A Trip to the Moon (French: Le Voyage dans la Lune) is a 1902 French silent film directed by Georges Mlis. Inspired by a wide variety of sources, including Jules Verne's novels From the Earth to the Moon and Around the Moon, the film follows a group of astronomers who travel to the Moon in a cannon-propelled capsule, explore the Moon's surface, escape from an underground group of Selenites (lunar inhabitants), and return to Earth with a captive Selenite. It features an ensemble cast of French theatrical performers, led by Mlis himself in the main role of Professor Barbenfouillis, and is filmed in the overtly theatrical style for which Mlis became famous.

The film was an internationally popular success on its release, and was extensively pirated by other studios, especially in the United States. Its unusual length, lavish production values, innovative special effects, and emphasis on storytelling were markedly influential on other film-makers and ultimately on the development of narrative film as a whole. Scholars have commented upon the film's extensive use of pataphysical and anti-imperialist satire, as well as on its wide influence on later film-makers and its artistic significance within the French theatrical ferie tradition. Though the film disappeared into obscurity after Mlis's retirement from the film industry, it was rediscovered around 1930, when Mlis's importance to the history of cinema was beginning to be recognized by film devotees. An original hand-colored print was discovered in 1993 and restored in 2011.

A Trip to the Moon was named one of the 100 greatest films of the 20th century by The Village Voice, ranked 84th.The film remains the best-known of the hundreds of films made by Mlis, and the moment in which the capsule lands in the Moon's eye remains one of the most iconic and frequently referenced images in the history of cinema. It is widely regarded as the earliest example of the science fiction film genre and, more generally, as one of the most influential films in cinema history.

This restored colorized version is presented for the first time in opening of the 64th edition of the Cannes Film Festival on May 11, 2011. At the time of the film, the projections were always accompanied by a musician on stage playing the airs "fashionable". In 2011, it is an original soundtrack composed by the Air Group, which highlights this silent film retrieved ...

Funny story related to this cd/dvd release:

I sadly discovered that I misunderstood the Itunes Match service, and erroneously confused it with a cloud-based BackUp storage of my music library. I purchased this album from Itunes, but never backed it up. One day while wanting to rewatch the movie, i realized that it was no longer playable, just a greyed out track title.

So, Apple and/or Record Labels can apparently remove purchased content (songs, albums, movies, videos) from the cloud at anytime without notice. If a local copy of no-longer available content is not stored locally, you lose access to it.

That's a bummer. Losing any music is tragic. I feel your pain.

Just my opinion, but 256 AAC is pretty stout. The AAC format is about as good as it gets, even better than 320. But it's not LOSSLESS.

Were you enrolled in 'My Music' or did you specifically purchase your download/s?

'My Music' from iTunes is more like a music rental for $9.99 per month. Not that there's anything wrong with renting...

If you purchased your music outright, iTunes offers a recovery of that music if you should need to download it again (like if you've bought a new computer, lost or erased your download, etc).

If you're using iTunes on a Mac, go to the Homepage and see the Music Quick Links menu on the right side. You'll see "Purchased" midway through.

If you prefer using the Playlists screen: on the top left of the page you'll see the Library heading, then Purchased. That's where you want to go.

As a last resort, you can always give iTunes a call. Have your login info handy.

I hope this helps anybody who's 'lost' their music in the iTunes Triangle :)
