are still available via PM", then I’m basically announcing to the world that I’ve merely taken my operation underground, but it’s still functioning, and the complainer(s) might therefore feel that further action is necessary.

Direct link vs PM link, that’s the question.

I prefer in PM but true, I take time to send link but the complainer (s) will not have all my links etc

Btw, I think we know who is doing that, so for a while, don’t up stuffs.

I think you should think again before you make a decision. I was in a similar situation a few times. I lost files from 2 mega acounts but every time I doubled the number of accounts. Now i have one premium + 20 free.

Man this piracy life is a constant struggle, so don’t give up. Take a few weeks of rest, make a new strategy and return please. We need any good poster here and you definitely are one of them.

Many great uploaders have already left shrine. European edition eg. still share only few of us.
You want to know reason?

1) ADDS and digital edition

If someone buy cd and then share here cdrip labels can live with that but if someone fucker share suspicious digital downloads before label start with cd delivery that’s huge problem. Nobody likes that someone like Bart makes money before label sold any copies. Therefore, we have several productions banned here like varese.

2) Exchanging across messages.

It’s nice to have private group like you have one but only if group members contribute from time to time for all. At the end this is sharing community. I had one group before open my blog but we never stop with sharing on shrine.

Since this is thread for supporting BobtheKnob, I don’t want more ruin this topic with ‘advertisement shitheads’

Mega doesn’t give the info who’s complaint.Actually, in this case at least, they did. They told me the complaint(s) were from the email address, "[email protected]". So I looked up the domain, "umusic.com", and it’s Universal Music. So somebody at Universal Music filed the complaint with MEGA.

Well, as I have a chance to get over the shock somewhat, it’s starting to sink in that lorddsp might be right, that PMing is the way to go. And then I could also include password encryption with the rar files, as you suggest, Calidoran.

I expressed a concern earlier about PMing, that my job often has me away from my machine for days at a time, but I suppose I could simply include a proviso/caveat about that in my posts and simply let people know that they might have to wait a few days after they post their request for a PM – but that it would get taken care of and they would get their request filled. And then beyond that I suppose they would just have to deal with it.

I’m going to take a while off, however, and mull this over.

(I do still have offline backups of everything I ever uploaded, plus text copies of all my thread posts here, so I do have what it takes to restore everything with adjustments for a PMing system.)

My own account was affected as well. This is the first time any file’s been taken down off my account due to any sort of copyright notice, but it appears that this happened to a great deal of users at once.

And yes, even considerably non-obvious files were removed.

On behalf of bobtheknob, I want to send my sympathies. FFShrine’s collective amount of classical music is largely owing to you, as is a decent amount of what I’ve gotten. I only hope that you’ll be ‘back in business’ soon. 🙂

If you want to protect your MEGA files the best way is to use 4-5 different MEGA accounts alternately.
Or try another hosting site, but I still think: MEGA is the best.

Indeed I have. I had asked two questions, one somewhat related and the other not. It kind of spiraled from there.

It’s a shit situation, but what can we do really? Music companies have proven to really love their copyright, and that’s what happened here (at least from that one piece of evidence).

I’ll say this again: We’ve been too lucky. So much "luxury," so that when something bad starts happening, we get scared in exaggerated ways really. It’ll all be "fine" eventually.

Though, I will say that my two MEGA accounts haven’t been effected whatsoever. Being that I’m a much smaller user, it makes sense. What helps is that a chunk of what I’ve posted is live concert material, which is much easier to keep up.

And I have done so, with the result that I’m going to start using a PM system after a week or so off. I’ve been sharing the End Title Suites to all the Harry Potter movies (which are a LOT higher profile than any classical music) longer than anything else I posted here, but I’ve been doing it via PM because of the Patrick Doyle part of the music, and in 9 months of throwing PMs every which way for it, I never had a problem, so I can only assume that I’ll have a similar, if not even better, experience with classical music.

Some of my links were down, even one was a DMCA takedown, no one reupped (I do not reup links, and most of them are all gone when i got a ransomware virus two months ago, so deleted everything. Two or three my other links, certainly, were reported by a user simple because I gave him the link to buy the cd on a request thread, no one reupped those either. But most of my links are still up, until now….and will continues available until they get deleted

When use trackers you not only download but in 90% cases you seed too. That’s problem my friend.

Though, I will say that my two MEGA accounts haven’t been effected whatsoever. Being that I’m a much smaller user, it makes sense. What helps is that a chunk of what I’ve posted is live concert material, which is much easier to keep up.

I should’ve kept my mouth shut, because most of the links are down on my end as well.

New thread or old-thread-with-a-bump-post?

I think you’ll lose them again regardless of which hosting site you use. I don’t believe that it will help nickname change because you share specific classic things. It’s very likely to be either powaquatsi or his pal thx-1138 (either their first account or now a dupe one).
I never had a beef with powa but as soon as I talked to thx-1138 about harassing Bart Oss one of my links (Home Alone 2 LLLCD) was reported and I had to take it down to be safe.
This NEVER happened to me before and it was one of a handful of public links (I share everything via PM).

It’s very easy to track them down, assuming you have the time to do so.
Just go into the logs, find either one of their IP addresses (or multiple, if they’re smart enough) and check the logs every so often to see if they return.
Even if they -say, I don’t know- go into a public library or report you from work or something, the IP range will always be the same.
Then you’ll still know who it is and you’ll be able to block them. Hell, you can block the entire range if it gets out of hand!

If only for the sake of forum tidiness I would suggest editing the OP on your original threads. You can always bump the last page yourself once you edited the OP, so it will appear on the first page again. Then people will start noticing, look for latest post on your username, find their way back to other reuploaded threads, etc etc. Or you can put a link of sorts in your signature to point them in the right direction that you’re reuploading? On the other hand, if you use new threads then you can put a search link URL in your signature that points people to a list of your latest started threads, and then they’ll see all of your reups 🙂 if you start your new threads with the word [REUP] it will be EVEN EASIER 😀 🙂 It’s getting confusing now… do as you wish :p

Back to the actual topic, I also do think that you should just edit your original posts to reflect the change in method of sharing. You do have a very well established history. We wouldn’t want the bad guy to win by completely starting over. Thus, just leave the threads open to keep them going! That way, more people will recognize your value and importance in Shrine by looking at everything that has been established in the past that keeps on running!

It’s your final opinion that counts the most though.

Well guys, I think that I have FOUND the answer!! And there is no need to keep this private. In fact, I WANT every person on this forum to know all about this, because then whoever caused this will know that they can have 1000 accounts here at FF Shrine, and they’ll STILL be caught.

MEGA has a little-known feature (I’m not sure if this feature is available in free accounts, unfortunately) where you can instantly copy a file in your cloud folder merely with a right-click and it doesn’t increase the size of your storage. This is because MEGA simply gives you another listing of the same file, rather than duplicating its content like Windows would do on your local hard drive.

In my new MEGA account, I’ve already uploaded the files for the Runnicles/Atlanta Carmina Burana (which I’ll be posting in just a little while, using PM sharing), and they total around 5.6 gigs. I copied every single one of those files just as an experiment to see what would happen to my storage size, and it stayed exactly the same. You would think that it would increase to 11.2 gigs (5.6 x 2), but nope, no change.

Why is this important, you ask? Because this means that I can pick one file out of every download package as a tool, and every time somebody requests a PM with links, I’ll create a new copy of one of the files with one quick right-click, generate a new link for that new copy, and then share it with the other person as a part of the package.

This mean that there will be at least one file link in every PM I send out to everybody that is unique and that nobody else will ever receive, and it will have no effect on my storage size, plus it will only take as much time as one or two mouse-clicks to do it.

And then, if I have anymore links disabled, all I have to do is go back through my sent PMs, find who received the unique link(s) that got disabled, and there’s the culprit.

And I will report that person to the moderator and will post threads screaming it to the heavens above letting every person here in this forum know who that person is so the moderator can find all their other usernames with any duplicate IP addresses they have and ban them for life.

It will take a little extra work on my part, but I think once I do this a few times and get the hang of it, it’ll become like 2nd nature to me.

Oh, and one other thing: In case you’re concerned about listings for that one file really piling up in my cloud listing, MEGA also has a feature where I can set an expiration time limit on any links that I share – say, one week for example – and then every once in a while, I’ll go into my cloud folder, find all the files whose links have disappeared (which is quickly obvious from the way the MEGA set up their interface), and simply delete all those file listings. That will keep things from piling up too much, but like I said earlier, it will never have an effect on the amount of MEGA storage that I’m using.

Yes but with your CC they have your name, it’s largely more direct than tracing the IP until the ISP and asking the ISP to give the name of the account etc.

In my country, only the police / juge etc could ask the ISP about names behind IP.

In fact, each person’s FF Shrine username will be a part of a password they’ll need in order to open the files. If that doesn’t prove to everybody that BobtheKnob isn’t kidding when he says he’s tracking the way everybody uses my links on an individual basis, then I don’t know what will.

And I’m not going to have to track down anybody. The very instant even just one of my links gets disabled because it’s reported, I’ll immediately know exactly who was behind it.

There’s was no limit to pm because i’ve had to manually approve new registered members because the email system is still waiting to catch up. I’ve changed this now, new users still need 2 posts to pm.

When stuff start to ‘leak’ from site You can choose to ban nickname or IP address. If i ban IP address (which is better option) then fuckers come back again with IP Hider. Sometimes in order to get 1 certain link only, they tried 2-3 IP hiding software!!!!

There’s not much you can do in any case. If someone is banned they’ll just come back using a completely different username and -as zvonko says- with a tool to change/hide their IP address.
Safest bet is to hand everything out via PM and to adhere to the advice/rules that CdS posted. Good value.

Yes, MEGA said the complaints were from [email protected], which is Universal Music. It appears that somebody here at FF Shrine went on a rampage to gather up as many publicly posted links as they could gather, and then turned them all in for takedown. That’s why, in my new system, every link I share only goes to one person and nobody else will ever get that link (unless the person I give it to shares it). The links of mine that were taken down were ALL of the threads where I openly posted the link(s).

Random aside, 9 MEGA accounts later, I’ve utilized for a sharing group I’m a part of (sans FFS). On this account, I have only [openly used it for and] posted 3 links/threads on FFS. Only THOSE THREE in particular, have received a takedown. All the 100+ other links are still very-much viable.

It’s definitely a coordinated strike (if we can call it that).

Hmmm. FFShrine might have been "blacklisted" as a consequence of a user’s actions (the one which has been referred to as troll), eh, just throwing this out there. The old MEGAUPLOAD hasn’t always been a viable option around here, in the past, why? Stuff hosted there started to get deleted real fast. What happened, to put it in simple terms, is that the website checked from where the visitor of a certain download link came (well, think about how certain communities or websites go and identify: visitor from Google, Yahoo Search, Bing and you get the idea)… Clicked from forums.ffshrine.org? Whatever got hosted had a short life for a while, in some instances the deletions happened within 15 minutes.

Sooner or later it has to happen, anyway… The (complete) deletion of the stuff hosted on our accounts, I mean; it’s either because of someone with a bone to pick, or because of the folks managing DMCA-takedown requests.

While I don’t doubt that someone is partially responsible for this most recent tragedy (being sarcastic here, in case you can’t tell), you folks seem to forget that: 1) these forums are still well indexed on the likes of Google and 2) there are thousands of users linking to download threads on the likes of Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr… Someone might have taken notice of it.

Agents of copyright holders won’t pick an obvious name. They’ll look like any other leecher.
There are hundreds of users who don’t talk and just leech.
They look like anyone. They blend in seemlessly into the community.
But, maybe, they are even the ones who post "thanks" and give you reputation.
As a means to mark you.
They can check their own post history to always find you the fastest and keep track of your activities.

And about 60 from me were taken down today, wouldv’e been around 10.15am (UK Time).
It seems to me to be:
Aimed to deplete whole threads from start to finish (from your oldest started one up to your latest) systematically, and I guess this is done by getting any members name, and going to his ‘profile’ panel and then clicking his or her ‘Find latest started threads’ – and then they just go through from bottom to top.
That’s why you find that even your non-royalty stuff gets included in the sweep. (My take-downs included all Crime Jazz Lounge re-ups, with my own Crime Jazz Season Two posts(which I compiled and art-worked myself) and even a self made PDF, so no real over-riding copyright existed to those, so whoever complained had no mandate and couldn’t be acting as agent for someone who doesn’t exist.
I personally think it’s just someone who’s got a grudge against the whole forum and is just expressing him or herself in a ‘twat-like’ manner out of pure malice and spite.
Maybe a sharing of information by those affected could narrow it down to who’s actually doing it, cos it’s certainly a forum member.
As soon as I noticed it, I went straight to my Profile page and looked at who my last 10 visitors were.
One thing that did stick out for me, when I read about your takedown, I looked at your profile and your last 10 visitors.
I might be totally barking up the wrong tree here, but it’s suspicious to me that a newbie’s only activity since joining is not with interacting or looking at forum posts but seems to be more concerned with looking at other member’s profile pages.

I’m not saying it leads anywhere, but it does seem as though our only hope of finding out who it is, is by cross-checking with effected members as to things like take down times, profile page visits by whom and when, and the occasional look at the ‘who’s online panel’ – (wonder if .Admins’ ever database ‘who’s online’ info such as who, when and viewing). There’s got to be a footprint pattern somewhere that ties it in with who”s affected where the same person keeps cropping up.
Personaly I’rd love to find the bastard and string him up. (Even knowing that all the work I put into posting and then letting genuine forum downloaders down when something like this happens might well just be all down to an ego trip of mine.)

Other than that, I suppose the best advice, as stated previously by others, is too rise above this, and carry on regardless…….

I’ve had takedowns of things I ACTUALLY OWN THE COPYRIGHT OF, records from the 1940s that have been out of copyright for decades, CDs given away freely on the from the front cover of music magazines, obscure Japanese vinyl from defunct labels, Proms recordings from television – completely random selections, bugger all to do with UMG – about three quarters of the stuff in my Mega account. The most hilarious thing is I do have some links for albums that ARE the property of UMG and those are still up! It has all the hallmarks of some numbskull program looking out for keywords. Almost certainly not from Universal.

Mine were at 3am, by the way – also UK time.

Still, unfortunately for some of you, Jessie also started to share my opinion on Film / TV Download links; he’s an administrator, couple that with the fact he’s a volunteer, it could possibly lead to this outcome: he doesn’t feel like dealing with it? The role he holds entitles him to nuke that section and no one, aside Sarah, can "complain".
What usualyy happens within that section managed to annoy even him, something to think about, that part of the forum isn’t salvageable, but hey, we’re the Staff not wanting to moderate, sorry, but aside from a selected few and the majority of lurkers, there are shitheads over at Film / TV.
And if you suggest we should have more of an (or a) iron fist with bans, they don’t really solve much, nowadays.

As for me, I’ll keep moderating Video Game Music for as long as the administration wants me to. What you seemingly don’t understand is that they want to care about this place, but not by sacrificing their sanity over it. The way I see it, the decision will be based on whatever happens from now on with both Jessie and the new mod, try to not piss ’em off any further, because as much as you imply some "Staffers" don’t care about this community, I can’t say I know many folks which manage to get this annoyed and frustrated with something they don’t care about and I should know, since I stopped giving much of a damn about the Shrine and I haven’t made a secret of it.

So long as the new mod (I trust Jessie to make the right decision this time) actually cares and doesn’t go on a homophobic, racist, hate-filled rant only to return with absolutely zero repercussions, I think we’ll be fine 🙂

Which gets back to culture at large and the guidelines for behaviour(s) it fosters and promotes. What does time have to do with it? This nutcase opened up a second account, had conversations with himself, refused to acknowledge when the game was up (i.e., constantly denying evidence) to the point where Jessie had to make a fucking rule about having more than one account (which should be common sense for heaven’s sake!) I have been the latest victim of numerous links suspended by Mega due to complaint from [email protected], which is not Universal Music, as it would suggest, since many of the links that were suspended were not even Universal ones. Since I have not fully recovered from my illness from last year it will be impossible for me to re-up all 111 links that have been compromised but I will try to gradually restore them and perhaps use the PM system BobtheKnob was kind enough to suggest.. In the meantime if any one on the board needs a new link to one of my affected posts send me a PM requesting a link to a specific file and I will try to accommodate you. This is a terrible thing and I am afraid that the opinion others have expressed that these reports to mega are not from the music industry or studios but from a very sick individual who means to do all of us harm.

Just a thought, but is it possible that ‘Universal Music’ or other bastions of ‘high-moral upmanship’ actually recruit commission based individuals that get paid purely on reaching ‘quotas’ for ‘take-down’s’, based on the number of links taken down. If that was the case ‘Universal Music’ wouldn’t bother to check each individual submission. All the recruit has to do is supply confirmation from Mega (who’ll comply with anything) that suspect links have been taken down, the recruit gets his quota, ‘Universal Music’ tells their share-holders "look we’ve managed to fight this – take-downs are up – and so on." ‘Universal Music’ are happy, the music industry gets the impression that they’re winning some profit battle (where everyone really knows that’s not the case), and everyone’s satisfied. It’s like with law enforcement, ‘If we can’t catch the real criminals lets fit someone up for it, it’s a result’ – and everyone knows it goes on but the results look good.
That might explain the indiscriminate way this has been carried out – where we might just be an easy target (only one of the few forums left on the net available to target).
It seems as though it’s a sudden splurge, every now and then, but not enough to actually take down the whole forum (why kill the golden goose) – all to make up the figures.
Just a thought. I might be totally talking out my arse – don’t know, but is what I said possible.

Guys, i’m still member on 4 private forums + building my own and nobody has problem with MEGA take-down except members who have the same posts on private place and here on shrine. DMCA Agents can infiltrate also to private forums, a little harder than here but there’s a probability. It is obvious that this is only revenge directed towards shrine members of a one or group sick minds.

After reporting to the Forum in this thread that my links had been taken down and perhaps due to my "sick individual" comment (which admittedly was benign compared to some of the other accusations here), 40 more of my links were reported and taken down by Mega. Coincidence or paranoia? I think not. I still think this may be personality driven rather than industry driven but you make a good point about quotas and that still could be the case. To such an endeavor this forum presents a gold mine of sorts. Other than the fact that I have shared a lot of music that represents many hours of work for which I was not paid and my desire only to share it with others, I can’t fathom what I have done to make someone who has never met me to be moved to perform such a heinous action against me and the other members of this forum.

And (2), I’m using a paid MEGA account for all my uploads because it would be way too much trouble to keep track of them all with multiple accounts (over 680 files at a total of ca. 620 gigabytes). The trouble involved in keeping track of which files are in which accounts would not be worth the small cost I’m paying for the one big account, so having an online backup would require either a 2nd paid account or a very unwieldy collection of free accounts that frankly aren’t worth the trouble, especially given the PM system I’m using.

A couple of my uploads were just nuked at Mega. Interestingly, they were for a thread that I never, ever see in the first couple hundred pages on this site. I think the only way you can find my stuff is if you’re searching for it specifically, and then make a pm. This happened within hours of me getting a pm request that I didn’t see till just now. I don’t think this is someone going on a rampage by going through forum pages and selecting threads at random. I suspect that pms are somehow being hacked.
And again, sorry, yakopu, you’ll have to wait until my stuff finds a new home.

TeddyV’s comments were unclear, because if he’s sharing links via PM, then it makes no difference if his post was a "couple hundred pages" back or on the very first page, because there would be no link in his post, period, anyway. And if he "didn’t see" the PM request "till just now", then that means he didn’t share any links, so there would be no private message to be hacked.

I’m not accusing you of anything, TeddyV, please don’t get me wrong. I’m just saying your comments were unclear. I don’t know if English is your primary language or not, and if it isn’t, then I know that it can sometimes be a difficult language to work with and to make your points precisely and clearly.

Regardless, however, I’m using a system where everybody gets individualized, password-encrypted links via PM, and they also automatically expire after one week. So even if somebody did successfully hack FF Shrine’s PM system, at best, they could only zap one week’s worth of shared links for me, and what’s more, those links don’t even point back to my original files anyway, so I would lose absolutely nothing. With the system I’m using, nobody will ever see one single link for my original files, because they don’t even have links generated on them. They’re just sitting there on MEGA, static.

The only damage it could do to me would be to stop anybody who I had sent links to within the last seven days and who had not yet downloaded their files from being able to access them. The only thing I would have to do is simply to generate a new set of individualized links and re-send the PMs from the previous seven days.

This new system is a small amount of extra work for me, but it’s really not bad, especially now that I’ve done it enough that it’s getting to be an automatic routine.

Regardless, however, I’m using a system where everybody gets individualized, password-encrypted links via PM, and they also automatically expire after one week. So even if somebody did successfully hack FF Shrine’s PM system, at best, they could only zap one week’s worth of shared links for me, and what’s more, those links don’t even point back to my original files anyway, so I would lose absolutely nothing. With the system I’m using, nobody will ever see one single link for my original files, because they don’t even have links generated on them. They’re just sitting there on MEGA, static.

The only damage it could do to me would be to stop anybody who I had sent links to within the last seven days and who had not yet downloaded their files from being able to access them. The only thing I would have to do is simply to generate a new set of individualized links and re-send the PMs from the previous seven days.

This new system is a small amount of extra work for me, but it’s really not bad, especially now that I’ve done it enough that it’s getting to be an automatic routine.

I used a similar system in the past and all can say you’re mistaken. Specially if you still use previous affected MEGA account (password unchanged) be assured that there is no 100% safe system for the distribution of links.

One year back I lost 50 Gb from one MEGA account because intervention chief redactor from one label. In mentioned account 3 quarters were NEVER PUBLISHED TITLES. I lifted them on mega but not yet posted. So no one could report them. Simply because 18 titles from mentioned label I lost all, even never published things. After that I never use this account. When it again appeared this DMCA shit and you started this discussion I made a small experiment. Again I began to use compromised account by uploading only 2 files: one shared (not on shrine) + one not shared yet. Given that I use now 7-8 accounts after checking i realized files gone only from one. You need only one chance to guess from which. Of course again from long-infected. Well… It’s enough to someone pointing out only one your link and whole account can be scanned. You will have affected ACCOUNT not link.

Regardless of all this two thumbs up on your dedication and desire to make your links again available to all and as far as possible safe.

I got the pm request for a link to one of my way, way old uploads a couple hours before I got the takedown notice for that requested upload from Mega. That particular upload – Lionhearts I and II – hasn’t been active on these pages for a long time and I haven’t had any requests for it in a months. I hadn’t yet responded to the pm. I don’t see how or why that particular upload could have been flagged for a takedown, let alone how anyone could even have noticed it existed. This is just way, way too random. Somehow, the pm to me requesting the link must have been the trigger. It could be simply a coincidence, true, but the odds seem just astronomical.

Actually, I’ll follow through with Skelly’s mentioning of creating a thread containing the comment, and asking if they can discover who it was. Clearly, whoever gave that comment (I personally suspect it was powaquatsi) was one who was reporting the links, and if we can identify exactly what user it was, they can be banned.

No, only some guys in GD like my little pony, don’t tell what I didn’t tell.
